Argyle West Counselors Receive Distinguished Honor
Two Argyle West Elementary counselors have earned prestigious state recognition.

Marjorie Edge and Heather Kennedy were recently honored by the Texas School Counselor Associations as West Elementary received the CREST award for 2021-2022. The award is given to an elite group of schools from across the state for excellence in counseling. CREST winners demonstrate a commitment to using the Texas Model to improve the lives and achievement of students in academic, career, and personal-social domains.
“Our counselors do an excellent job on a daily basis,” West Elementary Principal Renee Funderburg said. “This is one aspect of their desire to continuously improve their practice and the services they provide our students, parents, and community. The award is a culmination of their hard work to follow the expectations set forth by the state. The state recognizes about 100 schools for this award and we are very proud to be one of them.”
CREST winners were recognized at a dinner during the TSCA’s Professional School Counselor Conference in Round Rock in February. Edge and Kennedy received a banner to display this honor. The Argyle ISD School Board also honored the West counselors at the regular meeting in February.
Edge and Kennedy worked on this project for a year and it included data, surveys, stakeholder feedback, and program evaluations as part of the award application.
The counselors were thankful to the Argyle West Counselor Advisory Council and Superintendent Dr. Telena Wright who gave the counselors valuable feedback throughout the school year.
“As a new campus, the CREST process has been helpful to us as we build a new program to be intentional, reflective, and purposeful as it aligns with the Texas and National models,” Edge said. “We are honored to receive this state recognition of our counseling program for Argyle ISD.”
