TO MODEL AT THE NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

Giselle is super excited to model at New York Fashion Week at the age of 13 years , it has been her dream since she started modelling a few years ago. She cannot wait to experience the iconic runways, designers and the fashion vibe in the Big Apple. She is so grateful for this opportunity to model for designer Mitch Desunia. Besides modeling Giselle is a musician an actor and a dancer.

When we asked how she balances all these talents… music, school, modelling and dancing. She said “I really work hard to keep up with everything, but I have learnt that time keeping is

so important and also having a schedule and sticking to the schedule, but it can be exhausting at times, but I enjoy all of it, so the hard work is worth it. I was so happy when I received my school results last year, because I missed a lot of school with the traveling and I managed to still remain an academic student. All I can say is, if you really want something, you will be able to achieve it if you are focused. My Mom always says, be ‘fast, effective and efficient”. She also makes me say affirmations to keep me motivated.”

Giselle will be releasing her original songs this year and the first song “Lovers Do” is com-

ing out in February, Produced and Directed by Manny Mijares from Upscale Recordings and Productions in Los Angeles. She is excited to release her songs and cannot wait to start performing and go on tours in America. “I am too grateful to have Manny Mijares as my Manager, he is the best and I enjoy working with him.” She added

MODELS SPEAKS ON BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY

Aboudoir model is a seductive model and in a boudoir photo expect to be sexually arose. It is is a niche (small part) of portrait modeling and photography. Boudoir modeling consists of fashion, fine art, glamour, portraiture and erotic modeling/photography. So many things are said about this type of photography like its sexwork, done by immoral people so we caught up with two boudoir models and they had this to say

A model based in Bulawayo, Banokuthaba Ndlovu took a moment from her precious time to give us an insight on the boudoir photography. She said “It’s not sex work. It’s a different form of body art. But those who are of that opinion clearly had something or someone influencing them. Models in my line of work should do what they do in a distinguished manner. Your content should be tasteful and magazine or commercial worthy. It should never be mistaken for only fans. My content expresses professionalism”

Besides modeling Banokuthaba is a college student and make up artist. To other models she said “Be brave, bold, professional and tasteful. Have a clear goal as to why you doing this and where you want it to take you”

Banokuthaba Ndlovu always loved to swim. She fell in love with her dark skin and wanted other ladies to feel good in their own skin. She had interest in boudoir modeling itself after seeing other models in a skincare brand campaign

Model Guide Issue 53. 9

Nicole Rumbie Matongo aged 23 who stays in Greendale Harare juggles life in modeling, music and beauty had this to say “I haven’t really tried complete boudoir but semi boudoir and lingerie shoots... I get bad comments sometimes but that won’t stop me from reaching where I wanna reach as a model... I simply ignore the bad ones for in this industry nomatter how good you try to be there will always be negative comment. My message to other models is don’t be ashamed to be who you are, achieve your dreams and let’s change the fashion world”

TAKE A LEAP OF FAITH AND FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.

During the video call, she was wearing a colourful purple morning gown and right next to her, there was a bulk of one - litre bottle of water and she was constantly taking some sips of water during the interview. As we know that it is healthy to drink tons of water on a daily basis. Her voice is so soft as boiled egg and she has got an air of queit dignity, as she unpacked what it means to be Miss LIM (leader ignite and manifest). Ronewa is an amicable person because the conversation was smoothly flowing as if she is talking to a friend she is known for a long time.

Indeed, it was a wonderful night to get intourch with a young dynamic and influential lady in the modelling industry. She is a game changer,

full of energy and goal - orientated person. Ladies and gentlemen allow me to introduce you a wonderful and beautiful girl, Mafunzwa Ronewa.

Basically LIM, it is a South Africa pageant which mainly focus on grooming and professionally training leaders who can effectively function in their modelling careers and businesses. Furthermore, it empowers young girls to stand their ground so that they can freely live their lives without being dependent on a male figure. “ Society has had a huge impact on our mentality as young girls and woman that has led us to feel inferior to men, race and privilege,” she says.

