The new plan offers a bedroom, an optimized bathroom, a lot of integrated storage, separated toilets and a large living space including the kitchen, a wide desk and bookshelves. The bookshelves made out of painted medium are implemented directly on the walls with hidden joints. All the custom furniture is made out of oak as well as the parquet. The shiny white of the countertop, contrasts with the wood and bring a great lightness in the living space.

Mimésis • parasite shelter location Rugles (France) size 230 x 220 x 200 cm cost 1 200€ student team Amandine Cersosimo, Martin Genet, Pierre Gourvennec, Margot Halard, Jim Rhoné status build This artistic installation works as a high up shelter warped around an old iron framework. The wood structure is inserted sensitively and looks like levitating lightly. The dissimulated posts hold the floor which brushes the horizontal angle of the frame. Built high without touching the weak old iron structure is the main technical trick of this parasite project. It holds actually on the brick wall of the second facade. Up there, the place is made to have rest, and relax in the summer, day and night, in a peaceful loneliness.

Floating Diversion • device prototype location Rugles (France) size 340 x 130 x 90 cm / module cost 400€ /module student team Martin Genet, Jim Rhoné, Xavier Seurre status prototype Alongside the Risle, the old industrial site named “Les Forges” has been transformed into cottage by its owner. An hydroelectric power station still stand at the heart of this old ironworks and was unused because of the accumulation of branches and miscellaneous floating trashes. Therefore, we have designed a floating barrage made up of six semi-independent modules. The articulated system plays the part of trash runner. In this way it allows an untroubled water flow in the power station mechanism, and it doesn’t need regular maintenance. Finally, the power station will provide electricity to the rural cottage. According to our sustainable approach, we experimented a full-scale prototype of the device. The timber structure is floating thanks to three 120L drums which have been salvaged through the firm “ECOFUT”. Then the module is anchored with nylon ropes and a big rock in the river.

“Build it Steel” competition • Gasholder refurbishment London Olympics 2012 1st PRIZE awarded and publicated location London (UK) floor area 10 000 sqm arena capacity 3500 spectators design team N. Aissaoui, A. Cersosimo, C. Bernard M. Genet, X. Seurre status project Olympic games represent a huge show challenging cities around the world. Architectural dares and experimentations are dealing with heavy urban questions. 2012, the Olympic park is located in London’s east suburb. Newham, an old industrial and popular district, becomes then the object of a great urban development plan. Considering the urban restructuration, the project needs to integrate a triple sided problematic : spatiality, function flexibility and urban identity. Reminding the industrial era, the gasholders left on the site offer a structure on which the project is grafting. The symbolic reconversion of the metallic framework brings the past history towards the future and establishes a strong visual identity. Nonetheless discretion and simplicity remain a central concern in the design, in order to achieve a sustainable intervention. The project aims to be an indoor arena during the games and be able to host cultural events after them, an open public space allowing and supporting the city development. student competition - 2012

“Dessine ton école” • student competition 1st PRIZE location ENSA Paris Malaquais (France) floor area 300 sqm cost 5 K€ design team M. Genet, P. Gourvennec, R. Stordeur status prototype Malaquais Architecture school’s common space belongs to all and concentrate all functions in a single spot. Miscellaneous uses of the space include : lobby, student gathering, meeting, exhibition, workshop, cafeteria, lounge... This messy hub often leads to prejudicial compromises. The project aims at making all these functions to coexist in this linear space while offering a maximum of flexibility. The “mezzanine” becomes the school’s stage, with the ability to switch from one act to an other in a snap. That’s why we have designed adjustable workstations which can be adapted for the various needs of the first floor. In the far end is planned a student’s life space with the desk of the Student’s Association, a little fitted kitchen with a sink and microwave ovens and a lounge area. Upstairs, the fitting gets rationalized and a real workshop rises.

The building process takes a big part in the way the design has been thought. The implementation of the project is low-cost and the space can be used at the same time it’s being transformed.

Despite the binding program and the urban rules dictating the constructible volume, the natural light comes in the rooms by wide openings and large square windows. In the basement, some zenithal light is brought thanks to the topography of the garden. The wooden filter homogenizes the facade and varies light ambiances in the different rooms. Thus the project manage the program complexity in a clear intervention into the public space.

longitudinal section
Refurbishment of a brick building in an old rural industrial site, Technical questions and economical consideration. Detailed design of the new life of an old building.
Mixed-use plan for inhabited shops for workers, craftsmen or artists, alone or teamed. The internal circulation is based on a longitudinal strip. Real backbone of the project, it apportions and generates interior spaces. Old ironworks located along the Risle stream, this blind building is facing a water meadow to the South, and the rest of the property to the North. The project is the transformation of the forge from limit to interface. This kind of process involves a great opening of the front facade, which needs to be considered for light and thermal performances. Extending the shared house’s terrace, four decks overlap, and form a sequenced crossing over the river. This is concluding the reversal
toward the meadow.

“ The bigger the risks are, the less perceptible they get. ( Ulrich Beck, Risk Society. )
Urban analysis, Sustainability questions, and proposition for a patrimonial conservation of
industrial wasteland.
Urban scale project in the industrial context of a site along the Seine, in Paris suburbs. We have designed a concert hall as a boombox for contemporary music integrated in an industrial enclave, and planned a research centre. The building is linked to the town with footbridges network. In this highly hostile environment K-Boom is a provocative proposal, led by the acceptance of risk. The project deals with metropolitan night questions and the diurnal functions of urban facilities.
