Presidents visit Namport Mavourlene !Gaës

New Primary School for Swakopmund

The President’s maiden visit comes as part of his National Tour of the Country’s regions to familiarise himself with the challenges and the developments at regional levels. President Lungu who acknowledged the excellent work that is being done at the Port, said Zambia’s people need to up their Page 5 game to ensure they are on the same level as Namibia. Also welcoming the President to the Port was the Chief Executive officer of the Namport Authority, Bisey /Uirab, who ex-

plained the progress made with the container terminal expansion project. “ This project is in line with all the ongoing projects of Namport, and we are trying at all costs to assure that they stay within the alignment for vision 2030.” /Uirab says one of the key objectives of the National Development Plan 4 (NDP4) is that Namibia becomes a logistic hub for the SADC region. “This project is directly aimed at ensuring that we meet that objective, the Port of Walvis Bay’s new

The President of the Republic of Namibia, Hage Gottfried Geingob, made his first short visit to the Walvis Bay Namport Authority yesterday afternoon. He was accompanied by the President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu, Page 4 and Geingob’s wife, Monica Geingos.

The President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu (right) with President Hage Geingob and First Lady Monica Geingos container terminal on reclaimed land is a project which is probably the biggest port development that Namibia has ever seen since independence.” He says this project will pave the way for Namibia to become a major logistics hub in SADC, by more than doubling the current volumes which can be handled in the port - from 300 000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) which is the number of containers which are being handled, to about 750 000 TEUs. According to /Uirab they will be spending about N$4

billion on this project. “We have taken a loan from the Africa Development Bank to the tune of about N$3 billion, and the rest will be funded to Namport Resources, and will be resources that we are getting from the Government of the Republic of Namibia.” To date the project, that is being constructed by the Chinese Harbour Engineering Company, is “completed to about 26 % and it is very much on schedule.” “A total amount of about N$1,5 billion has already been paid over to the contractor and the size of the

land that we reclaimed through this project will be 40 hectares. It will have a key length of 600 metres and a water depth of 16 metres.” /Uirab says the Zambia Dry port at the Port of Walvis Bay, that the Namibian Government availed to the Republic of Zambia in 2009 and is currently being managed by African Union Financial services, is doing well despite challenges. “Over the past five years, the trade volumes that come through the port of Walvis Bay from Zambia has increased significant-

ly and as of today we are handling about 5% of the copper that comes from the Copper Belt in Zambia.” Highlighting some of the challenges they are facing, /Uirab says they are informed at NamPort by their clients, that the route between Walvis Bay and Zambia is being made expensive due to the fact that there is no rail link between Zambia and Namibia. “Every time that we engage with our counterparts or our business people we are told that Namibia and Zambia must ensure to connect the two countries by means Continues on page 2

Capacity Expansion at Walvis Bay Salt Holdings

Staff Reporter The salt field expansion project at Walvis Bay Salt Refiners has recently kicked off. The expected completion of the construction phase of this project, entailing a capital investment of more than N$60 million, is March 2016.

The expansion includes additional evaporation ponds, concentrator ponds, crystalliser ponds, an additional seawater intake and a feeder pipeline. An additional area of 1 450 ha for concentrator ponds Bladsy 36 and 100 ha for crystallizer

ponds will become available to the salt works’ existing 4 500 hectares footprint. The project will enable annual production capacity of the salt field to be increased with an additional 240 000 tons over the next

three years. The Company already produces 750 000 tons per annum of which the bulk is exported internationally. The Company has followed the required environmental processes, including an EIA and public participa-

tion, and an Environmental Clearance Certificate for the project was received during 2014. Being situated in a RAMSAR site and the greater Dorob National Park was considered during the EIA process. In line with the Company’s

local mineral beneficiation strategy, an investment was made three years ago in a local table salt refinery, being Ekango Salt Refiners. Product from this refinery is distributed internationally to well-known brands like Nestlé and Unilever,

and the Holdings Group’s recent acquisition of the Cerebos business in South Africa will ensure much needed synergies with a top international recognised brand. It is expected that the expansion will not only Continues on page 2

has better authority.’’ Kazondu has said some of the workers are being told that the union is a third party and they cannot make decisions on the company’s behalf. “That is not what they are trying to do as they are there to manage what the workers are saying.” He explained that he would not normally jump to a demonstration before resolving the workers’ issues but, for anyone in this field of work this is usually the

last resort. “This is just to tell the company that we are serious, we want to resolve the workers’ problems and as the workers stated we are more than willing to go all the way until this issues are resolved.” The workers say it is saddening to see extreme measures taken on matters that concern two parties that in fact should be handled amicably, but they are left with no other choice by

the management of Guan’s Packaging as they are subjected to bad treatment and when they choose to speak up they are victimised. The workers are requesting a transparent grading system as the salary structure is not fair, the company does not respect their union and they victimise the shop stewards elected by them. They are also demanding a Human Resources person that will attend to their concerns.

