n October 1st, E.C.C(English Conversation Club) studen ts had a pleasant experience with friends of Michelle, our native English teacher. In an atmosphere of freedom, students had an agreeable conversation with them in English, s over spaghetti. It has been the club’ unique tradition that students have time to communicate with foreigners. Contrary to last year, when students went to Itaewon and talked to passersby in English, this year they made appointments with native speakers and had a chat sitting around tables in a restaurant. Thanks to this cozy atmosphere and kind conversation partners, some students, who had shown a passive attitude toward this experience at first, got used to English conversation gradually and participated in it more actively. This opportunity gave unforgettable memories not only to students but also to the native speakers. One of the
High School walked to and fro between each group. n the afternoon a play was performed by the members of the acting club in Gunsan Hall. The story of the play began with the appearance of a novelist and three psychiatric patients who were both funny and realistic. The plot of the story was about a hospital that had a doctor who didn’t do his rounds, and a nurse who yelled at the patients all the time and didn’t feed them properly. However, everyone was astonished with the twist at the end. It was revealed that the story was only the imagination of the novelist who himself was the real psycho. The actor, Yu Hye Min, who played the role of the doctor, received the biggest applause due to her unique appearance and seasoned acting, and said “In fact, the play wasn’t prepared properly because it was the first time so we didn’t know what to do. However, I felt great and at a loss at the same time after receiving a big applause. Actually, it was quite rewarding but I wish I would’ve prepared better.”

The gym auditorium was filled with a lot of students and got hot because of them. This festival at night had more various views than ever; dancing teas such as ‘DMF’ from Daekwang High school and ‘Nes.st’, singing team named ‘coffee with prime’, and hiphop group named ‘show time’. Students who participated in the festival at night said that Hwiwonjae topped it all and that they would surely participate in it next time, too.

lasses 1 and 2 of the Second grade, which are science focused, went to a science camp on the 8th and 9th of October. We went to Yeongwol, Gangwon-do and saw the lay of the land of the Korean Peninsula. And we looked around Cheongnyeongpo where King Dan-jong of the Joseon Dynasty was sent into exile. So we were able to see the main building where Dan-jong stayed. And then we went to the tourist attraction Ondal. Just in time too as there was a festival taking place. Not only did we go to the Ondal cave but we also experienced many performances and a variety of activities. After that we went to the Nomok Nature Observatory which roused our accommodations. On
the 8th, we attended a lecture about the universe and watched many stars like Deneb, Vega, and Jupiter. On the 9th, we attended a lecture about the relationship between humans and nature, went around to study nature, and then learned about rocks. But this is not all. In our lodging, we played many games with friends and teachers until late at night. During the two days and one night, we learned many pieces of knowledge, and experienced various things, and became more familiar with friends and teachers. So I think everyone who took a part in this camp felt like this would be a valuable recollection.

It was redesigned for use as The Bank of Korea Museum in 1999 and opened in 2001. Originally, the building of the museum was built in 1909, using a Renaissance-style design. Due to its historical value and antique feature it was designated as National Historic site No.980 in 1981. The museum offers many interesting multimedia approaches to learning economy and the history of money. It provides not only information about money but also details of the economy. The exhibition made visitor easily understand more about general economy and give useful
information about the feature of money. Also, the museum displays about 9000 pieces of domestic and foreign money, so visitors can have a opportunity to compare diverse characteristics about it. The class enjoyed the day in the museum and could learn useful information about currency. (About The currency museum)

e have to study to prepare for the midterm and final exams. However intending to study, it is hard to know where to start. So from now on let’ s find out how to prepare for an exam.
That’s teacher’s lecture. Our teachers make questions so light up in the eyes while taking a class. And in that moment you should understand and arrange the contents. Then review the contents. You should carve this in mind at any cost.
What is the most basic thing in preparing for an exam? SUN 1 week

Exam!!!!!
This is an outline plan. So you can fill this in specific subject. When you want to know making specific plan, look for the last issue.
And also make a plan for efficiency study. Then how to make a good study plan? First, decide the term from when you start studying. (I think 3 weeks is suitable for exam.) Second, choose the weakest subject and divide the text book into 4 or 5 and study this everyday in first week. Third, devide every subject into proper range and study and arrange this and solve the workbook in 2 week. Forth, you have to finish all these things. So confirm the text books and prints and arrangements, work out the last exam, make anticipated questions, memorize everything and so on. But

it is not necessary to obey all these things. And it is good to make your study style base on that‘decide the term-divide the range-finish everything’course. And this is the tip for exam. - When the exam is coming soon, some students study until late at night than ordinary times. This is not good. So try to make a regular pattern. Then you can sleep enough and concentrate the most while awake. - Don’ t finish one subject in one day. Instead do a small quantity in everyday. This is clarified by study. - Get feedback from the mid-term exam. Receive feedback in each subject and determine the direction of the final exam. - Think positively as‘I can do it’and have selfconfidence as‘I’ m the best’ . When you have this thinking, you will study better than when you have a stress. From now on, we are learning about how to prepare for the exam. So right away practice this!

