DAYS 4–5 I THIMPHU/PUNAKHA Admire intricate Bhutanese weavings at Thimphu’s Royal Textile Academy. Then travel to Punakha, the kingdom’s old capital, by way of the awe-inspiring Dochu La pass. Hike to the colorful Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten temple, overlooking the Punakha Valley, and explore the elaborately designed fortress of Punakha Dzong. DAYS 1–3 I B ANGKOK, THAILAND/ THIMPHU, BHUTAN After a night in Bangkok, travel to the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu. On a private tour of the city, visit the Folk Heritage Museum, a replica of a traditional farmhouse. Observe artists creating handmade paper at the Jungshi Paper Factory, and walk alongside local families to a 12th-century temple where newborn babies are blessed. DAYS 6–9 I PARO/BANGKOK, THAILAND Travel through the picturesque Paro Valley and visit Jangtsa Dumtseg Lhakhang, uniquely designed in the style of a chorten. Settle into your hotel that embodies Bhutanese architecture and spirituality. Visit the National Museum of Bhutan and the impressive Paro Dzong.