Guan's Packaging wokers during their peaceful demonstration “We have already registered a Dispute of interest with the Labour Commissioner’s Office on 17 August and we shall go all the way, until our concerns are addressed.” Some of the placards of

the workers read “We want better wages, We need pension and same work same pay plz!” When contacted for comment, the Production Manager of Guan’s Packaging was not reachable.

Air Ambulance Crash Victims’ bodies not yet released The bodies of the five victims of the air ambulance crash will only be released to the deceased’s next of kin around the 7th of September. Terence Ward, the father of Alfred John Ward, one of the five victims, told namib times on Wednesday night at a memorial service held in the ESK, Tamariskia, Swakopmund. Many members of the coastal emergency and rescue services attended the memorial service. Ward says the forensics

department is waiting for DNA results to be released, after which forensics will conclude their investigation. Another memorial service, that had been scheduled for this evening (Friday) in the same church, has been postponed to tomorrow morning at 9:00, to accommodate people coming

from afar. On Tuesday evening, the CEO of the Prosperity Group and E Med Res24 Namibia, Bertus Struwig, told namib times that more than 400 people had attended Tuesday’s memorial service for the five victims of the air ambulance disaster. The memorial service was held at at the Safari Motel in Windhoek, and the families of all five victims were present, as well as extended family, from near and as far as Cape Town. A van der Walt expands big time

Scania “over the moon”

A van der Walt Transport, one of the biggest transport companies in Namibia and situated in Swakopmund, yesterday clinched a N$50 million deal with Scania, after purchasing thirty trucks from them. According to Mr Andre van der Walt this is the first of approximately 100 trucks which they intend to buy from Scania, as part of their expansion. He noted that they took the huge step mainly because of their trust in the Walvis Bay Corridor Group's route. The company started doing business in Namibia during 1999 and since then became one of the leaders on import and export via the Corridor route. Van der Walt noted that they import about 3000 tonnes of copper from Zambia each month. A total of 100 loads are required and amount to a staggering N$250 million per month. Copper is only one of many products they transport. The newspaper also spoke to Mr Clif-

ford Marchbank of Scania and he noted that they have been trying to clinch this deal with Van der Walt for almost three years. “This is a huge deal and we are over the moon,” he noted. Marchbank further stated that they (Scania) are busy changing A van der Walt's entire fleet from Freightliner to Scania and that this was only the first thirty of 123 trucks. The total deal will amount to about N$148 million. About Scania: Scania's vision is to be the leading company in its industry by creating lasting value for its customers, employees, shareholders and other stakeholders. Today Scania is a leading manufacturer of heavy trucks, buses and coaches and industrial and marine engines. In addition, the company offers and sells a broad

range of service-related products and financing services. Scania operates in some 100 countries and has 34 000 employees. Of these, 2 400 work with research and development – mainly in Sweden, close to the company's production units.

“Namibia Training Authority do not run Vocational Training Centres well” – Teachers' Union of Namibia Sharlien Tjambari The Teachers' Union of Namibia (TUN) has called upon the Minister of Higher Education and Training to intervene, and see to it that VTCs are not run by the NTA any longer. The President of the TUN, Mr Mahongora Kavihuha, during the signing of the recognition and procedural agreement between the TUN and the Community Skills Development Foundation (COSDEF), has expressed his dismay at the Namibia Training Authority (NTA). Kavihuha says a different structure should be established to run the VTCs . He says they have observed what is happening in the Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) regarding the role of the NTA, and they (TUN) are not happy with the NTA as the representative of workers. “The NTA has started engaging in the process that is completely not under their mandate. The NTA was established with the objective of being a regulatory body, regulatory in terms of dispatching the money to the providers, certifications, development of curriculum and you name it. The NTA owning or running VTCs disadvantages private institutions or anyone who wants to start in vocational education.” Kavihuha says, “The VTCs do not have a funding formula. No vocational education policy has been developed which the NTA is required to do by law and thirdly, they don't have a clear cut on how the institutions should be registered and governed, so VTCs are performing very poor on the real mandate that is provided for in the act because they have

engaged in the process that is not their responsibility according to the act.” According to Kavihuha, the TUN as a union is going to insure that they start implementing what is in the act and do what is due given to them. Kavihuha is concerned about the management of funds in the NTA, as there is currently also no formula or guidelines on how to manage money. Through the agreement that they are signing with COSDEF, they will use the instructors of COSDEF to raise awareness. Kavihuha says he is raising these issues to ensure that with the agreement the instructors are well taken care of, and that the unfair system of the NTA comes to an end. “As a union that represents the interests of educators in the Republic of Namibia, whether directly or indirectly, we are very thankful for us being accorded this opportunity by the instructors to negotiate officially on their behalf and in the same way we are also very much pleased by the good faith that COSDEF has shown to engage us in this process” said Mr Kavihuha. The Executive Manager of COSDEF, Mr Jeremy Muller, has expressed his satisfaction with the agreement with the TUN and says he is looking forward to working with the TUN. He says he is grateful that the NTA is providing them with subsidised funding towards the provision of training to trainees.