“My first taste of modelling came at a earlier stage when l was doing grade 3. I was so young and l did not have a personal coach or mentor who can professionally train me. I only had a unquenchable passion. l remember very well that l could boldly walk infront of the classroom without any fear and do my cat walk. It was so hard for other students to understand my intentions because they thought that l was doing it for fun. As times goes on, they could visibly see tangible results that l obtained through my modelling career. They are so happy that l did not give up on my dreams.”, she was narrating her story.

WHAT IS HOLDING UNIVERSITY STUDENTS FROM STARTING THEIR OWN BUSINESSES?

Entrepreneurship has no age. It is all about passion, willingness and desire to have your own business. It is high time for university students to take this matter very seriously because streets are filled with unemployed graduates from local and international universities. While, some of the graduates are just working general jobs for them to survive. It is a call to all university students to start any business whilst they are still studying at school. It will make their life so easier when finished school. Remember that there is life after graduation. Here are some of the advantages for young folks to run their own business :

1) Free resources

We are living in an information age whereby you can easily find anything you want on internet. At the campus, there is free Wi-Fi that you can use to scale up your business by advertising on social media or to do research on how other businesses are performing in the market place.

There is also a school library which contains vast books of different fields which can eqquip young entrepreneurs with sound knowledge that will make the business to excel higher and higher due wise decisions influenced by prowess of intelligence.

Any university you can think of, there is plenty unoccupied space which is not in use. Who do you think it is for? Absolutely, it is for the students and they have an advantage to use it as a capital to start their own business. There is no need to worry about money for rent every month.

2) Less money is used to reach out to customers

Word of mouth, fliers and posters are the best tools to advertise the business to other students or to local communities. All forms of advertisement mentioned above does not cost a lot of money to do that. On top of that, more students will be willing to help you to advertise your business on a free charge.

3) It doubles your learning experience

Successful business people knows their business like the back of their hands. They truly understand what their competitors are doing, understand what their customers want and how to survive in their line of their business. Business experience is so real and most of the lessons you cannot find them in a formal classroom. As a matter of fact, when you establish your own business - you will be enrolling yourself into another school whilst you are still studying at the same time. It is a double edged sword of experience.

ALL ABOUT MISS GOLDEN HEART SOUTH AFRICA

The Miss Golden Heart South Africa is a platform created by Isipho Madondile for young girls aged 7-19 to influence and bring about positive change in their personal lives, young aspiring women, and communities all over South Africa since 2021.

This platform originates in the Eastern Cape in East London and every year we crown new Queens from across South Africa and recently we crowned Entle Ndzakana (10),

Alungile Sobetwa (14) and Linamandla Matiso (17) along the newly crowned Face of the brand, Zuza Dyantjies (13) and they all accepted their crowns in front of a roaring crowd of over 150 people, consisting of family members, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers.

crowd entertained with their amazing humor and cameras flashing trying to keep up with their enchanting outfits. The judging panel consisted of public figures such as Mr. Sonwabile Gingqishe who is an international multiaward-winning model, actor, and head of PR at Sonwabile PR Agency and Our Future Talent Management, and Hlonela Mrwetyana who is a TV host at Honey Africa TV and current Preteen Universe 2022, with Prudent Ludidi as a guest speaker as well as social butterfly known as Bubblesworld.

Befitting of such an occasion, it was of significance that

they invite an inspirational act like Hlonela Mrwetyana to grace the stage and deliver a performance of her latest offering “Shiki Shiki”

All the 3 queens walked away with cash prizes, a boat cruise trip, photoshoot, Hotel sleepover, restaurant outings, a fully paid trip to Durban for two nights, and swimming costumes sponsored by Bathing Babe.

