Today marks an historic day in the history of Namibia’s mining industry. A ship carrying the country’s first 52 000 tons of iron ore, produced by Loadstone Namibia (Pty) Ltd at its Dordabis Iron Ore Project, departed the Port of Walvis Bay this morning. Namibia is officially an iron ore exporter now. The Chief Operating Officer and Country Manager of Lodestone Namibia, Mr Daniel Castelyn, yesterday confirmed this historic development to Namib Times.

In fact, 40/4/40 represents Gous being 40-years old, it took him 4 days to cover the distance, at 40 kilometers a day. Months of practice prepared Gous for the 40/4/40 run that started on Tuesday. Killed in vehicle accident A 26-year-old man was killed in a car crash, some 15km east of Swakopmund on the B2 on Wednesday night. Manfred Mbi Kauvi lost control of his Opel Corsa (N4246W) and the vehicle overturned, rolling several times. The accident occurred at around 23:30. Kauvi died in the Swakopmund state hospital a while after the accident and the only passenger onboard were only slightly injured.

Suspended municipal officials cleared of wrongdoing - to report back at work on 1 Sept. The municipality of Walvis Bay lifted the suspension of four municipal officials, after an investigation cleared them of financial irregularities surrounding a low-cost housing project the municipality carried out on behalf of the Namibian Government. The suspended personnel included the municpality’s CEO Muronga Haingura, the General Manager of Community and Economic Affairs, Agostino Victor, senior housing official Jack Manale and housing official Connie Summers. The officials must report for duty next Wednesday, on 1 September.

Swakopmund Lion Renate Witt Eileen van der Schyff dies in car crash The community of Swakopmund is shocked and saddened by the passing of Renate Marie Christine Witt (76) on Tuesday this week in a vehicle crash. Witt was traveling from Okahandja to Karibib when she lost control of the vehicle she was traveling in, about 10 km from Karibib, causing it to overturn. Witt succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Witt was an active and hard-working and dedicated member of the Swakopmund Lion Club.
Remains of baby still missing Sharlien Tjambari
The mortal remains of a still-born baby, which went missing from the Swakopmund state hospital's mortuary, was not ye located by the time of going to press yesterday. It has been a week now, and the family have not received any positive response from the relevant health officials. The baby was born on 17 August, but did not survive. According to documents seen by Namib Times, issued by the health ministry on 18 August, the family was supposed to collect the remains from the mortuary on 19 August. When the family arrived at the mortuary at 16:00 on 19 August, officials could not locate the body in the mortuary. According to the family's spokesperson, Mr Kolofu, the family demanded answers from the hospital's staff, but was told to return the following day. “How do you expect a person who is mourning to come back the next day, after all the suffering and all the arrangements which were made”, asked Kolofu. Adding this is plainly a lack of respect for ordinary members of the public, apart from being a scandal as well. Senior health officials were called in to investigate the matter. No response has been forthcoming. During a telephonic conversation on Wednesday, Kolofu confirmed the family opened a criminal case against the health ministry in Erongo. The matter is now in the hands of the Namibian Police.

The Municipality of Swakopmund cautions the public after receiving a report of a group of females, impersonating Municipal Health Officials or pretending to be Swakopmund Municipality representatives in order to gain access to houses to “inspect” flats and houses. If any suspicious person knocks at your door claiming to be a Municipal employee, immediately notify the police and if possible, take photos of the persons or their vehicle. All council employees carry Swakopmund Municipal name tags and identification. The municipality will always phone owners of a specific buildings to set appointments for intended inspections

We are therefore delighted to partner with the digital enabler, MTC, who has committed to help the council towards realizing the goal of becoming a smart town”. According to Am-!Gabeb, the two parties have agreed to cooperate in the following areas of activities: Smart metering and smart grid platform that aims to remotely assists with data management and monitoring capabilities, automation and control; jointly develop smart home connectivity products for council's clients via smart meters, cooperate with Erongo regional electricity distributor for advertising on lamp poles; and transmissions and fibre infrastructures in order for MTC to access its towers and clients.