Mr Gerd Loch said he was asleep in his house in The Esplanade and woke up to a loud explosive noise around 01:00 and ran to a window to see what was going on outside. To his surprise he saw a car standing in his front yard. The next moment the driver reversed, made a u turn and backed right into the neighbour’s boundary wall, thereafter he drove down the street in a western direction.

Shortly after the incident, two vehicles of a security company turned up and they were pointed in the direction the driver went. Apparently he was apprehended at a drinking spot at the Waterfront but it is not clear if he was arrested. On Wednesday a photo was circulated on social media of the alleged vehicle who was used by the young man (unconfirmed reports stated that the vehicle, a Volvo S60, was his father’s car).

The tyre tracks on the scene of the accident indicates that the vehicle was coming down Nangolo Mbumba Drive, turned left into The Esplanade, hit the pavement and went through the first boundary wall, and reversed right into the adjacent property’s wall. The name of the driver is known, but a police spokesperson could not confirm whether a case was opened against the culprit.

Grade 10 spring school launched

Marshallino Beukes A spring school for Grade 10 learners in Swakopmund, was officially launched on Tuesday at Coastal High School. At this event learners were reminded the Erongo Region is renowned for its ability to get top academic results each year and this spring school is one of the reasons, as pupils in the Region should live up to this standard of excellence. Junior Town Councillor and learner at West Side High School, Romandi Basson gave an inspirational speech to her fellow learners and noted that this spring school could be the key or stepping stone to achieve their dreams and should thus be seen as very important. In his key-note address, Constituency Councillor

Juuso Kambueshe emphasised the utmost importance of this spring school and noted that discipline should be the key. “This is a platform where you can interact with other learners and also exchange information, not to be hype or cool,” Kambueshe remarked. He reminded the learners regarding the fact that many other children do not have such opportunities and urged them to appreciate it, pay attention and to be grateful. “Please, I beg of you to make use of it,” Kambueshe concluded. The Deputy Director: Lifelong Learning, and former school principal, Mr Elias Manga, gave the

learners a good scouring, after noting a lack of discipline from some of them. “ Yo u s h o u l d understand that you are not here for pleasure. Your attitude is not good at all and this should stop right here!” he lashed out. He noted that this was a noteworthy occasion and thanked the main sponsor, Namsov, who donated N$350 000 for the spring school. Swakop Uranium donated N$100 000 towards the Grade 12 spring school, wich kicked off last week. “You should subject yourselves to authority and please remember to be appreciative for this opportunity you have been given,” he concluded.

A new primary school, Swakopmund Montessori Academy, to open next year in Swakopmund School Principal and founder of the new Swakopmund Montessori Academy, Nikki Gantz, a qualified and purist Montessori teacher with years of experience, says the need for a new primary school is twofold. On the one hand primary schools are bursting at the seams and there is a huge need for more schools on the coast and on the other hand the Montessori way of teaching kids to

think “out of the box” is very popular. She says, “For example Princes Harry and William from the UK were both Montessori schooled, as were Larry Page and Sergey Brin –

Nikki

founders of Google, amongst others. Montessori is not a school for children with special needs or with learning difficulties, but a normal mainstream school with an academic curriculum on par with any mainstream Namibian school, the difference is the way teaching is done.” Swakopmund parents wanting a teaching system that focuses on the individual child are over the moon with the prospect of the new primary school. This method of educating a child has been proven to be a successful way of teaching ever since Dr Maria Montessori wrote down her suggestions (in the early 1900's) on teaching methods, based on how she understood a child's mind develops. In her book – The Science behind the Genius, Dr Angeline Lillard, professor of psychology at the University of Virginia

shows that scientific research has only now caught up with what Dr Montessori has been saying for more than a 100 years and provides in her book astounding scientific support of Maria Montessori's insights. Mrs Gantz says, “Montessori schools world-wide have been and still are misunderstood in many ways. The problem is that the name Montessori has no copyright and therefore anyone can call their school or kindergarten Montessori, without actually having trained Montessori teachers on the premises. These false schools have done huge damage to real Montessori schools. Parents are advised to always ask for proof of training, before placing their children in these schools. Here in Namibia we are fortunate to have a training college for Montessori teachers,

