4 tips on etiquette every model should posses.

I have worked with a lot of different models both great and not so great. What makes the great ones great is not only their talent, but is so much more. Here are 4 tips on etiquette every model should posses.

1. Punctuality Matters

When a photographer or stylist gives you a time to meet for a shoot, show up at least 5 minutes early. When the model shows up late it sets everything back. It is so frustrating when a photoshoot or video shoot has been planned and everyone is ready to go and we are waiting on the model to get started. Everyone involved has other things on their schedule and doesn’t have all day to sit around and wait for a model who is late. Time is money. 2. Don’t Be a Drama Queen When you show up to a shoot be kind and respectful to everyone involved. It doesn’t matter how big or small someone’s job is on a shoot, every job is important. Your part as a model is important, but models can be replaced. Kind and pleasant models are more enjoyable to work with. P A G E

3. Commitment is Key

If you commit to a photoshoot, whether it is paid or trade, give it your all. Show up when asked and follow any instructions given beforehand or during the shoot. Yes we all know life is crazy and sometimes hits us when we don’t expect it. If you have to cancel give the photographer ample time to find a replacement. If you decide to not show up without telling anyone don’t expect to ever work with that photographer again no matter how talented you are.

4. Be Patient & Respectful After a photoshoot everyone gets excited to see and post the finished images. Be patient with the photographer. They will give you images when they are ready/ allowed and will let you know when you are allowed to post images. Make sure you respect the photographers work. DO NOT alter the images in any way. This includes adding brightness, contrast, any Instagram filter, etc. It is so rude to alter a photographers hard work and style without permission

Praise Chiruka I am a lady aged 22. I am signed under frosties modelling agency Besides the fact that modelling is my passion and l feel like l have a talent that l should show to the world, l also chose modelling because l found it a better way to showcase my beauty, intelligence and it was a quicker way to fufill my dream of working with the community and partaking in community projects without any obstacles. In the next 5 years, l see myself owning both national and international Peagentry tittles. I see myself being a successful commercial model, well known for giving a hand to the needy and owning an organization which fights corruption in the modelling industry, to make modelling a better and fair carrer If l were not a model, l would be a fashion designer, designing clothes for models. Already, l have a talent in cloth designing, but due to busy schedules, l cannot focus more on it, although l enjoy it the fewer times I do it. The short highlighted abobe is an example of my designs. To the upcoming models l would want to say the modelling industry needs someone with dedication, persistence, commitment and direction. It's a cruel industry where one reaps what he/she sows. It also needs patience, because it's not an easy path and one may take years of much effort before succeeding. Therefore, l encourage all upcoming models to hold on to what they want and work for it untill they achieve

The show’s director ,Mr Machena, said: “Covid 19 came with a strong impact to every pageant in the world and

everything was put on hold ,but life goes on, so we have to learn to live with this pandemic like we did on other viruses and follow the safety measures and precautions. Thats our new normal ,we don’t stop working because life is not stop moving .God is our protecter” There will be performances from the travellers Band will perform.. we are bringing the change Everyone is invited .but due to covid restrictions. We will have a limited seats. First preference goes to the parents/ guardians of the contestants

Let’s end sexual harassment and assault in the fashion industry for good

model, ‘Well, if you’re in an uncomfortable situation, then you can always just say no.’ But it’s easier to say that than be the young girl in that situation, dealing with a powerful stylist, editor, or photographer who can make or break her career

By CoCo Jones “This business needs cleansing out. It’s time to hit the reset button”

Someone had to stand up for others who are suffering in silent I had to start calling people out, and will continue to do so if I have to, because that was the only way to break the cycle. The fashion industry has become so flooded with girls and boys that they lost their power to people who hijacked the business. It has become a power play and a bully play. Thumbs up to those who will come up with their stories of harrassment and assault in this #MeAsWell movement Models let’s walk together in power

Working as a model requires being able to be spontaneous and creative to work with people in the moment and there is pressure to be compliant and easy to work with. So inappropriate requests can come out of nowhere, and they can also be a continuation of something that would otherwise be pretty normal. Both are tricky to navigate. And to my knowledge most models may not be given any guidelines about what is inappropriate behavior on a photoshoot You will hear them say, ‘This person’s really important so be sexy, dress well.’ Agencies stop sending your girls to these people..most of the girls are too young... protect them... agencies(they know, and they have been looking away)