The Directors of Miss Golden Heart South Africa, Miss Isipho Madondile and the Managing Director, Siyamamkela Wanga kept the emphasis on how symbolic the title is to beauty queens

and how it gives recognition to those who have made a difference in people’s lives through charitable works around their local communities as charity work.

The event was brought to a close, with a heartfelt speech by Siyamamkela Wanga “The event was a huge success, and I am very overwhelmed by the improvement of the event in comparison to last year’s.

The event went beyond our expectations and we hope to attract more sponsorships and partnerships as we plan on growing bigger and having a full pact in the entire country from 2023..”

GET TO KNOW MISS NIGERIA UNITED CONTINENT

Tamunomiete Barimalaa

Age: 25 Niger

How did you feel winning the miss Nigeria united continent world?

I was really overwhelmed. It felt good to know my efforts were considered higher than my competitors. It made me more confident in myself.

Now that you have won whats next

So far I’ve been able to carry out out a couple of pet projects and by God’s grace there’ll be more to come. I’m not so sure if I’d like to continue on this path after my reign but I’ll want to still be involved in a way. I recently got involved in fashion and it would be nice to have prospective Queens as well as reigning Queens amongst my clientele.

What’s your message to other contestants you competed with

My message is that they should strive to be better versions of themselves as this will be an edge not just in a competition but in life in general.

Who do you give thanks to?

I give thanks ultimately to God. He surrounded me with very amazing and supportive family and friends.

Where do you see yourself in the next few years?

In few years to come I hope to have been grounded and making waves in the fashion industry.

TAMUNOMIETE BARIMALAA
I work hard to achieve my goals both in the modeling field and my academics.

UP FOR THE CROWN: THEMBELIHLE JELE

My name is Thembelihle Jele, born and raised in Mpumalanga. I am 16 years of age and currently doing matric. I would describe myself as an ambitious and courageous young person. I stand firm for what I believe in and never back down. I am always open to learning new things and having new experiences. As a model, I work hard to achieve my goals both in the modeling field and my academics. I really enjoy spending time with children and having conversations with them.

What inspired me to join this pageant was seeing how far it took the previous titleholders. I believe that having a Miss Teen Universe SA 2023 crown opens so many doors for you and with that I will be able to open doors for other people. I believe that I possess qualities of a MTUSA queen and with that I will be able to use my reign as the opportunity to reach more people and change more lives.

The challenges I faced in this pageant were

24 • Model Guide Issue 53

getting the amount of support I need especially in terms of voting. I think part of the reason why is because I come from an area of great disadvantage so I had start looking for support from all angles of my province. Even though it might have took me twice as hard as the next person , I still overcame that challenge and am now getting support all round.

I grew up in a small community where opportunities to do great and achieve good things in life are not as much. I have seen the struggles that young people face and in as much as we can’t do much for the old, i think we can do alot more for the young. One thing I would like to do if

I win this title is to introduce modelling in schools. I think that this field needs to be broader and by that I mean involving each and every person who would like to be part of it .

For a long time modelling has been underestimated and it’s time our leaders realise how important it is in the upbringing of young children as it teaches ambition , dignity and hard work which are the qualities that have been lacking in our older youth.Modelling being made available in all the schools in our country can help those girls and boys who dream of being in this industry but limit themselves because they of their pockets.

Everyone deserves an opportunity to showcase they’re talent and passion and I think making these platforms available for learners at schools will indeed give them that.

What I have learnt from this pageant is the importance of being able to adapt to different environments and people. Miss Teen Universe SA has pushed me to go beyond my limits and step out of my comfort zone and do great. As a finalist I have done a lot public speaking, even as far as hosting Miss Teen Mpumalanga 2022 and for that I am grateful because without this finalist sash I wouldn’t be able to push myself that far.

