“LEONARDO DA VINCI 3D” THE GENIUS OF THE RENAISSANCE AS YOU’VE NEV-ER SEEN IT BEFORE

“Leonardo Da Vinci 3D,” The largest event on Leonardo da Vinci ever produced, arrives in Milan at the Fabbrica del Vapore on Thursday, May 30th. In the true spirit of Leonardo’s futuristic nature, this engaging, immersive multimedia exhibition uses revolutionary technology to tell the story of Da Vinci’s Genius -- his life, his discoveries, his extraordinary works of art -- in larger than life multi-sensory mediums. Visitors young and old will be delighted with the surprising effects of this show. Between augmented re-ality and holograms, the exhibition breaks through traditional art exhibition boundaries, challenging the laws of physics, time and space with lights, images, sounds and colors. The Cathedral-like exhibition space of the Fabbrica del Vapore’s 1500 square meters has been meticulously designed specifically for digital natives, and deliberately challenges generational barriers to appeal to all age groups. “Leonardo Da Vinci 3D” is a bold and unprecedented attempt to mix traditional and innovative under-standings of Da Vinci, embracing the vast complexities in an open dialogue with the public to increase crit-ical and conscious use of technological information. Digital art can, in its various forms, both tangible and intangible, represent a valid instrument of knowledge, an opportunity to get closer to the expressive cre-ativity of an artist, to the bold evolutions of his mind. Conceived as a journey over 500 years, travelling from the past to the future, the “Leonardo da Vinci 3D” exhibition will let you “live” the master of the Italian Renaissance with a life-sized holographic Leonardo who shares his thoughts with visitors about important moments of his life. Exhibition areas will take the visitor through an extraordinary span of Leonardo’s universe: from his inven-tion of a car to other discoveries; from the museum gallery with the digital reproduction of his most fa-mous paintings in real scale, to the mirror room dedicated to the flights he conceived; from a game of mir-rors and reflections that cross his painted or drawn landscapes, up to the large immersive room.

WONDER Virtual attractions include an interactive pop-up augmented reality book of ingenious war and flight ma-chines, and the VR corner with Oculus stations that allow visitors to virtually enter the world of Leonardo including the life-size representation of his “Last Supper.” The itinerary also includes a room dedicated to the city of Milan where, thanks to the collaboration with Fratelli Alinari, photographs of the bombing of Santa Maria delle Grazie (headquarters of the Cenacle) and its reconstruction, together with documentation of the discovery of the Mona Lisa after the theft, the passage to the Uffizi and the definitive relocation to the Louvre will all be on exhibition. Also on exhibi-tion at the center of the room is an original historical machine by the Alinari Brothers and some authentic copies of the Da Vinci Codes. A dedicated room for children inside the exhibition offers an opportunity for them to explore their own artistic and engineering genius inspired by the exhibition. Furthermore, throughout the opening period, in collaboration with ARTEBAMBINI, groups may book specific educational workshops designed to further stimulate their creativity and ingenuity.

16 | June – July 2019

WONDER The extraordinary participation of Italy’s National Research Council’s institute of high performance com-puting and networking (CNR - ICAR) will bring “Al4Museum,” a mix of two AIs (artificial intelligences) that will animate a robot and a holographic system, with its own display that can offer additional multimedia virtual content in touch-free mode. The show is produced by MEDARTEC and the City of Milan and is designed by the awardwinning Floren-tine group, ART MEDIA STUDIO. Other collaborators include Italy’s High Performance Computing and Networking Institute (ICAR) of the National Research Council (CNR) and FRATELLI ALINARI, the oldest photographic archive in the world.

A great experience to discover Milan and the genius of Leonardo&Warhol Coming from different eras, characterised by different styles, Leonardo da Vinci and Andy Warhol are both genius artists, connected by one of the greatest masterpieces of all times: the Last Supper. The exhibition “Leonardo & Warhol in Milano. The genius experience” features a multimedia installation with highly impactful images that lead visitors through the city of Milan lived, imagined and drawn by Leonardo da Vinci up to a modern, reinterpreted version of the Last Supper dating back to 1986 by the pop-art master Andy Warhol.

Designed to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death, the itinerary through art hosted in the spaces of the Crypt of San Sepolcro analyses some of the core themes in Leonardo’s work such as the use of water, the relationship between men and earth, as well as nature, technological and architectural innovation. The same way Leonardo during his stay in Milan invented a new way to see the world through his painting, an innovative technique that has opened the way to the development of science, centuries later Andy Warhol has opened the doors to a new interpretation of masterpieces in art.

