The princely pair for this year is Prinzessin Nicole I Von Debit und Kredit (Nicole Finkeldeh) and Prinz Jean I der Rostrote (Jean Visagie). A representative from the municipality handed over the symbolic town key to the Prinzenpaar. The key is a symbol to give them authorisation of the Karneval's ruling of the town in the period which the Karneval is held. Harald Jensen as well as Manfred Paetow both delivered the “Buttenrede” which is a showlike speech. The Children’s Carnival (WAKIKA), which the committee said was supported overwhelmingly well, took place on Friday afternoon.

Prinz Ray 1 Der Lustige Hampelmann (Ray Gryffenberg) and Prinzessin Dominique 1 Das Lekkermaulchen (Dominique Stein) were crowned as the WAKIKA prince and princess at the Kinder Karneval. The International Evening followed later the same evening and was sold out even before the week started. It is the only evening where the language used is not the traditional German only, but also English and Afrikaans. Spectators turned out in their hun-

dreds in the streets of the town on Saturday for the float procession in which businesses and civil society organisations took part. On Saturday they started with the parade at 11:11 from the Municipal parking area through town and back to the Atlantis Sport Club where all the events took place. Huge trucks accompanied the Garde girls together with the Prinz and Prinzessin who were riding in a gholf cart. Children along the streets were surprised with sweets which were thrown from the trucks by the participants.

Mr Stefan Menges from the WAKA committee said, “The team is very happy with the way the whole event turned out. Our small team has really come together to make the 2015 WAKA another success story. With the generous support received from the community we can only grow from strength to strength. I really do hope they keep on supporting us and that in the years to come we will have a bit more enthusiasm towards the float processions.”

Man sentenced after cursing Mavourlene Gaes Magistrate

Mario Maasdorp (29) who appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate's court on a charge of theft, ended up being sentenced to two months in prison on a charge of contempt of court. This followed after the accused was granted bail on the theft charge, but argued that he was not in the position to pay that amount. On his way out from the dock to the holding cells, the accused swore at the Magistrate and made rude remarks about his (Magistrate's) mother. Maasdorp has been accused of wrongfully and unlawfully stealing a cellphone valued at N$9 800 and has been in custody since his arrest during January this year. The accused requested the court to grant him bail because he has a baby that was born a month ago and he noted that he would like to get out of jail and support his child's mother, who is currently unemployed. The state recommended the bail to be set at N$4 000, because the cellphone has not been recovered yet, and also because of the high value of the cellphone. Maasdorp told the court he only had N$2 000 and would not pay the recommended amount, as he did not steal the cellphone in question. The accused refused to comply and was denied bail on the charge of theft. After being found guilty and sentenced for contempt of court, he did not show any sign of remorse upon hearing his sentence, and even thanked the court.

Guest Speaker Mr Sakie Nicodemus

Mr Motonane from the top Performing school, Namib High School and Ex-Namib High Teacher Ms Muukua also received prizes and where enjoying the evening.

N$2 000 bail for threats to kill girlfriend Mavourlene Gaes

Reinholdt Neumbo (33), who already appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate's court for threatening to end his ex-girlfriends’ life by stabbing her, returned last week to continue with his bail application. Neumbo has been accused by his then girlfriend of abusing her and a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm was laid against him following his arrest last year. “This is not the first time this has happened to me. The first time he tried to set the shack I live in on fire, but I lucky ran out,” Ferestina Mukuba (ex-girlfriend) recalled. Mukuba explained that she had previously reported him to the police, but withdrew the cases in the hope that he would change. In another incident the

accused allegedly came to her room under the pretense of giving money to her and their children. “When he came I asked him to give me the money, but he refused and slapped me with an open hand, before hitting me with a bottle that ended up breaking and cutting me” she added. The latest incident, according to Mukuba, was when she saw him in the street close to her home and he supposedly wanted to talk with her. She testified that she told him it was late and because she was afraid of being alone with him, she continued walking.

“When I tried to get past him he blocked my way and told me that he was going to kill me and that it was because of him that I was in Walvis Bay. He then showed me his knife,” she testified. Mukuba further stated that if passers-by did not interfere, it is unknown what he might have done to her. Neumbo appeared before Magistrate John Sindano Liwoyo, who granted him bail of N$2 000 and a restraining order to not make any contact with the complainant. The matter was postponed to 27 May for further investigations.

