Editor’s Desk Dear Readers, The key trends observed in the printing inks market are the increasing prominence of flexography printing inks and growing shift towards environment-friendly printing inks. Factors such as rising consumer spending pattern, growing awareness of high quality flexible packaging products and changing lifestyles would contribute to the overall demand for flexography printing inks. Additionally, growing trend for adopting environment-friendly printing inks such as waterbased and UV-cured printing inks techniques in the global printing inks market is expected to improve the efficiency and reduce the harmful effects of inorganic and toxic materials used in conventional printing inks. The global printing inks market is expected to reach $23,881.9 million by 2023. The rising importance of printed materials in various end-use industries such as packaging, labeling and advertising are likely to spike the demand for printing inks worldwide during the forecast period. Based on product, the lithographic inks are expected to be the largest segment of the global printing inks market during the forecast period.

Thermal Printers

Ideal for POS Transactions Greater performance, better quality, reduced operating costs, and fewer pit stops‌all good reasons why thermal printing can benefit your business.

T

hermal printing technology has become widespread across the globe for printing labels, tags and tickets due to its ease, speed and efficient output. These labels and tags can be the vital link in getting your product to your customer, promoting your brand, identifying your assets, or labelling for compliance. Today there are many different types and grades of labels and label materials available, and each can offer a different benefit. Many retail businesses have turned to thermal printers to help them ensure a more efficient point-of-sale (POS) experience for their customers. Not only are they more efficient than impact (traditional) printers, but thermal printers are proving to be more cost effective, and reliable for grocery stores and other retailers. Thermal printers are also ideal for businesses that require POS transactions, and are great for a number of other functions, like printing receipts, ID badges, shipping labels, and price tags, to name a few. Unlike inkjet printers, thermal printers don’t spray liquid ink through a nozzle to produce images. Rather, thermal printers use tiny heating elements to activate or transfer pigments. There are two distinct categories of thermal printers: Direct thermal printers and thermal transfer printers. Direct thermal printers use chemically-treated paper that darkens when heated by a thermal print head. Direct thermal printers do not use separate ink, toner, or ribbon supplies. Direct thermal printers are most commonly used to print items such as receipts and shipping labels. Thermal transfer printers use a thermal print head to transfer a solid ink from a ribbon onto a label supply (usually made from vinyl, polyester, nylon, or other thicker materials) to

34

produce a permanent print. Ribbon is usually made from wax, resin, or a combination of the two, and is bonded to the label supply surface with heat and pressure. There are several reasons to consider a thermal printer for your facility. Here are a few advantages of investing in a thermal printer. Like, the Labels and signs created with thermal printers last longer and stand up to a wider variety of weather conditions than those printed with ink. Thermal transfer printers can print documents, labels, and signs that meet various needs, including durable arc flash labels, text- and graphics-based floor marking, and labels meant for extreme conditions such as cold storage. With fewer moving parts, thermal printers tend to last longer, are easier to maintain, and run more reliably than inkjet printers. Thermal Transfer Printer use for Thermal transfer printers can print signs and labels that stand up to extreme environments and meet OSHA and NFPA requirements, including arc flash labels, marine signage, safety signs, and more. Print magnetized shelving labels, wire wraps, low-light visual communication, and more for applications unique to your facility’s needs. Boost efficiency and safety with custom floor marking signs, which can be modified to create pathways, cordon off areas, and alert pedestrians to traffic. Thermal printers contain fewer moving parts than their impact counterparts, which in turn makes them more durable and reliable. There are fewer things that can go wrong, leading to less down time for thermal printers. Additionally, maintenance costs are significantly lower as complicated repairs are unnecessary and service required less frequently. All of this leads to a reduced total cost of ownership.

Copian : Popular brand known for quality products and services hard to get new and quality products through which their dealers and end customers can reap the benefits. Today, the company has compatible cartridges and toner powders for all the reputed brands like HP, Xerox, Samsung, Ricoh, Brother, Canon, Toshiba, Panasonic, Sharp etc.

Mr. Naveen Thirani CEO, Copian International

C

opian International, established in 1996, is a Mumbai-based (Maharashtra) company initially started with manufacturing of dotmatrix printer ribbons. At present, Copian’s brand product line includes toner powders, compatible cartridges, OPC drums, PCRs, MAG rollers, chips, printer parts, blades, rubber bushings, chips, Teflon grease, pickup rubber, pickup paper roller rubber, tension springs, color toner powders for all models. In an interaction with Imaging Solution magazine, Naveen Thirani, CEO, Copian International, shares their company’s policy and business strategy. Today, Copian has its supply network throughout INDIA and is a popular brand known for quality products and quick services. The company imports and distributes only from reputed ODMs from China, Korea, and Taiwan. Copian strives 36

