The President's Links Continued from page 1 be an added attraction and The President's Links are hopeful of attracting thousands of golfing tourists. Aiming to be on the top-100 list of global courses, they are also optimistic that they can attract the Sunshine Tour back to Namibia and possibly even stage a DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) event in the future. Van Schalkwyk said, “the location is perfect within the dunes, and will be one of three golf courses in the world built in a unique dune setting. We believe the golf course's location will attract thousands of golfers from across the globe to come and experience our desert master piece. In an extremely arid country like Namibia, water conservation is always a priority, and The President's Links will be using electro coagulation technology to convert water that was formerly effluent, exiting the Walvis Bay municipality, into an odourless source of irrigation water for use for irrigating the golf course. The municipality has granted the estate three million litres of water a day, currently not fit for human consumption and cannot be purified to potable drinking water. All water not used on the estate will then be sent back to the municipality for use in the surrounding community,” van Schalkwyk said. The President's Links is complying fully with the Edge (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) Certification system of the International Finance Corporation. Edge certification gives owners the assurance that their homes are built to be resource efficient. By focusing on energy and water saving initiatives, as well as ensuring the maximum use of raw materials in their most natural state, the estate has made a minimum of 20% savings across the board. The director said the estate is a big investment for

Namibia with the Walvis Bay community benefitting through the presence of multinational technology retailers such as iStore, a new state-of-the-art hospital, a hotel and casino operated by an international group, and other retailers of global brands such as Starbucks. According to van Schalkwyk, the President's Links will undoubtedly boost the local economy, creating jobs and will stimulate the Walvis Bay economy, adding to the sense that Walvis Bay is a centre of growth, especially since the construction of the new container terminal at the port, which (increased from 350,000) has a capacity of at least 750 000 standard 20-foot equivalent units per annum. He added that for non-golfers, there will be plenty of other amenities for the amusement of residents, including pet-friendly recreational parks, a sports education centre, fine dining restaurants, coffee shops, gym, bowling alley, swimming pool, tennis courts, running and cycling tracks and a cinema. The President's Links set in the beauty of nature in its raw form with a mixed development will offer spacious living and incredible amenities with the ultimate in-style luxury and the ideal opportunity to live, work and retire in Walvis Bay. Investing in this eco-friendly sustainable, yet modern and sophisticated estate includes free golf membership. “Anyone investing in The President's Links will automatically contribute to The Living Desert Fund where 5-7% of every house sold will go into this sustainability fund, which will enable community development initiatives as well as maintaining the golf course and clubhouse.” The project implementation is scheduled to commence in 2022 and is subjected to all statutory approvals being granted. Namibia poised to become major renewable hydrogen producer Lüderitz has been earmarked as a serious growth zone. The worldwide group has embraced this growth plan. Namibian authorities have already been invited to current their post-Covid financial restoration plan on the World Financial Discussion board in Davos. Namibia has now already sourced €40 million (N$712 million) in funding from Germany to make use of feasibility research and pilot tasks associated with 'inexperienced hydrogen'. Lüderitz is about to get up to an inexperienced power rush. Namibia is poised to make the most of its pure property, and place itself as an inexperienced hydrogen hub. The town will want a brand-new Deepwater port to export its hydrogen by way of ship, which the federal government already planning to fund by way of a private-public partnership. As a consequence of Namibia being an arid nation, and the method of electrolysis requiring giant quantities of water, the federal government envisions seawater desalination crops, which can embody photo voltaic crops to make sure manufacturing is carbon impartial. The undertaking sites for these hydrogen crops will consist of commercial blocks outside of Lüderitz, roughly 100 square kilometers in dimension. The town with 30 000 inhabitants, is already planning to develop its water, sewage and housing, for the housing of an expected 3000 inhabitants progress per block. Namibia's pure property might make the nation the world's most cost-effective inexperienced hydrogen producer, and be instrumental in reducing carbon emissions to the net-zero benchmark by 2050. Tesla Energy solutions to launch Electric Vehicle Charging Station in Walvis Bay Eileen van der Schyff

A Proudly Namibian company, Walvis Bay based Tesla Energy Solutions, with over 10 years of support for energy related solutions, is at the forefront in pioneering the electric charging market locally. The company has started its Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station rollout awareness campaign which will soon officially be launched at the coast. With chargers already on Namibian soil, engagement with the necessary stakeholders is in the process, and several EV owners already use this service in Walvis Bay. Namibia is very much on the journey of E-mobility, with at least over a dozen Electric Vehicles already in our midst. An electric vehicle charging station is equipment that connects an electric vehicle to a source of electricity to recharge electric cars, neighborhood electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. An electric vehicle is a vehicle that uses one or more electric motors for propulsion As Tesla Energy Solutions anticipates growing interest-and-demand, the need for electric charging stations have become a necessity. As fuel prices rise, motorist will be forced to change their transportation habits to adapt to new ways. E-mobility, through public transportation, private vehicles and other means of travel will become mainstream to ease the cost burden and dependency on fuel. The transportation sector through Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles contributes to approximately 14% of the total global Green House Gas (GHG) emissions. The aggressive targets to reduce global GHG emissions to 50% by 2030 and 90% by 2050 have increased the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and opened many new opportunities in the electric mobility space. ICE vehicles are being phased out globally as countries and manufacturers both announced that 50% of their ICE vehicles will cease registration and production respectively. For this reason, electric mobility is an inevitable necessary reality of the future. Electric mobility is inevitable a necessary reality of future forms of transportation and is very much already here. The first launch of such was in 1997 with the Toyota Prius. For more information and E-Mobility related content, you can visit Tesla Energy Solutions on their recently launched social media pages on Instagram and Facebook @teslaes_demose.

