Sunshine in the Dark Inspired by true events

The 21 year old dusky woman with large eyes Malati, standing at the bus stop clad in a loud neon orange Salwar kameez and dangling earrings, looks eye catching. But unlike the young girls of her age she is neither on her way to college nor is she heading to any function. She is just waiting up there for the signal to turn red so that she can knock on the windows of the cars which would queue up in a while. Yes, she is a trans-woman, often referred as ‘Hijda’ in our society. ‘My parents dumped me when they discovered I was not normal’ shares Malati in her village style Hindi dialect. Born to a lower middle class family of two older boys, Malati too was a boy at birth named ‘Malay’. ‘I didn’t understand why it was that way, but I never felt like a boy inside. I liked girls’ clothes, their accessories, and my friends too were mostly girls.

My siblings and friends used to tease me at first but slowly the teasing turned into mockery. Even then I couldn’t fathom what was wrong with me. My parents started to object to my every move, the way I talked, the way I walked, just everything. I remember being beaten up brutally by my father couple of times while he yelled what a shame I was to him. I was barely 7 to 8 years old then. But by the time I turned 12, things were clear. I was a girl trapped in a boy’s body. My family couldn’t take this embarrassment any further and decided to get rid of me for good. They gave me up to the ‘Dera’ (Hijda community) and never considered looking back.’ Hailing from the interiors of Uttar Pradesh, the state which on date has maximum enuch/ transgender population in India. Malati is just one among the many names and her journey has been equally arduous. She had to get her male organs removed and transition into a female in... FEBRUARY 2021 - 002

order to be accepted and live as a part of the Hijda community. Little did she know, being betrayed by own parents wasn’t just it, her real ordeal was yet to begin. She was ordered by the community ‘Guru’- the head, to start earning right away as the community was no charity organization. But how could she? She was just a child. She was told senior members would guide her. Few months passed, and Malati became a sex worker against her choice. If she dared to say ‘no’, seniors would punish her by inflicting injuries on her body. She has multiple scars on her hands and legs resulting out of cigarette burns. Getting a chance one day, Malati escaped from the community home not able to withstand the torture any longer. Later, she started to make her living by begging and the traditional way, by performing dances during the ‘badhai’ rituals a new born arriving in a household or a marriage function. She found herself another home, where she is not coerced for prostitution and members are kind and helpful. She considers them her family. Talking about her horrifying experiences, Malati continues- ‘I have become numb, I don’t get tears any more. I used to scream and cry earlier even when children in the neighborhood pulled my chunni, and called out to me with names like ‘Chhakka’. Over time I have accepted my fate and my identity. Am I to be blamed, that God made me this way? I’m also a God’s child like you, isn’t it?’ Malati clears her throat. ‘Is there anyone who sees the pain we go through, for no fault of ours?’

grounds to provide them with equal opportunities and access to resources in our socio-economic system. Malati’s eyes lit up, while talking about this. ‘We are thankful that Government is taking steps for our betterment. Though it’s not going to be easy and won’t happen soon. But we are certainly hopeful.’ Quality of life of transgender population won’t improve until society accepts them. The laws and rulings cannot make all the difference. It’s the people who need to behave more thoughtfully and with vulnerability. It’s not rare to find even educated people mistreating a transgender and using foul language. One can easily spot such sights in a train or at a traffic signal in any part of India. Our society has a long way to go in terms of atleast giving them the basic respect that any human being deserves. The common man of our country needs to understand and respect diversity. The taboo and stigma attached to transgender population needs to be shaken off as the first step. In Malati’s words- ‘Hope is life. Only because I was hopeful and resilient, I could survive in this not so kind world. I continue to pray and hope that one day people will accept us as fellow human beings. We wait to see the sunshine.’ Prerna Chatterjee

A landmark ruling was passed by Supreme court of India in April 2014, recognizing Transgender population as the ‘third gender’ legally. Our Government is constantly endeavoring to protect Transgender rights and interests and making...

