Quote of the Month:
“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.
-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Thank you to everyone who remains active in our club over the summer! We still plan to post meeting videos in our Facebook page with likes counting as attendance, but we also are adding each agenda and meeting video to the website. If you know a member who doesn’t have a Facebook but watches the meeting videos, please e-mail an officer to let us know. In-school member meetings will start back up in September and return to the usual schedule. Make sure to stay updated because we’re planning fun events to welcome incoming freshmen and spread the word about this amazing club. Yours in Service,

My Terrific 3 By Moselle Rodriguez10, Secretary This past year has been somewhat of an experiment transitioning into high school, whether it was stepping into a complete new atmosphere or trying to make friends that could handle my awkwardness, EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE CHANGING. However, despite these changes, I decided to join a club my sister had raved about her entire senior year: Key Club. Although this club sounds like the ideal locksmith’s dream, let me just tell you, it’s far from it. This club gives you a reason to cancel those Friday night Netflix binging marathons. It gives you a reason to want to wake up at 5 am to volunteer. Key Club motivates you to want to become a better you. It’s hard to explain, it’s kind of like paying for something and receiving your change, but Key Club doesn’t only give you 10 cents in return, it gives you “the opportunity to provide service, build character, and develop leadership”, just as it says on its website. Nonetheless, despite what Key Club has given me to grow as a person, that’s only a small amount of why I enjoy being a part of it. Key Club has also given me these 3 terrific experiences I will never forget:
#1.
Grace Care
Grace Care is a retirement home filled with many wise individuals with millions of amazing and inspiring stories. Their stories range from serving as New York Police Officer to going on their very first date, nevertheless, you’re guaranteed to be inspired and left wanting more.
#2.
Holi Festival
The Holi Festival is a celebration of us uniting as one. It “turns enemies into friends” as it says on Holifestival.org. People at the Holi Festival will literally sprinkle color powder on complete strangers and then hug it out and become friends. The Holi Festival makes us forget our differences and realize that we’re all the same in a colorful and playful way.
#3.
Flag Fundraiser
The Flag Fundraiser was a way for our high school marching band to raise money for future shows and trips. Although this event seemed like something only the guys would be able to do, a fellow keyclubber, Ashley, and I combined our strength and picked up hammers. Even though we had no experience whatsoever using a hammer and a metal rod, we worked out a system and put over 60 flags up in a neighborhood. Not only was this one of the most memorable events I attended, it was also one of the most challenging. Overall, Key Club made my freshman year an unforgettable one and I am so excited to be serving as my schools Key Club secretary this upcoming year. I am positive that this year will bring many more experiences and memories to reflect upon and share with others