Student's financial assistance discussed The Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) visited the Erongo Regional Education Directorate last week for a consultative meeting with education inspectors, school principals, parents and learners. Their main aim was to raise awareness and also promote the activities of the financial assistance fund. Secondly, NSFAF aimed to create awareness on the financial products of the fund and eligibility criteria for awards and funding and also to build partnership and collaboration with regional stakeholders. Inputs from stakeholders on how to diversify and improve the funds offerings were also

discussed. The NSFAF provides financial assistance through loans and grants to eligible Namibians to access higher and vocational education and to recover money from students who complete their studies. In most cases, students fail to pay back the funds and thus narrowing the chances of other students benefiting from these funds. In his official opening remarks, the Governor of Erongo Region, Cleo-

phas Mutjavikua, said that if a student receives the grant and he/she is not serious about education, they tend to drop out, and this is a serious loss for the fund. “Any student who is willing to take the money should be sure that they will complete their studies,” Mutjavikua remarked. He also stressed that parents should see to it that the money is paid back, in order for the future generation to benefit from the

Some of the people who attended the meeting

fund as well. Mr E Manga, the Acting Educational Director for Erongo Region noted that the NSFAF creates an opportunity to enhance the students to excel. “Let us work with the strength within us to reach our goals,” was his message to

the students. Mrs Catherine Koopman (NSFAF), who directs the programme from the Pre-Application Phase to the Payment phase, mentioned that there are some challenges which make it difficult for students to qualify. The main challenge seems to be the lack of parental support or interest in their children's education. According to Koopman,

the students are also experiencing difficulties producing their parent's payslip, which is one of the requirements. The other challenge is the delays in the submission of mandatory documents (signing and non-returning of contacts), incorrect information and the lack of career guidance also forms part of the challenge. Mrs Koopman advised the students to

Sharlien Tjambari contact NSFAF should they have difficulties completing the application forms. Statistics show that in 2009 the NSFAF funded 29 students, the number increased to 304 in 2014. In conclusion it is advised that students should use the opportunity and apply for the loan as it is meant for every student with good grades and who is eager to study.

Obtain a permit from the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) to catch fish or dive for crayfish and respect harvesting limitations. WHY? The marine resources are limited and currently some of them are overfished or over collected. It is necessary that everybody uses them wisely and carefully to secure the future harvesting needs by protecting the stock. Quantity/number of marine resources harvestable, minimum size limits of fish and crayfish that can be caught, open season etc. help to manage stocks to avoid the total disappearance of some species in our waters. Do not leave bait or fish on the beach! Either take it home or return it to the sea. This food attracts scavengers like jackals and gulls that prey on other bio-diversity. When you are back home after the holiday, it also inflates the predator population. Where can you get a license for angling, crayfish diving & bait/mussels collection?

Namsov clears the air Leandrea Louw

Namsov Fishing Enterprises conducted a press conference last Friday, in order to clear the air on some misconceptions regarding the operations of the company. The media had the opportunity to pose a few questions to Jan Arnold, Managing Director of Bidfish Group and his team. On the area of value additions and on shore processing, in June 2014, Namsov invested N$13 million to this cause by chartering the “Atlantic Challenge” from Ireland to investigate the possibility of trawling with a modernised Refrigerated Sea Water trawler. This exercise was undertaken as a serious investment, creating value addition, but the request for experimental quota was declined by the Ministry of Fisheries, which increased the cost of the experiment. According to this plan Namsov’s current fleet of mid-water factory vessels will be replaced by Refrigerated Sea Water Trawlers. The unprocessed fish will be brought to shore and processed in a factory to be constructed alongside the existing United Fishing Cannery. They also gave the media a slight overview on the legal actions, currently ongoing between them and the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. According to them the legal case was perceived as wanting more quota to continue making, what was called, ‘super profits’. However Namsov stated their side of the story, saying they were relying on a certain percentage of quota, but the Ministry then decided to decrease this percentage significantly

We just wish to assure our investors and rely on predictability from the ministry’s side. The N$600 million project however is also a sensitive situation, as nothing has been finalised, and we are still relying on the feasibility study, but there is also no guarantee that it will work out the way it is supposed to,” Arnold said. Eighty-three percent of the managers are Namibian nationals with two Russians taking care of the fishing operations and the maintenance of foreign built vessels, and 96% of the total onshore staff is Namibians, with only 2 Russians, it was noted. On the question, on what is threatening Namsov’s future, Jan Arnold, was honest and said that the fishing nights of Namsov are up for renewal in the year 2018. “This decrement in the

Afgekapte muur versoorsaak ongerief

17-old accused of raping younger boys

Rumours recently surfaced regarding a high school learner in Walvis Bay allegedly touching younger boys indecently and the police stated yesterday that the learner (17) had indeed been arrested on Tuesday.

Nedbank explains hiccups with internet banking Nedbank had a system update done recently and since then, has been experiencing technical difficulty with its internet banking. The newspaper received several complaints that clients are on the verge of moving to another bank, partly due to these problems and partly due to poor customer service. Woman suspects a scam

A local resident told the newspaper that she strongly suspects yet another scam as she was allegedly approached by suspect persons to enter a competition by giving the last four digits of her credit card. Anthéa Ilana October It is a scam, they had the very same thing a few years back, ( i think 2 years). My mom was called and also told she won an all expense free trip with her whole family.... mind you. she never filled in anything of this sort, but excitement got the be... Corene Hart Jammer mense dis nie a scam, dis net ‘n bemarkingsfoefie. Ons was by so ‘n aand en het werklik ‘n naweek gewen by Midgard.