Unsung Heroes – No Longer ! – 2 By Gaanappriya Mohan Yogesh

Singer Sharanya - A girl with big dreams and amazing talent. Grown up in a family of singers and musicians, Sharanya started to sing from early phases of her life. Knowing her talent and skills, she chose to be a singer after completing secondary education. In her singing career, Sharanya has been working with many famous music producers and composers like AR Rahman, Imman, Sharreth, Santhosh Narayanan, Nivas Prasanna, Madley Blues and Justin Prabhakar. Sharanya performed and showcased her voice in more than 200 stages and also shared live stages with Srinivas, Naresh Iyer, Vijayprakash, Stephen Devassy and Haricharan. Sharanya's voice was not limited to the record label and big production houses. She has been a part of various independent albums supporting and working for independent artists, creating awareness for many social causes. Sharanya is happily married to Narayanan Kumar and the couple live in Chennai.

Here is an exclusive Interview of Singer Sharanya Srinivas. FEBRUARY 2021 - 005

1. What is Music, according you? Music for me is something which is very pure and something which gives rise to lot of emotions inside you. So that’s what I think music is, probably for all of us. Instead of looking at the whole thing technically, I mean some people do look at it technically, but for me music is very emotional. Music has a very emotional connect with people. When you listen to different songs they give rise to a different emotion inside you. So that way music is that very emotion experience for me and I can’t describe that in words. 2. Who is your Musical influence? This is a very common question I come across. People expect me to tell only one reply for this question. (smiles), My Dad. And I do not deny. Of course he is my big support and biggest influence. But Musical Influence as such there are too many and I just cannot just pick one and say this is my musical influence because right from childhood I have been listening to different kinds of music so when my grandfather was alive he used to play a lot of Carnatic music at home so that subconsciously got into myself and I was able to appreciate and notice the nuances. Once my father started singing in films, I was able to appreciate light music and cine music. All these happened in my early childhood. So as I said in the beginning, I could not pick any single source of influence and inspiration. All these have been my influences and what I see or where I see myself in the art is. First and foremost I’m a music lover & so I appreciate music, I appreciate good music and more than a singer or a musician I want to be known as a music lover

3. How was your Music learning experience? Well, my dad says even now that had I realized my potential in my childhood days, I would have been even more into music. I was even given a key board to learn and all that. But then, you know, childhood days have its own distractions. When I decided to take up music seriously, I had a few gurus at my home, like my Aunty Smt Padma, my dad, and so on. I also took courses under the tutelage of Shri Henry Kuruvila. I joined Rahman sir’s KM Music conservatory to hone my singing skills. But to be frank, every single stage, and every single song that I perform is a learning experience for me. With time, I get to learn and perform even better than the before. Because, I don’t think learning is a one-time process. I believe it is a continuous process in life.

FEBRUARY 2021 - 006

4. What was your first song? How did your career take off ? I was ten when I recorded the first song for Rahman sir, for the movie Tenali. “Aalankatti Mazhai” song. Since I was so young to have any inhibitions, I just went to the studio, sang and came back. Even now when I think of that experience, I feel joyful and excited. Then, I debuted my voice with the song Adi Thaahira with SathyaPrakash. Slowly, I started getting chances to sing for films. That’s when I got my first break through in an independent album “Konjam Koffee Konjam Kaadhal” by Phani Kalyan. I sang in my father’s music for the movie Kangaroo & Train, Rahman sir’s music for the movie Ambikapathy, and so on. When every song is so special to me, I would like to specially mention “Mersal Arasan” Song for the movie Mersal in Rahman Sir’s movie. The song was launched during my wedding. Thillana with Mahesh Raghavan was a thrilling experience. And I still remember being so excited about every song while seeing the first output. Doopadoo’s “Kozhai”, Phani Kalyan’s Neeye also needs a special mention in my career.

