Editor’s Message Happy February Monsters, Hearts racing, faces heating up, love is in the air! February is the month of love, but this isn’t exclusive to just relationships. It’s important to appreciate friends, family...and the community as well! Make sure to spend this month of love giving Key Club some love too. How? By attending service events, fundraisers, club meetings, and division events. You can create new bonds of love as well through Key Club. Make new friends, don’t be afraid to speak to others at different schools. Also consider expressing some love to Key Club by making fanart. Don’t forget to give love to your education as well. Study hard, we only have until May before the school year ends, so push through. You guys can do it. S-U-P-E-R– Superstar is what you are! On a final note, make sure to come out to elections and vote, every single vote counts and it’s important that you guys have a decision in deciding who makes decisions for next years club. Make sure to vote not on popularity but on qualifications. Thanks for taking the time to read. Love, Eileen Eto

Monster of the Month: Ronald Zhou We are over halfway done with the school year! Whether attempting to study for the major exam or practicing doing math problems, remember that sleep is important! Sleep on your bed at night, not during class. Of course, remember to take time to serve the community! One member has certainly served the community well enough to earn him the February Member of the Month! I would like to congratulate Ronald Zhou! Despite being in his first year in Key Club as a freshman, he has accumulated over 50 service hours! In his free time, he loves to read books. His favorite part about being in Key Club is the officers and their commitment in making Key Club shine. Since September, he has been attending at least one service event each month. Whenever he wants to take a break from school work, he signs up for service events. Knowing that he is making his community better with all of his friends makes service mean that more to him. In fact, one of his favorite events was the Elk Grove Pumpkin Festival because it was his first event where he could work with his friends in order to help coordinators run the festival. Congratulations Ronald on being the January Member of the Month! The officers and I appreciate that you have been attending numerous service events these past months. We hope that you continue being in Key Club and that you become an influential leader in the near future. Andrew Yu

President’s Message Hello sunshines! There’s only about two months left to this term, and two months until the board retires! That means there’s two months left to deal with us! Just kidding. I hope. But real talk, if there’s anything you’d like to see improved in the next two months, please let us know. We are here to serve you and ensure that this club is one you want to be a part of, but we won’t know how to improve this club unless you let us know what needs fixing. In other news, elections for the 2016-2017 board are coming up! Candidates will be taking an exam to test their Key Club knowledge and preparedness for office. Those who pass will move on to elections, where they present a 5 minute speech and YOU, the members, will have 5 minutes to ask them questions. It is INCREDIBLY important that you attend and stay the entire hour (February 22 nd and 23rd) because these are the potential officers that will be serving you next year. You have the opportunity to pick the candidate with the same vision and goals as you, who wants to implement the changes you wish to see. Other than that, it’s been a long been a long 10 months serving as your president. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten to know some of you as well as I would have liked. Please, don’t be afraid to say hi if you see me on campus or message me on social media. I’m here for you, either with or without the Key Club title. Continue serving and continue being awesome. Stay golden.

Vice President’s Message Monstas in da houuse! This has been a memorable year for me and I can only hope that it’s the same for you all. Watching all the volunteers sign up so eagerly really assures us that our community is well served and greatly loved! I really encourage you underclassmen (and juniors and seniors) to not only contribute countless hours to your community but take the next step and experience Key Club on a deeper level whether it’s attending division events or maybe even running for an office position. Hey if that isn’t the thing for you, sticking with just serving the community isn’t bad either. Heck, that’s why we’re all here; that’s why I joined Key Club. There are so many events still going on. KEEP ON SERVING. Doesn’t that genuine smile slowly emerging across strangers’ face knowing they have had a better day because of your help just warm your heart? Thank you for those who have been a part of Key Club because although I may not know everyone and you may not know me (Hi, I’m just a random girl. Some call me a mongoose), there were domino effects of influences that has actually reached me and made my Key Club experience that more priceless. And I hope I have somehow done the same to you. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. This isn’t a goodbye because you’ll still be seeing me. Even if you guys don’t want me around. Hasta luego!