Danny Beukes Same thing happened to us, only difference is that we joined and are very happy. Have saved hugely on travel and accomodation so far. The problems are these: 1. People expect everything for free, dont grasp the conxept that even though certain things are free, you still have other services that requires payment...if its 100% free, its sommer bog. 2. People just hear what they want to hear, and sommer conclude that its a scam. 3. People make calculations on their short term wishes. e.g. I wont go on holiday this year, so I do not need this. I have tested GTA with some

accomodation queries and then tested it with bookings.com only to find that they are indeed cheaper that the given rates. My suggestion to the company is to ask how often people travel and stay in establishments, and leave the one’s that dont travel for leasure or buziness. Jenny Mynhardt Is nie n scam nie ons was ook so drie jaar terug by so funksie, was op Langstrand gehou by hotel... dis maar net studente wat jul kontak en nooi vir daai paar ure, ja jy wen iets maar dit kos aandie einde geld... ek was al drie maal by die funksies, heel onskuldige mense. Jenny Mynhardt Is waar wat Corene Hart daar noem.

Children allegedly exposed to deplorable conditions The namib times received a complaint from a source regarding terrible living conditions of individuals living right next to a children’s home in Walvis Bay, allegedly exposing the children to danger and health issues. Nieuwoudt Boshoff When the lady started the foundation, it was to answer the need for babies being dumped and left for dead. It has worked wonders in the last couple of years, and she has positively contributed to the well-being of abandoned children in Walvis Bay. Now instead of going to Pupkewitz and buying a can of paint, going to them, and offering time and input to

help them pay and maintain the center, the person runs to the newspapers and complain. People in Walvis Bay should really start cultivating a culture of care and community, and quit this negative attitude of criticizing, complaining and being complacent. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem! Anthéa Ilana October I totally agree Nieuwoudt.. If I lived there I would

have fixed up the place. myself, I understand the service she gives, and I myself want to open such a home, but one cannot only sit back and expect others to help you if you dont even help yourself. Nieuwoudt Boshoff The Center operates completely on donations from the public and the ladies own purse, so maintenance is always the first item that gets pushed down the ladder

when making financial decisions. Having been involved there myself in the beginning, I knowfirst hand the miracles that are performed there with VERY limited resources. Lets not pass the buck, lets rather give them what they need, and volunteer our time to help them paint the place, and give them a push. This is not a government or municipal problem, it is a community problem, and as such

WE should take up that responsibility. Anthéa Ilana October So true, I apologize if my comment sounded a bit harsh. We as the community should do some kind of a fun day to clean up the place and also get some sort of income to help out financially. Nieuwoudt Boshoff Now you are talking! I think if there is one lesson that we have had to learn over the last

25years, is that we should not wait for government to step in, we should rise up and do it ourselves. I think we just need to start somewhere, get some volunteers together, and start making the changes that we want to see. Anthéa Ilana October If only we can get someone to organise this? Theresa Büscher Potgieter Dis ‘n skande. Jozze Linyondi So what is the municipal-

ity of walvis bay gone say about this, do they know about this at least they could have engaged themselves into this situation 'n bring it to an end, thn the government will fall in, n assist wr possible or are they also hiding behind their doors not willing to assist. Local poet shares his talent

Madelaine Laubscher

Mr Preneur Muvangua (20) from Walvis Bay wanted to share his poetry with the newspaper and said that his wish is to become a lecturer and wants his poems published.

He started writing poetry in Grade 10. “I do not talk a lot therefore I express myself through my poems. I have not published

any poems yet, but I would really love to. I mostly write about love and life. I would also like to become a lecturer in the future.

“I did not feel it once. It was the only case as many beautiful woman crossed my path. Some were just like oil for the way. But I still got memories of you. Till you turn to dust. Coz I always show love. Even if my title says its lost. I also flow about it but baby thats not at any cost. Back to the deal I cried a river for this woman. The love I feel for you seems like it aint for the human type. Its too deep my heart's under pressure.

I have never performed in front of an audience, but I would really like to,” he said. This is one of his poems:

Blood boiling my veins are dying. After all we shared you took me for a joke but damn I was never broke. Or is it because I was always on the smoke? Baby that’s how I am You found me this way I will accept any, I mean any change on you as long as you reflect my love. But no, you're always on the move. Never got time for your boy. As he now became your toy. As I look in the mirror I claim to love myself. But then my heart pumps in an

unusual way and you come to my thoughts I blush to myself. Grab my phone to get data on how my other half’s doing. All that she shows me is ‘Tata’ and a hand wave. She threw my love to the grave. Know that I understand you. You made me stronger. I will stand on my own now. Because love just got weaker. I am in search of it no more.”