5. How do you handle criticisms, if any that you have received as a musician and performing artist? Criticisms are part and parcel of our lives. But to handle these criticisms in the right way, I think one needs to be strong and matured . In my initial days I used to get flustered as a very young artist. It was hard . I was hard on myself too. But as I grew up, I had developed a confidence to handle criticisms. But it's also got to do with the fact that over the years there has been a lot of learning. Not just with respect to criticism but a lot of things like introspecting constantly about what one is doing. I keep introspecting on how I can do better, how I can be more creative, what are the areas that need improvements and so on. Personally, I am my harshest critic. Having said that when i come across a constructive criticism I take it positively, no matter who says. But we live in an era where there are also these trollers with trolls as we call, who probably don't have anything else to do but Would just sit behind a computer and pass nasty comments to everybody. As much as I was affected and annoyed those days, with age comes maturity to ignore such negative elements in the society. And I am now really good at it ! 6. How was the whole COVID scenarios with lock downs, for you? How did you manage to handle this unexpected global pandemic, as an artist? Just like every one of you, I was also thinking that Covid will be around for a month or so and we would be Resumè to routine. So initially my thought was also like 'this will probably pass during that duration of time and things will be ok after that'. When things did not resume to normal, I realized that there are a...

bunch of performers and musicians whose existence was getting difficult and struggling . These artists and musicians were relying upon “Live concerts” and shows. I felt it was very harsh for them to face while some of us had a home studio and still performed from home, these people were out there struggling . So my dad Srinivas started the United singers charitable trust for all struggling singers so that they can get on with their lives till the pandemic is over. After the pandemic is over shows are going to be pouring in but right now what will they do? How are they going to feed their families? So USCT was started with an intention to support the struggling musicians. Thanks to all our kind hearted fans that we collected a substantial amount of money and these proceedings are going for the musicians in the state of TamilNadu. But personally if you ask me how I managed the covid situation it's been so difficult. I had a small studio set up at home and I had quite a great amount of time to introspect and plan on what I should be working on. Eventually I was able to collaborate with a bunch of talented artists. Lemme name a few : Sindu Rajaram from the California, USA and I did a song together, Gurupriya from Banglore was also some whom I worked with. Pandemic made us think globally and also technically that artists from various parts of the world came together for one performance . This made us realize that the world is actually a very small place and all this is definitely possible. And I also got to indulge in a lot of music production and all that. Thankfully for us some e-concerts were also happening. We kind of managed the situation quite decently is what I would say. Having said all this I'm again stressing on the point About struggling musicians because there are so many of them who are still relying on live shows. There are so many of them who don't even have access to...

studios or anything like that. They literally had put their lives in danger to go record because the covid situation was so bad at one point that there a so many people who took all these risks. That's why the United Singers Charitable trust is for : to support the livelihood for all these struggling musicians till they get back on their feet.

7. How do you define success? If you had asked me this question, a few years back, I would have probably given you a different answer out of ignorance. But now my answer is based on the experiences that I have gathered. Success is a subjective word and its definition can vary from person to person. For me, success is not about short term goals at all. For example- I have achieved this today so I’m successful. That’s not what I consider as success. I used to think the same way before, but not any more. Finding pleasure in the smallest of things, is real success. When you live your life every moment, that is success. To be called successful, one also needs to strike the right balance in life. Now I’m probably getting philosophical, and I really don’t want to bore you guys with that! FEBRUARY 2021 - 008

Recently I watched this movie called ‘Soul’ and I could connect to it very well, as it spoke about similar things. Our wants and desires never end. Therefore the foremost step to success, is to feel happy with whatever you have. An all round success is then, when you have achieved the right balance , regards to personal or professional life. Simplest pleasures of life give you happiness and that is what is meant by actual success. Being able to spend time with family or going for a pleasure trip, can give you happiness and that is what is real success!

