WONDER The exhibition ‘Picasso Metamorphosis’, to be held at the Palazzo Reale from 18 October, will be a central feature of the autumn season in Milan: devoted to the multifaceted and fruitful relationship the Spanish genius entertained with myth and antiquity throughout his remarkable career, it aims to explore his intense and complex creative process from this particular perspective. Promoted and produced by the Cultural Department of the City Council of Milan, Palazzo Reale and MondoMostreSkira, the exhibition is curated by Pascale Picard, Director of the Civic Museums of Avignon. The project is part of an itinerary devoted to the great artist that Palazzo Reale has been developing for decades: a genuine cycle of Picasso exhibitions that has made the relationship between the Spanish master and Milan a special one. It all started with the display of Guernica in the Sala delle Cariatidi (Hall of Caryatids) in 1953: a remarkable event and a genuine gift to the city from Picasso. Almost half a century later, this was followed by the grand retrospective exhibition organized, in collaboration with the artist’s heirs, in September 2001, four days after the attack on the Twin Towers. Finally, the monographic exhibition of 2012 provided a chronological overview of the different techniques

WONDER and means of expression marking the Spanish master’s oeuvre. With ‘Picasso Metamorphosis’, the focus shifts to the various expressions of antiquity to be found in the mythologies reinvented by Picasso and illustrated in the six sections of the exhibition through the juxtaposition of works by the great artist and ancient ones – pottery, statues, votive plaques, reliefs, idols, and stelae – that have inspired and deeply influenced him. The exhibition ‘Picasso Metamorphosis’, therefore, aims to delve into the intimate workshop of a world-class artist in the light of the ancient sources that have inspired his work. But it also aims to reveal the underlying mechanisms of a unique alchemy that set antiquity at the heart of modernity, and which proved crucial for 20th-century art.

MAX BECKMANN From October 28 to January 27, 2019 the Museum of Art in Mendrisio (italian Switzerland, not too far from Milan) presents a great anthological exhibition dedicated to MAX BECKMANN (1884-1950), one of the greatest masters of modern art, an artist who, with Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, appears in some of the most important museums in the world. Despite his artistic mastery, his works - unsettling, enigmatic and sensual continue to be a challenge for the observer. Incredibly, his work is not known in the Italian cultural field: the only noteworthy exhibition was held in 1996 at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome.

FAI AUTUMN DAYS Visits on contribution in other 600 inaccesssible or poorly valued sites to discover our Country through new eyes and unusual perspective A weekend in which linger the gaze, often flleting and distracted, on the little known and usually inaccessible beauties of our Country, thanks to the thematic itineraries and to the special openings proposed by FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano throughout Italy. From North to South of the Peninsula, the invitations is to be surprised by the welth of Italian widespread heritage, discovering or rediscovering with curious eyes and from unusual perspectives over 600 sites in all regions. For the occasion, 3.800 volunteers will accompany the Italians along themed itineraries, to discover hundreds of inaccessible or little appreciated places, told with the enthusiastic spirit that characterizes young people. About 160 themed itineraries in as many cities, to be covered freely, in whole or in part, which will see the opening of mansions, churches, castles, archeological areas, gardens, industrials architectures, artisan shops, museums, lighthouses as well as intire neighborhoods and villages.

The “Blind date: concert in the dark” 2018/2019 tour with pianist and composer Cesare Picco, promoted by CBM Italia Onlus, is restarting from Milan Conservatory on 7th October 2018 (free entrance with mandatory reservation www.cbmitalia.org/blind-date/tour). Cesare Picco’s poetic improvisations take the audience into an unknown dimension, that surprises, fascinates and makes the audience wonder. “Blind date: concert in the dark”, in fact, isn’t just a concert, it is a sensorial experience with a great emotional impact, that goes beyond music and doesn’t stop at the melody itself: the depth of the darkness into which the audience is brought by Cesare Picco’s music, makes them experience the difficulties and privations that thousands of blind people are forced to live all over the world in their everyday life. CBM aim is to fight blindness in the poorest countries of the world, where many diseases related to sight can be healed if caught in time. “Blind Date: concert in the dark” in his alternation light – darkness – light, represents the hope for blind people that CBM helps each year. Millions of blind people that, thanks to a simple surgery or a work of prevention, are able to see again. The concert starts in half-light, then little by little every light is turned off, until the hall is fully reached by darkness which lasts for 30 minutes: after that, lights are turned on again as a sign of bringing people back to life. MILANO MUSIC WEEK 2018 The first Milano Music Week last year was truly a success, a week during which a large number of artists, clubs and music professionals lit a powerful beacon on a city that produces and hosts musical events all year round. This time, the challenge is to do even better. Not so much to increase the hard numbers, but to develop the depth of the music offerings and the quality of the events, always keeping in mind the idea that has guided us since last year: music is art, entertainment, culture, work and enterprise. This is the story of Vittorio Cerea who opened “Da Vittorio” restaurant in Bergamo’s town centre with his wife, Bruna, in 1966. Bergamo soon became an essential visit for lovers of haute cuisine and success also brought the first Michelin star (1978), which, matched by the wealth of accolades and glowing write ups by leading food critics from Italy and abroad, was doubled in 1996. In the second millennium, the dream of joining the ranks of the Best Restaurants in the World also became true. Firstly by becoming a “Relais Gourmand” (in the restaurants section) and then becoming part of the Relais&Chateaux and Les Grandes Tables du Monde circuits just a few months after moving to a gorgeous villa with accommodations at Brusaporto, nestling in the green Cantalupa hills. 2010 finally brought the highly sought-after, third Michelin star. Today the name “Da Vittorio” is a mark of excellence in the world of catering and hospitality. This installation in Milano is a sort of second episode of the Palermo’s staging in which it was investigating a sort of rebus with various events we can relate to. The furniture consisting in a desk and a bed that allude the artist studio; the works appear on the walls and on the desk. The author? Beninati? To exacerbate that sense of mystery and the stimulus of the investigation, is typical of the cultured poetry of this Sicilian artist.

The exhibition contextualizes the important role played by critics in the artistic and cultural milieu of Milan in the 1920s and 1930s, analyzing the period and the style of the years through the figure of the journalist and intellectual Margherita Sarfatti. The exhibition is produced in collaboration with the MART of Trento and Rovereto.
L’histoire de Manon by Kenneth MacMillan gave new life to the character made famous by the operas of the same name, delineating the charm and tragedy of the protagonist and creating splendid male roles, in a passionate and dramatically captivating ballet now interpreted by Svetlana Zakharova and Roberto Bolle.

PICASSO METAMORFOSI Palazzo Reale, from October 18th 2018 to February 17th 2019 The mythological repertoire responds to Picasso’s aesthetic exploration. Fauns, centaurs and minotaurs speak to the contemporary violence of war and of bullfighting, but also to the fantasy of unbridled eroticism. The ancient in myths reinvented by Picasso will be presented in five sections, roughly 200 works will be brought together.
A music festival that will be held in numerous theatres and clubs around the city, featuring both renowned and up-and-coming Italian and international artists. A great event that best represents the jazz musical universe: its history, its relevance and its future.
