LD Products, World’s Largest Online Aftermarket Cartridge Retailer, Opens Channel Partner Division LD Products is proud to announce the launch of their new Channel Partner Division. CEO Aaron Leon, along with division president Christian Pepper, has assembled a team of aftermarket cartridge experts to take on the changing reseller market. Based in Phoenix, the team is headed by Pepper, an industry thought leader with 20 years of expertise. Pepper believes an immediate demand for OEM and remanufactured cartridge alternatives stems from hiring trusted industry professionals who can e d u c a t e dealers to make informed decisions on their toner c h o i c e s . In today’s hypercompetitive global marketplace, a low cost, reliable toner solution that serves the business reseller market is needed more than ever. “As OEMs continue to drop their toner prices in exchange for valuable consumer reporting data, dealers are looking for alternative cartridge options to stay aggressive,” says Mr. Pepper, president of the division. “Remanufactured cartridges have become increasingly less profitable for contracted resellers. LD’s new build compatible GOLD line of commercial grade toner products offer resellers a disruptive OEM quality alternative for 20% less than remanufactured cartridges, allowing for much-needed competition in a consolidating market.”

Canon to double output of chipmaking equipment

Canon looks to increase production of machinery used to form integrated circuits on silicon wafers, helping customers meet booming chip demand as the so-called internet of things brings a wide variety of

devices online. Two facilities north of Tokyo that manufacture photolithography systems are to be expanded in the latter half of 2018. Output capacity is expected to grow 50-

100%, though specific production and investment figures have not been made public. Plans are to roughly double output in 2018 compared with 2017. Canon is the world’s No. 3 maker of photolithography equipment, behind ASML of the Netherlands and Japan’s Nikon. While the two market leaders handle such cuttingedge technologies as immersion lithography and extreme-ultraviolet lithography systems, which can create some of the smallest circuits available, Canon focuses on lower-cost i-line and deep-UV systems. The planned expansion will increase output of these lower-end technologies, which account for an estimated 60% of the market by volume. A growing number of semiconductor makers are reaching for such equipment as a bevy of networked devices hit the market. Growth in the “internet of things” is pushing companies to produce a wide variety of sensors and communications chips in relatively small quantities. Canon will also feed the market for legacy machinery, modifying certain equipment to accept 200mm silicon wafers and other largely supplanted substrates. Machinery that can process such wafers is in severely short supply in the market for used equipment.

P R O DU C T R O UND UP UniNet Unveils Toner Developers for Use in Most Popular Ricoh Aficio Models UniNet unveils toner developers for use in the most popular Ricoh Aficio models such as 2020, 2018, 2016, 2015, MP 9002, 8000, 7500, 6500, 5500, 4500, 3350, 2552, 2500 / MP 5002, 5001, 5000, 4500, 4002, 4001, 4000, 3500, and 1515, MP 301, 201, 171, 161 and much more. Businesses related with the printing industry are usually familiar with toner and its function. However, some printers require a secondary component called developer. The developer plays a big role as it is part of a dual component system. The two components work hand in hand to provide dark crisp images. That is why it’s important to keep in mind the benefits of replacing developer in printer/copier cartridges periodically to keep the quality and performance of printers/copiers at their best. Keeping developer fresh by replacing it at the appropriate recommended yield will help to avoid such issues as background, light prints, and will prevent toner dusting. It will also maintain high density to print darker blacks and crisp images.

P R O DU C T R O UND UP Safehouse Signs Expands High-end Capabilities and Drives Efficiency with EFI VUTEk LED Printer

RISO Inc. New High-Speed Digital Duplicator SF9490 Delivers Both Speed and Resolution

Safehouse Signs has boosted its throughput and quality, adding LED digital inkjet production with an EFI VUTEk GS2000LX Pro wide-format printer from Electronics For Imaging Inc. The new investment at Roanoke, VA-based Safehouse Signs is one of the many major upgrades in technology and infrastructure under owner Kevin Hudson, a veteran financial services executive who purchased the 40-year-old company late last year.“We were looking for capabilities we didn’t have, and the new VUTEk is much faster and prints at higher resolutions than our other digital equipment,” Hudson said. “As a manufacturer, it is important for us to offer a wide range of products to our distributor partners. The capabilities of this new printer help us do that, plus it creates new growth opportunities with higher-end specialty graphics and point-of-purchase displays.” Safehouse supplemented its existing printer line-up with the new printer purchase, a two-meter wide hybrid device that can run both rolls and flat/rigid materials. The company is now benefitting from the higher consistency and throughput the printer provides. Plus, the printer’s “cool cure” LED technology offers lower operating costs, as it uses less energy for curing or drying compared with other digital devices at Safehouse. The LED technology also expands the range of compatible substrates Safehouse can print on, including thin or specialty substrates that cannot withstand the heat of other drying or curing methods.“The versatility this printer gives us in terms of both materials and print quality is eye opening,” according to Hudson. “There is a lot we can do with this printer. We took sample signs produced on the printer to the National Safety Council Show and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees who were interested in our expanded capabilities.”