“Surrogati. Un amore ideale” An exhibition explores the notions of familal, romantic and sexual LoVe Fondazione Prada presents “Surrogati. Un amore ideale” (Surrogate. A Love Ideal), an exhibition curated by Melissa Harris, from 21 February to 22 July 2019 at the Osservatorio venue in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan. Comprising a selection of 42 photographic works by Jamie Diamond (Brooklyn, USA, 1983) and Elena Dorfman (Boston, USA, 1965), the project explores the notions of familial, romantic and sexual love. Both artists focus on a specific and unconventional aspect of this universal theme: the emotional link between a man or a woman and a synthetic representation of a human. As explained by Melissa Harris, “together, Diamond’s and Dorfman’s work presented in ‘Surrogati’ vividly and nonjudgmentally documents the interactions of humans with their lifelike, inanimate companions.”

WONDER

June – July 2019 | 31

WONDER In her series “Forever Mothers” (2012-2018) and “Nine Months of Reborning” (2014), Jamie Diamond documented the life of an outsider art making community called the Reborners, a group of self-taught female artists who hand-make, collect and interact with hyper-realistic dolls that fulfill a desire for motherhood. In her other exhibited project titled “I Promise to be a Good Mother” (2007-2012), Diamond played the role of a perfect mother, dressing up in her own mother’s clothes and interacting with Annabelle, a reborn doll. Inspired by and named after a diary she kept as a girl, the project evolved into an exploration of the complexity of social stereotypes and cultural conventions that surround and shape the relationship between mother and child. “Still Lovers” (2001-04), a series of photographs that brought Elena Dorfman international acclaim, focuses on the domestic lives of men and women who devote themselves to lifesize, anatomically realistic sex dolls. Her photographs explore the emotional ties between humans and perfectly formed synthetic women, forcing us to evaluate our own notions of love and the value of an object that has the power to replace a human being. The artist’s interest was not to exploit the deviancy of these sexual surrogates, but rather to reveal the fascinating world of intimacy between flesh and silicone. Both photographers portrayed these lifelike surrogates as desired, fetishized, and idealized beings, “living” as such with their flesh and blood mothers and partners, and sometimes with their immediate families as well. As stated by Melissa Harris, “by showing these vignettes of traditional domesticity, love, and/or eroticism, Dorfman’s and Diamond’s representations take on an unexpected poignancy.”

Broken Nature is an in-depth exploration of the strands that connect humans to the natural environment that have been intensely compromised, if not entirely severed, over the years. The XXII Triennale di Milano comprises a selection of circa 100 projects from the last three decades, examples of restorative design, architecture, and art from all over the world. Among them, Broken Nature includes new installations and objects – like Alexandra Fruhstorfer’s Transitory Yarn, Dominique Chen’s Nuka-doko, and Google Brain’s Whale Song – and milestones like Pettie Petzer and Johan Jonker’s Hippo Roller, Elemental’s Quinta Monroyhousing, Martino Gamper’s 100 Chairs in 100 Days, and Zach Lieberman et al.’s Eyewriter low-cost, open source eye-tracking system. These projects, which have played an essential role in the history and advancement of design, have in some cases had a memorable impact on society and in the way humans related to the world around them. This is the first time that these projects are all placed within the same conversation, and in fact the same space, with the aim to unearth design’s potential to mediate societal and behavioral changes. Villa Sola Cabiati

A Rare Jewel of Italian Ars vivendi “Villa Sola Cabiati is an artistic masterpiece, a rare jewel of Italian ars vivendi” Dott. Paolo De Santis, CEO The Grand Hotel Tremezzo, an icon of period style and elegance, reopens its doors for the 2017 season announcing the marriage with the magnificent Villa Sola Cabiati, that will be available for unique indigenous experiences and events exclusively for its guests. Once belonging to the Serbelloni, a family of dukes, the residence is renowned for the beauty of its rooms frescoed by the Tiepolo school, the tranquillity reigning in its gardens, and its refined events and receptions. Giuseppe Parini, poet, writer, the greatest representative of the Italian Enlightenment and, most notably, tutor to Duke Gian Galeazzo Serbelloni (1754-1762), described the Serbelloni family’s beloved summer residence, sitting on the Riviera Tremezzina, as “La Quiete”. Indeed in the second half of the 18th century, it was Gian Galeazzo Serbelloni, son of Gabrio and Maria Vittoria Ottoboni, who gave the villa its current appearance: the grand building flanked by two side wings, the large staircase, the marble balconies, the blue shutters – an homage to the lake waters – and the beautiful Italian garden, divided into four elegant parterres bursting with flowers, with parkland dotted with ferns and sweet-smelling trees sloping up towards the mountain.

