The Swakopmund community is still reeling after 46-year old Mr Gerson Kahorere shot and killed his 43-year old wife, subsequently turning the gun on himself, on Thursday night. The incident took place between 12:00 and 01:00, in the town’s Mondesa suburb, Tulinawa. According to a reliable source the husband first severely assaulted his wife, Mrs Issabella Tjizu Ka-
horere and also stabbed her with a sharp object. The source further revealed that he then cut open her genitals, before shooting her in the head. It is also alleged that the victim had another gunshot
wound in her leg. The man then turned the gun on himself in a suicide attempt and shot himself once in the head. After arriving on the crime scene, the Eagle Christian Ambulance Service personnel
tried to stabilise the man and rushed him to hospital. He did not recover and died in hospital at around 03:00, Friday morning. According to close family friends, the husband arrived home from his farm

last week, and had a quarrel with his wife. The two allegedly had problems in their relationship, with Mr Kahorere said to be “insecure” and “abusive” even before they got married, two years ago. The cou-
ple apparently raised children of relatives as their own, as well as the husband’s daughter, who is in her 20’s and residing in a shack in front of the house (pictured). Nobody really know what exactly hapContinues on page 2

The hearts of the Mondesa community members were torn apart yesterday morning as they were witnessing their shacks and those of their neighbours burning to ashes. The fire started at 07:00 yesterday morning, close to the Mondesa Clinic in the Tulinawa settlement.
The Fire Brigade arrived just in time to contain the fire, before it could spread and cause even
more damage and sorrow. Nine shacks were destroyed by the fire and
the cause of the fire remains unknown. Nobody was injured. When the namib times
called the assistance centre the personnel said they were on their way to assess the situation on
the ground and see what they could do to help the victims. Usually victims find

Gruesome murder pened between the two on that tragic night, but it is assumed that the quarrel started after Kahorere had accused his wife of adultery. A reliable source told the newspaper that Mr Kahorere wrote a letter and gave it to his daughter, prior to the incident. He allegedly told her not to open it and that

she should give it to the police, should they question her. The daughter apparently heard the gunshots and went to investigate. Her father supposedly opened the front door, informing her that the corpse of her stepmother, who was also her aunt, was in the bedroom. She apparently found
the murder victim’s lifeless body next to the bed. After the incident, Mr Kahorere apparently went to his wife’s best friend’s house, accusing her of “giving boyfriends to his wife”. He allegedly threatened to shoot her, too, but she managed to escape and locked herself in another room.

He then went back to his house and shot himself. The house where the brutal killing and suicide was committed is under lock and key and nobody is allowed to go near, as police investigations are still ongoing. The police was not available for comment yesterday.

lodging and shelter with family or friends, but the Fire Brigade informed the newspaper when we inquired about the developments, that some of
the victims had already started rebuilding their dwellings. Shack fires remain a major concern countrywide, with community mem-
bers blaming the backlog in housing and unaffordability of property for their predicament.