RISO Inc. announces the North American release of the company’s latest advance in digital duplicating, the SF9490 Digital Duplicator. RISO’s newest cut-sheet digital duplicator produces high-volume documents quickly, easily, and economically at an unrivaledspeed of up to 190 pages per minute (11,400 impressions per hour, including 11×17” sheet size). It is engineered for use in a wide range of printing environments, such as corporate, manufacturing and educational settings. Combining true 600×600 dpi image quality with ultra-fast printing speeds, the RISO SF9490 produces sharp, clear images, even with fine lines and small characters. A large, interactive touchscreen panel enables easy review and point-of-printing editing of documents. Multiple image modes allow for the best duplication of your original, and the RISO iQuality System ensures optimum print quality and easy supply management. Swappable color cylinders provide over 70 available colors to choose from. The SF9490 also accommodates a wide range of paper weights and types, allowing you a range of options for your output. RISO’s SF9490 is ENERGY STAR compliant, using 95% less power than a toner-based system. Digital duplicators are more efficient than toner-based systems for larger print runs, so the bigger the job, the lower the overall cost per print. The device utilizes a new, environmentally-friendly formulation of ink, which dries instantly and is suitable for archive use. The SF9490 Digital Duplicator is now available from RISO and their sales channel network worldwide.

HP LaserJet Enterprise CP4025, CP4525, M651, M680MFP 13.20.00 Jam Right Door

The listed printers may produce a 13.20.00 ‘jam in right front door’ error code. While there may be no paper visible, this is usually caused by a dislodged tray 1 pickup roller cover which disrupts proper positioning of the duplex refeed sensor flag. This can be determined by simply checking the roller access cover to make sure it is locked in proper position. This also can be determined by entering the DIAGNOSTICS MENU and selecting the MANUAL SENSOR TEST – this will show sensor “E” with a position of “1” instead of position of “0”.

Remanufacturing the Brother HL L8360 Series Toner Cartridges TN-431/436 Color Toner Cartridges

By Mike Josiah and the Technical Staff at Uninet

t

he Brother HL-L8360 printer engine is based on a 33 ppm black and color, 2400 x 600 DPI color LED engine. The machines come standard with 512Mb of memory, and all run off a 800 MHz processor. All models come standard with duplex built in and some have wireless interfaces. With print speeds of up to 33ppm and street pricing starting at $399.00, these machines have become very popular. The toner cartridges do not have a reset chip on them, but do have a reset gear that must be positioned properly for the machine to accept it as a new cartridge. The proper reset position of the gear will be covered later in this instruction. If you look at the stated yields by region below, you’ll see that there are different yields sometimes dramatically so. Each yield group will have a different reset gear. starter cartridges do not come with a reset gear. Any starter cartridge can be converted to a STD, HY or EHY cartridge. In different areas of the world different yields are available so there is not a separate color reset gear nor a separate black reset gear. Below is a chart of which

28

cartridges are used in what location, the part numbers and yield. The gear that should be used for each is indicated by the yield. North, South, Central, America Region (USA Brother.com) SY = TN431 C/M/Y (1,800 pages) SY = TN431 BK (3,000 pages) HY = TN433 BK (4,500 pages) HY = TN433 C/M/Y (4,000 pages) SHY = TN436 BK (9,000) pages) SHY = TN436 C/M/Y (6,500 pages) European Region (UK Brother.com) SY = TN421 BK (2,500 pages) SY = TN421 C/M/Y (1,500 pages) HY = TN423 BK (6,500 pages) HY = TN423 C/M/Y (4,000 pages) SHY = TN426 BK (9,000) pages) SHY = TN426 C/M/Y (6,500 pages) Asia, Oceania Region (HK Brother.com) SY = TN441 BK (3,000 pages) SY = TN441 C/M/Y (1,800 pages) HY = TN443 BK (4,500 pages) HY = TN443 C/M/Y (4,000 pages) SHY = TN446 BK (6,500 pages) SHY = TN446 C/M/Y (6,500 pages)