called “Headstart” in Walvis Bay. This Montessori Teacher Training College, with Principal Director Dr Lindsay van den Berg, has 300 adult teachers in training and is registered at the National Council for Higher Education.” Nikki Gantz, trained and qualified at this college says that what makes Montessori teaching methods different from main-stream schools is that each child is allowed to learn at his own pace. She says, “This is misunderstood sometimes as “learn as you like”, but in fact each child does have a goal and milestone to reach, the difference is that he does not have to reach it the same time as the rest of the class. Too many times children do not understand a concept in class, yet despite this the class moves on to the next concept, leaving the child behind. Most often the parents

end up teaching the child or a remedial teacher tries to fill in the gaps. This often means that the child simply scrapes through school without actually having learned anything.” In a Montessori school the child only moves forward if he fully understands everything up to that point, and because all the stress of “keeping up with the h e r d ” i s o ff h i m , learning becomes a joy full experience. Montessori teaching is all about laying a strong educational foundation. If the assessment of a child finds holes in any given subject, he or she has to fill those holes first before being allowed to move onto the next level. As such, every child is given an individualised curriculum, therefore you may find a particular child is in grade 3 in one subject, but might be still only on grade 1 level in another subject. Of course there are other

advantages, but one picture hanging on the wall in Dr van den Berg's office, showing the graduating class of 2005 from the Walvis Bay Montessori Elementary School, before it was renamed The International School of Walvis Bay, answers all the questions a parent might have regarding the standard of education received at a Montessori school. Going from child to child, Dr Van Den Berg points to each saying, “this one became an engineer, this one a journalist, this one a pilot, this one an accountant, this one psychologist, this one paramedic” … and so the list goes on. For more information about the new Montessori primary school opening in Swakopmund next year you can contact Head Principal Nikki Gantz at 081 883 4683 or email at nikki.homeseal@gmai l.com

“This nation belongs to all of us” Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises The Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises and patron of The Etosha Vulnerable Citizens Soup Kitchen (EVCSK), Engel Nawatiseb, yesterday morning at the Civic centre in Walvis Bay, accepted canned Horse Mackerel donated by Namsov Fishing Company for pensioners in Tsumeb and pre-schoolers in Grootfontein. Nawatiseb has expressed his gratitude towards Namsov for responding to their request to assist the pioneers of the EVCSK. The Soup Kitchen is a project that transports and feeds pensioners when they have to travel to collect their pensions and while they are waiting in queues. The Dr JP Damaseb Kin-

He regretted the ongoing

The master plan aims to assess the potential for and economic viability of both freshwater and marine aquaculture in the country. Esau was accompanied at the launch by, amongst others, his deputy Chief Samuel Ankama and the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Dr Moses Maurihungirire. The third and fourth National Development Plans (NDP3 and 4) and Vision 2030 envisaged that by the year 2030, aquaculture will have grown to a thriving sector that provides food, income and employment for both the rural and urban communities. Esau told those who attended the launch that aquaculture has been recognised as

a potential vehicle towards the realisation of food and nutritional security, as well as poverty eradication. He further informed his audience, which also included Kavango West Governor Samuel Mbambo and Omaheke Governor Festus Ueitele, that the Aquaculture Master Plan forms a vital link to Namibia’s strategy to secure a national and household food supply. “It reduces poverty, creates employment, especially for vulnerable communities, and encourages product diversification and economic growth,” Esau said. He went on to say a master plan is a blueprint for the future and essentially provides a roadmap to

The information and concepts presented in the National Aquaculture Master Plan are intended to guide strategic planning and inform public policies on aquaculture development. In his annual address to ministry officials in April this year, Esau noted that despite investing about N$38 million in aquaculture during 2014, the projects are not yielding the desired results, adding a collective approach of all stakeholders in the industry is needed. WHY? The marine resources are limited and currently some of them are overfished or over collected. It is necessary that everybody uses them wisely and carefully to secure the future harvesting needs by protecting the stock. Quantity/number of marine resources harvestable, minimum size limits of fish and crayfish that can be caught, open season etc. help to manage stocks to avoid the total disappearance of some species in our waters. Do not leave bait or fish on the beach! Either take it home or return it to the sea. This food attracts scavengers like jackals and gulls that prey on other bio-diversity. When you are back home after the holiday, it also inflates the predator population. Where can you get a license for angling, crayfish diving & bait/mussels collection?

Letter of Concerned Walvis Bay Resident draws attention A Letter from Katja Noh-Lund on Tuesday, 18 August got the attention it deserved and we place the letter and those following it… Subject: Walvis Bay lagoon becomes polluted by building sites!!!

