Editor’s Desk Dear Readers, With managed print services (MPS), you can gain visibility and control of your entire document environment. This goes way beyond reducing printing and paper usage. Just as your business is always evolving, managed print services and managed document services continue to evolve to help organisations meet the information challenges of today and tomorrow. However, as MPS has evolved over the years, it also includes electronic information and workflows. This is why MPS and MDS are so closely linked. Although overall print volumes are down, the widespread use of tablets and smart phones has created additional complexity in the print environment. IT organisations need a strategy to provide access to print from mobile devices without compromising security. Print management is clearly still important, plus you need to manage ever-increasing amounts of information and data from many different sources. That’s why smart managed print services optimises and streamlines processes and workflows, along with managing your print fleet.

We overcome this challenge, because those customers who are associated with us have confidence in our services, as we provide quality remanufacturing and quality laser printer repair services. Our remanufactured cartridges have near-OEM quality and give near-OEM output. GST has been good for us and our business has increased significantly after the launch of GST. We are satisfied with our growth and are looking forward to a good future.”

So we are focusing on select regions and partners where they value quality. We have customers spread pan-India, but most of business comes from South India. Right now we have around 25 potential partners. We import mainly from South Korea, Hong Kong and Germany. Good quality and affordable price are our main selling points. We also have an office in Dubai. GST has been very good because it has eliminated many competitors who have been operating in the gray market and helped the players like us who operate in white. In future, we want to add more customers to our list, strengthen our brand presence and expand our operations pan-India. By mid-2019, we want to launch our own manufacturing plant in India.”

Metrofuser announced new technology to improve aftermarket toner cartridge performance.
Laser printer parts manufacturer Metrofuser announced new technology to improve aftermarket toner cartridge performance. The popularity of aftermarket toner continues to rise as consumers have started to accept OEM alternatives as a cheaper, viable option. In recent years,
however, some of the toner particulate used to refill these cartridges have seen a greater degree of variables, whether it be size, coarseness or melting point when compared to original equipment manufacturer toner. These variables sometimes cause image defects, such as blurred print and poor toner adhesion.Metrofuser developed its high variant fuser technology to be more tolerant to the variables of modern aftermarket toner
particulate. High variant (HV) fusers have tuned thermal and pressure properties which allow greater tolerance and perform better with today’s high variable toner particulate. While conventional fusers are tested and benchmarked against a single OEM or a single brand of toner, Metrofuser’s HV fusers are tested with multiple toner brands. Extensive A/B testing with imported and domestic aftermarket toner show that HV Fusers are more tolerant to the variances of modern toner and offer better print. HV Fusers even rival the image quality of the OEM fusers using aftermarket toner.

Canon U.S.A launches Océ Touchstone dimensional printing software
Canon U.S.A., Inc. announced the launch of Océ Touchstone dimensional printing software, positioned for large format print solutions to streamline dimensional printing on the company’s industry-leading Océ Arizona Series UV flatbed printers. Until now, creating these dimensional prints tended to be a laborious process involving significant file manipulation and iterative testing performed by the print provider. As a result, few end users are aware that this is even possible, let alone request this type of printing. To simplify this labor intensive workflow, Canon has tailored specific solutions to meet the needs of the two parties involved in the process: the designer who creates the files and the print provider that prints them. Utilizing the highly accurate ink drop placement and repetition provided by Océ Arizona UV curable flatbed printers, resourceful print providers have been able to print multiple layers of ink and produce dimensional effects ranging from common textures such as woodgrain to special effects such as varnish highlights, embossed type and logos, or even braille.“Our commitment to our customers and the drive to expand our large format capabilities, has led to the development of the Océ Touchstone Dimensional Printing Software,” said Toyotsugu Kuwamura, executive vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A. Inc. “We are thrilled to introduce this simple solution that will help print providers improve their workflow and create new possibilities for both their organizations and their customers.”

