Sunny Isles Beach the City of Sun and Sea In 1920 a private investor purchased a 2.26-square-mile (5.9 km2) tract of land for development as a tourist resort. He named it Sunny Isles -- The Venice of America. When the Haulover bridge was completed in 1925, the area became accessible from Miami Beach, attracting developers who widened streams, dug canals and inlets and created islands and peninsulas for building waterfront properties on Biscayne Bay.

Sunny Isles Beach, the City of Sun and Sea, is located on a barrier island in the northeast corner of Miami-Dade County, bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intracoastal Waterway on the west. Golden Beach lies to the north, Bal Harbour and Haulover Park are immediately to the south. Sunny Isles Beach is midway between downtown Miami and Fort Lauderdale with easy
access to business centers, entertainment, sports and recreational facilities, and tourist attractions. Residents and visitors can fly into either Miami International or Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International airports, or cruise into the Port of Miami or Port Everglades and be in Sunny Isles Beach within 20 to 30 minutes. Almost one million vacationers visit Sunny Isles Beach annually
to enjoy the 2 ½ mile-long fine sand beach and outdoor amenities such as water sports, boating, fishing, and tennis as well as the abundant shopping, dining and entertainment options nearby. The landmark fishing pier is a local favorite while the beautiful Samson Oceanfront Park provides a children’s play area and space to relax; meet friends and enjoy the sunrise. The City is experiencing a major
redevelopment renaissance on the east side of Collins Avenue, the main thoroughfare. Zoning laws ensure that view corridors and beach access pathways will always offer residents a life with a view. To the west of Collins Avenue, the City is building parks, improving the infrastructure and laying the groundwork for future redevelopment. The emphasis of most of the redevelopment is on residential

the City of Sun and Sea condominium construction. The City is steadily replacing outdated motels with luxury residential oceanfront development. Much of the residential construction is not for year-round occupancy, however the statistics show a steady growth in young families who desire to be near the ocean. It is a growing resort area and developers such as Michael Dezer have invested heavily in construction of high-rise hotels and condominiums while licensing the Donald Trump name for some of the buildings for promotional purposes Sunny Isles Beach is an area of cultural diversity with stores lining Collins Avenue. The city is sometimes referred to as Little Moscow because of its many Russian and Russian-descended (Russian American) residents.
myamimagazine.com
History In 1920 a private investor purchased a 2.26-square-mile (5.9 km2) tract of land for development as a tourist resort. He named it Sunny Isles -- The Venice of America. When the Haulover bridge was completed in 1925, the area became accessible from Miami Beach, attracting developers who widened streams, dug canals and inlets and created islands and peninsulas for building waterfront properties on Biscayne Bay. In 1926, a group of investors spent nearly one million dollars to build an allwooden racetrack with stands for 12,000 spectators. After just one “international auto race,” the track was destroyed by a major hurricane, its wooden beams blown all over the county. This event, dubbed “Fulford’s Folly,” was a forerunner to the auto races at Sebring and Daytona. In 1936, Milwaukee malt magnate Kurtis Froedtert bought Sunny Isles. The Sunny Isles Pier was built and soon became a popular destination. Sunny Isles developed slowly until the 1950s when the first single-family homes were built in the Golden Shores area. During the 1950s and 1960s more than 30 motels sprang up along Collins Avenue including the Ocean Palm, the
first two-story motel in the U.S. Tourists came from all over to vacation in themed motels of exotic design along “Motel Row. One motel, The Fountainhead, was so named by its owner after the novel by Ayn Rand. In 1982 the half-mile-long pier was designated a historic site. In 1997, the citizens of this area voted to incorporate as a municipality. Sunny Isles Beach began major redevelopment during the real estate boom of the early 2000s with mostly luxury high-rise condominiums and some hotels under construction along the beach side of Collins Avenue (A1A) replacing most of the historic oneand two-story motels along Motel Row. Due to the afternoon shadows of the newly-erected condominiums that now loom over the beach, some longtime Sunny Isles beachgoers refer to the area as Shady Isles.