Bright Furture beckons for Angola after 39 years Suspended Omaruru of Independence councillors to protest Maria Davel-Wallis
Feliciana Dos Santos was 10 years old when her father died at the hands of the old regime – he was one of many intellectual leaders to lose their lives in the decade-long National Liberation struggle of the Angolan people, which started on 4 February 1961. Now, the Angolan Press Attaché in Windhoek, and her charming PR, 28 year old born-free compatriot, Darcio Lucas, visited the offices of the namib times to personally invite us to join in the weekend’s celebrations, with the message that the tide in this war-torn country has indeed changed, and that Angola’s future was bright, despite many challenges that remained. Erongo has been chosen as the Namibian region for the Independence Day celebrations this year, and the Angolan
community in Erongo was part and parcel of the festivities. The pride of the Angolan people, of what had been achieved in their country, since 11 November 1975, was palpable. The Angolan Ambassador’s message, conveyed by the Minister Counsellor, Guido Castelbranco, was one of pride and hope. “Angola celebrates the 39th Anniversary of the Proclamation of its National Independence in a very particular moment in which peace is being consolidated
each day, thanks to the spirit of tolerance understanding reconciliation and forgiveness of all Angolans, who forever turned the page of war and walk decisively toards a higher level of well-being and social progress.” He said economic growth was the biggest challenge of the future. He focussed on several agreements between Angola and Departments of its deeply-appreciated neighbour and ally, Namibia, including one between the countries’ central banks.
Guido Castelbranco, Minister Councellor at the Angolan Embassy
The programme at the Walvis Bay Civic Centre was a showcase of the re-building process underway in Angola. Dos Santos and Lucas say they believe in the future of the re-born Angola – and they truly feel that peace now encapsulates this vast land of opportunity. When Feliciano bode us farewell at the end of our evening, her eyes were sparkling, and her body moved to the traditional music – the rythms of joy and freedom brought by the cultural groups.
A protest by suspended local authority councillors and their supporters is expected to take place at Omaruru tomorrow. One of the suspended councillors leading the preparations for the protest, Albertus !Naruseb told Nampa on Monday that more than 300 people from his party, the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), will form part of the demonstration. In total, about 500 people are expected to take part in the demonstration. All seven councillors were suspended without pay by the Minister of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development Charles Namoloh on 16 December 2013 after they allegedly failed to implement recommendations from his office. !Naruseb called for more concerned community members to join the protest, which is aimed at demanding the immediate reinstatement of the suspended Omaruru town councillors. Reacting to allegations going around Omaruru that the planned mass-protest might become violent, !Naruseb ruled out any possibility of violence during the march. “It will be a peaceful demonstration as the police will be present to
lead us in the march. We only want to demand answers from Government on our suspension,” !Naruseb said. He also confirmed on Monday that he is organising the peaceful demonstration with the help of other local opposition party leaders from the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) and United Democratic Front (UDF). The march to the Omaruru Municipality head office in town will start at the Ozondje taxi rank. !Naruseb said he will read out a petition at the municipality, and the group will then camp on the premises of the municipality until they get a satisfactory answer about their re-instatement from the relevant authorities. The Omaruru Town Council was managed by seven local authority councillors, majority of whom are from the opposition parties. Vincent Kahua of Nudo was town mayor, while !Naruseb from the RDP was his deputy. Christiaan Nanuseb from UDF was chairperson of the management committee, deputised by the late Kretensia Garises of the RDP.
Swapo-Party representatives Johannes Hamutenya, Hendrina Gebhardt and Phillip Nghipandulwa were all ordinary councillors. On his part, !Nanuseb of the UDF told this news agency last week that more than 100 people from his party will form part of the planned peaceful demonstration. “We are not instigating any violence. Our members want to see justice. My people want to see me reinstated or replaced with another UDF member on the council seat, if I am found guilty,” he said. !Nanuseb stressed that Government must pronounce itself on the suspension issue. The Erongo Regional Council (ERC)’s retired Chief Regional Officer, Linus //Garoëb was appointed by Namoloh to manage all affairs of the Omaruru Municipality during the council’s suspension last year on his behalf. //Garoeb told Nampa when contacted for comment last Thursday that it is everyone’s democratic right to stage a peaceful demonstration, as long as proper procedures are followed. When Dr Richard Nchabi Kamwi, Minister of Health and Social Services launched the campaign, he called upon the parents – mothers, fathers, guardians and caregivers to bring the children and to mobilise the women to health facilities throughout the country to receive the immunisations. “Remember to bring along the health cards for registration of the services provided to the children and women. I wish to inform you that Namibia is still experiencing measles outbreaks and this is a clear indication that not all our children are fully immunised. Therefore, I call upon all citizens to make use of the services available because controlling disease outbreaks is a very expensive exercise.” Gendev says it will actively participate in this week by donating employees for assistance at Shoprite, Pick ‘n Pay, Kuisebmond Health Centre and the Community hall each afternoon from 14:00 to 17:00. The group intends to supply food and beverages for all nurses and volunteers at mobile units and venues. The purpose for this week is to strengthen immunisation services and educate the importance thereof and to increase community awareness. The campaign, which ends on Friday, will provide immunisation and other healthcare services to women and children in all districts of Namibia. Immunisation, Vitamin A supplementation, the distribution of oral rehydration salts (ORS) and other crucial health services will be provided for free to children and pregnant woman. Parents, caregivers and family members can take their children to any public health centre or clinic which is located nearest to their place of residence to access the services, and they must bring along the child's health passport. There will be approximately 5 people at every fixed point which include 2 nurses and 3 volunteers. Swakopmund ready for Festive Season Marshallino Beukes The Municipality of Swakopmund has indicated that the the town is more than ready for the expected influx of visitors during the coming December holidays.
Nicely trimmed palm trees in the central business area
“Streets are being cleaned and road markings painted. Road kerbing and demarcation are ongoing. Parks and gardens are cleaned and cut, palms and shrubs are trimmed and public areas and beaches are kept clean to the best of our abilities,” was the response of the holiday town's municipality, after the newspaper enquired on their readiness for the Festive Season. The current bookings at the municipal bungalows have an occupancy rate of 65.82 percent, as from 1 December, while from 20 December to 5 January 2015 it is 84.15 percent. Erongo Red is responsible for the town's decorations
and this year it promises to be some-thing spectacular, with Christmas lights said to sparkle all over town, contributing vastly to the Christmas spirit. On the safety issue, the Municipality noted that police presence will be increased, as it is customary during the festive season. Normal safety precautions against ATM fraud and theft from motor vehicles will be observed. The Municipality's annual Christmas Fair will be conducted from 12 -14 December, with the private sector, hosting Circus performances, Choirs, music festivals and numerous sports events.