Patel Traders, Provider of Protective Packaging Airbags, Launches Chip Resetter under Brand Unismart 3 Patel Traders has first manufacturing unit of this kind of airbags in India and at present they have no potential competitors. Also, launches chip resetter under the brand name Unismart 3, using which the chips in the cartridges can be reset.
Mr. Mahesh Patel
P
atel Traders, an Ahmedabad-based company, manufactures and provides protective airbags for protective-packaging of different kinds of products from different industry segments, including cartridges from the imaging industry, under their brand name Airpack. The company is led by the competent duo of professionals, Jayendra Patel and Mahesh Patel. Jayendra Patel shares, “We manufacture airbags and supply for our customers spread pan-India. When the products are packed us in these airbags, they protect the productsfrom the damage during transportation, storage and manual handling. Ours plant is the first manufacturing unit of this kind of airbags in India and at present we have no potential competitors. We manufacture eight sizes of such airbags. Chinese manufacturers are our main competitors, but compared to Chinese products, our products offer better customer-ease and affordability. In India, customers want smaller quantities—which we fulfill and charge as per the desired smaller quantities, whereas Chinese provide only for bulk orders often in quantities of 2000 units. In the imaging segment, our main focus ison the remanufacturers who need these protective 32
airbags in large quantities. Good quality, shape and design are the main features of our products and also these are the features our consumers desire. We supply our products directly to the customers; right now we are not employing any partners. If a consumer wants airbags of specific sizes and specs, we will manufacture according to their specs. Our airbags are receiving wider acceptance from companies like Amazon, for packaging IT and lifestyle products. We are already in discussion with Walmart which is expected to become our customer soon. We see a great demand in future.” Regarding their current market share and the future sales targets, Jayendra, explains, “We are aiming to capture 50% marketshare in India in the coming years. There is a price game in this part of the industry. In our case, being domestic manufacturers, we can save on import duty and transfer that advantage to our customers—this is our main advantage. We deliver the ordered products very fast, within 24 hrs for local customers and within four days to farthest customers in India. Our customers are spread pan-India: 35% from South India, 30% from North, 20% from West and 10% from East. Also our customers spread across a wide variety of industries and segments, with about 10% from imaging industry. At present, we are the only domestic provider of airbags in India, we have no domestic competitor in our segment. We are also exporting to other countries like UK, Bulgaria, etc. We hope to increase our exports as well as domestic sales in the coming years.” With regard to quality policy, Mahesh Patel comments, “With us everything is open. If a customer wants high quality, he will get it at a price. If he wants products at average
quality and average price, then also we will provide him accordingly.Currently, we are growing at an annual rate of 20%-25%. In the coming year, we want to start another manufacturing unit with much larger capacity of production under Make in India scheme. The GST, that has minimized cumbersome inter-state formalities, has been a good development for us as we operate across state borders.” Recently, Patel Traders launched chip resetter under the brand name Unismart 3, using which the chips in the cartridges can be reset. Talking about this, Mahesh Patel comments, “At present, after using the cartridge, the chip is discarded, but using our Unismart 3 Apex Chip Programmer the chip can be reset and used again which will help the user to save at least 40% of the cost, compared to buying a new chip. We are expecting a good market for this product in the coming months and years.” Unismart boxes are highly useful for programming, resetting and testing cartridge chips. Currently, equipped with constantly renewed pre-embedded programs, this chip resetter can program, reset and test not only Unismart chips, but also reset and test OEM chips.