To whom it may concern, The ongoing pollution of our lagoon has reached a new level since the construction of buildings closer to the water’s edge has begun. A local builder (picture 1) has seemingly no knowledge of the effects of the strong south western winds, as he dumps all his heavy plastic sheets carelessly next to his construction site. The result of one single day of south-western winds are shown on pictures 3-6, all taken today on Tuesday, 18. August 2015. The Walvis Bay lagoon – known as one of the richest and most important Ramsar sites on the African continent – becomes a victim of the construction business. All the heavy black plastic sheets doubtlessly originate from that one particular building site; why does the municipality simply ignore the fact that the most visited tourist spot of our town is neglected and gets polluted day by day? Why are there no

The letter received a Swift Reply From: Bob Mould Subject: RE: Walvis Bay lagoon becomes polluted by building sites!!! Good Day Katja, Thank you for bringing this to our attention as we were certainly not aware of this problem, it must have happened within the last day or so. All the black waterproofing (sheeting) has been removed from the Lagoon and surroundings this morning. I inspected the Lagoon this morning myself and we have also instructed the contractor to move the steel reinforcement next to the retaining wall on site and to tidy up the area (building site) in order for this not to happen again.

Please take note that even though all has been cleaned up some of the windblown material also came from the other building site where the Chinese contractor is currently building. We trust that you will follow up with them as well. We share your concerns regarding protecting the environment and appreciate you notifying us regarding the situation. And was followed by a kind letter of gratitude Dear Conrad, In the name of all residents of the town of Walvis Bay I would like to thank you for taking responsibility and most of all - immediate action to have the problem solved. Referring to your comment about the other builders in the area, be assured that we are constantly keeping an eye on them, especially as we had a similar incident a couple of weeks

ago when they broke down your former office building and the insulation foil was spread all over the place… I am very pleased to attach a photo – taken this afternoon – showing a big group of young people who came from the inland, enjoying the flamingos. Needless to say how important it is that the younger generation finds an intact and unspoilt coastal area to de-

Letter to namib times Dear Sir or Madam,

I read your article of Eddie Techmann’s accident. My name is Anna-Maria Holjevac, I´m a dentist from Germany/Stuttgart and I was one of the first at the scene of the accident and gave first aid to Eddie. I and another man stabilised him, Eddie was clear and told me he is an instructor and had more than 11 000 jumps. I saw Eddie falling down while I was driving on the B2.

I have been on holiday in Namibia and I and my boyfriend were on our way to Etosha Park when Eddie fell down before our eyes in front of our car. It was very frighten-

ing to see him swirling down. I jumped out of my car and ran and ran as fast I could to him. Have you any information about his healing process? Please give me feedback. I wish Ed-

The Benefits of Getting Tested Knowing your HIV status is the first and most important step one can take towards living a healthy lifestyle. Mobile populations in Namibia face many challenges and one of them is to resist the urge of having multiple sexual partners, especially when on the road.

WANT TO KNOW YOUR HIV STATUS? We provide the following services at our Roadside Wellness Clinic: HIV testing and counselling CD4 Count Measurements / Tests STI screening and treatment Risk reduction counselling Social behaviour change & communication sessions Basic Primary Health Care Hypertension / Blood Pressure (BP) Glucose screening TB screening Condom distribution Referrals to appropriate treatment, care and support services

By having regular HIV tests and receiving treatment for other sexually transmitted infections at any of the WBCG mobile or roadside wellness clinics, they are taking a significant step in ensuring that they maintain a healthy lifestyle and do not spread the virus further in case they are HIV positive. People who test HIV positive at any of our centres 10 NAMIB TIMES or who know they are infected can be referred to receive HIV treatment (antiretroviral medications) at any of our local hospitals. Effective treatment keeps HIV infected people healthy and living longer. Studies indicate that all people with HIV infection, including those with early infection, benefit from antiretroviral medications. Treatment with antiretroviral medications lowers the level of HIV in the blood (viral load), reduces HIV-related illness, and reduces the spread of HIV to others. Knowing they have HIV infection allows people with HIV to protect other people with whom they have sex from becoming infected. Knowing that one tested positive for HIV helps that person to make better decisions about sex and health care. Studies have shown that many people with HIV who know that they are infected avoid behaviours that spread infection to others with whom they have sex. HIV-infected persons who do not know that they are infected do not avoid unsafe behaviours. Persons who know they have HIV can get medical care and take anti-retroviral medications that can reduce HIV spread by as much as 96%. Knowing that one does not have HIV infection can also help that person make better decisions about sex and health care. For example, antiretroviral medication can also be used to prevent HIV infection in persons who are HIV-negative. This is called pre-exposure prophylaxis.

