Advocate Erna Van Der Merwe, Deputy DirectorGeneral of the ACC, highlighted that the NACSAP 2021-2025wasapprovedbytheCabineton9December2021,andofficiallylaunchedbythePrimeMinister in March 2022. The Regional Forums, part of the governancestructuresunderthestrategy,arechairedby RegionalGovernorsandplayapivotalroleinensuring effectivestrategyimplementation.

NFCPT launches 12th National Fish Consumption Day
The Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) launched its 12th annual National Fish Consumption Day (NFCD) activities with the theme,'NourishingCommunities,Sustaining Future' on 2August in Walvis BayinhonouroftheHardapregionto raise sponsorship towards sport kits and prize medals for participating schoolnetballandsoccerteamsforthis year's NFCD sports activities in the Hardapregion.
NFCD is an annual celebration of the fishery sector, and adds as an avenue to promote fish consumptionandeducationinthehostregionand toraisesfundsforeducationaldevelopmentinthe host region including through procuring essentialsforschools.Thefirsteditionwaslaunchedin 2012 in Swakopmund, Erongo Region, and has sincebeenheldin11otherregionswithonlytwo regionsremainingtohosttheNFCD,namelyKavangoEastandOhangwenaregions. TheHardap region was selected as the host for the 2024 edition of NFCD. For this year's NFCD, school activations will take place from 27 August to 5 September which includes a netball and football tournament within the various settlements in the Hardap region, followed by the market day and semi-finalson20and21SeptemberinMariental. The fundraising gala dinner will take place in WalvisBayon30August. AtthelaunchedNFCD theTrusthandedoverN$50000toKuisebmond SecondarySchool(KSS)towardsthecompletion of the school hall. This donation is the second
contribution by the Trust to the KSS hall project, after a maiden 9 donation of N$50 000 in March 2023. The Trust has pledged to donate the same mounteveryyearuntiltheschoolhalliscompleted. Similarly, the Trust handed over 70 scientific calculatorsworthN$32602.50forGrade11learners at Daweb Senior Secondary School in the Hardap Region. The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Derek Klazen whose speech was delivered on his behalf by Erongo Governor, NevilleAndre, stated thatthegovernmentaimstoachieveatleast20kg offishconsumptionperpersonperyearandabout 100 000 metric tonnes of mackerel sold locally Klazen said the focus this year is on nourishing communities and sustaining the future through educating every Namibian on the benefits of consumingandmakingalivingfromfish."Aspartof promoting enterprise development, NFCPT launched theAgency Distribution Pilot Project on 19April 2024. The project aimed at collaborating withlocalbusinessesnationwidetoactasawholesale distributor, allowing community-based entrepreneurs to sell fish and fish products to sustain themselvesandtheircommunities.

The 11th Mining Expo & Conference began on 7August 2024, marked by the keynote address from Her Excellency Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Vice President of the Republic of Namibia. Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasised the crucial role of the mining industryinNamibia'seconomy,highlightingtheevent'stheme:“GreenShootsforNamibia's Mining Industry: A Season of Opportunity and Growth to Drive Economic Expansion.”
The Chamber of Mines, a cornerstone of Namibia's mining industry since 1969, has hosted the annual Mining Expo and Conference since 2010. This year, theeventsawrecordparticipationwith199exhibitors occupying317booths,asignificantincreasefromlast year's167exhibitorsand268booths.Thisrepresentsa 22.8%increaseinexhibitorsandan18.3%increasein booth uptake. Notably, the Expo attracted 22 companies from the SADC region and three international firms.The Expo aims to showcase Namibia's mining industrytostakeholdersandthepublic,identifybusinessopportunitiesinupstreamlinkages,andpromote careersinmining-relatedfields.TheChamberhasensured free participation for individuals, supported by exhibitor contributions and generous sponsorships, makingtheeventaccessibletoallNamibians.DrNandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the new growth and opportunitiesemergingintheminingsector Keydriversinclude a resurging uranium sub-sector, a new gold mine,growingpotentialintheoilandgassector,and strategic investments to extend the life of existing operations.“Namibia'simmediategrowthprospectsin mining lie in the uranium and gold sub-sectors,” she said, emphasising that Namibia is the world's thirdlargest producer of uranium, essential for sustainable and carbon-neutral energy production. Additionally, the upcoming
TwinHillsgoldproject,ownedbyOsinoResources,isset foracquisitionbyYinatiGold,pendingregulatoryapprovals. Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah also discussed the potential of Namibia'soilandgassectortosupportimportsubstitution within the mining sector “By completing the full value chain and refining our own oil, the mining industry and theNamibianeconomyatlargestandtobenefitfromconsumingdomesticallyproducedfuelatamuchlowercost,” shesaid.Shefurtheremphasisedtheimportanceoflocal contentandtheupcomingLocalContentPolicyinensuringNamibiansbenefitfromeverypartofthevaluechain. MVA Fund Urges Vigilance Amid Rising Road Accidents

As of 5 August 2024, Namibia has recorded 1 720 crashes, resulting in 3 153 injuries and 237 fatalities. ACC Reports Progress and Challenges at Annual Media Briefing
Duringthe2023/24financialyear,theAnti-CorruptionCommission (ACC) through its Erongo Regional Office investigated a total of 67 cases. Of these, two resulted in convictions, 41 are ongoing, and 18 have been forwarded to the Prosecutor-Generalforfurtherdecision-making.

AdvocateErnaVander Merwe, Deputy Director-General of the ACC, highlighted that sixofthe67caseswere closed due to either insufficient evidence or lackofconvictions.
Van der Merwe emphasised that over ten cases involved bribery, where officials were accused of soliciting money from service providers or the public in exchange for services. Van der Merwe also noted that many cases involve conflicts ofinterest,withallegations that public officials awarded tenders or services to relatives or disclosed classified information for personal gain. Other cases include embezzlement of funds meant for training institutions, falsepermitsforexpor-
tingcharcoal,andvarious local authority corruption allegations. MICT Announces Approval of Access to Information Regulations
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology(MICT)announcedthattheNationalAssemblyapprovedtheAccesstoInformationAct(ATI)No.8of2022RegulationsonTuesday,6August.
This approval marked a major step towards promoting transparency, accountability, and access to information in Namibia. Swakopmund long-distance road runner from Swakop Striders Andre Ross (52) won the 2024 Brandberg Backyard Ultra (BBU), forthe 3rd yearin a row with 22 laps (147 km) whilst Corne Verwey breaking reigning female Kirsty Brits' course record of 13 laps (87 km) in the women's section.
This years BBU held from2to5AugustinUis sawatotalof139runners entered, of which 53 for the full ultra, 53 for the challenge (up to 6 laps) and 32 did the 1 lap fun run Of the 42 ultra runners that started, 17 were ladies and 25 were men. Like all backyard ultras, runners had to completeafulllapofthe 6.7kmcourseeveryhour and be in the starting coral on top of the followinghourtobeable to continue their race.
Once a runner can't complete a lap of the course within the hour, theyhaveaDNFmarked next to their name and that is the end of their race, whilst the last personwhocancomplete a lap within the 1-hour time limit is crowned the winner Race Director Brandberg Backyard Ultra Riana Scholtz stated that it was for the third consecutive year,