Mr. Naveen clarifies, “We operate throughtout India through a trusted and efficient dealer network. We have loyal customers in every city in India. We import many tailormade products according to our specifications, mainly from different and proven Chinese ODMs. Then we provide all these products under-one-roof under our Copian brand name. Offering good quality products that give quality print and high page yield are hallmarks of our brand. We complete with OEMs for quality, reliability, consistency and yield; we do not compete with local distributors, while at the same time our compatible cartridges cost just about 1520% of the OEM cartridges thus giving a great price advantage to the consumers as well as to the dealers and distributors.” Regarding the latest trends, Mr. Naveen asserts, “The latest trend is high quality compatibles are slowly taking over a part of the refilling business. In other words, a part of the refilling segment will be eventually replaced by quality compatible cartridges. Our compatible cartridges, laser toners and inks, etc give the best quality and high page yield. Next, our compatible cartridges and others have less than 0.1% rejection

rate. In most cases, we offer replacement guarantee and our after-sales-service is among the best in the industry. Color usage, both on inkjet side as well as on laser side, is growing fast, though at present the color segment forms only 10% to 15% of our sales. This segment has a great future. We are going to leverage on this aspect in the coming years.” The new Indian government at the centre has come up with many new initiatives with an intention to improve quality, level off taxation methods and to boost the industrial and economic growth. In this regard, Mr. Naveen opines, “We are very positive about the new government’s initiatives. GST will be very helpful to us and to the industry in general, because it will help to avoid multiple taxation and speed up business transactions and product movement, and we can transfer this saving to the end customers. That will be a good development for both, to the customers and to us.” With respect to their channel strategy and future plans, Mr. Naveen clarifies, “We have a trusted network of dealers distributors with whom we work as a family. We maintain very good relationship and communication with our dealer distributors community and work with them hand-inhand. We regularly update them about our products and the new technical aspects. When it comes to our future plans, we want to expand and strengthen our dealer network further. Also recently we ventured into providing copier powder in a big way and want to expand it further. We want to expand more into corporate customerbase. Over all we want increase our reach, scope and revenues.”

PREFIL Takes Top Performing Partners on Joy Trip to Bangkok

R

ecently, PREFIL Takes Top Performing Partners on Joy Trip to Bangkok. PREFIL SYSTEM, founded in 2001 and based out of Delhi, is a provider of quality imaging consumables. They also remanufacture color and mono laser and ink cartridges. Led by its Proprietor, Umesh Chand Aggarwal, PREFIL SYSTEM offers high quality products supported by strong service support. They provide laser toners and inks, both color and

mono, in bulk without brand name. They also provide laser toners under their own brand name Printon, launched in 2005, through their partners and dealers. Umesh Chand shares, “We are growing at a healthy annual rate of 20%. GST is very good development for us; we saw good growth in our business. Thanks to our partners cooperation, commitment and hard work, in the last 3 years we clocked a very good growth rate. Last financial year, we launched good incentive schemes. We took 12 of our best performing partners to Bangkok on a pleasure trip for 6 nights and 7 days. Everyone enjoyed the trip and we are looking forward more such schemes in future.” Other consumables that PREFIL SYSTEM provides include compatible cartridges, PCR and magnetic rollers, OPC drums, all types of chips, logic cards, pick up gears, fuser films,

38

pressure rollers, pickup rollers, cartridge seals, air bags, etc. To supply quality products and services comparable to OEMs, PREFIL SYSTEM follows stringent quality control and exceptional customer service. Regarding challenges, Umesh Chand, states, “Recently a lot of low quality consumables started flooding the market and as their quality is poor, their prices are also low. Since most users are unable to differentiate the right quality, they are often attracted to the cheaply priced low quality goods. This is spoiling the market quality and culture, besides bringing down margins for the quality product providers. GST law is good as it helps us to avoid multiple-taxation and some unnecessary formalities and it also checks grey market operators.” Umesh Chand adds, “Our USPs is best quality and cordial relationships with our business partners and customers. We offer our products pan-India with main areas of operation as NCR and North India. Color is growing faster than mono, but still mono forms major chunk of our business (nearly 90%). Vendors and other business partners can rest assured about our financial credibility. We have the best record of maintaining our financial commitments with our partners” PREFIL SYSTEM is committed to achieving the highest levels of customer service and customers today look up to the company as a value provider with high product quality standards and top technical support.

Regarding the importance of distributors and distribution network, Umesh Chand clarifies, “Some importers underestimate the importance of traders like us and our distribution network. And they try to provide directly to the end users, but soon they realize that they have suffered losses. This is because as traders and distributors, we know which customers are reliable and good paymasters. We can recognize the defaulters well, because of our knowledge of the customers in the market and years of experience and contacts. Providing through the trusted distributor will definitely ensure that the importer’s money is safe.” PREFIL

SYSTEM’s

staff

ensures

their

company’s products offer the best performance and value to the user. All products of PREFIL SYSTEM have a warranty equal to or exceeding those of OEM manufacturers. Regarding future plans, Umesh Chand asserts, “In the next two years, we want to expand into import activities and further extend our business into other regions in India where we have not been so strong at present and add more distributors and dealers to our network. We also want to increase our exports to Sri Lanka and Nepal and expand to other overseas markets.”
