Quote of the Month: “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something… If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” ~Barack Obama

Editor’s Note
Hello Friends!
DCON sign up has officially closed! Thank you to everyone who has signed up. It will definitely be a positive, memorable experience. Seniors, remember to fill out the application that’s pinned on our Facebook if you’re attending because there are so many scholarship opportunities meant to help you! Also, board positions will be opening up soon. We will release the date for interviews sometime in the next month and positions are planned to be decided before DCON. Yours in Service,
Chandler Yoon
SENIORS, if you want to
earn your stole for Key Club to wear at graduation, make sure you are getting your senior event done! This is required unless you are an officer who has been actively taking charge of events. To plan a senior event, talk to Ms. McMillan or directly to Chandler in order to receive more information and to make sure your event gets on the agenda. Thank y’all! Yours in Service

The KEY To Success By Eghosa Amadin11, Upperclassmen Rep As Key Clubbers, we all have one thing in common: we enjoy volunteering. There’s this feeling we all get when we see the impact our help has on other people. It feels so good to know that you’re helping someone out, changing their life for the better. Serving is a KEY aspect to becoming a better person. You learn to put others before yourself; you learn what it means to be selfless. In a world filled with violence and hatred, it’s imperative for us to understand the importance of serving others and to see the bigger picture, to forget about “me” and focusing on “we.” Serving others builds character. Learning to put others before ourselves helps us become better friends, neighbors, and leaders. My school’s key club regularly volunteers at Grace Care, a retirement home nearby, right after school of Fridays. We are usually there around “Happy Hour” which is a time designated for the patients to just have a good time and enjoy themselves. Sometimes other key clubbers who are members of our school’s orchestra or band bring their instruments and play live music. The patients really enjoy this part, especially when someone plays the piano. The first thing we do when we get to Grace Care is try to get as many patients as we can to come to the lobby for some snacks and some fun. Some patients are rather reluctant to leave their rooms while others couldn’t be happier to have people paying attention to them. After we get everyone who’s willing to come to happy hour to the lobby, we talk to anyone who’s up for some good ole conversation.
It’s crazy how willing all of the patients are to share their stories and perspectives on life. Helping others contains a plethora of knowledge that can’t be learned in a classroom. You’re able to learn from the real life situations you face; this is how you gain the best experience possible Volunteering at Grace Care is such an amazing way for us to give back to a part of the community that is sometimes neglected and overlooked. Volunteering is a great way to stay connected with your community. It allows you to play a role that improves other peoples’ lives. Although there is not really always a physical reward for helping others, there’s the reward of knowing that you made someone’s life even only a little bit easier.