Feminist thoughts are growing nowadays but we still have a long way to go. We try to educate people but they don’t really seem to understand the true essence or need of Women empowerment. So we must continue to educate as many people as possible on this subject and stop forcing our views on Women. Let them live their life the way they want. Thank you, Sharanya for such an interesting insight on valuable topics like music and success. We wish you the very best in life as you deserve only the best . 8. What is your message on Women Empowerment? I can say from my experience and also by putting myself in a woman’s shoe, that Woman feels empowered when she has full freedom and control over whatever she chooses to become or do in her life. That’s Women empowerment. Trying to impose your opinion or trying to change her, is robbing her off her independence. I know a lot of women who have struggled so much to get where they are today. And their struggle is much more than men because of our socioeconomic system.

Gaanappriya Mohan Yogesh Bio scientist/Poetess / Bilingual Writer

Hats off to these women who have achieved so much despite living in a patriarchal society. FEBRUARY 2021 - 009

The Man In The Mirror... One day I asked the richest man in our town, "You are so successful, Everyone gives your example, You started from shambles, Today you are on the top, You are succeeding day and night, And I know you are not going to stop. What so ever you touch, Turns into gold, I want to be like you, I too wish to be on the top. I will do whatsoever you say, I am ready to work for the whole day. Often whom I call for help, Leaves me in the middle of the storm, In life I have seen, In tough time Even your best friend leaves you in between. Tell me how can I get true guide or friend, Who stands by me till the end. " That fellow smiled and moving his hand on my head replied,

"If you want to be the richest man in the town, Work day and night, To get the crown, The only person who can help you is always with you, He is always very near, If you really want to see, Go and see the mirror. The man in the mirror is your true friend, When everyone will leave you in hot water, He will stand by you till the end. Faith in oneself is real key to success, Those who wait for others, Never touch success. It's your life, Set your own rules, Anybody who respects the person in the mirror, His success is sure, One day he will certainly get the crown, And He will definitely be the richest person in the town. Hope is Everything When there is no way to find, I hope for future in my mindNothing is wrong in life’s way, Live with hope for another day; Without it, human race is lost, The time-piece moves very fast: What should I need to think? Hope earns its level in a wink… The sky spits gloom to the Earth, Sun is the hope for all our mirth: Whenever you get a nightmare, Gain optimistic attitude to share;

Hope is the soul of humanityThat pushes us to the eternity; Hoping for success is a pain, To achieve the Heaven’s rain; Educate everyone to be the best, Having hope in heart is God’s test; Inject positivity to bone marrow, Spread your thoughts that narrow; True to yourself for being a hero, Attain hope even you are a zero; It builds you to the highest rank, And fills your money in the bank. Half a Cup of Tea

"Mom, for how many years will you have only half a cup of tea?" I smiled at Vaibhavi while setting the small mug on her out stretched tray. Patting her cheeks, I wagged the envelope at her which I had been clutching in my hands, ever since the news came in. I had read it at least twenty times by now. Today my happiness touched the roof and in the same excitement I squeaked, "You know Vaibhavi, now I'll have a full cup only with him." She laughed and spinning me around, pulled me in a big bear hug. Bantering she said, "Oh ho mom! So my bride is eagerly waiting for her groom huh! Finally the windows of desires have flung open." I shied away from my own daughter.

She's fifteen now and we are more of best friends. In the last ten years without Viraj, we've literally grown up together. The passion to earn more and give a better life to his family, took my husband, Viraj, to a foreign land. But without proper legitimate documents and for violating legal emigration policies, he was detained in their country for nearly ten years. Five years after marriage and with a four years old Vaibhavi, Viraj left us. None of us knew then that we'll have to live a decade without each other and struggle through the thick and thin of life separately, oceans apart. First time when the phone call came with this bad news, I was sipping my evening tea. I can never forget my feelings of that time, bitter tears, a constricted heart and screamed out hoarse voice. Without Viraj, life has been nothing less that a dreary whirlpool. In the last ten years, every effort to bring him back went in vain. Savings dried up long time ago and after that it's been a survival spree. My job, relatives, friends and neighbours saw us through this storm. Eventually with the blessings of the almighty Lord, finally the authorities showed mercy and Viraj, ... FEBRUARY 2021 - 012