Liquideep to perform at Walvis fish festival The South African soul/house music duo Liquideep is expected to perform at the Walvis Bay Fish Festival in April. The event is known as the Fishtival. The Johannesburg duo will be joined by the Namibian Kwaito group PDK, solo artist Freeda and Elvis se Seun band at the Jan Wilken Stadium from 02 to 04 April. Liquideep is composed of

Thabo ‘Ryzor’ Shokgolo, a DJ and producer and Jonathan ‘Ziyon’ Hamilton a vocalist, songwriter and producer. A press statement issued here Friday by the communications officer at the municipality Anita Kaihiva, indicates that vi-

sitors should expect sea food dishes, traditional fish recipes, kids entertainment, arts and crafts and culinary competition. Last year, the public relations and customer service manager in the Walvis Bay Municipality, Kevin Adams said the

event is intended to market the town and attract investors for economic growth and employment creation. He said the Fishtival also promotes tourism in this fast-growing coastal town. Miss Fishtival beauty pageant, karaoke, and cook-

ing competitions, where winners would receive cash prizes are also expected. Other activities include football and rugby tournaments. NAMPA

Do you think there is something wrong with you?

This might be the answer... Today everybody we know is talking about the quality of life they have and that many suffer from illnesses related to quality of life, and this comes hand in hand with what we eat and put on and into our bodies. Because of this imbalance we start looking at ways to change our eating habits, start taking all sorts of pills and tonics and many times we end up feeling worse than when we started. Recently Annemarie Roetz, a local resident, tried a cream called Naturone. Annemarie suffered from depression and anxiety and after trying all sorts of medications she thought to herself, well she had tried everything else, what does she have to lose. She was already feeling miserable, what harm could this cream do? She thought to herself that there had to be something wrong with her body, some sort of imbalance and this cream apparently

could help with this imbalance. After watching a television programme whose main focus was about the body's balance between progesterone and oestrogen levels she decided to go ahead and try the product. The product was started by Dr John Lee, a doctor based in the United States and he is renowned for his research on hormone levels. This product is called Naturone. After trying the cream Annemarie said: “I dare both men and women who suffer and feel miserable to try out Naturone. It has absolutely no side effects and we've heard so many success stories. The product is used over a period of three months, as it takes three months for your hormonal

levels to be where they are supposed to be. It is in the form of a cream, and not as a pill, as this allows it to enter the bloodstream immediately. Our body loses the ability to reproduce its own hormones through the foods we eat, and this is usually through foods such as junk food, sugar refined foods, processed foods, smoking and drinking excessively, even prescription and recreational drugs. Annemarie is so confident about Naturone she has put all her efforts and time behind the product to market it here in Namibia. She says that Naturone is a natural progesterone, vegetable oil based cream. It is the first available all natural

progesterone cream available here in Walvis Bay as well as Namibia. The reason that many of us feel the way we do is that we have an imbalance in our bodies and that imbalance is caused by man-made synthetic chemicals and environmental pollutants known to be 'endocrine disruptors' causing hormonal imbalances. Referred to as Xeno-oestrogens, they mimic oestrogen and are causing imbalances between the body's oestrogen levels and progesterone levels because of their estrogenic effect in nature. Xeno-oestrogens are present in food, water and even the air. An excess of oestrogen in the body leads to many types of health problems such as, an increase in allergies, breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, infertility due to luteal phase failure, low

sperm count, depression, anxiety and panic attacks, mood swings, agitation, irritability, PMS, chronic fatigue, skin problems, teenage acne, loss of concentration, memory loss, irregular menstruation, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, migraine headaches and hair loss, just to name a few. Progesterone is the only antagonist to Oestrogen. It restores hormonal balance and eliminates the symptoms of oestrogen dominance, thus it is very beneficial for infertility, and maintaining healthy pregnancies, is instrumental in deactivating the cancer gene that is switched on by oestrogen, and it activates the protective gene that restores health to the cell. Therefore it protects against all cancers, it relieves depression, protects against Alzheimer's, helps restore thyroid hormone function and this is to just name a few. Naturone is a vegetable based cream that is supplied in a set of glass bottles with a convenient dispenser or phthalate-free jars with a ml spoon. The product isn't supplied in plastic as plastic also contains certain harmful chemicals. Naturone contains vitamin E, Glycerine, Grapefruit extract as a preservative, extra virgin

cold pressed macadamia oil, avocado oil and marula oil, a vegetable based emulsifier and deionized water. It is a natural product and does not contain any animal derivatives nor is it tested on animals. It can be used by all, irrespective of dietary, environmental or religious concerns. Een wen, een verloor vir Kudus! Leandrea Louw