Africa Road Safety Day Sharlien Tjambari
The Erongo Regional Road Safety Forum (ERRSF) commemorated the Africa Road Safety Day on Friday morning, but the march that had been scheduled did not take place as the general public did not show up. The members of the Swakopmund Fire Brigade, ERRSF members, Motor Vehicle Accident Fund members and members of the National Road Safety Council had an informal event because the invited guests, who
were suppose to present speeches, didn’t show up. During this event, the owner and Director of Karakulia Weavers, Mr Moses Helao donated 23 cases of water worth N$1 000 to the Namibian Police, to
help those who stand at the road blocks in the sun and to thank them for their hard work and dedication towards the community. Mr Lukas Steven of NNL Steven Trading also donated 10 cases of cooldrinks to the
value of N$1 189.90 to the Namibian Police. Later during the day, school children and the community members did join the campaign. The theme of the campaign this year was “I pledge to arrive alive”.
‘Road of death’ claims another life Another fatal car accident occurred during the early hours of Saturday morning on the B2 road between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund in the vicinity of Langstrand. Nampol Deputy Commissioner Otillie Kashuupulwa confirmed that the deceased’s next of kin had been informed. He was identified as Mr Teddy Hafeni Nangolo (32). “The accident occurred around 03:30 on
Saturday morning. Mr Nangolo tried to overtake another vehicle and in the process he hit the vehicle on the side and lost control. His vehicle overturned several times. The driver was thrown from the
vehicle and died on the spot after the vehicle landed on him,” she said. According to Kashuupulwa the occupants of the other vehicle sustained no injuries. A witness at the scene, said, when the emergency
services arrived at the accident scene, the victim was still trapped underneath the vehicle. In another accident approximately 10km east of Arandis, a double cab allegedly veered off the road after the driver had
lost control, and the vehicle overturned. The occupants – reportedly German tourists sustained serious to less serious injuries and were transported to Swakopmund Medi-clinic for further medical care.

