Hey guys and gals!

Editor’s Note

Hello Friends!

Thank you to everyone who has continually attended our virtual meetings and has kept up with our agendas! It is so great to see our members still involved and motivated to serve. Freshmen orientation is on August 11th. This is really important because it’s primetime to advertise what Key Club is and how we impact our home, school, and community. We would love if current members could help motivate freshmen to join us by attending our first meeting on August 31st, which is the second Wednesday. Yours in Service,

Kelly Duong

Wow, the 2016-2017 school year is quickly approaching! It’s amazing how fast time flies With the new school year comes new opportunities! Make sure you’re spreading the news about this amazing club to the incoming freshmen and anyone who is thinking about joining this year! We would love to expand our membership and encourage our student body to get involved in the community. See y’all soon! Yours in Service

Service Project(ions) By Flora Yiakras11, Assistant Secretary

With school around the corner, my fellow key club board and I have been beginning our research preparations to pick the perfect service project for this school year! During this time, we’ve also continued providing events for our members to participate in, because as you know all benefit the community in some way. The first service project we discovered would be us working in partnership with Undies for Everyone, an organization that collects and distributes underwear to students who aren’t as privileged to have this necessity. One could become more involved by making a monetary donation or holding a drive to collect new, in-the-package underwear. Our club plans on getting involved by volunteering our time to package the underwear that will further be given to these students in need. The name of this organization is intriguing in itself, so we anticipate that curious Key Clubbers will be more than happy to participate in this project. This past summer, I attended a leadership seminar- HOBY- where I found out about this group and participated in it first hand. While remaining efficient, I also was enjoying myself! WHO KNEW PACKING UNDERWEAR COULD BE SO FUN? I hope to share and give a similar experience to the members of Cypress Falls Key Club! The next service project that we were interested in was in cooperation with Project Linus. Their mission is to “Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer ’blanketeers’”. Our key club would become involved by making dozens of blankets and then depositing them at the “blanket drop-off sights” to further be distributed to these children. First, we could collect money to buy the material from Jo-Ann’s fabrics to make the blankets. Once enough money has been collected, board members will purchase the materials and then organize a day after school to construct these blankets. A quick demo would be demonstrated on the day of construction to show members how to make tie comforters out of the fleece material. This method is very easy for people of all skill levels, and doesn’t require a sewing machine. After a productive session of blanket-making, we would send them to the drop off locations mentioned above. Service projects are a KEY part to KEY club, and are rewarding to both the giver as well as the receiver. With these service projects, Cypress Falls Key Club will make a great positive impression to the community!
