Editor’s Message Hey Monsters, As our summer unfortunately ends, I know I’m crying on the inside as well, make sure to catch up on your summer homework and any other incomplete goals you may have had! While the advantages of de stressing from school is an incredibly important thing that shouldn’t be discounted, it‘s important to remember your responsibilities and how much harder it’ll be to complete them during the stressful school year. Your summer responsibilities should include attending service events, meeting new people via Key Club fundraisers, and further absorbing Key Club trivia via this handy dandy newsletter. I also highly encourage you guys to continue expressing your love of Key Club through the Great Wall of Spirit! Hundreds of people view this newsletter and the artwork inside and it would be an incredible opportunity for you guys to express Key Club spirit. Without further distraction and nagging from your bulletin editor friend, I’ll leave you guys to explore the rest of the newsletter! In service and friendship, Eileen Eto

Spotlight Monster of the Month: Alvin Tze Summer vacation is almost over, unfortunately, but that does not stop our August Member of the Month, Alvin Tze! Outside of Key Club, you can occasionally find Alvin surfing the internet or playing first-person-shooters or role-playing games. He enjoys the welcoming atmosphere within Key Club, describing it as if was a second family, and he admires the other members’ willingness to do service. He volunteers often because he feels more involved in the community especially when making friends in spontaneous situations. He has occasionally been Project Captain before for service events. His favorite event was the Kiwanis Crab Feed because of the welcoming atmosphere from both Kiwanis and other Key Clubbers. Although he felt isolated from the beginning due to the small amount of people he knew and regularly talk to, he ended up being accustomed to the Kiwanis he was serving and lost all the nervous tension between the others and him. Because of the lost tension, he incredibly enjoyed the work. During the breaks, he and others would throw paper airplanes to see whose would fly the farthest. In the end, he thoroughly enjoyed the Kiwanis Crab feed. A very big congratulation on being August Member of the Month! Thanks for being a hardworking Key Clubber and for trying to bond with others. Andrew Yu

Need to Know: PC (Project Captain) Signing up for PC and Photographer is an important responsibility in Key Club. You guys are the reasons we have great quality photos and accurate hours. However, in order for us to maintain this system and in order for you guys to earn additional hours, it is important you know how to do your job correctly. Pages 8-9 are dedicated to the rules of being PC and Photographer, failure to adhere to these rules will result in little to no hour bonus for volunteering for these positions.

Additional Information: For more thorough instructions on how to be PC go to franklinkeyclub.freeforums.org “Other Notes” > “2015-2016 Project Report Form (PRF)” Make sure to send a digital version of the completed PRF to michellenguyen.d7s@gmail.com and to give the physical copy to secretary Michelle Nguyen or any other officer within seven days or at least by the end of the month Failure to give our secretary the PRF will result in loss of bonus hours for the PC and potentially no hours for the group that attended the event Make sure to get a signature from the coordinator, located at the bottom of the PRF, by the end of the event

Photographer Unacceptable photos: Blur, covered faces, dark lighting

Acceptable photos: Candid shots, good lighting, face shown, duties being shown

Additional Information: You need a minimum of five “acceptable” photos however you need to take more than five to actually get “acceptable” ones. Often photos on a tiny camera screen or phone may not show the blur or darkness so make sure to get a copious amount of candid shots. Photos need to be sent to eileeneto.d7s@gmail.com within seven days after the event, failure to do so will result in no additional hours. Tip: Take photos during breaks or when there are more volunteers than there are tasks to do Try to take photos of other people, not just friends. Be as inclusive as possible!

Weekend Meal Ministry Photos taken by: Mike Lam

“I cooked scrambled eggs by the dozen and helped clean up after breakfast. I loved the whole event equally because I could do something I loved while also helping others. Although this was only my second time coming to this event, being in that atmosphere made e happier. You could easily tell that it was a very inclusive community, that anyone was welcome, and I think that in a big world like this, it’s important to find a kindhearted place with open arms.” -Cynthia Tze

“My favorite part of the event was that it was the first time that people other than the event coordinators thanked me. Everybody there was incredibly grateful.” -Lawrence Lee
