HEPHAESTUS is the Greek name for the Roman god of the forge, Vulcan. Birmingham has the world’s largest iron statue, that of the Roman god, Vulcan. We named our Starfleet chapter the Hephaestus to give us ties to our city and to Star Trek, which has had its own Vulcan since 1966. Hephaestus forged armor and weapons for the gods. We create our own “armor and weapons” here, in our newsletter, so it is called The Anvil.

F r o m t h e R ea d y R o o m Greetings, November is here and it is time for Thanksgiving. I have a lot to be thankful for; a good wife, a loving family and all my friends in the Hephaestus. Thank you for allowing me to lead this great group of people through these past years. My hope is that we can do a lot more in the coming year that will be a blessing to us and those around us. I wish to express my sympathies to those who where touched by hurricane Sandy. My pray is that all will be put right quickly and those who need help will get it and that those who can help are able to give their time and talent to this bad situation. If you have any topics of interest you would like to see in the newsletter send your articles or updates to cohephaestus@bellsouth.net. As always see you around the ship, Capt. MarkAdam Miller cohephaestus@bellsouth.net
XO Briefing November is here and I’m wondering where the year has gone. When you read this we will have voted for our leader for the next four years. I hope you exercised your right and voted for the candidates of your choice. One item of business is our own election. That’s right. It’s time to elect the Second Officer and the Executive Committee. The election process will take place during the month of November. I will accept nominations for the positions through November 15. The voting process will take place November 16-30. Nominations may be emailed to me at booklady44@charter.net. But please, contact the person or persons you want to nominate before you do so to be sure they accept the nomination. MarkAdam and I are automatically on the Executive Committee so there’s no need to nominate us. You may also email your votes to the above address after November 15. Results will be announced in December. If you have any comments or questions please email me. Pat Hicks booklady44@charter.net

Ship’s Log October 13, .2012 –Table Games: We started off the meeting discussing the Region 2 Coordinator election. October was the nomination phase with two candidates up for nomination. The candidates were Jack Eaton, the incumbent and Cynthia Cook, the CO of the USS Poseidon. After a discussion, the crew voted to give the nomination to Jack Eaton and if the vote was taken then to also vote for Jack Eaton. We then proceeded to play Ticket to Ride. Ticket to Ride is a board game where up to 5 people try to build railroads across a USA map. The winner was Pete Mohney beating the CO and owner of the game MarkAdam Miller by one point. Attendance: 9 people. Personnel Updates: No personal updates were sent in by press time. If you have anything accomplishments you would like to share with the group please email them to me at: cohephaestus@bellsouth.net.
Starfleet Marine Corps Greetings, The 654th MSG is looking for members. There is a complete different set of Academy schools for those trying to get the Boothby awards. There is no pressure in joining, there are two categories: Active which means all ranks will be Marine ranks, and Reserve which mean you stay primary Fleet and only use Marine ranks when doing marine stuff. Contact Major General Neil Yawn if you are interested or have questions. Major General Neil Yawn, OIC 1 BN, 2BDE, OIC 654 MSG

This collection will have an extended version of “A Measure of a Man”, reunion of the cast for the 25th anniversary filmed in Calgary, Episodic Promos, Commentaries, deleted scenes and a gag reel. This is a must have for the seriouss Trekkie. The CO is looking for donations to help with his collection. Something for the Trekkie who has everything. So you think you have everything a Trekkie would want. Wel Welll then you have not been over to ThinkGeek lately. The ThinkGeek Geek people now have Tribble Slippers and Spock hand oven mitts. The Trib Tribble le slippers purr p when you walk and come with their own batteries. Also don’t worry worry; not a single hair of a Tribble ribble was harmed in making these the slippers. The oven mitts are in the shape of the Vulcan salute with the commander rank sleeve on the wrist.
Anniversaries If you missed it as I did, September marked 4 anniversaries for Star Trek. 1. 2. 3. 4.
25 years of Star Trek the Next generation 46 years of Star Trek 11 years of Enterprise 4 years since the close of Star Trek the Experience in Las Vegas.
So that makes three happy ones and one sad one. I hhope pe that I will at least be able to celebrate another 25 years with Star Trek.
