1. Where do you get your inspiration from every time you design a new collection? I am usually inspired by an emotion that could be evoked by a person , place , feeling or even an experience. I strive to innovate and for me it’s very important to keep my inspiration practical in its execution and not just good for runway or an exhibition. After all I am not making clothes for a mannequin and love to see them on real people .

2. Who are some of your favorite designers? Hands down its Tom Ford and amongst the local designers from the region I am truly impressed by Toby and Furne Amato.

3.

Which designer inspires you?

I am inspired by various designers for the body of work and their journey. Work wise each one has a special talent and it has to be celebrated. I am hugely inspired by Tom Ford.

4. Which celebrity have you enjoyed working with the most, and what did you design for them? I have been very lucky to design for various celebrities however my favourite one has to be Red One as he is extremely open to new designs and excited to try new looks. My other all time favourite celebrity is Ranveer Singh who is not just a brilliant actor but one of the biggest trend setters in the world of fashion.

5. Do you feel there is a global style and that we all seem to be following it? There is definitely a global style now a days. With the extensive exposure that each one has via social media and so many fashion portals, fashion travels across the globe and people every where seem to be following the latest trends and moving along quickly with times.

6. Do you believe in global trendsetters and their influence on the followers? For sure some strong influencers who have a major following around the globe. I personally hear a lot of people follow Mariano Di Vaio and his style. Famous influencers like him do have an impact globally.

7. Do the city vibes inspire you in designing? Definitely as each city has different culture, vibe, different habits and at these factors surely are inspiring. I love the colour each city paints in my heart and I follow that feeling.

8. What are some of the must-haves one should have in their wardrobe? Black suit, white shirt, a pair of blue jeans, black shoes and one pair of casual tan shoes.

9.

What is fashion for you?

Fashion is a language one uses to express without speaking . It’s universally understood and breaks barriers. Fashion combined with style is an extension of one’s personality. One look and the impression is created which can make things flow in a very positive manner if applied wisely.

10. Do you love specific fabrics using at your clothes? I love to work with wool and cotton . They both have brilliant properties and so easy to work with. Comfortable yet stylish. Easy to maintain and long lasting.

11. Why do you only design men’s fashion and not women’s that is more highly selling? Artists go with the flow. Never say never . If and when it comes to me naturally I may be inclined to design for women as well however at this stage I am following my passion for menswear and focusing mainly on that.

12. What can we expect to see from you in the future and when is your next collection coming out? You can always expect the unexpected from me and never have any expectations. I break barriers and like to change the game constantly. I get bored if I have to work on similar lines over and over. My next collection is expected to be out by mid February.

13. Describe a day of yours away from work. Sun Sand and Music. Give me these three and my day away from work is perfect. Watching the waves gives me a feeling that i can not describe in words. Ocean along with the sky makes me feel like a dot in this universe. I appreciate nature and it’s ways.

14.

Where is your brand available?

My brand is available in Dubai mainly and online I cater to the entire world.

Polka Dots Print!

fashion TRENDS

Getty Imag e s sto c k

Always Classic‌ Always New Polka Dots The first rule of polka dots is to choose your silhouette wisely. Before making any purchases, you have to consider how big should the dots be and what silhouette suits you the best. If you choose loose-fit silhouette, then you better buy clothes with random placed dots, while polished silhouettes require perfectly lined polka dots in small sizes. If you want to make dots look classy and elegant, then you better add a stylish blazer on. Of course, everything depends on what kind of blazer you want to wear. This outerwear garment can either tone the polka dots up or down. If you want to make dots stand out, then you better try on solid color blazer.

ANTONIO GRIMALDI IN T E R V I E W BY VA S S IL IOS N I CO LAO S VITS ILO G I A N N I S 1. What’s fashion?

your

background

in

I attended the Art Institute specializing in graphic design in Salerno, Southern Italy. After gaining experience in all the techniques of craftsmanship and tailoring I moved to Rome to complete my fashion training. In the Capital I began working in the creative office of an historical fashion house.

2. At what age did you start becoming fascinated with fashion? Always. Since I was a child I knew I wanted to work in fashion and become a designer. I discovered my passion for fashion at a young age through collaborations in the tailor shops of my city.

3. Where do you get your artistic inspiration from? From travelling, contemporary art, mythology and fairytales.

4. Have you ever felt to push the boundaries of creativity? Always as I am constantly looking for new shapes and volumes, materials and experimentations.

5.

What is your brand philosophy?

To create dreamy and timeless dresses with a contemporary twist.

6. What skills are important for a fashion designer for a successful career in the industry? Being a real creative talent. Never being satisfied. A creative talent calls himself into question and he or she is able to create a personal style to be recognized.

Moda Dynastie |

65

7. Please tell the top three things in your styling kit that are must haves. Dresses that are in harmony with the body. Respect for the woman and her femininity. Last but not least, a woman must prevail over the dress.

8.

How do you measure success?

Being loved by the people I love: that’s the biggest success, for me.

9. Do you follow some trends for your looks? Never. I don’t like trends. I am a “couturier” and I create timeless dresses.

10. What kind of style you would love to have in your outfits? My outfits are unique pieces and must be timeless and contemporary chic.

11.

What fabrics do you use?

Pure silk above all. So, I love to use light silk fabrics like chiffon, georgette, tulle, organza but also heavy silk fabrics like crepe, cady, duchesse satin, gazar. I like playing with them and mixing them.

12. Name some celebrities who have worn your clothes. Gwen Stefani, Eva Longoria, Holly Hunter, Amy Lee, Felicty Huffman, Elisa Sednaoui, Amanda Lear, Asia Argento to name a few.