Secretary’s Message Hey Monsters! I hope you have all had a strong start to your new year. That being said, I highly encourage all of you to make service a KEY part in your plans for the upcoming year. Take some time to give back to the community after all that it has given you. Always remember to take pride in the hours that you EARN from serving the community. If there isn't work assigned to you at the moment, take the initiative to find a way to help. From the beginning of the Key Club term, I've watched so many members grow into dedicated student leaders, inspiring others and myself to do the same. As the next Key Club term is soon approaching, I aspire to see more and more members discovering their passion for service in Key Club. In service and friendship, Michelle Nguyen

Treasurer’s Message Hi Key Clubbers! A quick shout-out about our fundraising achievements in January: We raised $160 through the Ice Rink Fundraiser, $112 of which will be divided equally between Children’s Miracle Network and Kiwanis Family House. Thank you to everyone who came out to support! For those of you attending DCON, please keep your eyes peeled in mid-February for the announcement about when you can start paying. You will need to turn in a field trip form along with the payment at the concession stand. Note: For those who still haven’t paid their dues left, please pay your dues ASAP, especially if you have or are planning to get at least 15 hours of service. Dues go toward your OFFICIAL membership in Key Club International in our District Cali-Nev-Ha and also come back to you through field trip subsidies and prizes. If you’d like a more in-depth explanation, please ask me or go to www.keyclub.org. You can check if you’ve paid on the service record sheet at http://franklinkeyclub.tumblr.com Also, SENIORS, if you’re interested in applying for a scholarship from Key Club International, please complete this form here and send it in POSTMARKED by February 15th!! We also have stole applications available here due April 1st. On a different note, this Key Club term is rapidly closing and I would like to share a few words about my adventure: I am thankful for Key Club for all the friends I’ve woken up at 5am to carpool with, all the smiles and thank you’s I’ve received from the community we help, and all the skills I’ve acquired as a Key Club officer. Without Key Club, I would not have a home to look forward to, to cry in when there’s too much work, to shout “I feel good!!” at the top of my lungs and hear my sentiments echoed by all the amazing people around me. In roaring service and love, Pauline Tze

Project Ride Crab Feed

Photos taken by: Jeanie Le

“I helped serve dishes like salad, pasta, and crab to the guests and got whatever they requested. My favorite part of the event was meeting other members of Key Clubs from other schools and seeing all the cool horse stables. To me helping out at this event meant contributing to a cause that helped kids who were disabled. I felt like I was a big help at the crab feed and that I was doing good for the community! Project R.I.D.E.’s crab feed was a blast because it helped contribute to such a good cause for disabled kids!” -Elianne Parks Elianne Parks gets more food to serve to guests

“At the event I just helped to serve food to the people and serve a certain table with getting more food for them. My favorite part of the event was getting to meet other members in our Key Club and seeing others helping out too. Also helping out with the serving. This event has helped the disabled children with special needs to go horseback riding.” -Ashley Cho Ashley Cho helps prepare more salad for guests

Recycling Sorting Party Photos taken by: Jericho Mata

“I helped out at the Recycling Sorting Party by stomping on cans and bottles and sorting them into different bags. To me, it means that we can make the environment more clean and a better place, by recycling. Although it is a very dirty job, it’s worth it in the end when everything’s finished.” -Sunny Hsu Sunny Hsu helps stomp on uncapped water bottles

“At the Recycling Sorting Party, we made sure that all items collected at school were recyclable. Without partying hard, there would have been several mysterious liquids and trash that wouldn’t be eligible for recycling. I know by investing my time to these Recycling Sorting Parties I have guaranteed that our club has enough funds to bring eager members to DCON, a place where they can potentially finally fall in love with the purpose of Key Club and help our preferred charities ensure that our focus is in the future generations.” -Lesley Wong Lesley Wong helps stomp on uncapped water bottles

Tet Festival Photos taken by: Jericho Mata

“At the Tet Festival we set up tents and organized the booth numbers. Once the event was sest up, I was in charge of checking volunteers off for vouchers, so that they have food. My favorite part of the event was when the host was giving free money packets to peopl e. I t was an interesting part of their culture! The event was a great place to learn more about the Vietnamese culture. Interacting with the Vietnamese community as I volunteered was interesting! Thank you for the opportunity!” -Jasmin Bopari Jasmin Bopari helps take down canopies “When I was at the Tet Festival, I helped set up the event by setting up tents, working at the information booth, and assisting anyone who needed help. The event, to me, was like seeing another culture from another perspective. Like, what they do and what they eat for New Years , is a lot different from my culture.” -Sunny Hsu Sunny Hsu and Andrew Yu help clean up the event