Andrews' motion goes unopposed Piquet Jacobs

During the ordinary council meeting held at the Kuisebmond Council Chambers on 16 December, a motion tabled by Cllr Olivia Andrews to bring financial relief to single residential and business rate payers of Walvis Bay was submitted unopposed for further consideration as Walvis Bay Mayor, Trevino Forbes, relates to 2021 being a difficult year for all. In Cllr Andrews motion address, she highlighted that a fair number of businesses countrywide have either closed or are not operating at full capacity due to the hardships brought on by the pandemic, and as a result has impacted their cashflow negatively. “The purpose of this motion is to assist individuals and business rate payers of Walvis Bay to recover financially from the negative impact COVID-19 has caused in their day-to-day lives. Therefore, this motion recommends the writing-off of all interest levied on municipal accounts of developed properties in line with available legislation, policies, and guidelines since commencement of COVID-19 in March 2020; writing-off of all pensioners, and deceased (who's estate cannot settle their outstanding debt) ratepayers accounts up until the date of

passing on; that the charging of interest rates on all municipal services be put off for one year to allow for account recovery; administration to investigate the possibilities of reducing the current interest rate charged on arrear accounts; and all debt on municipal owned and rental properties be written off.” Mayor Trevino Forbes accepted this motion for further consideration as he took word to the many difficulties faced by Walvis Bay residents during 2021. The mayor highlighted that 2021 will be a busy year for the Walvis Bay Council, as they will be hard at work to improve service delivery, attract investment, increase employment and support youth development. Forbes also put emphasis on the importance for everyone to stay safe and to adhere to COVID-19 regulations, stating, “the virus does not move on its own, it's moved by people.”

Namibian-European world alternative folk Band Wilde Kind releases Omhanda Album co-written by Christoff from Walvis Bay Omhanda is the Oshiwambo word for rhinoceros. It's the language of the Aawambo, spoken by almost half of Namibia's population. Rhinos are special to Namibia and the world. They have roamed the earth for millions of years, and are a vital part of a healthy ecosystem. Yet this mighty beast is now fighting for its survival, and has become an emblem of conservation around the globe. Sadly, the rhino is not the only animal whose survival is threatened. The song pays homage to animals who face extinction due to human action and inaction, among them the rhino, elephant, the pangolin and many more. The song's brass section was created to imitate elephants trumpeting, while the voices of the children's choir reflect the innocence of a species threatened by extinction, as well as a hope and plea to preserve and protect the natural world for future generations. Wilde Kind's new album is a homage to home and nature. Danella, lyricist and songwriter of most of the songs on “Omhanda”, has two homes: her birthplace Namibia and her current home-base The Hague in the Netherlands. Her songs reflect her love and concerns for the state of nature in Africa and the world. Her love of rain (Liquid Sunshine) and endless road trips through the desert (Lost the Sunscreen) on the one hand, and sociopolitical issues such as poaching (“Omhanda”) and global conflicts (“Earth for Sale”) on the other hand, make for a diverse range of listening experiences. Listeners are taken on a journey through many different feelings and places - and that in a mix of three languages (English, Afrikaans and Oshiwambo). From slow and dark folk ballads (Die Hoofstraat) to happy indie-pop singalongs (Darling Sun), the album offers many delights. The songs are written by Christoff who hails from Walvis Bay.

Gift Of Love This Festive Season The Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group, through its subsidiaries, Hangana Seafood and Kraatz Marine, on 15 December, unveiled a sponsored playground for the children of the Topnaar community. On this day, about 120 children made their way to the playground and enjoyed snacks and a day of fun. The O&L Group has been hosting Christmas parties for approximately 400 orphans and vulnerable children every year since 2004. Hangana Seafood and Kraatz Marine typically host the coastal Christmas party on behalf of all the O&L subsidiaries, however, this year instead of hosting a party, employees from the two companies joined forces to construct a playground that would give the children of the Topnaar community many more days of fun. Hangana Seafood Managing Director (MD), Herman Theron, stated at the unveiling, “An effort of this nature is precisely what our O&L Group Purpose, 'Creating a future, enhancing life', is all about. We hope that through play, exploration and the building of friendships around this playground, the healthy development of these children will be strengthened, and their lives and futures enriched.” Theron extended his thanks to all those who assisted in making this play area a reality, including the Living Waters Churchfor granting O&L permission to build on the piece of land bestowed to them. “In closing, let's continue to invest in the development of our children and look after this playground so it may be a source of joy for young ones for a long time to come. We call on others to support this initiative by lending a helping hand and possibly donate more items for the playground as well as expanding it so that the children of the Topnaar community may never run out of fun.” Theron concluded.

Swakopmund clamps down on discharge of fireworks this festive season Sharlien Tjambari

Death Notices

Swakopmund officials are warning residents to be extra careful when setting off fireworks this festive season. The council says not only will the use of fireworks without a permit not be allowed, the discharge of fireworks within the town, including private homes and gardens without prior permission from the local authority is prohibited and against the law. The discharge of fireworks in residential areas is a criminal offence. According to the Swakopmund council, the loud unexpected sounds from fireworks causes stress and anxiety in some people and is especially traumatising for small children

and pets. Fireworks have a different effect on an animal's nervous system than other loud sounds like thunder. Sounds from fireworks trigger the animals fight-or-flight instinct causing them to run away. The public is requested to assist the council in the prevention of the use of fireworks within the residential areas by reporting the offenders to the relevant authorities. The Swakopmund police can be reached at 064415004, the Traffic Services at 08114677/8/9 or the Emergency Toll-Free Number at 0640800410410.