As I know, it’s hard to keep an eye to it always, however, I’ d like to inform you about some basic knowledge about Dokdo. First of all, location of Dokdo. Dokdo is an island located in Gyeongsangbuk-do Ulleunggun Ulleung-eup, Dokdo-ri, and it has a abundant of marine resources. Dokdo is just 87.4km away from Ulleung-do and it’ s 157.5km away from the Japanese island called Oki. This is one of many reasons why we can say that Dokdo is ours. Secondly, Dokdo, which was made
by an eruption can be categorized by two big islands, east island and west island, and it’s made up of 89 small islands. Because of the name Dokdo, many people think it’ s an one island. But Dokdo is called Dokdo because the word“Dok”indicates rock. Another thing is that since Dokdo is our territory we send cops, not soldiers, and they are called Dokdo guards. There are also many companies campaigning to protect Dokdo. For instant, KIA is a well known company trying its best to inform people all over the world that Dokdo is ours. They are advertising Dokdo through their banners in the web and they save some amount of income earned by selling cars. Moreover they are planning to put Dokdo in their car advertisements. This phenomenon is called‘용오름’in Korea because its scene looks like a monsterserpent becoming a dragon, ascending to heaven. Since 1980, it’ s the sixth time this is occurred. This phenomenon happens because of the instability in the atmosphere. It begins in cumulonimbus. Cumulonimbus clouds have latent heat and if a sharp wind blows over the clouds, the air around the clouds are sucked into them. Then the whirl wind begins to form. As time passes, the whirl wind becomes faster and a waterspout occurs.

Lastly, on a national scale, many students formed a group called DokdoVank to protect our land. Vank is an abbreviation of Voluntary Agency Network of Korea and they are trying their best to notify people about the correct knowledge about Dokdo which can be confusing and hard to know. There are many other ways to show attention and affection towards Dokdo. n 2010, there was a sensational drama aired on KBS that made our Wednesdays and Thursdays extremely satisfying?‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’. Since it was a drama, most of the characters and the storyline were based on a fictional novel, but the setting itself, SungKyunKwan, where the characters studied and fell in love, was real. It was a place of education where students could take lectures, exams and so on, just like a university nowadays. It was founded in 1398, with the aim of cultivating outstanding individuals. Today, we still can find the trace of this school in MyeongRyunDang, one of the remaining buildings of SungKyunKwan, located in the entry of SungKyunKwan University. In the present, SungKyunKwan University, with its arts and social science campus located in Jongno-gu, Seoul and the natural science campus in Suwon, holds about 36000 students with about 4500 lecturers. Its preceeding 600 years of traditions and roots of the highest institution of learning, SungKyunKwan, is making great advancements day by day, as one of the best universities in Korea. Also, lately, it is striving to internationalize the campus for students’global senses and capabilities. There is a variety of departments you can major in based on your personal abilities. Department of Semiconductor System Engineering, for example, is what came into the spotlight in the last few years, since employment at Samsung is 100% guaranteed. SungKyunKwan University is the‘trend’now. With the second highest rate of employment and a variety of privileges such as scholarships for students, SungKyunKwan University is providing an optimal situation for students to learn and get fully ready for their futures. Why don’ t we set this university as one of our goals and study hard in order to precisely hit this target? The Symbol of SungKyunKwan University This is the symbol of SungKyunKwan University that you probably have seen at least once in your life. There are two colors mainly used; blue represents leadership, trust, responsibility and so on and green represents the history that has come anew.‘S’refers to the spirit, success or SungKyunKwan University itself.