Asia, Oceania Region (Australia Brother. com) SY = TN441 BK (3,000 pages) SY = TN441 C/M/Y (1,800 pages) HY = TN456 BK (6,500 pages) HY = TN456 C/M/Y (6,500 pages) UHY = TN459 BK/C/M/Y (9000 pages) When the printer senses a new toner cartridge, the printer bias voltage is set to a specific high voltage. As the cartridge is used, the bias voltage is reduced gradually down to a lower voltage. This process is necessary because according to Brother, a new toner cartridge has a tendency to print light. As the cartridge is used, the density increases (Lower voltage = higher density). To keep the density level even throughout its life, the density bias voltage is reduced accordingly. Each time a new cartridge is installed, the reset gear engages the gear train. The rib on the reset gear pushes down on the new toner sensor. The bias voltage is then reset, and the cartridge page count is reset to zero. All three cartridges have different stages set for the bias voltage, that’s why there are three different gears.

t e c h ta l k While the cartridge yield is stated in pages printed, it actually is based on the revolutions of the developer roller. The larger the run, the better the yield. There are roller cycles for every print job and automatic ones too. There is the warm-up cycle, color registration cycle, developer bias cycle etc. As these cycles are normally run once per job, the bigger the print job, the better the yield. There are multiple revolutions for each cycle and some will run upon turning the printer on or opening the front cover. They can range from 35 rotations to as much as 262 rotations for each function so you can see how they can add up quickly. Brother has charts that cover different sized print jobs and how they relate to the total effective yield. 16) Vacuum/blow the doctor blade. We do not recommend that the doctor blade be removed as the developer roller felt seals will be disturbed. Once a new blade is available, great care will have to be taken not to tear the seals causing a leak. The doctor blade can be easily cleaned by blowing the excess toner off, and wiping down with a lint free cloth. Be very careful not to leave any lint behind and do not use any chemicals to clean it! See Figure 16

Quality is our main principle, but high quality also costs more. In a market like India, which is highly pricesensitive, selling high-quality products which cost more than market price is a challenge, but we are meeting this challenge with confidence. However, now the customers are becoming more mature and quality-conscious and are ready to a pay little more for better quality, who were earlier simply wanted low-priced products irrespective of quality. We have a wide network of trusted channel partners across India through whom we reach the end customers.” Mangaldip procures their products from standard and qualityproven providers. Mangaldip also provides Copy Printer Ink of Riso and Gestetnener brands. Mangaldip’s technical and sales teams strive to provide the products of the best and latest quality to offer the best customer satisfaction. The company follows stringent quality control procedures and maintains a state-ofthe-art warehouse to offer the right quality and ensure timely delivery of products. Regarding their main selling points

and future plans, Rupesh Dalmia adds, “As I said, our main USPs are good quality, prompt availability and attractive price. Any new OEM consumable once comes into the market, we immediately keep them ready at our warehouse so that the products are always available and we can supply at short notice without delays. Also we maintain a wide range of products in our stock. Our focus is on pan-India market. We want to launch our own brand in the coming months for compatible laser toners and laser cartridges. This year we want to focus on our own brand (soon to be launched). Once we launch our new brand, we want to increase our dealer network across India. We promote through different methods including word of mouth and thru personal visits to the dealers. We maintain strong and cordial relationships with our channel partners. The GST law announced recently is good and our business has improved after the implementation. We are able to operate across the states with the problems of multiple taxations and documentations.”

iQ Aims to Open Branch Office in Kolkata, Expand Dealer Network, Increase Imports Mr. A.M.R. Joshi CEO, Delhi Copier

D

elhi Copier, led by its CEO, A.M.R. Joshi, is a New Delhi-based provider of laser printer & copier consumables including drums, primary charging rollers, magnet rollers, compatible laser toner and copier cartridges for all major brands, under their brand name iQ. They also provide a wide range of office equipment including lamination machines and consumables. Joshi had nearly two decades of imaging industry experience before launching their iQ brand in 2012. Joshi states, “In the last five years, our iQ brand picked up well and we have been getting regular calls from dealers from across India. On pan-India basis, we have over 350 dedicated dealers through whom we reach the end customers. We want to focus more on imports from now on. We import quality products from a selected set of manufacturers in China. We sell our own branded products and also sell in bulk which others can purchase and sell under their own brand names. Right now, we are strong in North and North East India regions and Karnataka state in South India. This year, we want to increase the number of partners particularly in the East and South India regions where we want to increase our presence. Besides quality, we also focus on timely delivery, ready availability of products and better service. We have high quality compatible consumables for