Though Sunny Isles may have once been promoted as The Venice of America, for the 21st century it has continued its penchant for allusions to more well known locations and has re-imagined itself with the promotional moniker Florida’s Riviera (presumably referencing either the French Riviera or the Italian Riviera but certainly not Riviera Beach, Maryland nor Riviera Beach, Florida [which would only confuse the matter]). The Jewish delicatessen Wolfie Cohen’s Rascal House at 172nd Street and Collins Avenue closed in 2008 after operating at that location since 1954. The interior of the building was renovated for another Epicure Gourmet Market, a longtime Miami Beach venue. Celebrities living in Sunny Isles Dontrelle Willis – The MLB player and former Marlin pitcher lives there. Sammy Sosa – The professional baseball player has a condo in Sunny Isles. Missy Elliot – This famous Hip-hop singer also chose Sunny Isles.

What to Do • Sunbathe at the clothing optional beach in the north area of Haulover Park Haulover Park contains one of south Florida’s most beautiful beaches. Nestled between the Intercoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, it has pristine white sand shores, open ocean surf, various shaded picnic facilities, beautifully landscaped sand dunes, and concession stands. The beach is ideal for surfing as well as swimming. The entire beach is guarded by well trained lifeguards, who will inform beach patrons of existing
weather and surf conditions. Across the street from the beach, Haulover Park has a fullservice marina, tennis courts, sundries shop and kite shops. • Enjoy Oleta River State Park: Florida’s largest urban park, Oleta River is located on Biscayne Bay in the busy Miami metropolitan area. Although it offers a variety of recreational opportunities, the park is best known for miles of off-road bicycling trails, ranging from novice trails to challenging trails for experienced bicyclists. Along the Oleta River, at the north end of the park, a large stand of beautiful mangrove
forest preserves native South Florida plants and wildlife. Canoeists and kayakers can paddle the river to explore this amazing natural area. Swimming from a 1,200-foot sandy beach and saltwater fishing are also popular activities. Picnic tables and grills are available. Nine pavilions can be rented for a fee. All have water, and the largest one has electricity. Visitors can rent kayaks, canoes, and bicycles. The park has a loaner system for bicycle helmets. For overnight visits, the park has rustic, air-conditioned cabins and a youth campground for organized group.
• Don’t forget to visit Greynolds Park: Once the site of a rock quarry, is now a 249-acre park consisting of a variety of habitats; most notably a relatively intact hardwood hammock and mangrove forest. The hammock at Greynolds is one of the last well-protected natural areas of northern Miami-Dade County. Tequesta Indians used the Oleta River, which runs along the east side of the park, as a source of transportation. In the years following, the Seminole Indians used the land along side the river as a trading post and a source of supplies for early
Miami-Dade County settlers. The park is named after A.O. Greynolds, the head of Ojus Rock Company, who deeded the land over to Miami-Dade County Parks Department in 1936. 1. Eco-adventure tours offered 2. Contains a bird rookery, mangrove boardwalk, observation mound, paved path around a lagoon, and historical boathouse 3. Canoes, kayaks and paddle boats available for rental on weekends and holidays 4. Nature trails and nature center open weekend and holidays 5. Bird and butterfly walks, historical nature walks, bat and owl walks. 6. Wide variety of outdoor fieldtrips available. Call 305948-2891 for reservations. 7. Two volleyball courts, sand, no lights. One south of Art Structure, one near Log Shelter. • For Golf enthusiasts, make
sure to visit Greynolds Golf Course: Greynolds Golf Course provides a 3,100-yard challenging layout. This par-36 course, designed by Mark Mahannah in 1964, is one of the county’s most popular nine-hole designs for all levels of play. The course offers electric carts, reasonable green fees, and club rentals. A spacious clubhouse welcomes players to relax before and after matches. A friendly Pro Shop staff will assist players with tee times, rental equipment and merchandise. Single rider carts for people with disabilities are available (24-hours advance notice required)