here’ s a monkey, a panda and a banana. When you are asked to divided them into two group, how will you divide them? Most of Asians will answer that they will group a monkey and a banana together. But amazingly, westerners will reply differently. They will say that a panda and a monkey is one group and banana place in another group. Why are the answers different? We live in a world that is now more globalized than ever. More and more people from many different cultures and countries meet together and are related to each other. However, in many cases, we were interacting each other just superficially and materially and delude ourselves as we were know all about each other. But what is matter is when two people who are from different culture have a deep relationship, they can go through difficulty by understanding each other.
Also, there is many possibilities to misjudge one’s thought and could encounter many embarrassing situations. So we should be aware of the fundamental difference of view how to look at the world. Easterners usually concentrate relation between two objects. And this kind of thought apply in the way of easterners’thinking too. For example, Easterners emphasize‘Impression management’ in social life. However, Westerners focus more on an individual’s characteristics. Westerners value‘Self deceptive enhancement’. So it is no wonder that the two answers were different : A monkey, a banana and a panda experiment. This experiment is actually practiced by Ji, L. Zang & Nisbett, R. E in 2002. The experiement’ s results directly indicate that there’ s a basic thought found among each culture. The same theory is true in when there’s a note, a magazine and a pencil. The overwhelming majority

WHO JUDGES FASHION? Kim Hyun-jeong(2-3)
hese days on TV, various survival programs about fashion things are gaining huge popularity. On‘On style’’s program Project Runway, amateur designers design costumes following the theme which is given to designers in each episode. On Korea’ s Next Top Model, many models take photos and walk down the runway wearing costumes. On these programs, the evaluation team comprised of top models, professional, photographers or famous designers eliminate a challenger for each episode, depending on their judging standard. Many TV viewers are enjoying these kind of programs and rooting for their favorite challenger. But the problem is the very judgement exerted by the evaluation team. Designers are judged by their individuality, and models are judged by how they interpreted the costume they got. The evaluation team’ s judgements are full of vituperation. Sometimes, they talk to challengers to leave the field they are working in. Of course, the challenger who is not familiar with the nuts and bolts of fashion should be cut from the program. But it’s not right to slough over an artist’s own world of art because to their eyes, their fashion work is the best. On fifth episode of Project Runway, one amateur designer Kwon Bo Mi failed the screening. The mission of that episode was to make the red carpet costume based on the korean traditional clothes. Kwon Bo Mi made a mini dress whose skirt part was the figuration of tulip. The evaluation team slammed her design as being old fashion because she use the shape of tulip which is the early days?? material of design. However, some viewers may feel that actually the early days??design material can appeal to the traditional feeling of Korean clothes. In other words, the degree of excellence of the challenger’s art work is a totally subjective issue. Fashion has no correct answer. How you feel and how you express it is the essential way of fashion. How designers design the costumes and how fashion models interpret the costumes and perform their walking on runway is perfectly up to their own feeling. No one is competent enough to criticize it with vituperation. No one can judge fashion by one’ s own standard.

Like those experiments, the book contain many interesting question which can lead to understanding the opposite culture. When you understand difference between two cultures, you can fully understand what this phrase means : Westerners want to see the reality, and Easterners want to be the reality.

This drama which attracted a lot of attention of the public with starring Kim Seon-a and Lee Dong-wook provides many viewers with lessons of valuable lives as well as a poignant love story between two characters. During her battle with cancer, Lee met lots of people in various places. Someone taught a stunningly beautiful tango and other gave a slab across her face and inflicted great hardship upon her. When she was out of the woods, however, she realized that all the people who had crossed her path were part of her life and became to value everyone

Spending her precious time, Lee also became aware of what she had to do now, not waiting for the mythical day when she would be happy and successful. Before she was given 6 months, she toiled and moiled for money and never dreamed of decking out in fancy clothes. However a sentence of a time-limited life made her reflect on her life and she found herself have nothing in her hand. Finally she wrote a bucket list and decided to commit whatever she wanted to do. At the close of the drama, Lee wrote a new bucket list sitting by a river. A short, but impressing narration she made at the end of the drama made many audiences think of what a happy life is. Lots of modern people are overlooking many standing beside them and the happiness in the present to pursue the

consummate happiness in nubibus in the future. For this reason, Lee and this drama were trying to open their eyes to the natural but crucial truth that shouldn’ t be‘overlooked’ . Through Lee who had struggled to make ends meet but liberate herself from restriction to enjoy her life, this drama showed directions to our contemporaries. After all, we are all taking trips that must come to an end and nobody can sure when it is completed. So it’s time to live in your ‘present’ . Love other people passing you by and remember that they constitute your priceless life. In addition, never forget that this present moment you are in is invaluable since your today is the future which someone desired yesterday.
Bucket list - The things to be done Choi Song-Hee(2-5) before the death

