Editor’s Desk Dear Readers, The emergence of Managed print services (MPS) is one of the biggest boosts for the printer market in recent times. MPS have given printer vendors—for long used to competing on hardware—more room for innovation and differentiation. The obvious attraction for MPS clients is the initial cost savings that come with switching to a usage-based model rather than investing upfront in hardware. MPS helps organisations achieve savings through consolidation of devices and scale. These services basically include optimisation of purchases by matching the correct speed segment and technology to an organisation’s utilisation need. This helps the organisation to lower the print cost per page and strain on the equipment, thereby reducing downtime. In India, many processes are still manual and paper-based, therefore MPS is taking time to see greater adoption. However, there is a big wave coming from digitisation and management of records, which is likely to push the uptake of MPS. Industry experts feel that for digitisation to take off in a big way, organisations will first need to overcome the challenges of dealing with confusion over the way they take it up. Sometimes, the cost of digitisation is prohibitive and requires expert guidance. Another reason is resistance of the employees to change.

Color refilling is about 10% to 20% of all our refilling,

and is growing faster. Demand for color consumables particularly on inks side is increasing fast. Our customers come mainly from NCR and western UP. Earlier, business has been stagnant for several years but now things started getting better and we are registering an annual Mr. Vikas Gandhi growth of 15-20%. We also trade in bulk inks from Hind Laser.” Regarding GST and future plans, Kamal Gandhi comments, “So far GST has not contributed to increase in our business or revenues, but on the other hand paper work, accountancy work has increased a lot taking a good deal of time and effort putting additional burden on us. People hope GST may be good in future bringing transparency into business and remove multiple taxation. Let us hope it will be good for future. Though market has been dull for the last few years, our annual growth has been satisfactory. But there has been a slump in sales in the last 3 months due to GST implementation. We hope Mr. T RAJESH GST will be good for future, but as of now there are a lot of complexities in the GST law and the government needs to make many reforms for the law to be beneficial to the business community and the end customers. In some cases, taxation is too much making the goods costlier for the end users. Regarding future plans, we want to increase our sales in a steady manner. We have a well-knit network of 350 dealer and retail partners. Our main motivations to our partners are good price and friendly, long-term relationships.”

24

compatible cartridges, toners, inks. We offer good quality products, maintain transparent policies and work with clients based on trust and long-term relationships. We also do ink cartridge refilling and refill nearly 250 ink cartridges a month. We want to develop our business further.” GST is a hot topic today that is affecting all the businesses. In this regard Sharmaa reveals, “The recent GST laws seems good in concept, but there are a lot of issues as the present law lacks clarity of definition for different products & services. In some cases, there are different tax slabs for different products—machines, peripherals and parts, which is causing lots of confusions while defining as well as while taxing, besides making some products unusually costly. GST needs to create a tax structure as uniform as possible and as reasonable as possible. Then only it will benefit the business community and the consumers.”

Metrofuser’s Flash-It Restores Life to HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow M880 Transfer Kits

Laser printer parts manufacturer Metrofuser has introduced the Flash-It Tool, a new solution that extends the life of the transfer belt, saving service companies thousands of dollars. The HP LaserJet M880 Series transfer belts are programmed to trip off a replacement message, “REPLACE TRANSFER KIT” at 120,000 pages. The only way to remove that message and restore the life cycle was to purchase a costly new transfer kit. The Flash-It Tool will set the transfer kit life to 100% and clear the “REPLACE TRANSFER KIT” message. This allows you to reuse the existing transfer kit far beyond the 120k pages that HP dictates. One of the benefits of the tool is that you can flash the life cycle at any point. You don’t have to wait for the message. You can flash and synchronize fleets allowing scheduled maintenance rather than crisis management. The ETB Flash Tool performs unlimited flashes, saving companies thousands of dollars in consumables and service calls. It is excellent for MPS environments, allowing for maximization of consumables. It is easy to use, comes with instructions and is backed by toll-free U.S.-based tech support.