Scuba diving is one of the most amazing things you can experience. Breathing underwater with absolute comfort and moving in three dimensions can makes us feel like explorers of an unbelievable world. A world where incredible surprises await all around us. A world where animals live very differently from those we are used to see and where everything is quite orderly and balanced. A world that few people know. I have been enjoying the passion of being a diver for many years. Every time I have a chance, I take my friends diving for the first time so they can explore this other
world. Nothing compares to the pleasure of seeing my smiling friends who are fascinated to see for the first time the sea below the waves. Every dive is an adventure that gives us a very special feeling when we come across sea turtles, sharks, manta rays, barracudas, snake eels, dolphins, sea stars, crabs, and countless types of fish. It is a magical moment that makes us want to shout and

call the other divers so they can see what you see. Scuba diving is a non-competitive sport and a very complete one; it exercises almost all muscle groups in the body. You can improve your breathing since it expands the lung capacity, it favors the body’s psychomotor skills, and many other things that sport doctors constantly mention.

Here in Florida we have plenty of scuba diving centers to choose from. You should always look for places that have certified instructors from renowned international organizations like PADI. You can either take a course for beginners or you can take a “resort scuba course” which is a morning pool-class where they teach the basics of scuba and in the afternoon they take you diving while being supervised by a certified instructor.
Around South Beach you can choose from places like: Tarpoon Dive Center (www.tarpoondivecenter.com), South Beach Divers (www.southbeachdivers. com), and many more. They all have scheduled trips almost daily, you only need to call them and they’ll help you book the diving trip according to your level and experience. And if you are willing to drive, you can go to Key Largo which is only 1.30 hr from
South Beach, and there you’ll find places like Amoray Dive Resort (www.amoray. com) and Pirate Island Divers (www. pirateislanddivers.com) just to name a few. There is no need to be an athlete or a great swimmer; you just have to enjoy yourself while you discover what the sea has to show you. It is a little bit of magic and a lot of fun. The world of diving is a place where adults become children and the sea is our playground.
Miami Scuba Diving There are now dozens of dive boats operating in the Miami area ready to take you to some fantastic dive sites. In the early 1980’s a program was put together to protect Florida’s coral reefs by creating artificial reefs with the use of an airplane, army tanks, ships, tugs and numerous other manmade structures that are enviromentally friendly and create habitats for Florida’s marine life.

You don’t need to have been a part of the field for 30 years to become successful or a high-profile leader, either. Just look at some surprising first careers of influential figures, including presidents, entertainers and entrepreneurs.

Walt Disney, newspaper ad designer:
Walt Disney experienced a lot of failure on his way to becoming one of the most successful entertainment entrepreneurs in the world: He was rejected by the army and struggled to find work
after WWI. He finally got a job working as a designer for newspaper, movie theater and magazine ads at an art studio. Disney only worked as a temp, and after struggling to start his own business, he began studying animation at a new job for another ad company.
Dan Brown, singer-songwriter:
Dan Brown started a huge sensation and a lot of debate within the Catholic community and among pop culture fans when he published his novel The Da Vinci Code. But besides the controversy,
Brown’s work of fiction can at least be credited with getting a lot of adults interested in reading again. The creator of Langdon was a puzzle and anagram freak as a kid and studied writing at Amherst College. But as the son of an organist mother, Brown also
moved back home to teach middle school Spanish, and soon began writing thrillers.
Martha Stewart, stock broker:

justice and then lying about it all, and many long-time fans of Martha’s place settings and holiday decorating wondered how she got involved in such a mess in the first place. But before Martha Stewart was the goddess of domesticity, she was, in fact, a stockbroker. She graduated from Barnard with degrees in history and architectural history after first dropping out to model, and soon became a stockbroker. After moving to Connecticut with her husband and young son, Stewart left her job — she claims to have wanted to spend more time with her family, but others believe she was escaping a scandal.

Sheryl Crow music teacher:

Upbeat but soulful singer, songwriter and guitarist Sheryl Crow has enjoyed a longlasting career that incorporates all types of music genres and often rewards her with highprofile collaborations and honors. And while the Missouri native was always interested in music — she wrote her first song when she was only 13 — Crow chose to teach music to autistic children after graduating from college before moving to LA to join the industry.