Desert Rose Project – Documentation submitted This is the text of the e-mail sent to the Proponents of the Desert Rose Project and also copied to the Environmental Commissioner: Mr. F. Schoeman The Legal Advisor, Desert Rose Project Swakopmund 16 November 2014 by e-mail Dear Sir, Sand Rose Development / Desert Rose Project While we have not yet received any response to our e-mail of 11 November 2014 we learnt from other sources that some of your documents have been included on your website. In the section “Current EIA” (http://nehc.co.za/Current_EIA.html) the Sand Rose Development is introduced as follows: “This Convention and Exhibition Centre will be supported by many facilities in order to make it both feasible and user friendly, such as more hotels and entertainment activities, shopping centre, office parks, restaurants, low and high density accommodation, residential properties, golf course, public beaches and more. This project should be a project for Namibians, unifying everyone as a nation who conquered”. It is absolutely grotesque to present an ultra-luxurious complex with multimillion N$ facilities solely aimed at catering for the super-rich as “a project for Namibians, unifying everyone as a nation”. This departure point of the project's proponents once again confirms that they are completely out of touch with reality – both on the “ideal” they are pursuing and the negative reception the whole project has and will continue to receive from the local community and other Namibians.
This project does not have one basic ingredient to unify people. It will never have. It will, however, masterfully accentuate and perpetuate that which plagues Namibia – the great divide between rich and poor. Within a radius of thirty kilometres of the project site, thousands of Namibians struggle daily to accumulate that bare minimum which they need to keep life and limb together. In the rest of Namibia many more suffer equally to escape poverty. To promote this project as a “unifying” endeavour is in itself an insult to all these thousands of Namibians. No one can or will blame them if they view it as an affront to them, and if they regard the proponents as heartless, selfish entrepreneurs bandying empty slogans about, only to give artificial substance to their creation of a secluded, ostentatiously costly and luxurious play world for a small group of well-heeled persons. In this website section Background Information, Appendix D and the Final Scoping Report are reproduced. We and others perused these documents. To be quite frank: what has been presented leaves much to be desired. The quality of the presentation is inferior and reflects a hastily prepared document that is entirely inadequate. Pages numbers are hand written. Maps/images/photocopies are poorly reproduced. Some are barely readable. The scientific review was done between 24 and 26 June - a total of 2 days! (Page 57/88) Furthermore, it is vague, incomplete (by your own admission) and contains numerous inaccuracies and contradictions. The Report admits that comments have not been analysed in full. That makes the scoping incomplete even on the basis of supplied data. In the summary of key issues it is stated: "Those not addressed in the Comment and Response Report will be addressed in the EIA report". Then obviously the Scoping Report presented can surely not be termed “FINAL”. No valid reason is given why these issues which have to be addressed now are being pushed to a future report? On page 344 the Report states: "We confirm that specialists in the different field of expertise are appointed and busy with their specialist reports. We will keep you posted on the progress and outcomes of these specialist reports.”
persons requesting to be registered as I&APs and having in return received pro forma letters to inform them of their registration. But many of their names and e-mail addresses are indeed incorrectly reproduced. A number of registered people, therefore, most probably never have received any correspondence from your office. We are confident that this Appendix is in any case hopelessly incomplete. It has been confirmed to us that the seven-day comment deadline in Section 23(1) (a) of the relevant Act, cited in your email of 10 November 2014, does actually refer to the period when the documents have already been submitted to the Environmental Commissioner, i.e. once the final document has been submitted to the EC, the consultant must make the documents available to all I&APs at that time to allow them to check whether their comments have been duly reflected. Thereafter, they have seven days to send additional comments to the EC. However, there is no period set by the regulations that dictates the period during which they can comment on a report BEFORE it is submitted. So in fact your interpretation is definitely not correct. It is quite confusing as to what is actually being presented - a final scoping report (like the title says), an EIA and EMP as announced in your e-mail? What is meant by a “draft final scoping report”? If such a document does exist then the inevitable question arises: What scoping report did the Environmental Commissioner accept on 25 February 2014? (Page 98). That was then done long before any call was sent to I&APs. But when one searches for what is actually presented the following springs to attention: · The File called "APPENDIX_D" contains some correspondence with I&AP's and at the end of the file is the Environmental Management Plan (EMP), starting on page 229. · The File called "FINAL_SCOPING_REPORT" contains the Final Scoping Report from September 2014 and also some more correspondence with I&APs and correspondence with the environmental commissioner. · The record of Interested and Affected parties (I&AP's) is spread over several shorter lists (so-called groups) and is spread across the two PDF Files, "APPENDIX_D" and "FINAL_SCOPING_REPORT". · If one takes some time to read all the correspondence, it becomes very clear that the response from many sectors of society has been overwhelming. But not one list shows them all together. · The section "Comments on Draft Scoping Report" is on page 227 in the PDF File "APPENDIX_D". This section is empty. Now how can anyone have commented on the Draft Scoping Report if the opportunity was never given and the information never shared?
A document titled EIA / Environmental Impact Assessment cannot be traced (neither on the website nor in the folders in the Swakopmund Public Library). There might be a section like this somewhere – but where! Again, more confusion reigns. All this leads to only one inevitable conclusion: the authors are not heeding the public's interest at large. They leave the reader with the distinct impression that they don't want to be bothered with that. Rather just ignore it. There is no evidence that the proponents recognise their duty to properly consult the public, let alone demonstrating that that duty is being fulfilled. This document stands as an indictment against the proponents and their lackadaisical approach to all that matters for the community and what is dear to them. It also demonstrates the utter disregard they have for proper procedure and adherence to orderly processes which form the backbone of all Namibia's environmental laws and regulations and on which Namibia prides itself and for which our country has received many international accolades. A long and arduous road has been travelled to ensure protection and conservation in respect of Namibia's environment as an enduring legacy for future generations. So who dare tarnish the sound track record in environment management Namibia has established and has been praised in Africa and internationally. Since the Environment Commissioner is or will be directly involved in this matter at some stage or another a copy of this e-mail is being sent to him for his awareness of the issues herein brought to your attention. Thank you. Swakopmund Matters
As no record of any appointments is presented, it is safe to conclude that no specialist report has ever been presented. Also on this score the Report is flawed. It is incomplete!
(For Swakopmund Matters the environment of the Namibian coastline and its ocean matters)
It not clear in what stage of the environmental assessment process this Report is being dealt with.

