Palazzo Reale has ancient origins and its history is interwoven with that of Milan and of the families who governed the city. From the Sforza dynasty to Napoleon and from the plague to the bombardments, countless persons and major events have shaped both the structure and the functions of the Palazzo; it is a reflection of the influential powers that alternated in the city government and which changed the appearance of the edifice over the centuries, until it became the prestigious location for major art exhibitions in Milan that we know today. The First Italian exhibition devoted to the american photographer
MAST Foundation presents for the first time in Italy an exhibition entirely devoted to the american photographer W. Eugene Smith and his monumental work carried out since 1955 in Pittsburgh, at the time the main industrial city in the world. The project, considered by Smith as the most ambitious exploit of his career, was never completed and only a limited number of images came to the public. The exhibition at MAST, curated by Urs Stahel, proposes the main core of this magnificent and labored work with more than 170 photographs which make a portrait of Pittsburgh and at the same time of America in the Fifties, between lights, shadows and promises of happiness and progress. The exhibition is organised by MAST Foundation in cooperation with Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh.

Villa Sola Cabiati
A Rare Jewel of Italian Ars vivendi “Villa Sola Cabiati is an artistic masterpiece, a rare jewel of Italian ars vivendi” Dott. Paolo De Santis, CEO The Grand Hotel Tremezzo, an icon of period style and elegance, reopens its doors for the 2017 season announcing the marriage with the magnificent Villa Sola Cabiati, that will be available for unique indigenous experiences and events exclusively for its guests. Once belonging to the Serbelloni, a family of dukes, the residence is renowned for the beauty of its rooms frescoed by the Tiepolo school, the tranquillity reigning in its gardens, and its refined events and receptions. Giuseppe Parini, poet, writer, the greatest representative of the Italian Enlightenment and, most notably, tutor to Duke Gian Galeazzo Serbelloni (1754-1762), described the Serbelloni family’s beloved summer residence, sitting on the Riviera Tremezzina, as “La Quiete”. Indeed in the second half of the 18th century, it was Gian Galeazzo Serbelloni, son of Gabrio and Maria Vittoria Ottoboni, who gave the villa its current appearance: the grand building flanked by two side wings, the large staircase, the marble balconies, the blue shutters – an homage to the lake waters – and the beautiful Italian garden, divided into four elegant parterres bursting with flowers, with parkland dotted with ferns and sweet-smelling trees sloping up towards the mountain.
For the interiors, Gian Galeazzo contacted Muzio Canzio, a distinguished stucco artist from Val d’Intelvi, and Francesco Conegliani, a pupil at Tiepolo’s workshop in Milan, who painted a cycle of frescoes inspired by Virgil’s Aeneid, a theme likely suggested by Giuseppe Parini. In addition to the extraordinary collection of tapestries, vases and majolica, the villa also boasts some examples of fine furniture, including the bed slept in by Napoleon and his wife Joséphine de Beauharnais, saved from the bombing that destroyed part of Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan during World War II. The collections can be visited accompanied by a family member. Following Luisa Serbelloni’s marriage to marquis Lodovico Busca, the property passed to the marquis’ family. The elegance and splendour of the villa did not go unnoticed by their contemporaries, with Carlo Amoretti, an 18th century scientist and art scholar from Milan, writing: “Tremezzo counts many pleasant and magnificent villas, Villa Clerici, Villa Sommariva, the villas of the Brentani, Mainoni, and De Carli families, and yet la Quiete of the Serbelloni, and now of the Busca family, exceeds them all.” In 1813, the architect Francesco Bernardini Ferrari designed the splendid mooring, described at the time as “four majestic set of steps shaded by sycamores, leading towards Villa Quiete”. The villa was finally inherited by the Sola Cabiati, a lineage of counts, connected to the Busca family when Antonietta Busca married Andrea Sola in 1871. Now, in 2017, the owners of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo have announced the extraordinary marriage with Villa Sola Cabiati to offer its guests exclusive access to this masterpiece of art, culture and Italian ars vivendi.

Dolce&Gabbana’s Orologeria A fascinating Union between the Sicilian Baroque art and Swiss technical precision
It was 2012 when Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana undertook a new and exciting adventure. At first, they approached the world of watchmaking somewhat warily. A fascinating universe with a venerable history, one that demands a broad yet detailed technical expertise. From the intricate construction of a movement to the structure of a case that can accommodate it, everything must pass through the skilled hands of master technicians. Humbled, yet eager to deepen their knowledge, the Designers created their fi rst collection of men’s watches, designed by them but built and assembled by master watchmakers. Combining precious materials with the most significant symbols of the Dolce&Gabbana aesthetic universe, all tied together with impeccable craftsmanship and the finest Swiss movements. The debut collection consisted of three men’s line and the year 2013 saw the debut of the DG7 for women, delicate and elegant timepieces for which even more careful and in-depth

