following an anonymous tip-off, the Namibian Police found mortal remains in a shallow grave in the dunes. Clothing items matched the description of the clothes Wasserfall wore on the day of her disappearance in April last year. Madisia was arrested first and days later Mulundu was also arrested. The duo made a brief appearance in the Walvis Bay magistrates court on Wednesday, where they were informed a forensic report is still outstanding and therefore the case has to be postponed. Forensic evidence is crucial in this murder investigation if the State wants to have a solid case.

Early morning find on the lawn at the lagoon raises eyebrows...... A doll, a plastic sword, a plastic crown, a whitened cap and a bag containing candles (among others) were spotted by early morning strollers and joggers on the lawn next to the lagoon in Kovambo Nujoma Driver yesterday morning. The matter was reported to Namib Times. People who phoned the newspaper said they are too scared to open the bag, as they thought it to be linked to a satanic ritual. “Is this something someone just forgot there when he or she sat down on the lawn. Could this have been stolen during a burglary somewhere and left there. Could this be linked to some sinister activities relating to Satanism”, asked a very concerned member of the public?

Mount Sinai celebrates fourth birthday Eileen van der Schyff
Mount Sinai, a faith-based substance abuse rehabilitation centre at Usakos, celebrated its fourth anniversary on 18 February this year. For the owner and Head: Lay Counsellor, Mr Arno Engels, this is an important date on his life journey. Five years ago, on 18 February, Engels experienced his first day “clean” after battling substance addiction for several years. Engels this year for the first time did not “remember” 18 February as his first clean day. He is upbeat about this, explaining it is an important sign of personal growth and that he is moving on. Engels explains the anniversary of Mount Sinai every year is a day of deep gratitude towards both individuals and organisations who support the rehabilitation centre. Support much needed to ensure it can continue to make a difference in the lives of people suffering from addiction. “We at Mount Sinai also thank the loved ones of those receiving counselling at the centre. Thank you for having faith in us to help your loved ones”, said Engels. He also took the opportunity on behalf of himself and his life partner Ronya to thank his parents, sister, other family members and friends for supporting them. Much like any other person that suffers from addiction, Engels too had a spiritual guide in his journey to stay free
of addiction. That is Pastor David Barber. “Thank you Pastor Dave Barber for what you do for people. Walking with Winners changed my life”, said Engels. Adding: “Most importantly, thank you God for everything I have, for what You have given me, and for the man I have become. If addiction is a disease, it's the only one we pay for. It's a choice, and God has given us the ability to choose the right and the good into our lives.” Arno concluded. Mount Sinai Substance Abuse Recovery Centre's main objective is to help people overcome
their addictions. It assists the addicted person to build character and nurture spiritual wellbeing. At Mount Sinai they believe addiction is not genetic, but rather a co-dependency problem. The Centre's programs are designed for those who wish to recover, to achieve fulfillment and to reintegrate into society again. The Centre is in the process to expand its service profile to also include programs where people freed from addiction undergo further guidance to restore to a structured life where both emotional and disciplinary issues are addressed.

Namport Celebrates Women Month By Sponsoring Medical Screenings For 40 Underprivileged Women Namport, together with the Namport Social Investment Fund (NSIF), once again showed their commitment to fulfil their mandate as a responsible corporate entity, by ploughing back into the community in which they operate. In celebration of Women's month, the Ports Authority joined forces with Dr Jeketera Khumalo, a local Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from Walvis Bay who recently launched a Pap smear campaign. The cam-
paign was aimed at screening women within the Walvis Bay community without access to medical aid, to undergo the test which might be otherwise unaffordable. Speaking to Dr JeketeraKhumalo, she said,
“Without partners like Namport and other likeminded entities, we as a group of female doctors who volunteered our services free of charge would have not been able to conduct 271 Pap smears on ladies from Walvis
Bay”. For those who are fortunate to afford medical aid might not appreciate how much a single test costs, but more so, this one single test can be the difference between life and death. Handing over the dona-
tion, Namport's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Andrew Kanime said, “It is an honour for Namport and (NSIF) to join hands with the doctors to play our role in complementing their commendable efforts”. Namport's donation will be used to pay for the analysis of the tests which will be carried out at local laboratories. A Pap smear, also called
a Pap test, is a procedure to test for cervical cancer in women. The test is done to look for changes in cervical cells before they turn into cancer. If you have cancer, finding it early on gives you the best chance of fighting it. Pap smear screenings are vital for every woman who is sexually active and it is advised that women undergo a Pap smear test at least once
every three years. Namport through NSIF which is the tool the entity uses to reach the social needs of the Namibian community, has committed N$2.8 million in the current financial year for different projects. From this committed amount, more than N$1,5 million was directed towards the medical fraternity.