my husband, my daughter's father, is coming back home. "Mom, aren't you scared?" Her question confused me. "Scared of what Vaibhavi?" "Ten years is a big time. What if he's a changed man? What if he doesn't gel with us or doesn't like us anymore?" I smiled and made her sit. "Vaibhavi, he's your father, my husband. He's missed us as much as we've been craving for him. It might take some time to adjust, but at the end we are family."

I was right. He embraced both of us together and wept like a baby. He kissed Vaibhavi ample number of times and said in between tears. "I'm so sorry my gudia. I wanted to be there to see you grow up. But now I'm not gonna go anywhere. You are my world." Vaibhavi hugged her father and all her apprehensions simple flew away. That evening and every evening after that, over full cups of tea, we exchange long stories, filling the gap of our lives to come back on the same track. After all there is a decade to cover up for, you see!!

Badminton Match

FEBRUARY 2021 - 013

"Amrita, think twice before refusing. It's a golden opportunity." "I know Ma'am." "Stop calling me Ma'am! You know I don't like it." "Okay Mansi, yes it's a wonderful chance." "And yet you don't want to grab it? I wanted you to go on this trip with me. This project will take you leaps ahead of others. Don't you realise that?" For the fifth time they were having this discussion ever since the assignment had come in. Mansi was her senior and both friends worked in an ad agency. Amrita kept quiet, when her boss was tired of convincing her, she slowly opened her mouth to voice out her reasons. "Mansi you're aware I'm not someone to shy away from work. If my daughter's badminton finals wasn't during the same time, I would have surely come with you to Australia." Mansi was seething with rage and passed a sarcastic remark, "This is not the first and the last finals of her life." Amrita gave back "And this is not the last project for our company." "Amrita you're unnecessarily making a big deal about this badminton match of your daughter. As if you are sure that she will win." This comment irritated Amrita, nonetheless she kept her anger in check and said firmly, "That's not the point. Whether she wins or loses, I want to be there by her side. I don't want to miss out on the important events in her growing up years. Please try to understand." Six hours later, at home....... "How did she take it?" Anurag was on the bed with his legs stretched out. He was eyeing Amrita keenly as she applied...

lotion on her arms. He was eager to know since he came home, but they followed certain rules and didn't discuss such things in front of their daughter Arundhati. Amrita smirked at her husband from the mirror, turned around and huffed. "Not very kindly of course." She came and sat beside him and he had more to say, "But Amrita, she knew about your decision all along, didn't she?" "Yes. But today it was like a final no. So obviously I killed her previous hopes and she was angry." Anurag took his wife's hand in his and said, "I understand this project is important. I'd hate to see you spoil your tuning with Mansi. She's not only your friend but your boss as well. I'm there for Arundhati. If you still want to take up this assignment, it's fine by me." Amrita smiled and shook her head. "No Anu, I've made my decision. This is what I want. I wish to be there for our daughter, see her playing. Sitting in the audience, I want to cheer her, scream her name and enjoy the memorable moments." Anurag pulled her in his arms. "You're a wonderful mother and I'm so proud of you." "I'm only trying. I wish to inculcate the best values in Arundhati. But all cannot be lectured about. Some need to be experienced first handed." Anurag grinned and embraced her again. Standing outside their closed bedroom door, Arundhati wiped her tears and was filled with renewed love and respect for her parents. Shamim Merchant, Mumbai.

2) Pause and reflect When you feel yourself getting caught up with the rollercoaster of life it is easy to feel like things are spinning out of control. In these moments, just pause for a minute, take a breath and reflect on what your next steps will be. This sometimes is the best action you can take to find that spirit of hope again.