Process will run smoothly, says Isaak Liesl Losper
Voters queueing at the Hosiana Elcin Church Hall in Kuisebmond presidential candidate of their choice, causing the machine to stop. Those in the queue then had to be diverted to the National Assembly voting booth and wait for about 30 minutes while the technician attended to the machine. A technician from Bharat Electronics in India who was on standby at the venue managed to fix the machine, allowing the election to continue smoothly.
Namibia bought the EVMs from the Indian company last year, and is one of the first countries in Africa to have an electronic voting process. It is suspected that instead of pressing the green button first, the voter forcefully pressed the red button, causing it to fall into the machine. Voters are expected to first press the green button to select the presidential candidate they want to vote for.
The red button is then activated, and the voter should press the red button to confirm their vote. The machine emits a beep to indicate that the vote is registered. The same process goes for the National Assembly elections, where the political party logo instead of a picture of the presidential candidate is situated next to the green button. Isaak confirmed that the elections were free and fair
as it was transparent, and there was no intimidation or disruption from the general public or opposition parties. The results of the seagoing personnel’s elections will be announced once more along with the national election results two days after 28 November. The ruling party garnered more than 80 percent of the seagoing workers’ votes. (Additional reporting: Nampa)
Permits
Obtain a permit from the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) to catch fish or dive for crayfish and respect harvesting limitations. WHY? The marine resources are limited and currently some of them are overfished or over collected. It is necessary that everybody uses them wisely and carefully to secure the future harvesting needs by protecting the stock. Quantity/number of marine resources harvestable, minimum size limits of fish and crayfish that can be caught, open season etc. help to manage stocks to avoid the total disappearance of some species in our waters. Do not leave bait or fish on the beach! Either take it home or return it to the sea. This food attracts scavengers like jackals and gulls that prey on other bio-diversity. When you are back home after the holiday, it also inflates the predator population. Where can you get a license for angling, crayfish diving & bait/mussels collection?

Not only does it add value in terms of job creation but it increases economic activities, said Rev Ludwig Hausiku, the Special Advisor to the Minister of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture, Mr Jerry Ekandjo. According to Mr Nahas Angula the Art and Craft Centre will promote the development of art and crafts in our communities. In his speech which was presented by Rev Ludwig Hausiku, he said community cultural workers shall now have a market place to sell their products. The event attracted a lot of people from all walks of life, mostly tourists and the business community. The founder and the chairperson of COSDEF Mr Nahas Angula was not present at the event as he had to travel to Rome for other commitments. The COSDEF centre was built last year and is now a vibrant beehive of activity. COSDEF is a registered Trust coordinating, supporting and supervising the various Community Skills Development Centres (COSDECs) and other training providers that offer competency based skills training to various communities throughout Namibia. This weekend different stalls were erected selling food, and different crafts showcased. There were also performances by well-known musicians, under which the popular Elemotho with his guitar. The centre is one of the largest arts and crafts centres in Namibia.