If you think you have been exposed to HIV please visit our Roadside Wellness Clinic in Walvis Bay to get a free, confidential HIV test today.

Ysbeen in Afrikaans, Ice Bone in Engels.

in olie braai, deel ek graag my eenvoudige resep…

tem 50g Backsoda (Bicarbonate of Soda) und 50 g Bittersalz (Epsom Salt) darin; 3.

I cnnot believe that you are gone, I loved you so much and I never, ever thought this day would come, You meant so much to me, you were my friend, my councellor, my guide, but most of all, you were my mother... it is with great sadness that I’m writing this message to you, and to be honest, I’m at a loss of words because I never have imagined life without you, you were taken away from me so unexpectedly, I still can’t believe it. How I wish I could have held you just one more time, your last words to me were “My kind ek is lief vir jou, moenie worry, ek sal okay wees.” I will hold on to those words forever... I love you Mamma, you will always be in my heart, I will always love you.

Carlo Olga

The Lord saw you getting tired, a cure was not to be. He wrapped you in his loving arms and whispered “Come with me” You suffered much in silence, your spirit did not bend. You faced pain with courage, until the very end. When I was young you took me in and loved me as your own. The years passed by so quickly death parted you for me I hope you know how much it meant when I sat upon your knee. Gazing into heaven as I quietly reminisce I’d give a million of those stars to feel your gentle kiss.

In Memory It broke our hears to lose you, but you did not go alone, A part of us went with you, the day God took you home. If tears could build a stairway and heartaches make a lane, We’d walk our way to heaven, and bring you back again. In Life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still, In our hearts you hold a place NO one could ever fill. Love Always Mamma...

Carmen, Paulo & Roxy & Nola

You never said I’m leaving you never said goodbye, You were gone before I knew it, and only God knows why. Will miss you forever, my sister

Our family chain is broken now, And nothing will be the same, But as God call us one by one The chain will link again.

As we look upon her picture, sweet memories we recall Of a face so full of sunshine, and a smile for one and all. So, my dear sister when you were on earth, you do best, so God called you by your name to give you rest. RIP my dear sister, till we meet again...

Your brother: Boytjie, Rose and Family Olga

Daisy and Family

Sadly missed along life’s way, quietly remembered everyday, No longer in our life to share, But in our hearts, you’re always there.

My other Mother

Rest in Peace, my sister

Though I’ve never called you “Mother” In my heart I know you know, that you’ll alwys be remembered for the seeds of love you sow.

Meisie

You’ll forever be regarded for your kind and gentle way, for your words of love and guidance, Things that only Mothers say.

To Mamma A wife, a mother, a grandma too, This is the legacy we have from you. You taught us love and how to fight, You gave us strength, you gave us might. A stronger person would be hard to find, and in your heart, you were always kind. You fought for us all in one way or another, Not just as a wife, not just as a mother. For all of us you gave your best, Now the time has come for you to rest. So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep, Your love in our hearts, we’ll always keep. We will miss you forever Mamma

Chester, Dylan, Kirsten and Carter

And though I’ve never said it, Still I pray that you can see, you have been my “Other Mother’’ and forever shall be! Rest in peace, love always,

Gigi We don’t think of you as gone away Your journey’s just began Life holds so many facets this earth is only one I just think of you as resting from the sorrows & tears in a place of warmth and comfort. Where there are no days or years. Our love for you is not written on paper for it can be erased. Nor is our love for you etched in stone, for stone can be broken. But our love for you is inscribed in our hearts, where it shall remain forever.

Nieva, Aidy & Zay Zay

The Lord saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be So he put his arms around you and whispered, come with me... With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away. Although we loved you so dearly we could not make you stay A Golden hearts stopped beating Your beautiful smile at rest. God broke our heart to prove He always takes the best. It’s lonesome here at home without you, we will miss you so each day, our lives just aren’t the same Each time we see your picture, you seem to smile and says Don’t cry, I’m in God’s keeping We’ll meet again some day..

Phoenix Bike Rally 2015 During the weekend of 21 till 23 August, Ventulus MCC, a Swakopmund based Bike Club, hosted the annual Phoenix Bike Rally at the Go Kart Track in Swakopmund. The president of the club, Hugo Smit, looks back at the rally: “It was an amazing success,” he says. “The number of bikers and enthusiasts coming to enjoy the rally was overwhelming.” The rally was packed full with entertainment with mass rides, drag races, circuit racing and burnouts for bike riders, but for those who do not ride or own a motorcycle, there was also a wide variety of entertainment such as live acts, bodypaint, go karting, fire dancing, a stuntplane and skydiving. “All these people that helped to make this rally successful…,” Hugo continues,”…we do not know how to thank them.” In the mean time Hugo Smit and his team have already began brainstorming for next year's Phoenix Bike Rally.

