Amsterdam based top violinist Liza Ferschtman, daughter of Russian parents, was previously one of Muziekgebouw’s Kindred Spirits, performing her own series of concerts. In this concert, performing with the fantastic Dutch ensemble Amsterdam Sinfonietta, she tackles Shostakovich’s furiously complex and emotionally and physically demanding Sonata for Violin for the first time. Next to compositions of Shostakovich, Bach and Arvo Pärt. Pre-talk theme: what makes Liza Ferschtman and Amsterdam Sinfonietta so special?
Horror classic silent movie Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920), with a brand new score by Florian Magnus Maier, a young German composer who has lived in the Netherlands since 1994. Maier combines influences from classical music, world music and metal. The Ferschtman Cello Quartet was established by cello legend Dmitri Ferschtman, who emigrated from the Soviet Union in 1978. Maier and Ferschtman made their mark in the Dutch music world. Pre-talk theme: who are these two remarkable musicians?

Music and drinks In Dutch Sounds we offer an English pre-concert talk with drinks in a comfortable and informal setting. And afterwards you can enjoy a post-concert chat with drinks, to get to know other English-speaking city dwellers.
The Dutch bassoonist Bram van Sambeek, awarded with the prestigious Nederlandse Muziekprijs, is so gifted that the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Centre in New York included him in its own select group of chamber musicians. This evening Bram and the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra will evoke echoes of Haydn and Mozart in a bassoon concert of Weber. They will also be playing Otmar Nussio’s virtuoso Variations on an arietta by Pergolesi. Pre-talk theme: the unique sound of Bram van Sambeek. Liza Ferschtman