Delco Copier Acquires Distribution Rights from Big Brands Recently, Delco Copier acquired authorized distribution rights for big brands like Canon, Kyocera and Samsung. The company aims to further expand their imaging & office automation products range with more distributorship added to their list. Delco Copier has been constantly endeavoring to achieve total customer satisfaction through quality. Under the expert management of Sanjeev Chaudhary, Proprietor, Delco Copier been able to expand faster in their distribution of imaging and office automation products of big brands, while developing their own brand Delco, within a short period of time. The company has been able to set new benchmarks in this sector.

Mr. Sanjeev Chaudhary Proprietor, Delco Copier New Delhi-based Delco Copier is involved in offering a wide range of office automation equipment and compatible products like toners, drums, web rollers, chips and crums, fixing films, lamination rollers and pouches, lamination machines, films, cartridges, black and color inks & toners, etc since 2007, under their brand name Delco. The company also provides OEM cartridges, toners, inks, etc, besides compatibles. The latest developments at Delco are that the company took authorized distributorship for Canon A4, Kyocera printers and copiers, Samsung A3 printers; and OEM inks of Epson and Canon. Sanjeev Chaudhary, Proprietor, Delco Copier clarifies, “Since our inception in 2007, we have been able to achieve many landmarks in the field of providing imaging & office automation products. The new distribution rights we acquired for brand new machines of Canon, Kyocera and Samsung are expected to boost our business operations further. After GST, our sales for printers as well as for consumables started increasing rapidly, with every businessman now wants to print bills or something related to taxation. There are some problems and confusions with GST definitions and billing, but they are temporary and will be solved soon. After the launch of GST, the A4 printers are selling very well in the last three months (July-Aug-Sep 2017). The government officers are also now shifting from A3 to A4 size fromat and this has further boosted the demand for MFPs. We see GST as a good step in bringing order and transparency into the business.” Delco Copier possesses an excellent warehousing facility equipped with the latest

40

machines and with the right temperature and humidity controls for better protection and preservation of the goods. The company has been constantly endeavoring to achieve total customer satisfaction through impeccable quality and user-friendly designs. “We offer a wide range of cartridges that includes inkjet cartridges, laser toner cartridges, copier toner cartridges, etc for several brands and models; and we offer premium quality products at affordable prices. Our relationships with partners are for long-term, based on trust and credibility. We procure only from quality-proven traders and leading OEM suppliers. Delco brand cartridges, ink as well as laser, provide high quality prints,” added Sanjeev. Talking about their company’s ethics, Sanjeev comments, “I believe in training my employees and even my children from the basics. Whenever my children come to office, I never let them straight away feel that they are the owner’s kids. Rather, I would ask them to go to the warehouse, locate a particular product and bring it down to me. Such actions help them to realize how workers work and help them understand things from the basics, the pains and the gains. That is an important step while raising successful future entrepreneurs.” “We are going to add machine parts of more brands and models in the coming months to our product baskets. We are also expanding more into inkjet printer segment by providing both black and color inks and compatible cartridges under our Delco brand. Color usage is increasing very fast in general, and is increasing much faster than color laser toner due to latest innovations

that led cost-effective printing with inks. Last year, color ink consumption of our products has increase by almost 40%, whereas the increase on laser toner side has been much less. In general, MFD usage is growing much faster nowadays, compared to copiers. Last year, our color segment business for machines and consumables put together has grown by 100% (or doubled). Overall, our business is growing at an annual rate of 25%,” elaborated Sanjeev. Increasing business complexity, cutthroat competition, dynamic market environments and decreasing margins are putting extra pressure on the providers who are trying to find new strategies to cope up with the changing market conditions, to survive and prosper in the trade. Regarding present challenges and future plans, Sanjeev elaborates, “Our future plans include expanding business further by adding more products in our portfolio range. We import raw materials from the standard providers in China, Hong Kong and Singapore. We operate pan-India though most our customers come from North, North-East and Central India regions. We want to focus more on the recent distribution rights we have acquired to increase our operations and activities in the coming months. My message to all the imaging industry players is ‘our imaging industry is quite technical, but unfortunately it is poorly organized and most of the players and their staff are poorly educated and trained.’ There is an urgent need to educate the partners in the industry and take measures to establish strong imaging industry associations to educate, train and organize the industry.”

