Dear Friends, From this day forward, there will be two important measures of time. One will be Before Covid, the other will be After Covid. I remember all the wonderful times up to 2019 when we were happy, healthy and free. Now we live in a time of uncertainty, worry and fear. Will we ever know the pre-Covid times again? For the sake of our young people, I really hope so. Let’s do all we can to make each day a little bit better for those we come in contact with. This issue of BDW spotlights our Summer 2021 Pinnacle Book Achievement Award Winners, honoring many of our great members and their fine books. Reading is a great way to take our minds off our everyday problems and sit out in the sun while you enjoy a favorite book. See pages 22 to 24 for a list of the award winning books. Check out some of our wonderful entries and new authors today. Make a little time for reading each day. Our final trade show of this year will be Virtual just like all the others, the NAIBA-SIBA Assn. Show. A few associations are actually trying to do an in person show this Fall, but we feel attendance will be spotty at best. Over all, the Virtual shows have brought out more leads since people can take part in the show no matter where they are, and they can stay safe as well. John P. Geyman, MD, is one of the most published family physicians in the United States, having published more than 160 journal articles and 10 books, 5 since retiring as chair at the University of Washington Department of Family Medicine. He was graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, and began practice in Mt Shasta, a rural community in Northern California, after 2 years of general practice training in Santa Rosa, California. John has managed to squeeze, depending on how one counts, at least 5 careers and 8 airplanes into his life so far. His books on flying and his books on family medicine and the health care system in the United States all have some of the same literary style: a personal voice that does not overwhelm the facts and ideas that he is trying to convey.
He exercises a diligence in looking for information wherever and from whomever he can find it, and he analyzes and organizes that information in a way he thinks will be helpful to the reader. --------John Geyman, M.D. is professor emeritus of family medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, where he served as Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine from 1976 to 1990. As a family physician with 21 years in academic medicine, he has also practiced in rural communities for 13 years. He was the founding editor of The Journal of Family Practice (1973 to 1990) and the editor of The Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine from 1990 to 2003. Dr. Geyman served as president of Physicians for a National Health Program from 2005 to 2007 and is a member of the Institute of Medicine, now the National Academy of Medicine.

This Trade Show will be held online from Sept. 27th until Oct.1, 2021. Booths will remain online until the end of the year so your book will be available to buyers during the upcoming holiday season. People are reading more these days and they will be looking for books to give as gifts. Bookstores are reopening and will want to offer their customers new titles as well. Plus our booth will also be featured on our main web page for the rest of 2021 as well.