Indeed, most of the gems used were cut to unique specifications, and the colours are composed in a way that would make any woman’s heart flutter. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s exciting story is built of memories, roots and tradition. The Sicilian Baroque is surely the most intimate chapter for the two Designers, whose creativity reaches its loftiest heights with Dolce&Gabbana Alta Orologeria. The sparkle of gold, the taste for the extraordinary, the broad and intricate baroque volutes that have been disassembled, recomposed, and ultimately miniaturized into authentic icons of culture and fine jewellery-making. MUST HAVE KMO SHORT CHAIN PRODUCTION MODEL: THE ESSENCE OF COUTURE
Just a few steps from Rotonda Besana, in Viale Montenero, stands a special store. The idea was conceived by two entrepreneurs, partners in business and lifelong friends: Graziella Contin Mancini and Vania Sommariva. Together they developed a new, innovative concept, containing the most fundamental aspects of their extensive experience in the luxury fashion industry: passion, expertise and refined aesthetic taste. Must Have km0 is not a simple atelier of exclusive pieces, it is something much more distinctive. A trendy boutique where you can find everything that you could wish to have in your wardrobe: from the must-haves of the season to timeless pieces with a modern twist. It is a unique shopping experience, where among lemons, apples and peppers hide dream dresses, cashmere sweaters and precious jewelry. The layout of the shop pays tribute to the agricultural sector from which km0 borrows its visionary production model. The garments are all high quality, exclusive pieces, sewn and packaged in small artisan workshops in neighboring Milan, following the principles of the short chain production model.
Graziella Contin Mancini, Project Leader of the brand Must Have km0, as well as a Fashion Consultant for other companies, has developed a profound experience in the role of Manager for several of the fashion industry’s leading brands, including “Maison Valentino”. Polimero, a book that talks to the heart Polimero by Riccardo Mari is a book that hits the heart of the reader. Just like the macromolecule inspiring its name, it is made up of different stories. Among them, there is one about Paolo, looking for himself, caught in between teenage loves and deeper feelings that will jeopardize his exsistence. The best haircut in the heart of Milan Hair cuts, massages, body treatments and care.
Brera13 Milano is an off-the-beaten track oasis. It’s a place where fashion meets relaxation. What is more is that it is located in the midst of historic Milan, having one salon in bohemian Brera district and the other one a few steps away from Duomo. But what is it exactly about? This magic place offers hair and body treatments: musé shatush, hair botox, organic hennè, hair colouring, hairstyle, make up, nail, waxing, massages, and much more. And for those who want to make the most of it, try the extra luxury Hair Spa and enjoy a cromotherapy treatment while listening to relaxing music and having a haircut seated on a massage chair. Serena Calvelli is the Creative Director of Brera13Milano. Since 7 years she is the accredited Hairstylist for Milano Fashion Week, working on the looks of several famous fashion shows. Taking personality very much into account when working, she is the creator of the “dry cut”. As she puts it “it’s only observing and working on dry hair that you can seize the beauty, the weight, and the personality of it. You just follow its soul. No rules, no stereotypes. It’s the customer’s personality that has to be put at the center of attention when creating a new look. I create ad hoc looks”. But let’s get deeper and ask her more about it.

practice and expertise in the beauty field. In Italy Heylash is now a point of reference in the world of eyelash and eyebrow treatments and its aim is to enhance the beauty of the female gaze, regardless of age, ethnicity and the individual characteristics of each woman. According to Heylash, in fact, beauty has neither time nor boundaries. “Our treatments” explains Sonia, “aim to value every type of beauty, taking care of those features which make a visage unique: eyelashes and eyebrows”. “Our Lash Makers, or better, Lash Artists”, adds Andrea, “study carefully the shape of the face and the eyes, realizing tailored treatments for each woman, both combining curving, thickness and length for the perfect extension result both giving the right outline to eyebrows through permanent and semi-permanent reconstruction”. Heylash professionists take also care of the health of eyebrows and eyelashes, recommending, for example, strenghtening and nourishing treatments, like the innovative lash botox. In the beauty concept store, customers can indulge entirely in the pampering of expert hands and can take all the time necessary to enjoy the deserved relaxation. Therefore, Heylash put women’s well-being and beauty first and it gives value to the look of any age, colour and shape, creating a tailor-made treatment for each woman. In this way Heylash has overturned a standard and a homologated concept of beauty, launching this important message: diversity is beauty and must be brought out because it contains the real essence of being unique.

Starting from the memory of the ancient knowledge that is linked to the prestigious story of the Venetian Calegheri guild (documented since 1268), up to the modern industrial production, that makes this district an excellent example of the successful Venetian enterprise.