Single Pass Inkjet Printing:

The Future of Printing !! Splashjet is glad to be part of this revolution. We are closely cooperating with the industrial single pass system manufacturers for development of inks for various applications such as labels, variable data printing, digital dĂŠcor printing. Mr. Shishir Khedkar CEO, Splashjet Print Technologies

It has been almost 35-years since Inkjet printers have been around. With passage of time, inkjet printers have evolved quite a lot. However, the presence of inkjet printers has been mainly limited to the niche applications such as photography, personalized gifting & wide format printing applications such as drafting. All these years, HCP market is dominated by electro-photography (laser) technology. Features such as faster printspeeds, reliable print mechanism, sharp and crisp output have helped laser technology maintain the market share. The technical advancement in the inkjet technology was continuously going on. Driven by myriad of industrial applications ranging from printing on ceramics, labels, variable data printing to digital textile printing, significant advances were made in reliability and performance of inkjet printing. Robust print-heads, high quality inks, sophisticated drive electronics all contributed to acceptance of inkjet technology to mainstream. Let us understand the concept of single pass inkjet systems first. All of us have seen the inkjet printers with print-head coming back and forth during printing. This technology of printing media, by using lateral movement of print-head, is called scanning mode printing. Usually printing is done using multiple passes of print-head over the print area. In the Single pass mode, the print-head covers the width of the print media. The picture below will elucidate the concept. In a HP PageWide Printer video on YouTube, Dr. Ross R. Allen shows the first

42

page-wide print-head developed by HP in 1991. He notes the technology to build cost-effective & reliable printers around the print-head didn’t exist. HP did a lot of work to build these components. Their long-term goal was to bring fast, page-wide printing to everything from office printers to commercial printing presses. Now It’s time, single pass inkjet is knocking on the doors of the home-turf of laser printers. It is indeed interesting to compare the single pass inkjet printer performance with the mainstream laser printers. Average print speed of laser printers

has been in the range of 45 to 50 ppm. Single pass inkjets have been easily able to offer the print speeds in the range of 60 to 75 ppm. Print resolution of the laser printers is generally limited to 1200 dpi. Though inkjet printers typically have higher resolution in the range of 2400 dpi, it results into lower print speeds. Acquisition costs of single pass inkjet systems have been quite comparable with laser printers. With increased acceptance and more number of players, the costs are

expected to decrease further. General duty cycle of the laser printers is better than the inkjet systems as of now. If we move on and compare the print costs, laser prints and inkjets are almost at a similar level for color prints. For black and white prints, the inkjet has a definite advantage over the laser prints. Most OEMs have launched high yield cartridges with print duty cycles ranging into thousands of pages. This makes single pass inkjet printers attractive to the users. Laser printers deliver excellent results with plain papers. Inkjet printers need coated papers for delivering better results. However, the coated media is quite economical. Inkjet printers typically consume much less power as compared to the laser printers. However single pass inkjet technology still has a few limitations. It is quite a challenge to address the clogging of nozzles. Missing nozzles may create unwanted artifacts on the prints. With the advent of sophisticated hardware and reliable inks, these problems are being addressed. Acceptance of business inkjet printers is increasing across the industry. Supported by the ink tank printers, the sales figures of inkjet devices are indicating up trend. The number of pages printed per device has been steadily increasing for inkjet devices. This indicates a healthy trend of more utilization per device. It is the beginning of new era where inkjet is getting into mainstream and single pass inkjet devices are at the forefront of this transition.