Modeling agencies claim to act in an advisory capacity as management companies, instead of talent agencies, and models unlike actors who generally considered independent contractors, which leaves them vulnerable to sexual harassment in the workplace.... if there aren’t protections in place that clarify where legal liability for job-related sexual harassment lies, then women and men cannot know or fully exercise their rights, and real change will not occur..l believes modeling agencies should not be allowed to turn a blind eye to abuse, and should work with reputable experts to implement protective policies and procedures....but on a sad note in Zimbabwe most agencies a playing a pivotal role taking advantage of models and this has to stop...we are tired of hearing the same stories of the agency owners taking advantage and assault there models

It’s very hard for people to speak out because at the end of the day, it’s a big risk,A lot of girls had been suffering in silence...l want to be part of the movement that brings everyone together and help each other to speak up #beautybrainsmakesawoman #cocojones #zimmodelsstandstogether Zimmodels stand together stop looking down at each other

At most it seems the agencies will say to the P A G E

How do you ask a builder about the skincare? It is an obvious case that there are vast products out there which were specifically meant to beautify your skin. For instance, cosmetic supplements but it requires money for you to keep a glowing skin. Today, l am going to highlight traditional ways which can help you to obtain lucrative results without using much money. Your skin is one of the critical components on your body because it acts as a shield of protection on your internal bones and it also prevents pathogens to get through your body. Skincare does not apply only to women even men must take care of their skins as well. Remember this, the dry skin was once a smooth and soft skin. So, what happened along the way? Here is the tips for you which can helps you to moisturize your skin and keep it fresh. 1) Minimize fast food and sugarly products Fast foods, sugary drinks and snacks has too much negative effects on your personal health. PHOTOGRAPHY IN COVID TIMES Article by Tanya

I

n a time where everything has come to a stand still because of a pandemic that has hit the whole world, media as an industry has not been spared. Today we take a look at photography as part of the media industry through the eyes of one photographer who has not let the pandemic shut his career down. Meet Kudakwashe Chinjekure Full Name : Kudakwashe Chinjekure Thomas Nickname: Kay Cee D.O.B: 11/06/1993 Occupation: Journalist/photographer/videography Current employment/projects: Freelance Journalist /Communications officer Born Kudakwashe Thomas Chinjekure, the 27 year old Photographer affectionately kmown as “Kay Cee” has been in the industry for more than 10 years as he says he started doing photography at a young age in church before he actually went on to do it profession-

ally, thus he has seen it in different lights, different shadows as well as different ages as it has evolved. When asked whether Photography was inborn or something that he had to study. “Kay Cee” said, “Both, it was an inborn thing and later l had to go to school for it. I went to Great Zimbabwe University, obtained a degree in Media and Cultural studies” Which goes to show that it is a passion that he has also invested in and turned into a source of income thus the COVID 19 pandemic has not only been a threat to a ‘job’ but also a lifetime passion and calling if we can call it that..

Having experienced life in the industry for an extended period of time Chinjekure says the pandemic has changed the whole way of life (culture) and the way Photography used to be done as a business. For instance, limited accessibility has been a hinderance to clients so generally business is slow.

Despite challenges faced as a photographer in COVID times which include but are not limited to accessibility by customers, places to do out door shoots due lock down restrictions and things not flowing as compared to other years, the pandemic has paved a way for Digital Marketing. The solution is to adopt it as the new normal and also bringing services to the people where they are. As someone who attributes his inspiration to “the zeal to make a difference” Kudakwashe ended by stating that the industry is dynamic and everything is changing, from the equipment being used to editing software. Which goes to show the pandemic and every challenge that comes with it is yet another change that can easily be adapted to and life moves on. This then is a call to other people in the photography and media industry as a whole to focus on the positives and use the negatives of the pandemic to develop themselves and their craft and generate a bigger picture.