Maritime education and training agreement signed Rudi Bowe
The Namibian Ports Authority (NAMPORT) and the Namibian Maritime and Fisheries Institute (NAMFI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on maritime education and training cooperation at Walvis Bay. NAMPORT that manages the ports of Walvis Bay Lüderitz and NAMFI, Namibia's premier training institution for all maritime personnel who has enjoyed a long standing of amity with many programs of cooperation's established in the field of maritime education and training over several decades
last Friday signed a MOU at Walvis Bay. By signing the MOU, the institution consents to cooperate in the provision of high-quality training in the area of maritime safety and a cadet training program as well as in the area of exchange of maritime expertise for capacity building and all other services in the areas of common
interest which will be identified by the institutions in the duration of the MOU. Namport's acting Human Resources Executive, Suama Kalulu said at the signing ceremony that maritime education and training is one of the tools through which Namport's strategic goals can be driven and achieved and
optimising human capital effectiveness can only be realised if we continue to develop competent and motivated employees, hence we place a high premium on human capital. Kalulu said, “I am confident that through our efforts and commitment we will be able to achieve more and to continue to develop even stronger
relationships and will be in a strong position to take on our challenges and lobby for support to our shareholders and other stakeholders.” “I assure you that NAMPORT will do whatever to provide the successful implementation of this MOU” Kalulu said. NAMFI Director Maggy Sam, said that this agreement offers an excellent opportunity to expand the educational and training cooperation between the
two organisations as strong emphasis is placed on maritime training and employment creation. Sam said “Under the agreement, the two organisations will cooperate and develop curriculum in several key, emerging fields of study, primarily cadetship, safety and other programs as the need arises. In the long term, this agreement will not only be an educational cooperation but also a contribution towards Namibianizing the maritime
industry and its waters.” “I look forward to see this relationship between these two institutions grow and flourish over the coming years to export qualified and experience maritime professionals to other countries and attract forex into Namibia” Sam added. “This MOU will go down in the books of NAMFI as its first major achievement as it will be the gate way for more others to come,” Sam said.

Stevens in Major League Rugby league Rudi Bowe
Namibia's 2019 Rugby World Cup Scrumhalf, Damian Stevens will make his debut tomorrow, Saturday 20 March in the Major League Rugby league in the USA for NOLA Gold Rugby Club. NOLA Gold signed Stevens through the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year old scrum-half from Walvis Bay made his Namibia National Team debut for the Welwitschias against Kenya on 8 August 2015 and has since earned 27 caps for his country. Stevens was a standout performer for Namibia during Rugby World Cup 2019. He started against Italy and New Zealand, scoring a try against the Azzurri and kicking three penalty goals against the All Blacks. Other Namibian world cup players that are playing in the Major League Rugby league in the USA are Namibian hooker Obert Nortjé in the colours of the Seattle Seawolves, where another Namibian, Kees Lensing, is the head coach, with JP du Plessis also play in the colours of NOLA Gold whilst flyhalf Cliven Loubser will play for the Utah Warriors and Namibian eighth man Adriaan Booysen will again play in the colours of the reigning champions the Houston SaberCats.

Coastal Netball players off to Spar Challenge Three Netball players from the Erongo region are part of the Namibia's senior netball side, the Desert Jewels that will leave for Cape Town today to partake in the Spar Challenge from 24-31 March in Cape Town South Africa. The coastal Netball players, Anna Kaspar and Rachelle Roets received with the rest of the National team their national colours from the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC). The Debmaine Desert Jewels are joined by the 'She Cranes' of Uganda, local sides Proteas U/21 and the SA President Invitational squad and the South African Senior National team. The Spar Challenge will be played in a bio-bubble. Desert Jewels Head Coach Julene Meyer said that the team have prepared well and will put up a great show at the competition, as their main aim is to secure a top-10 world ranking through their participation in the Spar Challenge. Martens said “Debmarine Namibia has been a proud sponsor of Netball Namibia over the past four years and they have proven to be a worthy recipient of our sponsorship.” Desert Jewels captain Jatjinda 'Toetsie' Kambatuku expressed gratitude to Debmarine Namibia for always coming to the team's rescue when it is most needed and helping to fulfil its purpose. Airlink, the independent Southern African airline, is supporting Namibia's “Desert Jewels” national netball squad as its carrier to the 2021 Spar Challenge tournament between South Africa, Uganda and Namibia, in Cape Town, which is key to the team's eligibility to compete in next year's Commonwealth Games. The travelling team is as follows: Jatjinda 'Toetsie' Kambatuku, Rachalle Roetz, Anna Kaspar, Monica Gomases, Emmy Kutako, Kathy Mwale, Venyekerera Maharero, Juzelri Garbers, Anna Shipanga, Loide Hanyanya, Ndeshitila Kulaumone and Eve Kamutushi.