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT 2015 Walvis Bay Golf Club This past year ended in us saying goodbye to Anton as manager of the Golf Club. We have officially said our thank you’s. I'm sure we will still have him here as a regular. This was no doubt a difficult year for him especially with the renovations we had to endure. At best the committee could offer some sympathy at times. The renovators are nearly done and we will have to evaluate what else we as a club should do to get this place as we would like it to be. We are thankful to the Municipality and will be even more so when it is done. The decision to call for a new committee to coincide with Anton's departure was a good one in my opinion and I thank you all on behalf of the new committee for the trust put in us to take the club to a higher level. The committee has pledged their dedication to do the basic things right and I trust we will keep up the energy. I was advised that the less I say here tonight the better. There are a lot of mixed feelings regarding the

previous committee but since I have the floor I want to make a few short remarks. In cricket, before the days of match fixing, we used to say nobody drops a catch on purpose. I think the committee tried for the greater part of the year and therefore we have to thank them. That we dropped some catches is so. Maybe having Anton and Karin here made us complacent. It became too easy to miss a committee meeting. We should have reported back more clearly and regularly. New committee please note. An outgoing chairman would typically use this report to highlight the good that was done under his hand for the past year. In Corne's absence I would like to say that he is not a regular weekend player nor does he frequent the bar in the evenings. However whenever he was in town he would pop around early in the morning for a coffee and a smoke with

Anton to get updated with what was going on. He was always there to authorise work done on the course and played some rounds early in the mornings noticing what was going on. Getting rid of those ugly containers which I bet you can't even remember and replacing it with the garage we now have, was his pride. So even though he maybe wasn't perceived as visible, I can assure you he was here and knew what was going on. Ask Anton and Karin. I hope we will again have the opportunity to see him on committee duty when his kids are a bit older. Jaco Marais did a good job of budgeting and getting the financials out regularly but then he became a father and the reality of that quickly set in. On top of that he is extremely busy at work. I work next door to him and know the hours they have to put in. In my opinion it

remains the best decision to get an outside party to check the monthly figures and report on it against a realistic fee. To hope that working committee members will have the time for that is wishful. Thank you for your time too Jaco. I have to thank Willie van Zyl for his contributions in the form of work done with equipment that the club doesn't have. He knows how to make these things happen. With his help we literally moved a dune of sand from the course and now protected it with fencing reeds and trees. Thanks to Shane who has stepped up to put a

bit more of his weight into the committee. We are finding our feet with regards to the division of duties and I have bullied Shane into accepting that all house matters are his. Im sure he will soon start delegating. I will tonight leave all the sticky topics to him to resolve. Members are so easy on the course. There are clear rules of conduct laid out for us. The moment we sit down is where the grey area begins. The club will apparently be 100 years old in 2017. This committee will have to start planning a big event around that date. This club must have seen great times as well as been on the brink of

closing down. 100 years, whichever way you look at it means it has stood the test of time. We should, in respect of those that came before us, strive to ensure the foundation stays solid to withstand the occasional nicks and bumps. Thank you to those who have paid your annual fees on time. Thanks also to some who don't even come here often but just pay full membership fees in support. Half the club members are SAGES and half of them are sponsors. Having sponsors allows us to profit from competition fees and it increases the overall green fees

collected. Thanks to every sponsor. We have done well in the NAGU competitions. The current standings show we have a few players in the top 20. There are not enough juniors and more so juniors from the previously disadvantaged groups. All assistance with that will be appreciated. The SAGES in this club has no excuse not to have the biggest SAGE tournament of the year here. We have the numbers, let's do it. I will join you soon. I look forward to a prosperous new golf year. Herman Smidt

The 11th African Games are scheduled for September 4–19, 2015 in Brazzaville, Congo (1). This edition marks the 50th anniversary of the Games, as well as their return to Brazzaville, which hosted the first edition in 1965.