Knocked Up was actually Jeong’s first film, and before getting into the movie business, Jeong was an internal medicine doctor. He graduated from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s medical school, completed his residency in New Orleans, but then won a stand-up comedy competition and moved to LA, where he began appearing in top shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Office.
Elisabeth Hasselback shoe designer:
while living in Washington, D.C. At that time, Garten worked in the White House Office of Management and Budget as a policy analyst, but after buying the foods store, quit her job and moved to Long Island.
Mike Rowe opera singer:
Mike Rowe is best known in the U.S. for hosting the Discovery Channel’s show Dirty Jobs, but if you listen carefully, he’s also the narrator behind lots of commercials, TV specials and documentaries. But that

Talk show host Elisabeth Hasselback has just been announced as a new Good Morning America contributor, but before her TV career, she worked as a shoe designer for Puma. Hasselback — then Elisabeth Filarski — graduated with an MFA from Boston College in 1999 and also appeared on Survivor: The Australian Outback during a break from Puma.
Ronald Reagan movie star:
Considered one of the most influential and widely revered presidents in U.S. history, Ronald Reagan won over the American public long before he got into politics. First working as a radio sports
announcer after college, Reagan joined the movie business in the late 30s after appearing as an announcer in a film. In all, he acted in over 50 films, the last of which was released in 1964.
Grover Cleveland sheriff and executioner:
Twenty-second President of the United States Grover Cleveland was the first Democrat elected after the Civil War, but his early days in politics were less demonstrative. After losing the race for New York’s Erie County DA, he was elected sheriff for the area, and even carried out hangings personally, to save himself the

Graham Chapman doctor:
Harry Truman haberdasher:
Before Monty Python success, Chapman wrote for the BBC and worked on radio and TV series, with John Cleese and other future collaborators. But even before the entertainment business, the British actor and writer studied at the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. He met Cleese at this time, and together, the two wrote sketches together. health and nutrition, Kellogg was the chief physician at the Western Health Reform Institute of Battle Creek, which promoted healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. He had nontraditional health beliefs, though: he was convinced most illnesses were caused by bowel irregularity and/or stomach disorders, or by sex (he often claimed that he and his wife of 40 years had never consummated their marriage). A health book author and lecturer, Kellogg and his brother started the Kellogg cereal company and invented wheat and corn flakes, virtually on accident, due to budget constraints and a batch of overcooked dough.

tablespoon green tea powder or unsweetened cocoa powder (optional-if using omit the lemon extract) Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (160 C). Use parchment to line the bottom of a 10-inch tube pan, preferably with a removable bottom or 2 (8 x 4-inch) loaf pans. Grease the parchment. In a large bowl, whisk 1 cup sugar, honey, vanilla, lemon extract, and salt into egg yolks. Place bowl in a large pan of hot water. With an electric mixer, beat about 5 minutes on mediumhigh speed until pale yellow and doubled in volume. Gently fold in sifted flour. 2. Wash beaters. In a large bowl, beat egg whites in electric mixer on a low speed 1 minute, increasing speed to medium-high. When foamy, sprinkle in 1 tablespoon sugar and cream of tartar. Beat until stiff but not dry. With a spatula, fold the egg whites in thirds. Pour batter into pan. Tap gently on the counter to remove air bubbles. 3. Bake on middle rack of oven 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. When done, cake sides will pull away from pan slightly; top will be flat and feel spongy when pressed with finger. Cool 20 minutes. Run a small knife between edge of cake and pan. Remove from pan carefully. Pull off parchment and cool completely. Serve or store airtight. Makes 12-24 servings depending on which size cake pan you use. our weekly choice.....sushi
history You think sushi is a relatively new craze, don't you? That simply isn't right, interestingly enough. Southeast Asians were eating salted fish and fermented rice called nare- zushi
myamimagazine.com
Since the 4th century B.C. It fermented for a few months and then they ate the fish (very well preserved using that method) and tossed the rice. Today we don't need to discard the rice and that's a good thing, it is very healthy and tastes delicious. Centuries later, in the 700s, sushi was present in Japan. It was called seisei-zushi during that period of time. The Japanese did not discard the rice and the fish was still partially raw when people in that time period and culture prepared their version of sushi. They were using it as a meal and not as a way to keep their fish from spoiling.
Numerous varieties of sushi with just as many different names were part of meal times in Asia for the ensuing years and centuries and then in the 1980s, the word finally reached America. Finally a food that "felt" like fast food that wasn't bad for us! And not only was it not bad for us, but actually good because rice and fish are healthy foods. Some types of sushi even use vegetables rolled up inside. We know how good fish is for us, so it seems to be a perfect health food with low calories, low fat, and the benefits of rice and fish. As more and more sushi bars pop up all over the country and the world, we will be seeing further combinations and additional recipes. Eventually people will start preparing their own sushi and it will be on dinner tables regularly and not just when we can make an occasional jaunt to a Japanese restaurant.
Forks, mostly being two-tined, used to be known as “split spoons.
make your own roll Making your own sushi rolls can be a lot of fun. It's great for parties. It's a fantastic way for couples to spend time together. If you love sushi, but hate sushi prices at restaurants, then making your own can AdChoices give you great quality for a fraction of the cost. Once you get the hang of it, making sushi does not take any longer than preparing any other meal.
Very Sharp Knives My first three times making sushi, my rolls collapsed in on themselves when I cut them. The rolls completely fell apart and I ended up just throwing everything in a bowl and eating a "sushi salad." By the fourth time, I realized it was because my knives were dull. A sushi roll ("maki" in Japanese) requires a quick clean cut to get it into six or eight pieces. Get your knives as sharp as you can possibly make them. Rolling Mat In order to make tight sushi rolls, you must have a mat to roll them in. The first time I tried to roll sushi, I did so without the rolling mat and was not able to get