Willie Els Junior Open Golf Champion Willie Els was the overall winner of the Rossmund Junior Open Golf Champion at the Rossmund Golf Course in Swakopmund on 13 March. Under the auspices of the Namibia Junior Golf Foundation (NJGF) hosted the Rossmund Junior Open at the Rossmund Golf Course, with about 30 Junior Golf players from Tsumeb, Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Henties Bay, and Rossmund - were doing the rounds from early morning until the sunset. Where do they get all their energy from one might ask? The junior golfers play in 5 divisions “A to E” depending on age and handicap/experience. The division defines the number of holes played and from what distance. The NJGF thanked all the parents who offered up their time to assist with scoring, controlling etc; members of the Rossmund Committee and a special word of thanks to Adélle and Poena Johnson from Tsumeb Golf Club for running the tournament so brilliantly – you are all stars. Results: Overall Gross and Champion Golfer: Willie Els 169, Overall Nett: Xavier Schreuder 158. “A” Division Gross: JJ Grebe 179, Nett: Christiaan Spangenberg 167, R/U Gross: Kyle Johnson 188; R/U Nett: Tiaan Voigts 172. “B” Division: JP Johnson; “C” Division: Justine Naobeb; “D” Division: Prince Robert; “E” Division: Marcel. Well played to all and especially the first timers. Whilst all this excitement was going on the Club Members competed in the Annual Captain vs Vice Captain Betterball Stableford sponsored by Engen – Swakopmund Service Station with a field of 32 players. Weather conditions were perfect with very little wind to upset the golfers. Unfortunately for the Captain his team was beaten fair and square for the 2nd year in a row so they say – which led to the ringing of the bell by Michael. The day was full of fun and thank you to all the golfers who remained in the clubhouse for the prize-giving. There was only one 2-club coming from Dr Bertie Saunderson who donated his prize money to the bar staff. Stuart Salt assisted with the prize-giving: Nearest to the Pin Prize on Number 7 went to Helmut Ndjendja – whose ball just made it onto the green – whilst nobody made it on Number 3 – a lucky draw was held and won by Sigi Baumgarten. Winners: 1st: Helmut Ndjendja/Thomas Shitaleni 43pts, 2nd: Steven Johns/George Murasiki 42 points, 3rd: Peter Bassingthwaighte/Dougie Smith 41 points, 4th: Michael Ludeke/Stuart Salt 40 points, 5th: Gaby Adams/Rina Knight 39 points (c/o) over Chris Magson/ Gerhard Byleveld 39 points.

Blue Waters coastal cricket champions Rudi Bowe
Overall Nett Winner: Xavier Schreuder with Blue Waters 1 Cricket club is the 2021 Coastal 40 Overs Poena Johnson (NJGF Representative) cricket champions after they beat the defending champions JCCA by six wickets in the final of the coastal league at the Walvis Bay Oval last Sunday. JCCA bat first and set up a target of 162 runs for 9 wickets. Blue Water scored 166 run is 30.4 over to be crowned as the champions. In the semi-finals that were played last Saturday Blue Waters beat Outjo by 172 runs and JCCA beat Sparta 2 by 199 runs. Blue Waters captain Matthew de Gouveia said “I am very proud and am happy as we won this league and the 2021 coastal T20 and 40 over leagues. This is quite an accomplishment of his team.” “The final was both interesting and tough as both teams brought their best to the field. We managed to hit the runs quite comfortably; we lost our head a bit in the middle, but did well at the end” De Gouviea said. JCCA captain Nian Grobler said that losing the league had brought the team back to earth as we've won the 40 over league for the past four year and the T20 league for the past three years. Grobler added that the lost in both 40 over and T20 leagues will gives us space to work on ourselves and to come back stronger.” “Both teams prepared very well. This was quite evident on the pitch. Things did not go the way we wanted and we allowed them to score runs more freely” Grobler said.