MTUSA is all about girl empowerment in all aspect. It is very big on charity and giving back to the community as we are also required to do so as finalists. With that, they push the contestants into being better people by being more involved in their communities. This is a pageant that offers young girls to compete and go represent South Africa on stage. With 5 international titles, Miss Teen Universe SA is the biggest teen pageant in this country .The sisterhood there is amazing and our Directer , Ntombi Gumede is always will to assist if you’re stuck on something concerning the pageant. The finale is taking place on the 12th March 2023 at Sun International in Durban and I really can’t wait.

UP FOR THE CROWN: FARAI

My name is Farai Ndlovu, I am 19 years of Age, I attended most of my primary days at Basa Knowledge is Virtue and attended High school at Queens High School. I matriculated in 2021 and went to further my studies at the University of Pretoria where I am currently a 2nd year student studying towards becoming a Clinical psychologist, From Grade 10-12. I was a media monitor at my school. In Primary school i used to Ahletics, Soccer girls and chess and in High school i did athlet-

ics, tennis and chess. Last year, in my first year i was a chosen as Class Representative and Won Chef certificate at my Residence in Second place.

My love and Passion towards wanting to become a Clinical psychologist is because naturally i am a person who loves helping people especially mentally because that is something I can relate to as well and this is why I am also a mental health advocate because people’s mental health is so important to me. Not everyone is able to get that kind of help

or educated about it. I believe tackling mental health issues can have solve others social issues we experience in the world, it all starts within the mind.

My hobbies are Dance and Modeling. I started modeling in primary school pageants and that is when my love for modeling developed. What inspired me to start modeling is that it is not just about the glitz and glam but it also focuses on helping the community at large and when I saw it has something I love doing which is giving back to the community I was inspired because not only do I love the giving part but I also love being on stage and being a role model to my peers.

The challenges I have faced as a semi-finalist included finances but because of the passion driven in me for modeling I learnt they are so many ways to fundraise and raise money for donations, selling and hosting an event that is how I tackled that challenge

If I win in the Miss teen Universe pageant I want to carry on pushing my advocacies which are mental health and Women

Empowerment. Teenage Suicide is another leading pandemic and I want to create a platform where people can express their emotions and create mental health awareness and with Women empowerment I want to show young women like me that it doesn’t matter the background you come

from, if you dream and believe it with all your heart it will be a success. I feel women capabilities are underestimated in society and I feel it is time we are given a chance to show and step into our power

From the Miss teen Universe Pageant I have learnt to be authentically myself, I also learnt that you don’t have to have money in order to be able to give you could just give something you no more wear or just your time it could mean a lot to someone. I learnt some good communication skills when I approached strangers asking for votes or looking for sponsors and good entrepreneurship skills in fundraising money for my journey.

Miss teen Universe South Africa is a girl child empowerment pageant which aims empowerment young girls to be the vest version of themselves, to inspire and be a role model to the youth.

Started modeling at the age of sixteen which is last year

Modeling has always been my dream way back from kindergarten. Besides modeling I still go to school. I haven’t been on pageants yet but ready to face that challenge.

In the near future I see myself living my childhood modeling dream and do in everything I can to make it work. In this industry I haven’t encountered any abuse yet. I think if anyone encounters that they should have the courage to stand up for them selves, and justice will be brought to them, those who do that should be put to shame

I believe confidence is the best outfit, so if anyone has both confidence and courage then it will come to an end eventually

To other models I would say stand up strong and bold to fight for justice it’s not easy out there

I got into modelling when I was 17

What pushed you into modeling?

It’s something that i have always loved

Besides modeling what else do you do? Currently studying media and fashion designing

Where do you see yourself in the next few years?

I want to be able to help other girls by teaching them leadership and when they see that they are there, they will see their faces reflected mine, to show them that they have the power to change perception, to empower, to inspire and empower each other by embracing their complications and see the flaws and the true beauty inside of them.

What’s your message to other models?

It may be hard but one step at a time will get there and if you want permanent change stop focusing on the size of your problems but start focusing on the size of you because only you can make a difference.