them tight enough. The loose rolls easily fell apart. I recommend a bamboo sushi rolling mat ("maki-su" in Japanese). They are inexpensive and you can buy them at a supermarket in the Oriental Foods aisle. You don't have to buy an entire sushi kit to get the rolling mat. Sushi Rice Japanese sushi rice is white and short-grained. It sticks together very easily after it is cooked. Sticky rice is essential in keeping sushi together, whether it is a roll or rice ball ("nigiri" in Japanese). I mistakenly thought that sushi rice was just a gimmick and used Indian long-grained rice the first time I made sushi. The result was disastrous and nothing I made kept together. Each nigiri disintegrated in my hand when I picked it up.
The can opener was invented 48 years after cans were introduced.

Before you get started, there are some items that you absolutely must have. Your first sushi making experience shouldn't be difficult or frustrating. Make sure you have these essential items to ensure a positive experience and encourage you to keep making sushi. It took me five or six times before I felt comfortable that I was making decent sushi
rolls, but that is because I didn't start with the proper equipment.

Moving Forward >> by Ana María Monte Flores Doing nothing is never an answer. Warren Buffet once said, “We live in an uncertain world. What is certain is that the United States will go forward over time.” The same holds true for Miami-Dade County. Even in the midst of an economic downturn, our community is moving forward. Our goal has been to hold critical services together at a time when people need them most, and make strategic investments critical to our future success. There are signs we are on the road to recovery. Private sector employment is picking up, as are retail sales. Tourism, our number one industry, is strong and trade at our airport and seaport is increasing. To stay competitive and continue improving the lives of all our residents, we are investing in tomorrow, creating jobs today, and positioning Miami-Dade to emerge from the economic downturn better and stronger. Some of our investments are still years away from being realized, but others are taking root. Miami International Airport is a changed place. A once outdated airport now boasts two new terminals, new
retail shops and a sky train. Our seaport is undergoing its own metamorphosis with a new tunnel and restored rail service, and plans to allow some of the world’s largest cargo ships to enter our port. The importance of the seaport and the airport to jobs and our local economy cannot be overstated. The much talked about Marlins Ballpark has employed more than 2,700 people since construction began. Another 370 local workers are helping to build the first major Metrorail extension in more than two decades which will connect Downtown Miami with our airport. Stopping down these projects or even slowing them solves nothing. We must continually look for ways to further spur the economy, create jobs and modernize our economy. Our investments bring visitors to our community, and they are vital to the people who call South Florida home. Along with public safety, social services, culture and recreation, improving infrastructure is one of the most important roles of local government. And I’m proud to tell you, your community is moving forward.