Ashish states, “Our Zigma brand provides high quality products that give high page yield at reasonable prices. Zigma consumables are compatible for A4 size machines ofseveral top brands including HP, Samsung, Brother, etc. We mainly import from quality proven vendors: color consumables we import from Taiwan and Korea and monochrome from China. We are growing at an annual growth rate of 20%. When GST was launched, initially there were a lot of confusions and it affected our business negatively, but with 34
the law normalizing, we are feeling GST is good for our business and improve industry functioning and standards in the future.” Zigma’s products are appreciated for their accurate dimensions, perfect finishing, user-friendliness and durability. Ashish clarifies, “Our USPs are high quality and our consumables give higher page yield compared to market products; and we offer better service and economical pricing. Whenever a new development comes, we are the first to incorporate those changes into the products. The main challenge we are facing is that the market is going down in terms of quality. Low-quality, low-price products are selling more due to customers’ ignorance and sellers’ greed and dishonesty. Healthy competition is always welcome, but what we have today is corrupt and unhealthy competition from low-quality providers who are duping the customers with their mean products. However, now people are gradually realizing the importance of quality and they are gradually coming back to us.”
Through dedication,Zigmahas managed to acquire clientele that spans across India and the brand also exports products to countries in South East Asia and Middle East Asia. The skill-based knowledge, competency and pragmatic approach of the top leadership and the team are the winning formulas of Zigma. Ashish reveals, “Earlier we had been strong in the West, South and North India regions, but now we are expanding fast into Eastern India after we started branches in Orissa and Kolkata. In future, we want to add more products to our portfolio. We have a customer-base of 800 dealers. We are also doing MPS to a limited number of customers and we provide remanufacture cartridges only for our MPS customers. Currently, about 50% of our revenues come from West India, 25% from South and 25% from East. Color segment is growing very fast and at present, nearly 20% of our revenues come from color consumables and 80% from black consumables, but color proportion in our sales is increasing. We provide color consumables for inkjet printers of HP, Epson and Canon. We provide color toners for Konica and Xerox machines.” Today Ashish Imports has carved a respectable niche in the imaging consumables domain and is witnessing a stupendous growth. Ashish concludes, “About 3 months back, we launched laptop peripherals like adaptor, LCD screen, pen drives, etc under Zigma brand and shortly we are going to launch keyboard and mouse. We want to open one more branch office in Andhra Pradesh soon.”

Ravi Choudhary shares, “Our customers and demand come from pan-India. We have branches in Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai, besides our Head Office in Mumbai, so that we can deliver products and servicesto our customers in different regions promptly. Our mission is to procure the world’s best imaging products and make them available at affordable prices to the Indian recyclers and users. We import mainly from qualityproven providers from abroad. Since quality comes at a price, our products are affordable

but not the cheapest as compared to market products. We never cut down quality just to make some quick bucks.” Alphabet imports products from reputed, quality-proven companies from USA, Japan, Korea, China, etc. Alphabet has its own R&D team to select and develop the right products procured from various International vendors. Alphabet focuses on choosing the products that are best suitable to Indian recycling and refilling conditions and needs. Alphabet aims to ensure that the provided consumables and components work well under varying conditions of humidity, temperature, etc. Ravi Choudhary adds, “The demand for color consumables is growing fast but still its share in our business is only a fraction of the total business, because most of the work in our market is done using monochrome. The GST that has been in implementation for the last one year has been a good development for the imaging industry and also for all the industries in the country. The GST law has curbed the grey market to a reasonable extent and we see a good jump in the demand for our products. We see GST as good step and it will improve the business atmosphere further in the coming years.” Alphabet’s personnel have a vast experience and expertise in product identification, import, inventory management, packaging, logistics and customer support. Prompt and wide-range availability of the products throughout the India is one of the company’s main objectives. Reflecting on the current trends in
the market, Ravi Chaudhary expresses, “Nowadays due to intense competition, price-wars, invasion of market by low-grade Chinese compatibles, business has become disorganized and margins have come down. To make quick money, many vendors in India are competing with each other by cutting down prices and sometimes quality. This is bringing down market operating prices (MOP) and also quality.” Besides their branch offices in Chennai, Delhi, and Hyderabad, and HO in Mumbai, the company has a dedicated network of over 1000 committed dealers and channel partners spread across all important cities and towns like Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Pune, Bhopal, Indore, Ranchi, Ahmadabad, Kanpur, Cochin, etc. Ravi Choudhary reveals, “My message to the industry is the imaging industry players should not go about cutting down prices and then cutting down quality to make quick bucks which in the long run will become detriment to all. Instead they should focus more on providing good quality and maintaining decent MOP so that sincere and honest players can do business confidently. In other words, all the important players in the industry should work in a coordinated way to ensure that the industry will function in a proper and organized manner, instead of each vendor playing his own game to make some quick money which will be a detriment to everyone in the long-run. For future, we want to focus more quality and service and expand our business.”