For the interiors, Gian Galeazzo contacted Muzio Canzio, a distinguished stucco artist from Val d’Intelvi, and Francesco Conegliani, a pupil at Tiepolo’s workshop in Milan, who painted a cycle of frescoes inspired by Virgil’s Aeneid, a theme likely suggested by Giuseppe Parini. In addition to the extraordinary collection of tapestries, vases and majolica, the villa also boasts some examples of fine furniture, including the bed slept in by Napoleon and his wife Joséphine de Beauharnais, saved from the bombing that destroyed part of Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan during World War II. The collections can be visited accompanied by a family member. Following Luisa Serbelloni’s marriage to marquis Lodovico Busca, the property passed to the marquis’ family. The elegance and splendour of the villa did not go unnoticed by their contemporaries, with Carlo Amoretti, an 18th century scientist and art scholar from Milan, writing: “Tremezzo counts many pleasant and magnificent villas, Villa Clerici, Villa Sommariva, the villas of the Brentani, Mainoni, and De Carli families, and yet la Quiete of the Serbelloni, and now of the Busca family, exceeds them all.” In 1813, the architect Francesco Bernardini Ferrari designed the splendid mooring, described at the time as “four majestic set of steps shaded by sycamores, leading towards Villa Quiete”. The villa was finally inherited by the Sola Cabiati, a lineage of counts, connected to the Busca family when Antonietta Busca married Andrea Sola in 1871. Now, in 2017, the owners of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo have announced the extraordinary marriage with Villa Sola Cabiati to offer its guests exclusive access to this masterpiece of art, culture and Italian ars vivendi.

SHOPPING & STYLE Since its foundation in 1956, Fragiacomo has been synonymous with contemporary luxury. The strong personality of the Fragiacomo woman and man lead the DNA of the brand into a new contemporary dimension, in which the contamination between 60 years of knowhow and modern culture is the essence. To Fragiacomo, heritage never equates to constriction. It represents, instead, a value to be cherished, which contributes to the creation of perfection. The deeply rooted tradition of style and coherence of the brand lays the foundation for a wonderful story of luxury Made in Italy. Fragiacomo presents seasonal shoes, bags and accessories collections as well as special Capsule Collections with new concepts and new interpretation of modern feminine style. All pieces are 100% hand made in Italy by the best artisans with great attention to details. In 2018 a new chapter for Fragiacomo has begun since Alessio Spinelli was appointed as a Creative Director of the brand. His bold aesthetics join the decisive elegance and continuous evolution of a brand that has been able to unite the craftsmanship and its stylistic codes in iconic timeless pieces. “Alessio has immediately felt the DNA of Fragiacomo, stating the guidelines and being able to interpret without distorting a physiological evolution of the brand giving it back that vanguard that has always characterized the maison from a stylistic point of view” - says the CEO of Fragiacomo Federico Pozzi Chiesa. Alessio Spinelli that has a great expertise in shoes design, that worked with big fashion brands and also won “Who is on Next” contest by Vogue in 2011 gave a fresh start to Fragiacomo with the first collection created by him for the SS19 season. Vibrant colors, reinterpreted iconic floral application, elegance and irony define the new SS19 Women’s Collection.

In the new course particular importance will also be reserved to the bag: the collection will include different models of bags that, reviewed in the color palette and in the appeal, with a softly glam-rock tone, recall and enhance the great classics of the Fragiacomo tradition, from the Icon to the new styles. In particular the Icon Bag is the star of Fragiacomo collections. BIANCHI e NARDI 1946 Bianchi e Nardi 1946 for over 70 years has been a luxury craft brand of fine and exotic leather with an ancient Florentine history and tradition. Mario Bianchi and Aldemaro Nardi, historical founders of the manufacturing, are now replaced by 5 young dynamic entrepreneurs who are representing the third generation of the two families. The extreme care for details is the real secret of the Maison: the techniques used to treat the finest leathers, crocodiles, ostriches and pythons, are exclusive and aimed at the pursuit of perfection in every detail. Leather processing has always been one of the milestones of the Maison. In particular, one of the secrets handed down for three generations concerns the “gleam” given to the crocodile skin, thanks to a special procedure called “agatatura”: it is the action of the agate stone, skillfully controlled by a master craftsman, making the surface so bright and levigate it is almost diamond-like.

“Broken Nature” is the theme for the XXII edition of the International Exhibition of the Triennale di Milano, highlighting the relation between man and his environment, a bond that over the years has been deeply compromised. In addition to the thematic exhibition, the Triennale consists in twenty-two international participations, in an installation titled “The Great Animal Orchestra” and in the special exhibition “The Nation of Plants”.

Anna Maria Maiolino has produced works steeped in vital force, which combine Italian creativity with the experimentations of Brazilian avant-gardes.