34

all major brands including Xerox, Canon, Brother, Ricoh, Panasonic, Sharp, Kyocera, Konica Minolta, Toshiba, etc. Overall, we are growing at 15%-20% annual growth rate.” Standing on the firm ground of experience and expertise, Delhi Copier has emerged as one of the prominent brand names for providing the office equipment and imaging products. Delhi Copier is also a prominent importer, trader, supplier, wholesaler and distributor of a wide array of office equipment such as lamination machines, spiral binding machines, paper cutters, etc. Joshi adds, “Among toners, black toner is the main selling item for us. Color toner forms just 10% of our total sales at present, but demand for color toner is growing fast. In next 3 years, we expect the share of color toner to reach 40% of our toner sales.” iQ brand products are widely used in government organizations, MNCs and other private sector organizations. Delhi Copier lays special emphasis on meeting the needs of the customers. At iQ, they channelize all their efforts to provide superlative products. As a value addition, they focus strongly on providing good service. Joshi clarifies, “We try our best to provide products of impeccable quality and reliability. This drastically reduces the failures and snags in the equipment. Compared to the good quality we provide,

our products are reasonably priced. Before we select a manufacturer, we visit their factory and R&D department, study their manufacturing processes and R&D methods closely. If we are satisfied from all angles, then only we select them as our provider.” Delhi Copier’s services also include providing the customers with user manuals and giving installation and operation training. Delhi Copier has a spacious and well-equipped warehouse to keep their office equipment and other products in right-segregation and protection. Regarding GST, the latest trends in the market and their future plans, Joshi adds, “The recent GST law turned out to be good for us as we could streamline payments and receivables better and our business has improved in the last 4 months. The negative trend in the market is margins are coming down due to high competition. Several distributors, selling low-quality products at cheap rates, are upsetting the market operating price. But we believe quality will win in the end. On our expansion side, soon we are going to open our branch office in Kolkata to bolster sales in the east and north east market. In future, we want to increase our presence in South and West India regions, which are potential markets. We want to promote our iQ brand more aggressively across the country through different channels.”

Now I have evolved enough to take some key decisions in our day to day business operations. I believe in the adage, ‘We Don’t Grow When Things Are Easy, We Grow When We Face Challenges’. Having an MBA degree in FMB (Family Managed Business) has helped me foresee & analyze and bring out optimal solutions to different issues. In the next 5 years, I want JET TEC Group to be recognized as a brand which is not only a mere substitute for OEMs but also a trend setter of our industry for providing best Printing Solutions.”

timely and efficient manner. Q-Cartridge has a well-equipped in-house quality testing department where their team of experienced quality controllers assures that only premium quality materials are offered to customers. Regarding challenges and the latest trends in the imaging industry and their promotional schemes, Vishvesh Gilda shares, “Presently, we operate across Mr. Vishvesh Gilda India. The main challenge we are facing Partner, Cartridgewala is the flood of low-quality products that are being dumped into India and due to this product quality is coming down and customers are tempted to purchase cheaper products without any regard for quality. The government and the industry should aggressively pursue methods to implement BIS and curb these lowquality goods in the market. We import mainly from the proven providers from China and offer high quality products at competitive prices and supply products promptly to the customer’s door-step. However, our products are not cheap, but they are value-for-money products, as we maintain good quality.” Recently Q-Cartridge launched special incentive scheme for their partners, according to which if a partner purchases from them products of Q-Cartridge. This offer is valid on buying Q-Cartridge branded imaging consumables from 1 December, 2017 to 31 March, 2018. To qualify for a fully paid Bangkok trip in April/May one has to buy Q-cartridge branded products of at

Mr. Vishvesh Gilda, Partner, Cartridgewala least 3 lak per month. The target is based on gross purchase excluding GST and the offer cannot be cashed out. The offer is not valid on OEM and bulk pack purchase. With their focus on high quality products & services and consistency, Cartridgewala plans to widen their business operations and widen their dealer network across India as a part of their expansion drive. Regarding GST, current trends and future plans, Mr. Gilda concludes, “GST is good as it helps to avoid multi-taxation and documentation. Now doing business across state borders has become easy and our business is growing well. It has made the business operations more organized, but it needs some modifications to be more effective and business-friendly. Currently we are growing at an annual rate of 25%. In future, we want to maintain good growth rate, expand our partner network into North-East India and establish Q-Cartridge as a reputed brand across India for compatible cartridges and powders. We are confident that the soonto-be launched ink products will boost our business further.”