Commotion over trucks acebook in public road
Facebook Question Written on the namib times wall: Jamie Lee Orr
Good day, I have a query regarding the cleaning of sand in our streets. I know that Meersig does not have tarred streets /
roads, but isn’t it still the Municipality’s responsibility to keep the streets clean? Here are photos where you can see
sand that has been piling up in front of a house in Meersig. I have heard that people have gotten stuck with their cars, how do you explain
getting stuck in the street with your car? The sand is the same level of the sidewalk!
Namib times has been investigating and here is the latest:
Sand in street a regular setback
Madelaine Laubscher Members of the public took the sweeping of 8th Road in Meersig into their own hands last week after a huge build up of dune sand prevented motorists from being able to drive properly for days on end. After the newspaper spoke to the municipality it was decided that the sand will be removed, but the complainants still feel that this will not solve the problem. The newspaper arrived at the scene where members of the community were sweeping heaps of sand out of the street. “This has been going on for over a year. The municipality occasionally only sweep the sand to the sides of the road, but it does not solve the problem at all. It has built up to such an extent that an accident almost occurred recently. This is a danger on the road. It cannot be left as is, because the whole street is covered in sand.
Could the municipality not put a fence up to prevent the sand from blowing into the street?”a resident asked. According to her it is also a disadvantage to her business as she accommodates tourists. “The sand is an eyesore to the tourists. It is utterly inconvenient,” she said. After speaking to the Municipal Public relations officer, Mr Kevin Adams, it is understood that the municipality promises a more positive result to be visible within the
next few days or once the wind has settled down. “Following a meeting on Tuesday between the municipality and the contractor, the latter has agreed to start removing the sand immediately,” Adams concluded. The newspaper revisited the scene again, finding workers busy cleaning the street. The complainant commented, “this will not solve the problem. We want to know whether a fence can be put up, in order to block the sand from blowing into the
street. That will be the only solution to the problem, because once the wind blows, the sand will get heaped up in the street again.” Mr Adams commented that there was a fence before, but that it was taken down due to the nearby development currently underway. “Seeing that the development of property is underway, this will hopefully only be a temporary problem. The houses will block the sand from heaping up in that street,” he said.
A local resident has complained to the newspaper that 5th Street West in Walvis Bay is becoming a crisis due to all the trucks parked in the public road. Peter Baron Van Ginkel Wb mun if you need someone to,investigate call me , it will take less than a week to,sort this out. Allan Roodt It takes 2 years to investigate trucks parking in the wrong place? I think this is accurate since it takes me 7 weeks to make a cup of coffee. Seriously how hard is it to send a patrol car and issue fines? Gerard Jensen Mr Platt please visit Hage Geingob Street (previously known as 8th street) between 16th and 17th road. Trucks have been parking here, being repaired and becoming a public nuisance for such a long time now, they can now even be observed right from "GOOGLE. Drive up that street and look for an abandoned truck between 15th road and 16th road. It has been standing there for more than six months (!), with members of the police as well as the traffic police driving past it on a daily basis. The truck is not licensed, recent re-surfacing of Hage Geingb street in that area has actually had to physically "work around" that truck, and I am pretty sure that the next update of satellite maps within Google maps will also show that specific truck as yet another "permanent landmark" of Walvis Bay, unless someone actually
starts doing something about it. I'm even prepared to make a bet there: at any given day, Monday through Sunday, you will be able to spot at least a dozen, if not multiple dozen of trucks parked in just this street (Hage Geingob Street, Walvis Bay), all of them in the residential parts of it, all of them over night and as such not while delivering or retrieving items loaded onto them, and at least half of these vehicles will have no license that would allow them to be operated (including: being parked) on Namibian roads. Should you indeed be unable to even find *one* such truck (and as I said: this is just *ONE* street in Walvis Bay), my personal advice would be to seek the advice of a local optometrist as soon as possible, in order to avoid inadvertently running into any other inanimate objects - you know: before it hurts. Ndagwedha Sonia Luanda Benson Traffic department se ** hull het dan niks gedoeni, dai mense suk net mens wat speed om di mense te fine verdr wari hull vokol, write a letter straight to th mayors office dan eers sal hull wikkel. as dit gerespond word dan screenshot jull dit van ons almal sal weet wat hull sal rply. John Hendrick Nobody in Africa really cares a damn,
we live for now with no consequences. Bennie Smith Snr It is true that it does not look good. This just underline the urgent need for a sufficient truck stop in Walvis Bay. This is truly something that the Municipality can budget for. Elmo Hancock Plato Lets act and not investigate... Laelenz Laelenz So true, that 5th road is in such mess, to me it is danger zone here at Walvis, traffic department should act in this regard quickly! Leon-Pieter Kuhn Leon In my straat 14 de weg langs polisiestasie en willys gym staan trokke al vir weke. Is daar nie n regulasie vir voertuie wat langer as 7 dae staan dit weg gesleep kan word nie. Andre Everts The same thing is happening in Hage Geingob street. Sometimes these imported vehicles are completely taking over the street so that we, who lives there, cannot get our vehicles in or out of our own properties! Hectic..... New Executive Director for NID
NAMIB NAMIBTIMES TIMES 9 9
The Board of Directors of the Namibia Institute for Democracy (NID) is pleased to, following an internal promotion, announce the appointment of Ms Naita Hishoono as Executive Director effective 1 January 2015. Ms Hishoono takes over this position from Mr Theunis Keulder, who decided to step down at the end of this year to pursue other interests. The Board is elated about the new ideas and energy that Ms Hishoono brings to the NID. Her long history of organising and implementing civic education and training programs will allow the NID to continue
and expand its near quarter-century of work to strengthen democratic institutions in the Republic of Namibia. At the same time, the Board wishes to thank Theunis Keulder, who has been one of the founder members of the NID in 1992, for his longstanding commitment and leadership to build the NID as one of the leading democracy and governance in-
stitutions in Namibia. He will continue to serve the NID in a strategic and mentorship role as Chairman of the Board. The Board also announced the election of Ms Naomi Kisting as Deputy-Chairperson. Ms Hishoono has been managing all civil society related programs at the NID since joining in 2006. She has wide experience in leading
teams and networks of national and rurally based Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in conducting programs to strengthen democracy in Namibia. She is currently coordinating the NID’s election observation mission and implements other programs to strengthen the interaction between civil society and Parliament, Regional and Ms Naita Hishoono Local Authorities.

