WONDER of young bands broke the banks, both in western and communist countries. Young people begin to recognize themselves as a social “entity”, with proper rules, opinions and needs. They to be like fathers and mothers, preferring hippies to imposed rules. It is important to understand those years, because since 1966 and 1970, that undermined the post-war society’s to found our current lifestyle from working class to royal families. Marketing killed the rock’n’roll stars It was not only a matter of music and culture. The world, in those four years, lived on the one hand the explosion of well-being and schooling that produced a veritable wave of freedom, love, friendship, to the point where run out of control. There is considerable literature, according to which the great occult powers of the world reacted to the danger of the great progressive wave, which repudiated nationalism, fought capitalism and would soon begin to undermine real communism. The protest movement therefore lost important figures in a few years, such as Martin Luther King, John Fitgerald Kennedy, Pope John, Che Guevara, almost all because of hidden powers. On the other hand, a strong dose of consumerism became the way the “system” led the revolutionary charge of rock bands, into slavery of vice and selfdestruction. During the Altamont festival night - the Rolling Stones on stage – the attempt to reply to Woodstock triumph a few months later, closed the rock’n’roll revolution with four people killed among the public. The Beatles split up the following year, not even a year after the moon landing. The sacrifice of rock stars was celebrated in the name of individualism, washing away the concept of “progress”… “to the neon god they made” as forseen in “Sound of Silence” by Paul Simon. 20 | February - March 2018

PAC is one of the first examples in Italy of an exhibition space fully dedicated to contemporary art. Through its work, that began in 1979, it has always tried to generate all sorts of discussion on art and to call the attention to the contemporary projects, casting a glance towards the future. The program of PAC is developed by the Department of Culture of Milan along with Italian and international guest curators, in cooperation with private partners for every exhibition. Over the years, it has hosted key names in the international contemporary art scene as Laurie Anderson, Kounellis, Duane Hanson, Emilio Vedova, Andres Serrano, Lucio Fontana, Richard Long, Vanessa Beecroft, Marina Abramovic, Yayoi Kusama, Tony Oursler and many others. In addition to these projects, there are often proposals for research and experimentation with artists not well known to the Italian public yet and for an overview on the national scene, with single and collective exhibitions dedicated to Italian artists of different generations.

KOKOKID BRILLIANT POP Kokokid’s – aka Massimo Malpezzi – works are designs with a strong visual impact. He was influenced from an early age by the fascination of his father’s works, a ceramist and futurist painter himself, by the graffiti artists and the Anglo-American pop art. Ha has always been open to testing. Over the years, he has developed a very personal style, based on irony and wit, influenced by the comics and graphic schools. Kokokid’s works are colorful. They are made out of waste materials with bright colors applied on big surfaces. Moreover, a keen attention to the technique goes in hand with the selection of the subjects that must catch the eye of the beholder and entertain him. The heroes from the comics are turned into a particular “villain version” of themselves, carrying a knife in their hands.

Kokokid’s works are displayed in his atelier Cromosoma 21 (v. Privata Liutprando 9) that can be visited by appointment calling 344.0459620. February - March 2018 | 31

THE HIGHLIGHT: the Biosauna-Tram The first biosauna in the world realized inside a tram!

Be it winter or summer time, the important thing is to go out of this peaceful sanctuary feeling completely renvigorated and reborned. The tram is there to help you reach your goal since it has been converted into a biosauna. It’s the first biosauna in the world realized inside a tram. This vehicle of the ATM (Milan Transport Company) – a real historical tram of Milan- parked in the grass brings you, on the side of a moment of wellness, also some laughs at the thought that you are sitting in a tram with steamy windows in your bathing suit! And after the 70°C degrees you breathe inside of it, you can immerse in the reaction tub at 15°C degrees and then, why not, enjoy a massage in the shade of the gazebo.

The Galleria and its rooftop was built at the end of the 1800 and dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II, the king that made Milan join the Reign of Italy. “Vittorio Emanuele Galleria” was built by Giuseppe Mengoni that proposed a long gallery, crossed by an arm, with the center of the intersection a large octagonal “room” . The Octagon in the center is considered the living room of the city named also “Il Salotto di Milano”. On its floor, in the center, there

From the rooftop of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele you can admire Piazza Duomo and the Cathedral, Piazza della Scala and the new city skyline named Porta Nuova. So you can have a 360° panoramic view on Milan. The terraces route is 250 meters long and there are also parking areas and panels that explain the history of thegallery and a lighting system for night visits. This second ballet production was created in 1993 and is now staged at La Scala for the first time. Alexey Botvinov’s piano, performing the mathematical and symmetrical schemes of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, interacts with the movement of the solos, pas de deux and ensemble scenes. For Spoerli, the Goldberg Variations are similar to life: bonds are created, couples get together and are later separated, in perpetual movement.

The old part of Bergamo, Bergamo Alta (Upper Bergamo) has been inhabited since Celtic times. Its strategic high position dominates the fertile plane from where Etruscans, Barbarians, Romans, Longobards conquered the city. In 1200 it was an independent city but the Visconti army from Milan conquered it again in the XIV century, not for long since in 1300 Bergamo was in the hands of the Venetian Republic.

REMEMBRANCE

HISTORICAL SIGHTS IN MILAN

“BIFFI IN GALLERIA” It was 1852 when Paolo Biffi, the confectiner of His Majesty the King of Italy, opened the Biffi bakery and cafè in the heart of Milan, which was back then brimming with gardens and inland waterways. The famous Biffi pastry and its specialty, the Panettone, soon became famous among Milan’s most refined circles, delighting the princes of Savoy and the most prestigious families in the city. The Galleria was designed by Giuseppe Mengoni in honor of King Victor Emmanuel II and to celebrate the annexation of Lombardy to Piedmont. Once the construction works had been concluded, Biffi moved into this elegant venue, which was inaugurated on September 15, 1867. Both in the moments of glory and in those of crisis, Biffi and of the Galleria share a common fate. The venue was, and stilli s, located in the octagonal center of the Galleria, under Pagliano’s fresco titled “Africa”, and initially it occupied several showcases and a first foor with elegant windows. The father of 10 daughters, all working and “married in the Galleria”, Mr Biffi was one of the few men who could afford a yearly rent of 30 thousand lire for

A meeting place for artists, writers and musicians, attended by Luigi Capuana, Emilio de Marchi or Giovanni Pozza, it’s not by chance that Biffi is often mentioned in texts dealing with the Galleria, mentioning the evening concerts and the noise of cutlery and worldliness that came from inside the place, arousing the curiosity of bystanders. Today, the “Biffi in Galleria” occupies only two rooms on the ground floor and can accomodates a hundred customers. It hasn’t undergone any substantial changes since the 70s, and the green walls brimming with paintings still give this place a pleasant retro atmosphere.

THE RETURN OF THE LEGENDARY COPPA MILANO-SANREMO

82 | February - March 2018

REMEMBRANCE

The legendary Coppa Milano-Sanremo open-road endurance rally returns to re-ignite the enthusiasm of classic and vintage automobile lovers. 112 years have passed since the first edition in 1906, and seven since the last historic revival in 2011, but soon—from March 22 to March 24, 2018—a brand new chapter will be written in the annals of regularity rally history about this “grande dame” of open-road rallies, which has always had “seductive” power over Italian and foreign teams—both male and female alike. Now, thanks to a group of passionate Milanese entrepreneurs—who are motivated by the same spirit that inspired those pioneering gentlemen-drivers from another era to give life to the Coppa MilanoSanremo over a hundred years ago—have set themselves the ambitious goal of bringing this historic time-speed-distance rally back to life once again in all of its glorious splendour.