said the team has been training well and they are going to give their best when in Brazzaville. “We did not get our preparation funds in time and when we got it, it was too little to do anything. For our preparation, they gave us N$70 000 and that is funds that one can only use to buy water. “What we are currently doing is not preparing, we are just training to keep fit for the games, because when you prepare, one needs to participate at events where you can compete with other athletes as it will help you determine your weak and strong points,” said Emvula. She added that people should not expect miracles in Brazzaville, since the athletes did

not have enough resources to work with or use for preparation. “We have this belief in Namibia of expecting athletes to perform miracles while in the first place they did not prepare well for the games. At the moment, we are not promising any silverware but as a team, we will give our best to keep the Namibian flag flying high,” she stated. All athletes travelling to Congo, Brazzaville are training at the Independence stadium in Windhoek. Cycling federation assists De Lange for world champs Promising young Namibian cyclist Tristan de Lange this week received financial assistance of N$20 000 from the Namibian Cycling Federation (NCF). The sponsorship will be used for his participation in the Mountain Bike (MTB) World Championships, scheduled to take place in Vallnord, Andorra in southern Europe from Monday, 31 August to 6 September 2015. A statement availed to Nampa on Tuesday by the NCF said the contribution would be used towards his travel and accommodation expenses for this event. De Lange, who is the reigning national and African junior champion and also holds the fourth place on the world junior rankings, will be accompanied by Aiden de Lange as team manager, and Mannie Heymans as mechanic. The statement also quotes Rolf Adrian, vice president of the NCF, saying the federation is proud to invest in the future of the promising young cyclist. “Given Tristan's consistent performances and good results over the past months, we are confident he will make Namibia proud. We are exceptionally happy that Tristan received a second chance to take part after he got injured during the World Championships last year in Norway,” he said.

… and, Cyclists also geared Strong Namibian Cycling delegation for AAG

The Namibian Cycling team is in a positive mood ahead of the Games.

A team of 10 cyclists, four women and six men, will represent Namibia in the Team Time Trial, Individual Time Trial and Road Race. Cycling is one of the 22 sports codes representing Namibia at the Games. A statement by the Namibia Cycling Federation (NCF) stated that, preparation for the AAG is going well as participation in these games will prove useful to the riders, especially the ladies team that is preparing for the 2016 African Continental Road Cycling Championships, scheduled to be held in Morocco. “The Morocco African Continental Championships will present an opportunity for the Namibian ladies team to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games,” read the statement. The statement also added that the NCF has lifted the ban imposed on Costa Seibeb and Till Drobisch. This decision was taken in view of their on going commitment and dedication shown to the sport. The NFC hit Seibeb with a 23-month sanction early February this year, after withdrawing from the national team to compete in the African Continental Road Race Championships in South Africa at short notice and without a valid reason. Meanwhile, Drobisch will not be available for the AAG due to team commitments but the inclusion of well-known cyclist, Dan Craven, could see Namibia fielding a strong men's team for the AAG. The team travelling to the AAG in Congo is as follows: Female: Vera Adrian, Irene Eliza Steyn, Michelle Vorster, Chelna Neethling, Male: Michael Nicolaas Pretorius, Dan Craven, Raul Costa Seibeb, Xavier Renzo Papo, Gerhard Mans. Another cyclist to replace Drobisch will be announced on Tuesday. While Team Namibia will depart on 27 August and return on 21 September 2015, the cycling team will depart on 5 September, with the first race scheduled for 10 September. Namibia won seven medals - one gold, one silver and five bronze – at the 2011 AAG held in Maputo, Mozambique. NAMPA

Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti is concerned by the fitness of defender Dennis Ngueza as well as goalkeeper Lloyd Kazapua ahead of their 2017 African Nations Cup (Afcon) qualifier. The senior national football team will play Group K leader Senegal in Windhoek on 5 September. Namibia lost its opening game of the group 0-1 to Niger in June, while Senegal beat Burundi 3-1 to lead the group. Namibia is in Group K with Niger, Senegal and Burundi. A statement availed to Nampa this week by the Namibia Football Association (NFA) said African Stars defender Ngueza and his club mate, goalkeeper Kazapua are on the treat-

ment list. The statement quotes coach Mannetti as saying attacking fullback Ngueza has been struggling with a back injury while Kazapua is nursing a shoulder injury. “Since we got here last week Dennis has not been well with his back and Lloyd has a problem with his shoulder. The medical team is working around the clock to have them ready for the game because they are important players to the team, that is why we called

them up,” said Mannetti. Mannetti added that the training camp is going well with a heightened tempo as the technical team tries to get the players in top physical shape ahead of the clash against the ‘Lions of Teranga’ on 5 September. “We have increased the tempo to see who will be physically ready when we have our final camp that starts this coming Monday. The team will then be reduced to the final 23 men with foreign-based players joining the squad that

will fight for places in the match-day 18 men squad. “I have a lot of players to choose from and it won’t be easy because they are all good in their respective positions and that makes it hard for us coaches to choose those we believe can do the job against Senegal,” stated Mannetti. The Brave Warriors squad for the trainingcamp is as follows: Lloyd Kazapua, Edward Maova, Charles Uirab, Tiberius Lombard, Denis Tjetjinda Ngueza, Benyamin Nenkavu, Ferdinand
