Dear Friends, Charles Dickens begins “A Tale of Two Cities” with these famous words: “It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.” In speaking of today, I can add “It is the strangest of times.” The whole world is fighting for its survival against an unseen enemy. As we begin on this new path of living, let use give thanks for all our blessings, and help others who are less fortunate, doing what we can to make this new world a much better place for all of us. Rev. Peter Vu, author Of “Living For a Higher Purpose” and other Inspirational Books Rev. Peter G. Vu has been a Catholic priest of the Diocese of Grand Rapids, Michigan for twenty years and also a chaplain at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. He was born in Saigon City (currently Ho Chi Minh City), Viet Nam and was a young boy when the Viet Nam War ended. He witnessed the war with great horror and deep appreciation for peace. He grew up with the Communist government system and endured many hardships for more than a decade. What helped Rev. Vu and his countrymen tremendously during those dark days was their faith and prayers. His love for prayers and meditations blossomed. He also exchanged new ideas about prayers and mediations with his Buddhist friends. They got along quite well despite their different faith traditions. After high school, Rev. Vu escaped Viet Nam via boat and came to the United States to begin his seminary training. He attended one year of high school here in the US (Union High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan) to learn the language and new culture. He then attended Aquinas College
Rev. Peter Vu in Grand Rapids, Michigan for two years while staying at Christopher House Seminary. Then, the Seminary sent him to attend his last two years of college at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated with a double major: Mathematics and Philosophy. He then attended graduate school at the University of St. Mary of the Lake and Mundelein Seminary in Chicago, Illinois for five years. He graduated and was ordained with the Master Degree of Divinity and the Sacred Theology Baccalaureate. Rev. Vu has ministered to the People of God at six different churches over the last twenty years. Most of them have schools. He has worked extensively with children, especially at School Masses. He has led children in prayer and has seen first-hand their desperate need for it. He was also trained in Clinical Pastoral Care in a hospital and nursing home setting and practiced it at a General Hospital in Oxnard, California. In addition, Rev. Vu has been a chaplain at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans for almost ten years.
Rev. Vu has written a series of inspirational books including “Living For a Higher Purpose” which is both a history book and personal diary of his life in Vietnam. It discusses current topics such as war and its victims, refugees and their life challenges, life under a Communist regime, how the world views America, and much more. Dispelling the Myths of eBooks By Carolyn Cohn eBooks are becoming more and more popular. They are convenient, green, and have the same impact that paper books have as far as the content is concerned. Even so, many people don't understand their true value. Let's dispel the myths. Myths come about because of ignorance. Some of the more popular myths will be discussed here and hopefully, you will start to appreciate the value and usefulness of eBooks after the myths have been dispelled. There are not a lot of eBooks available online: There are over a million eBooks that are available without any cost at all. They are available through many websites, such as Feedbooks, Manybooks.net, Google Book Search and Internet Archive. There are also millions of other eBooks that are available for purchase on any topic that you can think of or want. You need a special electronic device to be able to read an eBook: This is totally false. You can read eBooks on your desktop or laptop computer and you can read them through the Internet or on a mobile device. In other words, you can read eBooks on any device that you have access to. Buying eBooks is not any greener than buying paper books: What a ridiculous concept. Of course eBooks are greener for the environment than paper books. eBooks don't fill up landfills, they save energy, costs for transportation, and reduce pollution that is connected
to driving and flying books throughout the United States and the rest of the world. With paper books, if there are copies that are not sold, they need to be stored somewhere or shredded. That is not the case with eBooks. So many trees are saved by not using paper.

Devote some time to finding the right cover artist for your book. If you do an internet search for "book cover design" you will get a host of websites and freelancers that offer professional cover design services. Spend some time looking at their galleries and any previous work they've published. After you've decided who you would like to work with, find their contact information from their website and ask about their availability. Avoid any "selfpublishing company" that offers cover design as part of a package. Many of those are based off predesigned templates. You're putting your heart and soul into this work. You and your book deserve better. If you want your book to be commercially viable, then your title has to be commercially viable. Being a self-publisher, you probably don't have the resources to do the market testing that large publishers do for their titles. Overlooking the Importance of Editing Poorly edited books not only negatively impact the individual author, but they affect the efforts of the self-publishing community as a whole. In fiction, when readers stumble over misspellings and awkward grammar, it interrupts the experience and jolts them out of their suspended disbelief. For non-fiction, a poorly edited book with numerous typos can cause the reader to question your credibility. It's almost impossible to edit your own work because of your familiarity with the subject matter. You need a qualified person who can find issues with story line, factual discrepancies, typos, grammar problems and other inconsistencies.