As a nominee at the 2005 Academy Awards, his “Al Otro Lado del Río” (from the film The Motorcycle Diaries) was performed by Antonio Banderas and Carlos Santana because the telecast producers felt Drexler was not famous enough to perform his own song. Drexler took the microphone after actually winning the award, and reclaimed his song by using his thank you speech to sing it the way he meant it to sound. It was the first time in the Oscar’s history that the Academy granted this award for a song written in a different language than English. Drexler was catapulted to the position of national hero in Uruguay. His recent releases, including 12 Segundos de Oscuridad and Cara B, continue to develop his signature sound. Various Artists, “Burlesque: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack”
The soundtrack to “Burlesque” Christina Aguilera’s first star vehicle, could be a continuation of her 2006 album “Back to Basics.” And why not? It showcased her distinctive flair for the big band style. The soundtrack comes on the heels of Aguilera’s 2010 set “Bionic,” the singer’s noble attempt at the current radio sound, which has fared less well sales-wise. On “Burlesque,” Aguilera tackles jazzy Ella Fitzgerald and vampy Mae West covers, doused heavily with pop schmaltz. Her second

And Marilyn Manson gets a songwriting credit on “The Beautiful People,” a new dance number including his original’s unmistakable drums and guitar riff. All together, it’s a campy celebration of diva-dom and an over-the-top, triple-threat performance.

Given Kelly’s absurdly effortless melodic flair, the result certainly satisfies. But “Love Letter” could use more of his effortless absurdity.
It’s easy to see why the pop star didn’t want to wait: with its throbbing bass line and pulsating kick drum, this Max Martin/Dr. Luke mind-meld is in a hurry to get where it’s going. The track’s balance

by Mikael Wood “This album is dedicated to the girls who stood beside me,” R. Kelly sings in the a cappella introduction to his latest studio album, “and even all the bootleggers that couldn’t afford to buy me.” A characteristic bon mot from the Pied Piper of R&Band yet much of “Love Letter” seems designed to confound our expectations about a new Kelly album. In stark contrast with last year’s wonderfully lewd “Untitled,” “Love Letter” is a relatively chaste retro-soul set that Kelly says was influenced
Billboard’s Top 10 Radio Songs Chart
between club-ready verses and a soaring pop chorus (which melodically recalls the verse from Dido’s “Thank You” sampled in Eminem’s “Stan”) is more reminiscent of the Black Eyed Peas’ recent hits than anything in Brit’s formidable singles catalog. While lyrics like, “If I want your body now/Would you hold it against me?” don’t earn points for originality, “Hold It Against Me” is a winner and a tantalizing teaser of Spears’ forthcoming, still-untitled album, due in March.