It was a great day of golf at the Walvis Bay Golf course with some impressive golf on display. Attie van der Westhuizen walked away as the winner in Walvis Bay with 37 points, Grant Mather second on 34 Points and Willie van Zyl 34 Points third. All golfers with an official handicap are allowed to participate in each of the nine events with the winners from each event will progress to the final, with the format being an individual Stable-ford. At the final event, the ten winners will respectively team up with an invited sponsoring team consisting of three players to compete for team prizes as well as attractive overall prizes, which are unmatched on the local golf scene. Tomorrow, 28 August the action will move to the Rossmund Golf Course in Swakopmund with the last round of the "Coastal Swing" on 4 September at the Henties Bay Golf & Lifestyle Estate. Thereafter the series will continue at the Windhoek Golf and Country Club on Saturday, 18 September, while the final takes place at the Omeya Golf Club on Saturday, 20 November. South African rally drivers completed a 1000km dune training in the oldest in the world desert, the Namib, to prepare for the gruelling 2022 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. The Namib Times recently met-up with entrepreneur and dune conqueror, Hennie de Klerk and Adriaan Roets as his navigator and veteran South African cross-country competitor and businessman from Plettenberg Bay, Geoff Minnitt and navigator Siegfried Rousseau at Dune 7 Adventures near the coastal town of Walvis Bay. Team Treasury ONEDakar 2022 Hennie de Klerk Adriaan Roets and Tjaart van der Walt plans continue on course completely re-fettled V8 Amarok . The duo pressed the race truck straight into flat out action off its shakedown, fresh from its nut and bolt restoration. The Dakar 2018 Rookie winner Hennie De Klerk said that they had a fantastic week of Namibian dune testing in preparation for the Dakar in Saudi Arabia in January. De Klerk said “It was a long week of training in a thousand-kilometre desert adventure that has played a massive role in our Dakar 2022 preparations and we once again learned so much, the car quite literally came through with flying colours and Adriaan did a brilliant job in the hot seat.” “The dunes were very tricky with the east wind that blew when we started with three days on the bigger, more predictable terrain of Meob. “Those are the biggest dunes that you will ever see! “We then moved over to the more challenging sands around Dune Seven. “They are more like the smaller dunes and holes we expect to find when the Dakar enters the Saudi Desert's mysterious and sandy Empty Quarter for the first time in January” De Klerk said. “We did have a few challenges as our solid first day in the dunes was interrupted by a bit of a moment when the TreasuryOne Amarok fell over because we went too soft on the pressures and the car sustained a bit of cosmetic damage” De Dlerk said with a smile. “Adriaan and I also did some great basic navigational exercises thanks to local dune guide Werner Scaap from Opposite Lock in Swakopmund, who set an incredible training route for us” De Klerk added. Adriaan explained "Hennie is a superb driver as he reads the dunes very well, so I am really looking forward to the Dakar alongside him, this is
really going to be a good one.” Geoff Minnitt has teamed up with the experienced navigator, Siegfried Rousseau who finished his primary school at the coastal town Swakopmund, their main aim – other than to enjoy the experience – is to reach the finish line at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on 14 January 2022. Preparations have started for Geoff Minnitt most properly the oldest driver at 64 years and Siegfried Rousseau's 2022 Dakar Rally challenge. The due embark the week of dune driving and prepared in Namibia with their WCT Engineering built and run FIACan-Am Off-Road Maverick. Geoff Minnitt said that this will be the best time to tick off a Bucket List item, and that is exactly why he has decided to enter the 2022 Dakar Rally. Competing in desert racing conditions will be valuable experience for Hennie/Adriaan and team Minnitt/Rousseau who will participate in the Kalahari Rally in September. About 14 teams with 12 cars with 108 persons including drivers and navigators from South Africa will participate in the 2022 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. Both teams' preparations become competitive again as Hennie/Adriaan and Minnitt/Rousseau now prepare to tackle the 3600km 6-day Kalahari Rally early in September to improve their navigation on compass bearing skills to find the way points on a great route across Kalahari dunes, just like on the Dakar The 2021 Kalahari Rally, will take place from 3 to 10 September through riverbeds, over mountains and through sand dunes, including in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Askham, Van Zylsrus and Heuningvlei in the Northern Cape, before heading to the North West Province. The Dunes galore 2022 Dakar Rally will feature more sand dunes as the epic car and moto stage race heads back to Saudi Arabia for the third time The 2022 Dakar Rally will start at Ha'il in the north of Saudi Arabia on January 2 and finish in the western coastal city of Jeddah on January 14. Hennie/Adriaan thanked everyone at Treasury One Motorsport team and Minnitt/Rousseau thanked WCT Engineering.