13. Do you find men and women welldressed today? Not at all.

14. What sorts of things do you do to prepare yourself for an upcoming fashion shoot or show? I do meditation.

66

Moda Dynastie |

15. How do you stay updated on current trends? Reading fashion magazines and using the social networks.

16. What is your most memorable fashion moment? Good or Bad. It was probably in the 90s when the models became top models and so famous that they were celebrated like movie stars.

17. What do you like and dislike in wearing a high fashion collection? I like women that choose a dress and know what they are wearing. I do not like fashion victims who buy dresses in consideration of the brands and not considering what is cool and stylish for them.

18. Have you ever worn something that is totally out of fashion in your life? Probably I do it everyday

19. When is your next collection showcased? Next July, in Paris, during the Haute Couture fashion week

20. • What role do you think social media/influencers play in fashion today? Very important, influencers are like top models of the 90s.

MEGAN PORMER IN T E R V I E W BY VA S S IL IOS N I CO LAO S VITS ILO G I A N N I S 1. Your family originates from Iran and Turkey. I also have a Russian blood running through my veins because my dad is half Turkish and half Russian. Having parents from both middle eastern and the western culture allowed me to understand the differences when it comes to perspectives and understanding, sympathizing in different languages and ways like emotions it helps me relate with anyone in this world.

2. How is that affected your temperament? I’m very very out-going and I love people more than anything else in this world. I’m a good communicator. I communicate well because my parents comes from different cultures and backgrounds. I understood the importance of communication and talking about your emotions. So I’m all about talking about your emotions.

3. Were your parents supportive to any initiative you took? Yes there are and I can confidently say that they couldn’t be more proud of the person that I have become and the steps I took especially in my career.

4. At the age of seven you were chosen as the youngest representative for children’s rights at the United Nations. How a child of your age could understand children’s problems and rights? Any child would already understand such thing if she grows up with a father who is as dedicated to children’s welfare as I did. My father has 2 orphanage who actually made us appreciate every single thing we have in life is a good starting point to making us understand our rights in the society.

5. What was it or who that influenced you to study medical engineering? I’ve always had a heart on working at medical fields and that led me to medical engineering. I felt that there is always a room for preparing ourselves and improving our lifestyles by awareness in our body.

6. After your graduation and working with a genetic testing company, what were the results of your research? I was trying to understand the relationship between different genetic mutations and cancer. Basically, when I took the most non-technical yet most practical I’ve got from DNA testing is that it’s very important for each of us to understand that when it comes to our health and wellness that there is no “one-size fits all”. We need to understand our own unique genetic makeup and make and wellness and health plan that would match our unique genetic makeup and understanding our genes allow us to understand our body better. And when it comes to health prevention is the goal. When you understand your genes, you would make your understand how to minimize your body into getting any diseases.

10. As a great businesswomen, you have approached the Dubai market too. What are some of your collaborations and projects in Dubai? To showcase Dubai to Hollywood and the people in America to understand how cosmopolitan and versatile and beautiful Dubai is. Currently I am working on few Hollywood movies that are shot in Dubai which is a nice combination of Westerners in Middle East which is my passion, connecting the West to the East. Collaborating with local designers because I am discovering a lot of amazing local designers with very edgy outfits that are basically customize outfits with Middle Eastern flavor and western looking and I love that. Because my goal is to have a style which is a mixture of the East and the West. And I realize that there are a lot of designers that haven’t been discovered in the region and I my goal is to bring those designers in the spotlight by wearing them at my events and red carpet appearances. I am doing a lot of campaigns and hopefully I will be involved in Dubai Expo 2020.

11. What do you think about life in Dubai, and what are your favorite places? 7.

How important is prevention in healthcare?

As the usual saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure”. We always have to keep in mind that the longer we keep our health better the more time we allow ourselves to be happy being surrounded by the people we love the most.

8. Also, at the age of 14, you started modeling. What are some of the first campaigns you featured in? First big magazine was Vogue Italy and the biggest campaign is Diesel.

9. Tell me how acting comes into the picture in the past few years? I always believe in the power of all sorts of media platforms. For me all sorts of platform to spread the word about the power of healthcare prevention and women empowerment. Acting for me is an add-on to spreading this messaging.

UAE is a great place, peaceful, safe and lively. My favorite place would actually depend on my mood, sometimes I would prefer the beach over strolling at the malls to simple unwind. Or I can simply go strolling at the malls or have coffee with friends at a coffee shop. But ultimately, UAE in particular is my favorite place without any specifics.

12. I will create a dilemma to you about the place you have to call home, UK, USA or UAE? USA is part of my family. LA feels like home kind of understands me and my spirit, I simply love it.

13.

What do you think about fashion?

I think that fashion is the strongest, silent way of expressing your emotions and ideas. I think with fashion you can speak without words.

104

14.

Moda Dynastie |

Any favorite fashion designers?

Currently I’m all about edgy designers up and coming. Architectural designers who are creating outfits out of things that are not fabric. For example, I love outfits that are made up of paper or wood. Anything but fabric. And the princess inside me, my favorite is Michael Cinco

15. What would be your advice to women to be healthy and have healthy skin? Never sleep with makeup on your face and drink a lot of water.

16.

How do you unwind?

I like to spend my time relaxing either by travelling or simply spending my time with family and friends.

17.

What are your plans for the future?

Bring Middle Eastern designers in the spotlight and create a style of mixture of the east and the west. To be the first middle eastern female actress in mainstream Hollywood movies to play other international character and hopefully be the first Middle Eastern American leading lady in Hollywood movies.