PAINTING A POSITIVE IMAGE ABOUT HIS RACE THROUGH MODELLING

Painting a positive picture about one’s colour,it’s the one of the main goals that Zithelo Mguni a Bulawayo Polytechnic 2nd Year student, in Electrical Power Engineering. Is planning to do through his modelling career. We meet Zithelo Mguni a young commercial model, who reveals to us the reason why he is into the modelling industry . We also learn more about the talented and educated Mguni. TR:Several modelling agency are mushrooming from across the country, why CFM became your home why? ZM:I have always dreamed of being a top model in this country and beyond because I want to use the modelling space I am offered as an authentic voice that represents the narrative of Black people outside the toxic, stereotypical and deceitful story that has been repeatedly potrayed.

I came to the decision that my dream of fulfilling this motive could well be achieved with CFM because you have given me the spotlight we all need to advocate for change in this nation and beyond. TR.Since you joined the CFM ,what have you learnt about the modelling industry in and outside the country? ZM:Honestly I would like to believe that modelling like any other ART industry in Zimbabwe is getting back to it’s feet. Looking at other ART forms, we specialise in advertising at most and in Bulawayo to be specific, most models get acting roles, presenting spaces and so forth. I believe it is a confidence building form of ART that in turn has helped various models turn to other forms of media and entertainment while keeping up with their modelling. Well outside the country I wouldn’t say much but definitely, there is stiff competiP A G E

tion from designers and cologne making companies to name a few and as such these big companies use influential people to push numbers, especially soccer players, e.g Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo even though these guys have brands themselves as the face of their brands, and taking motivation from being a former soccer player, definitely I would follow in those footsteps. TR:You are part of the commercial models in the country,do you believe our commercial modelling is reaching the international stage ? ZM:We are gaining ground as we have seen in the past Years Zimbabwean Models representing us in these prestigious events like Miss World,Miss Inter Continental just to mention a few. I can safely say we are in the right direction and hopefully in the years to come we will be a strong hold

33 M O D E L G U I D E MAG A Z I N E I S S U E 3 1

TR:Who in the commercial modelling do you look up to ? ZM:As a way to up my game in all spheres I look up to everyone who is working so hard to create a name for themselves and the Bulawayo Community. I love drawing my inspiration from evey prominet figures i come across,i need motivation from people from all walks of life such that I become a complete model. Examples of some models include David Gandy, David Beckham ,Zviko Motsi,Sacha M’baye and our very own Shadel Noble. TR:Back to your home CFM ,how are they handling models who are in the commercial sector? ZM.Because CFM is about raising stars,i feel like i fit in here because authentically i can be myself,i can speak expressly without fear of being judged or what not.CFM values are also aligned to my own beliefs hence a conducive workplace. CFM has become a home away from home. We receive world class treatment with so much professionalism. I have met people from different tribal lines with different attri-

butes, that on its own has taught me to appreciate people for who they are not what i want them to be. Most of all the Mentors are doing all the necessary grooming to equip me in this modelling Journey. I am so eager to learn unlearn and relearn, and ready to cease every opportunity that comes my way.CFM strong. TR:Edgar’s has been one commercial brand that most people want to work with local .Which top 5 brands are you hoping to work with ZM:Im hoping to work with Truworths,Jet,Mzansi Boutique,JanJam and 4 May International TR:Who is your Inspiration ? ZM:The first person to ever inspire me to become more than what i was, was my father, he has supported me and pushed me that extra mile and always gives the best advice. However David Gandy has been a constant Role model as he has thrived in the modelling industry over the years and changed the lives of many. I have sought inspiration from

other sources, started reading a lot of self help books in various disciplines to better understand how things and people work, books on leadership, such as Execution by Larry Bossidy and Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. The Psychology of Money - Morgan Housel and Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. I’d say that i try to be inspired by anything that adds value to who i am. TR: Besides being a model what else do you do ? ZM:I am a student currently studying Electrical Power Engineering and employed at FMC Finance .Good interpersonal and social skills help me to succeed where those qualified for the Job do not. TR:Given a chance to occupy the runway which designer would u like to work with ? ZM:I would love to work with 4 May International Rubaya Tapiwa
