Milan is paying tribute anew to the great master with the exhibition Dentro Caravaggio (Inside Caravaggio), which will be held, once again, at Palazzo Reale from 29 September 2017, and feature 18 masterworks by Caravaggio displayed together for the very first time. The show is unique not only because it will present to the public works from the leading Italian museums and equally important museums abroad, but also because Caravaggio’s canvases will be flanked by their respective X-radiographic images for the first time. This will enable visitors to follow and discover, through the innovative use of multimedia technologies, the artist’s creative process from the initial idea to the finished work.
INTERESTING FACTS Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio was an important Italian artist and was born in Milan on 29 September 1571. In just under 15 years – he died in 1610 after a stormy life that ended tragically – he completely revolutionized painting technique through his naturalistic subjects, realistic settings and highlyindividual use of light and shade.

CARAVAGGIO - San Giovanni Battista
WONDER The exhibition is promoted and produced by the Milan City Council – Culture, Palazzo Reale and MondoMostre Skira, in association with the MIBACT – Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism. The Gruppo Bracco is the exhibition Partner for the new investigative diagnostics. The exhibition is designed by Studio Cerri & Associati. The show is curated by Rossella Vodret, assisted by a prestigious scientific committee chaired by Keith Christiansen. The aim is to offer a new take on Caravaggio’s extraordinary artistic production over the years, through two principal interpretative keys: the diagnostic investigations and new documentary research that have led to a reassessment of the chronology of Caravaggio’s early works. This was made possible, in fact, by the new data yielded by the documents and also the results of the scientific analyses – for years the new frontier of research for art history as well as restoration.

MUBA: PLAYING WITH LIGHT TO FIND COLOR!
MUBA is a permanent center of cultural and artistic projects for children aimed at promoting family game: the parents /adults are invited to share the museum experience with their children. The museum is in the middle of a beautiful public garden. Inside there are Rotonda Corraini bookshop and Round Bistrò restaurant. Three galleries inside, the garden and the external gallery become the space to taste local food (zero food miles) cooked in the kitchen, drink a cappuccino, try the “for kids” specialties, drink quietly an “aperitivo”, discover the pic-nic basket and all the specials for families.
78 | October - November 2017
PARTICIPATION
The exhibition was created with the goal of bringing children closer to the world of color and light through an exciting, active and sensory journey. The ability to properly use colors is not a gift of nature but it is the result of a proper education. Like music, color has some harmonious rules, and it is important to learn them since the preschool age. To understand color you must learn to see; knowing how to see gives us new keys for understanding reality. The interactive exhibition is divided into four different installations, created by MUBA and Francesca Valan an italian Color Designer, with the support of five professionals in the art, photography and photography industry. Every installation therefore has as a topic a particular aspect of color and light, with the aim, through experience and play, to discover and experience the scientific phenomena that govern this particular relationship. The children are asked to perform simple and instinctive tasks that pertain to their daily life: be it playing with shadows, hide-and-seek, or passing through large colored tubes, every experience is aimed at the discovery of the colorful universe that surrounds us. At the exhibition you play without shoes, we recommend the use of non-slip socks!

Lucio Fontana. “Ambienti/Environments”
82 | October - November 2017
PARTICIPATION
Fontana’s “Spatial Environments” are considered the most innovative outcome of the theories about space that Lucio Fontana first expressed in his Manifiesto Blanco of 1946. Here and in later manifestos, he described a new form of visual representation linked to space and time, which would move past the classic materials of sculpture and painting and employ modern technology to create “artificial forms, rainbows of wonder, words written in light” (Lucio Fontana, Spaziali, 1947 in Lucio Fontana, Manifesti scritti interviste, edited by Angela Sanna, Milan, 2015). Within a low-light setting, the exhibition presents a series Fontana’s Spatial Environments, independent rooms specifically designed by the artist. This layout, a new and unusual one for Pirelli HangarBicocca’s vast Navate space, allows the public to discover the installations one at a time. As visitors move through and linger within them, they gain a full sense of their groundbreaking significance: the amazing iconic and aesthetic power that makes these works so innovative even today.

PARTICIPATION
Lucio Fontana’s Biography Lucio Fontana (Rosario, Argentina 1899 – Varese, Italy 1968) is internationally recognized as one of the most innovative artists of the 20th century and his work, a major influence for the subsequent generations of artists, resonates still today for its originality. Fontana dedicated his entire career to investigating the concepts of space, light, the void and the cosmos through the use of the most varied materials amongst which ceramic, plaster, cement and paint. He extended the boundaries of art through an awareness of new technology, such as neon and UV light, and new media such as television. In order to introduce these avant-garde concepts, Fontana wrote several manifestos in which he defined his artistic research in terms of spatial movement, known in Italian as Spazialismo, which he founded in Italy in 1947.

