Performance: February 21st, 2016 at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. Music and Lyrics by Edward Kleban, Book by Linda Kline and Lonny Price. "Kiss today goodbye, the sweetness and the sorrow"; "God, I’m a dancer! A dancer dances"; "Everything is beautiful at the ballet!" Those lyrics, of course, are from among the most successful, beloved and longest-running Broadway shows of the last forty years. The intelligent, troubled, funny and gifted man who wrote them is the central character of A Class Act. Both Michael Bennett and Marvin Hamlisch are among the other characters in the show, but you won’t hear any of those songs from A Chorus Line. The entire score of this quasi-autobiographical musical is made up of the lyricist’s other stuff - from unfinished and unproduced shows. You’ll regret that he passed so early (just 48 years old!), but you won’t forget the generous talent, wicked humor and heartfelt passion of Edward Kleban.