H O P E Hold on pain ends

We all go through times when we see the world through cloudy-colored glasses. Times when it’s tempting to just climb into bed and hide out, maybe for up to a month. There are plethora of ways to cut through the fog and to be hopeful. For me hope is “being able to see that there is a light despite all the darkness.” Finding hope when it seems like there’s none to be found can be hard, but it is possible. How to Stay Hopeful? 1) Talk to hopeful people Most of us know at least one person who can persistently see the bright side of life. And it is also true to say we know some people who leave us feeling drained too! Making a phone call to someone you care about might just be the thing you need to bring a dose of much needed encouragement and positivity. In my case, it always works!

3) Limit your Bad News intake Every day is full of both good and bad reports. Be careful not to excessively watch, listen to or engage with media that makes you feel hopeless. Create a challenge today to deliberately look for hope in the news and see what difference it makes. 4) Add some wow to your world Engage yourself in your favorite activities that makes you cheerful. It might be baking a cake, painting a beautiful scenic view or even watching your favorite movie. Start innovating the things and add spark to your life. 5) Meditation I personally feel meditating daily leads to a positive and healthy mind. Do not loose your hope! whenever you feel blue, invest your time in meditation. Trust me, you will feel positive. 6)Remember what you are thankful for No matter how hard things get there is always something to be grateful for. It is possible to catch a glimmer of hope from unexpected places. What can you see around you that you are thankful for? Who are you most appreciative to have in your life? Practicing gratitude makes you better equipped to handle what comes your way with a hopeful spirit. At last, i would mention a saying by Desmond Tutu " Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness. "

Looking after my health today gives me a better hope for tomorrow . H-High fibre foods. Fibre plays more of a mechanical role. Even though it doesn’t have any nutritive value, it still plays a major role in boosting our health by regulating sugar and lipid levels.Increasing the satiety value of a meal,Making bowel movements easy,Boosting gut microbiome.Fibre is of two types.Soluble and insoluble. Soluble fibre easily dissolves in water and gets broken down into a gel-like substance whereas insoluble fibre doesn’t dissolve or get digested in the gut. -Soluble fibre: Flaxseeds, apple, sabja ,chia seeds, strawberries, onions, psyllium husk, the gel in lady’s finger. -Insoluble: Green leafy vegetables, whole grains, carrots, celery, outer covering and seeds of lady’s finger. So yes, modern diets are fibre-deprived. One has to make a conscious effort to eat a balanced meal comprising nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lentils and legumes to be able to meet daily fibre quota.

Arunima Sinha – A guiding lamp of hope In 2011, twenty four year old Arunima Sinha was thrown off a moving train by thugs for refusing to hand over the gold chain she was wearing. She lost her left leg when a train went over it. While dealing with pitying murmurs of, “Who will marry you now,” and the absurd conspiracy theories that followed, she made a decision. She would climb Mount Everest. In 2013 she did just that, becoming the world’s first female amputee, and the first Indian amputee, to achieve this feat. This Mayof 2021 marks the 8th anniversary of her reaching Everest’s summit. In honour of this phenomenal accomplishment, Arunima Sinha recalls about how that ill-fated train trip, the hell that followed, why she decided to climb Everest and how it is in the worst tragedies that the human spirit learns to soar. Arunima Sinha, the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom (UK)..

Arunima is the founder of Arunima Foundation, which works to empower women, disabled people and improve health, social and economic situation for poorer communities. Arunima, who is a former Indian national volleyball player, had her left leg amputated below the knee after she was thrown out of a train while resisting a robbery. While in hospital, she made up her mind to climb Mount Everest She trained with Bachendri Pal, who is the first Indian women to climb the world’s highest peak. Arunima reached the top of Everest in May 2013, becoming the first female amputee as well as the first Indian amputee to do so. She has also climbed the tallest mountains in Africa, Europe, Australia and South America. In 2015, she was given the Padma Shri. She hoped the honour would motivate others to work towards their goals.