o you know what the Bucket list is? It is a list that you have to do or you want to do before passing away. This term is originated from the action, kicking a bucket, when people hanged themselves in the Middle Ages. There is a movie about bucket list. Let me tell you about the movie whose title is‘Bucket list’ . Corporate billionaire, Edward Cole and working class mechanic, Carter Chambers have nothing in common except both of them have terminal illnesses. While sharing a hospital room together, they decide to leave it and do all the
things they have wanted to do before they die according to their bucket list: hunting at the Serengeti, tattooing, car racing, sky diving, laughing until provoking tears, kissing with the most beautiful girl, putting the cremated ashes in the can and lay them at the place of scenic beauty and so on. Deleting or adding the list, they share many things such as joy of life, meaning of living and even though friendship. Recently, people’s interest in bucket list is rapidly increased because of the drama‘Scent of a Woman’ . It tell us the fact that most of people who have terminal

oes the justice always prevail in the end? Sad to say, it doesn’ t. In most cartoons that we watched in our youth, the good always won a victory over the evil. In the real world, however, some immoral man makes unfair profits, some criminals are guilty but unpunished, and the world echoes with the wail of resentment of the falsely charged. Dogani, a film which deals with sexual abuse in a school for the hearing-impaired, shows a corrupt society. Let’s think about this question. What if sex offenders walk through the aisle in our school without batting an eyelash? This makes no sense. But it really happened. Teachers are obligated to lead students to the right way, but the teachers in Inhwa school sexually molested some students. Of course, the students’parents were outraged and accused them. But the teachers received an incredibly light punishment compared to their guilt. The courts and Kwangju Metropolitan City Office of Education said there was no legally problem. The points they maintained are the locus standi (right to accuse) and statute of limitations, but those
just seem like unreasonable excuses. This case emerged on the strength of the movie, Dogani, and this incident is now on the case. Inhwa school foundation makes a mad search for vested right and the related authorities avoid their responsibility. At this point of time could the students acquire their rights? A lawyer is not the person who covers the guilty but who redresses an injustice. If we all don’t head for good, the world would be a scene of war. The duty whose live present is to make the justice out of the hidden truth. The film‘Dogani’has put many people in shock, disclosing the case of sexual abuse on the disabled in a school. Unfortunately, the case in the film was only the tip of the iceberg; there have been countless sexual crimes concealed or forgotten. The problem stems from the weak punishment for the crimes of rape. In recent years, the crime of rape came under the cognizance of the law, but only as a crime when the victim was unable to resist. However, the vague standard of‘disability to resist’made
cancer want to practice the bucket list rather than medical treatment just managing to live. Bucket list is written when people face death. It may happen that we can’t feel sympathy easily about the list because we think that the the death is still far from us. However it is okay we are not at doorsill of death. Let’s write the list right now for the day and think about the meaning of life.
one out of five assailants, technically, to be found innocent. What’s more, the punishment for assailants never got toughened, leaving the rate on sexual crimes on disabled to increase year by year. Some people might call it handling with the wisdom of hindsight, but the punishments for sexual crimes are getting toughened. In the past, the victim themself was the only one who could accuse the assailant, making the victim, especially a female, tend to avoid accusing the assailant. Now, however, anybody can accuse the assailant, making the victims less likely to be reluctant to deal with accuse them. Sexual crime on the disabled is the hottest topic of these days. I hope there will be a day when people, no matter if they are disabled or not, can feel safe in any place of the country.

Is it Fair for JYJ? Jin Min-ah(1-12)
S
eptember 15, 2011 JYJ published a new album titled ‘In Heaven’ , in which Jaejoong, a member of JYJ, composed all songs and wrote their lyrics by himself. The whole meaning that the title of this album is that JYJ’s absolutely harmonious vocals leads listeners to feel like they are in heaven. The songs of this album go well with this autumn season. But these good songs were produced amid lots of difficulties and yet still they exist. Over than 350,000 copies of this album were purchased but its songs were excluded from music channel. As many people know JYJ was separated from the group named TVXQ. Since then Korean Broadcasting networks
have blacklisted JYJ’s appearance on their channels. The reason why they are doing this is, that JYJ is still connected with their previous company. But actually this isn’t true. JYJ ended up the relationship with their previous company, and this officially was ruled by the courts. Also, Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) decided, that named ‘pierrot’, JYJ’s follow up song is ineligible to be played on TV. The reason why they rejected ‘pierrot’ was because of the lyrics. KBS thought the abbreviation in the lyrics (p.s.m) pointed out the previous president of agency. Without asking JYJ the meaning of the lyrics, the meaning of p.s.m. was not
“president su man” but it was the “performance previous museum.” This happening does not finished in JYJ
and it will not be finished. But we should make efforts to end up these situation.