The company’s range of services-non-destructive testing includes ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, surface flaw detection, advanced non-destructing testing (NDT). Few people are aware of this crucial industry, which ensures the safe-
ty of individuals in all corners of the industrial entity. According to RITC’s management this is a very expensive venture, but at the end of the day, with the survey and testing done, everybody can rest assured that the structure, ship or aircraft is safe and secure for usage. At this point in time equipment to do the testing is imported from South Africa and qualifications can also only be obtained in the Southern neighbouring country. The Walvis Bay Company

Fun walk for diabetes Liesl Losper
The Diabetes Foundation of Namibia had a fun walk to commemorate World Diabetes Day, and to raise money for people with Diabetes. Around 50 people participated in the event to increase awareness about the condition, and to educate people about diabetes control. The route stretched from the Atlantis Sport Club along the lagoon, with Penny Pinchers sponsoring the water for walkers. The Diabetes Foundation of Namibia says, “Diabetes is not a disease, uncontrolled diabetes is. Even though there is no known cure for diabetes, with the proper tools and

education it can be managed and controlled effectively so as to prevent complications, such as damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart, and nerves.” The foundation wants the general public to know where to seek help and advice if needed. It says it also helps patients who cannot afford to buy their own insulin. Visit the foundation's Facebook page for more info on Diabetes.
Happy fun walkers for Diabetes Day
Karateka training seminar huge success A spectacular Karate Training Seminar was recently conducted in Walvis Bay and the turn-up was very good. The first session was held for the black belts, on Friday evening at the Walvis Bay
Dojo, in Meersig. On Saturday morning at 08:00 a group of ninety people of Goju
Ryu gathered at the lagoon for the gasshuku, whereafter all students, older than 9
years, moved to the Walvis Bay Dojo in Meersig for more training. The general objective of these training seminars was to expose members to a broader picture of Okinawan G o j u - Ry u K a r a t e , thereby helping to expand their vision of the art, in turn to stimulate and preserve their interests. The Presenter was Sensei Carl van der Merwe, 6th Dan, and Chief Instructor of Namibia, assisted by other Instructors from GKAN.