The recognition is not just for her inspiring achievements in mountaineering, but also her charitable work. FEBRUARY 2021 - 018

“I am very happy and grateful to receive this honorary degree from the University of Strathclyde. This award delivers a good message to the youth of India and the world over that if you strive to reach your goals in life your achievements will be recognised.” – Arunima Sinha, Amputee mountaineer Speaking at the function, Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, called Sinha “an inspiration to amputees around the world.” He also said, “Not only has she

shown real spirit, courage and determination in overcoming adversity, she is using her compassion and positivity to help other people.” The news has been greeted with warm and enthusiastic responses from social media. Alok Dwivedi tweeted, “The whole country is proud of you. You keep on growing continuously. You are an inspiration for youth like us.” Suneel Singh Baghel said, “I consider Arunima Sinha my teacher & same is my god for me too!” Sources – Yourstory, arunimasinha.com, newzhooks

difficulty of today will soon end. Hope keeps us stay positive. As you know, our mind has lots of effects on our actions. If your mind tells you to stay strong on a path and not to lose courage, you will do so. So, hope gives a positive mind power. It generates an aura around you which protects you from the negatives. This is why; hope will always be the essence of life.

ABHIMANYU IELTS Trainer Western Overseas Study Abroad Pvt. Ltd., Kurukshetra

H O P E Hope is the essence of life. Many of us could not even live a life of peace without having hope deep inside the heart. Life is unpredictable, hard and quite notorious at times. Things go out of hand and beyond of our control many times. Hope helps us keep the fight on and improves the chances of making our life better. Hope – the essence of life keeps our eyes wide open for an improved future. I know it’s very hard keeping up with the inner faith during the most critical times, but, those who never leave hope, actually make it till the end. No doubt life is a solid war zone. But it’s not too bad either. Try to keep your eyes full of dreams. Hope not only gives you the strength to overcome a pain, but it also makes the journey for the future easier. Let’s not worry about the fact that today is bad. Hope keeps us telling that tomorrow will be better than this. Hope is optimism. When I’m hopeful for anything, I’m thinking that sorrow and ...

Hope helps us to ignore the sufferings of the present. When we stay positive about our future, and feel that we have to fight to win the problems, our probability to succeed increases. It happens because we fight trying to stay mentally strong and give our best efforts. Hope is a belief. You believe something good will happen. The intensity of this feeling can really change your present and future. It’s said hope, which is also your belief, is a deep sense hidden in our subconscious mind. Remember that our subconscious mind is the most powerful thing on this earth. With its help, you can make an impossible possible, or win a war, for example. A true hope or belief is unbreakable. There are many theories regarding the pure definition of hope. But you don’t have to confuse yourself with so many opinions. Just ask yourself – what you belief. If you believe to have something good in the future, and expect it to happen, that is hope. When you keep yourself telling that there will be no more pain and sufferings soon, you hope for it. It’s an inspiration to live life the best way we can. So make your hope strong. Hope will give you the courage and inspiration to stick to your dream as long as you breathe. If you have a strong aspiration, hope and faith, nothing can bring you down. It lets you aim at the sole purpose of your life. Abhimanyu

A review.