The best running routes in Milan There are some pretty good reasons for running in Milan! Although the city may not be the friendliest of places for runners, even in the very centre you can find some nice paths for any season. Da Vittorio Restaurant the Story of a Talent 98 | October - November 2017
TASTE
This is the story of Vittorio Cerea who opened “Da Vittorio” restaurant in Bergamo’s town centre with his wife, Bruna, in 1966. Bergamo soon became an essential visit for lovers of haute cuisine and success also brought the first Michelin star (1978), which, matched by the wealth of accolades and glowing write ups by leading food critics from Italy and abroad, was doubled in 1996. In the second millennium, the dream of joining the ranks of the Best Restaurants in the World also became true. Firstly by becoming a “Relais Gourmand” (in the restaurants section) and then becoming part of the Relais&Chateaux and Les Grandes Tables du Monde circuits just a few months after moving to a gorgeous villa with accommodations at Brusaporto, nestling in the green Cantalupa hills. 2010 finally brought the highly sought-after, third Michelin star. Today the name “Da Vittorio” is a mark of excellence in the world of catering and hospitality. Devotion acknowledged by the guidebooks - Three Michelin Stars – and the loyalty of an ever-increasing clientele. Da Vittorio is run by Signora Bruna Cerea and her five children. Enrico and Roberto are both chefs, Francesco manages the wine cellar and catering services, Rossella is head of hospitality at the Restaurant and Dimora, while Barbara runs Cavour 1880, the café-patisserie in Bergamo Alta.
October - November 2017 | 99
TASTE The concept of “Lombard tradition and creative genius” is the leitmotiv of Da Vittorio’s menus, which are regularly updated and altered to keep up with changes in the market and in the seasons. The care, attention and exploration of culinary themes is kept wide-ranging to please all palates. The most diverse palates, personal tastes or culinary requirements can all find pleasure and innovation here: meat and fish, game and seafood, mushrooms and truffles, not to mention fruit and vegetables, all prepared with an original style that also takes into account the new frontiers in healthy cuisine.
Interesting Facts : Catering Da Vittorio From Bergamo to Los Angeles: the Cerea family takes its delectable gastronomic prêt-à-porter around the world. Even in the early days, Da Vittorio has always stood out for the team’s skill in preparing food “live”. Thanks to a specially conceived portable menu, dishes can be cooked directly on site. This technical approach allows us to prepare recipes to our usual standards, despite being away from our own premises. Our settings and mise en place (table linen, tableware, service), all of the highest quality, will make parties and weddings unforgettable.

INTERESTING FACTS A short distance from Bergamo – ten minutes by car – yet a world away from the frenzy and traffic of the city: Da Vittorio Relais & Chateaux stands in lush countryside that acts as the “lungs” of the city. The ten hectares of grounds include a tennis court, a five-a-side football pitch and two natural lakes, linked by a path ideal for a relaxing stroll. It is really an amazing place! Don’t miss to visit also Bergamo Alta (amazing) and The Caffè - Pasticceria Cavour 1880 in Bergamo Alta belongs to the Locali Storici d’Italia (Historical Places of Italy) chain. It is Viennese-style café with ancient frescoes and late 19th century friezes, its counter displaying delicacies in the grand tradition of the Master Patissiers of Da Vittorio. Each day they make croissants, biscuits and pastries for unforgettable breakfasts. Excellent patisserie, tens of different cakes and mignon pastries, spoon desserts, handmade ice-cream and Da Vittorio’s sweet and savoury specialties, perfect for treating oneself or others. At lunchtime, the café serves exquisite snacks and buffets, which can also be made to order for business lunches and stylish aperitifs. The famous Sunday brunch is not to be missed.

TASTE If you haven’t tried hot chocolate in Italy, try it! It’s really delicious. This is my recipe for an Italian Style Hot Chocolate. The process is pretty simple too so you should end up with steaming cups of hot chocolate in no time at all. Here’s how to do it.
Make Italian Style Thick and Creamy Hot Chocolate at Home Ingredients for Italian Style Hot Chocolate 2 tbls cocoa powder 1 – 2 tbls sugar 1 tbls corn flour 2.5 dl milk* *2.5 dl = 1/4 litre or (approx) 8fl oz – 1 US cup. Instructions Mix the cocoa, sugar and corn flour together very well. Pour in a little milk and mix well, before adding the remainder of the milk (little by little). Bring to the boil in a largish pan, stirring constantly until the mix reaches boiling point.Switch off the heat and continue stirring for about a minute. There you go. With a little luck, you should end up with a steaming hot cup of thick hot chocolate. Pop some whipped cream on top and the result should look something like this: Enjoy !