Orthodontic are not only treatments for pre-teens >> by Dr Valeria Soltanik
(dmd p.a. dn16609)
and teens Years ago, orthodontic treatments were used only for pre-teens and teens having problems with their bite (malocclusion). Today, orthodontic treatments like dental braces are not only for pre-teens and teens, but for adults as well. Close to 30 percent of all orthodontic patients in the United States are adults. Despite this growing trend towards adult orthodontics, it pays to start orthodontic treatment early for maximum effectiveness. The American Dental Association recommends that children receive an orthodontic evaluation by age seven.
myamimagazine.com
The Restorative and Esthetic Nature of Orthodontics Since malocclusion may interfere with eating and speaking, it is usually considered a restorative issue. Although, because a malocclusion may prevent the development of a beautiful, well-aligned smile or facial jaw lines, it may also be classified as an esthetic issue and
categorized as cosmetic dentistry. No matter what your age, orthodontics can protect your bite (occlusion), maximize your teeth’s effectiveness in performing their functions and create a well-aligned smile. Today’s orthodontics involves repositioning of the teeth and underlying roots, providing better support for the crown of the tooth. Orthodontic treatment is now associated with the benefits of greater esthetic appeal, increased comfort and reduced treatment time. Orthodontic treatment can also rejuvenate your facial appearance by reshaping the jaw, neck and lips, especially when combined with maxillofacial surgical procedures. In addition,
well-aligned teeth make oral hygiene easier to maintain. The Orthodontic Evaluation . During your first orthodontic visit we may use several methods to develop an individualized treatment plan, including: •
Oral, facial and functional evaluation (examination).
•
Intraoral and facial photographs.
•
Panoramic and cephalometric X-rays.
•
Impressions for models of the teeth and bite.
We review your dental records, perform clinical
assessment, take X-rays of your mouth and head and make models of the teeth by creating an accurate impression of them. The results of this evaluation are studied in order to formulate the best orthodontic treatment plan. The standard treatment phase is one to two years. Following treatment, you will be required to wear a retainer for a period of time. The duration of orthodontic treatment varies based on your age, the extensiveness of the procedure (some people require more work than others) and how closely you follow your treatment plan. For example, younger patients may respond more quickly to treatment
than older patients because the bones supporting young teeth are more pliable than those supporting older teeth. However, adults tend to follow treatment instructions more consistently than preteens.
Metal brackets are very strong and can withstand most types of treatment. At first they may irritate
types of brackets. In addition, you can make them colorful with ligatures that come on a rainbow of colors.

Ceramic and “Tooth Colored” Braces
Invisalign Braces

In some cases the treatment time is longer. For example,
Invisalign braces are great for people who do not have severe problems. The “braces” consist of strong plastic trays that are fabricated especially for you. They are indeed invisible. If your bite is not severely off and your teeth are not severely crooked, then Invisalign would be a good choice. oral surgery and recovery may be needed before or during orthodontic treatment.
Metal brackets can be silver or tooth colored.
In the “old days”, metal braces were not just brackets, but bands that wrapped around the entire tooth. Nowadays, people wear small metal brackets that are glued to the front of each tooth (a big improvement!) Those oldfashioned bands are usually reserved for molars or teeth with fillings that spill to the outside surface of a tooth. Metal brackets tend to be less expensive than other
Invisalign braces are great for people who do not have severe problems. The “braces” consist of strong plastic trays that are fabricated especially for you. They are indeed invisible. If your bite is not severely off and your teeth are not severely crooked, then Invisalign would be a good choice. You would be able to get your teeth straightened without anyone seeing that you are wearing “braces”! This appeals to many adults, especially people who wore traditional braces as children and then need more treatment later in life. However, if your bite is very bad, if you need extractions or require headgear or other appliances, then Invisalign will not work for you; you will need to wear traditional braces.
Ceramic brackets are made of composite materials. They are very strong and generally do not stain. Adults like to choose ceramic because they “blend in” with the teeth and are less noticeable than metal. These are the type of braces actor Tom Cruise had. The ligatures (tiny rubber bands) that hold the arch wire on to the ceramic brackets are often white or clear.