‘Leaves of life’ by D. Brinda ‘Leaves of life’ a book of 100 selected scintillating poems by D. Brinda. It was published by Wordsbrew. Foreword is scripted by Dr. Randhir, Mr. M. Selvaraj, and Dr. Mahadevan . It is a perfect book to read and feel. I took a little more time to finish , it means to digest the full book of poems. poems are not stories. One poem is different from other. In my view I take enough time to understand the poem, enjoy the literal beauties inside and then feel the pleasure of the inner thought. So it is not an easy task just to read and review poems in a few days.Brinda is the admin of our WhatsApp group Creative writers group and she encourages the budding poets to write more poems. I have already read her poems and anthologies. But this collection is totally different. She has depicted different feeling in different phases well. Starting from Tropical summer all the poems chills our heart. For example in her fourth poem 'The day when I disclose my past’ “Gone are those days with disrupted sleep, Feeling irksome and pain in heart" They are really touching as well as shows a detailed expression about the past. In the15th poem the simple treasures of life "For some person it may seems simple, but they are treasures like dimple" Simple family life happiness expressed well. In another poem her verses too felt sad about her mom. Taking break in between the hard day work gives the energy to carry back shows the attitude she follows to shine in between her tight schedule.

The poem Crystal clear shows her responsibility as a citizen. Are you happy inside and leave me alone are written well? She has Expressed the feelings in depth. Every poem has to be personally reviewed in detail. But shortage of time I selected few and give it to you in brief. I enjoy all the verses. Expecting more scintillating thoughts from Brinda Best wishes mam. Reviewed by

HOPE

Debts of Life Slow running life, many debts are yet to be paid, Some pain has to be erased, some duty is yet to be fulfilled; Some are displeased with your walk in speed, some are lost; Roths are still to be wowed, weeping is still to be done; Some incidents are still incomplete, some work is more important; In the heart of dreams that have suffocated, they are yet to be buried; Some relationships broke up, some twins got lost; The wounds of those broken and untouched relationships remain to be eradicated; You will come forward .. will you leave me and live? These breaths have the right, which remains to be explained to them; Life is slow, many debts are yet to be paid.

COURAGE Courage, can’t be bought Or taken, It’s always , inside us. We just have to embrace it. To be courageous is to stand tall, For what you believe. It means to confessing, When you feel like you’ve done something wrong. Imagine how our world would be. If we all had the courage to do what we love. Then there would be no sad eyes behind happy faces. Courage isn’t something you show off. It’s part of us. It’s the most important virtues of am individual. So, have courage to stand out, to support, to feel free, to be kind, to help, and to be true you. And at last, I realized that, To be more alive, I have to be less afraid, So, I did. I lost my fear and gained my whole life. Which is worthy. FEBRUARY 2021 - 026

Mrs Neelam Sharma

My Mom “Corona warrior @ 60” "Hope" is an ointment that heals the biggest wound of the life because it has an aroma of positivity. It’s the origin of all possibilities as well. There is only hope in the kind of situations that we have been facing in the recent past, which indicates that everything is going to be better towards a better tomorrow. Like others, I started the new year 2021 with great enthusiasm. It seemed as if the epidemic that had plagued the whole world would also end with the bygone year. But that was my misconception. At the beginning of the new year I came to know that my mother tested Corona positive. This news came as a shock to the whole family as my mother is 60 + and she is already having comorbidity issues. I think mother is a person in this world who never shows her pain. One who, despite being ill, considers looking after her family first, to be her religion. My mother is also like this. She was willing to take all the precautions under the epidemic, but the idea of how she would spend...

14-days quarantine period was distracting her. She never took such a long rest in her whole life and even worked during her sickness. We tried to convince her that God has given you this opportunity to take a break from your day to day routine chores and have some rest. But, even in this situation, she took complete care of the family with great patience while following all the necessary Covid protocols during her quarantine at home. She even took care of her daughter-in-law and her grandson, who came to this world a day before when she tested corona positive. Often, despite her poor health she always used to say ''I am absolutely fine''. We can say it’s a great virtue of a true mother. Her positive and optimistic outlook helped her to overcome the fear of Corona and she became victorious over this terrible disease, inspite of her poor health. After this incident, I realized the importance of positive thinking and optimistic outlook in life. Although my mother has taught me many life lessons, but after learning these two ideologies truly, I feel a new energy into me. Today I am proud to say that my mother is a Corona warrior.