Did you
know?
Going bananas Bananas are the world’s most popular fruit after tomatoes. In western countries, they could account for 3% of a grocer’s total sales. Bananas consistently are the number one compliant of grocery shoppers. Most people complain when bananas are overripe or even freckled. The fact is that spotted bananas are sweeter, with a sugar content of more than 20%, compared with 3% in a green banana. As if fighting with their consumers over bananas is not enough big retailers often turn on each other. In 2002, AsdaWalmart fired the first, uhm, banana in a price war with big British supermarket chain Tesco and others. The gorilla war (which includes guerrilla war tactics) would spill over onto other battle shelves and – even after a trade truce in 2009 – the price war is ongoing. Banana Trade War The banana war didn’t begin or end there. The biggest banana complaint desk is the World Trade Organization.
Starting in 1975 but eventually turning into the so-called Banana War in 1991, the United States peeled the gloves off to go up against the European Union, whose citizens go ape for the yellow wonder. The EU imports more than 3 billion tonnes annually… but that is less than the United States. This is not even half of the story. The Banana War eventually spilled over into Italian cheese, German coffee, French handbags and Scottish cashmere trade disputes. The gorillas refused to turn yellow and although the white flags reached halfmast in 2001 and in 2005, no-one came down their herb. (The banana plant is not a tree; it actually is a giant herb.) The banana war became the longest trade dispute in history, ending only in 2009 after 16 years. Banana Wars with Real Live Ammo Bananas obviously is no monkey business. The Banana Republics were called such because of the hideous Banana Wars (not to be confused with the mention Banana
Trade War), starting in the 1920s, in which thousands of innocent people died needlessly in the so-called American imperialism effort. It is now known in fair detail how big banana firms sponsored rightwing militias. Further reading on Corp Watch and Latin American Studies. The Beautiful Banana Fortunately, there is a very nice side to every banana. To get to the root of the not-so-humble banana as a beautiful tasty thingy, take a bite at banana.com. Keep in mind, though, that, true to the banana tradition, some of the serving is spotted. Savor this: the banana is not the world’s most popular fruit! That title belongs to what the French used to call “the apple of love” and the Germans “the apple of paradise” – the mighty tomato.
Why do onions make you cry?
myamimagazine.com
Why does water not calm the tongue after eating hot spicy food? The spices in most of the hot foods that we eat are oily, and, like your elementary school science teacher taught you, oil and water don’t mix. In this case, the water just rolls over the oily spices. What can you do to calm your aching tongue? Eat bread. The bread will absorb the oily
spices. A second solution is to drink milk. Milk contains a substance called “casein” which will bind to the spices and carry them away. Alcohol also dissolves oily spices.
Onions, like other plants, are made of cells. The cells are divided into two sections separated by a membrane. One side of the membrane contains an enzyme which helps chemical processes occur in your body. The other side of the membrane contains molecules that contain sulfur. When you cut an onion, the contents on each side of the membrane mix and cause a chemical reaction. This reaction produces molecules such as ethylsufine which make
your eyes water. To prevent crying when you cut an onion, cut it under a running tap of cold water. The sulfur compounds dissolve in water and are rinsed down the sink before they reach your eyes. You can also put the onion in the freezer for ten minutes before you cut it. Cold temperatures slow down the reaction between the enzyme and the sulfur compounds so fewer of the burning molecules will reach your eyes.

horoscope ARIES (March 21-April 19): You are prone to misplace your efforts from where it’s needed most. Don’t fight what you can’t change. Bond with the people you love. Resist the stimulus that knocks you off emotional balance.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): You want to accomplish much but are unprepared to achieve it. Impatient though you feel, you have to start small and slow to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to make an achievement.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): You don’t live up to your potential today. There can be tension because everyone sees it but you. You think you have all the time to get things done so you are wasteful in time and effort. Focus and be more efficient.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20): You give the impression of being relaxed and easy-going, which means that people don’t take you seriously. In being non-threatening, you actually look inconsequential. You need to be more assertive than you feel you need to be.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): There is unease at home. No large problems or crisis developments but there is a run of small annoyances that leaves the day unsatisfactory. These are challenged to see past incidents and focus on improving the relationships.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Your feelings are changeable today so your constant search for a friend doesn’t let you achieve it. You need to slow down, stay with someone long enough to explore deeply, past everyone’s social face.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20): While you have access to a lot of money, you’re liable to be wasteful with it. You may need someone else to control the purse strings since you can’t do it responsibly yourself.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): This is a day of intense work when you really want to relax. Challenges at work test your dedication. It may be that at your job consequences of past actions come back to you, requiring a lot of fixing.
CANCER (June 21-July 22): This isn’t a good time for negotiations. In almost every way you deal with people, you feel you’re on the losing side. You must be quick to find ways to deal from a position of strength because that’s the only way to get what you want.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): You’re apt to be opinionated today. While well-informed, you have trouble separating your own vested interests or conclusions from what you advise to others. Be fair and divulge all information.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): You are deeply sympathetic with people who are hurting today. Your ability to render aid is hindered, however. You need to persevere and find others who are as dedicated as you instead of fighting obstructive powers.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): You’re prone to show your beliefs in public but wearing your faith on your sleeve can be counterproductive. Instead of trying to convert people, let your beneficial actions do the preaching for you.
