Static Control reopens Global Distribution Centre Destroyed by Spring Tornado

L

ess than five months after a powerful tornado flattened its Global Distribution Centre in April, Static Control now operates from a new and improved state-of-the-art facility. The 174,000 square foot structure was built on the site of the former distribution centre, which was destroyed by an E4 tornado that swept through central North Carolina on April 16 of this year. No Static Control employees were injured, and no manufacturing plants were damaged. “This new distribution centre will help us better serve our customers because we designed it for even greater efficiencies and capacity,” said Ed Swartz, CEO and founder of Static Control. The new building has 55 percent more storage space, designed with features that increase operational efficiencies, including wireguided forklifts and higher ceilings for more vertical storage. Construction started with debris removal on April 18, just two days after the tornado. Three locations were used temporarily as distribution facilities during construction. On September 6, all distribution operations were consolidated into the new centre. During this time, Static Control was fully operational with no delays or interruption in shipping or sales. Construction is still under way to replace the company’s global headquarters also destroyed by the tornado.

The new Global Distribution Centre holds more than 17,000 different products.

[ 10 ] NCN

this represents a change of licensee in parts of South America and additional, new territory to cover Latin America. “SymbioOffice has relationships in Latin America and bi-lingual personnel. Their development plans are extensive in a region with a growing demand for green products, similar to Europe’s,” Greenlaw explained. He said SymbioOffice will develop a variety of distribution channels in the region. Greenlaw reported SoyPrint toner is derived in part from soy and has experienced an increase in bio content during 2011. He said it now covers nearly 30 HP monochrome models and the company is nearing completion of toner for use in other brands. Greenlaw said he was pleased with the reception in Europe and South America. SoyPrint is sold as a finished cartridge in the U.S. SoyPrint toner is made in the US. Aster Graphics’ “Record Growth” Sees 200,000 Cartridge Shipments in October

A

ster Graphics managed to achieve a shipping level of 200,000 toner cartridges this month, the company reports. The company began operations at its factory in Xinyu, Jiangxi in May, and from starting with 100 experienced professionals has already expanded its workforce to include 600 workers across 25 production lines. Alex Goo, General Manager of Aster Graphics’ factory, said: “Our team devotes to the best quality, and what we have achieved now is much better than our expectation.“We planned to build up the facility for a monthly production capacity of 300, 000 units of toner cartridge[s] by the end of this year, but the shipment in October has already achieved 200, 000 units. Now I think we need to enlarge the monthly production capacity to 400,000 units by the end of this year.”Aster also reports extremely positive feedback for its new factory

following its opening event last week. Gene Fontana, a 30-year aftermarket veteran and one of the founders of US company Future Graphics, was among those impressed by the site’s advanced equipment.“Aster has accomplished unbelievable success in a short period of time,” he said. “Aster’s team is very impressive to me, because they have the best understanding in the industry.“I’ve been to so many factories, and this is the most amazing factory I’ve ever seen. It clearly shows Aster’s commitment to manufacturing and its customers.”

GreenPrint Technologies Looks to Lower Printing Costs with GreenPrint Advisor Software GreenPrint Technologies announced that a public beta version of its GreenPrint Advisor software is now available. The software is ideal for managed print services (MPS) providers and is designed to integrate seamlessly with GreenPrint’s other print-management tools. GreenPrint Advisor helps end users redirect print jobs from devices with high per-page costs to more cost-effective devices. Printers are classified as “red” (costly), “yellow” (more cost-effective), and “green” (most cost-effective). As shown in the image below, when a user in corporate environments selects a “red” or “yellow” device for a print job, the software produces a pop-up message showing the savings provided by transferring the job to a “green” printer and allows the user to transfer the print job. Another benefit of the software is that it can spot locally connected printers not on the network and notifies administrators of their presence. The new software seems like it has the potential to be a big hit with MPS providers. We suspect it will also be successful in changing end-user behavior where the software is available. Workers may have been told—sometimes repeatedly—which printing devices in their environment is most cost-effective, but the habit of printing to whichever device is physically closest can be hard to break. GreenPrint Advisor puts the most cost-effective solution front and center whenever end users choose a lessefficient option.

Lexmark Print Release Now in the Cloud

Lexmark announced that its Print Release solution can now be hosted in the cloud. The Print Release\ solution itself is now new—Lexmark announced it during the first quarter. Print Release is a document output management solution that enables end users, including mobile users, to print securely to any Print Release-enabled printer or MFP on their company’s global network. What is new is that by offering Print Release under a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, or as a hosted service on a subscription basis, Lexmark is now making the solution available to firms that do not want or lack the resources for a traditional, on-premise deployment using their own IT infrastructure and support staff. With Print Release, print jobs can be sent from PCs using the Lexmark Universal Print Driver. Alternately, users can log onto Lexmark’s Solutions Platform web portal to add or drop documents to the print queue without using a print driver. Users can also print remotely from iOS and Android mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets using the Lexmark Mobile Printing

App. Alternately, a print job can be sent using any email-enabled mobile device by attaching the document to be printed and sending it to the user’s corporate Print Release email account. Print jobs can be sent to any Print Release-enabled printer. This includes machines that support Lexmark Embedded Solutions Framework and non-Lexmark printers with PCL/PostScript, a card reader, and a connection through a Lexmark Print Release Appliance. The print job is released by the user at the desired printer, using a pass code or a security card. Once the user is authenticated, Lexmark devices with an e-Task interface can use their customary personalized interface with shortcuts and workflow icons. When combined with Print Release, Lexmark’s Document Accounting solution enables businesses to monitor and control output activity, including jobs sent from mobile devices. Customers opting for traditional deployment license Lexmark’s solutions, paying an upfront fee, and then manage the associated infrastructure on their own. Customs can now subscribe to Print Release on a monthly, quarterly, or annually under Lexmark’s SaaS model. While consumer and SOHO-oriented mobile/cloud printing solutions for various inkjet devices are designed to take advantage of the craze for mobile devices and capture some of the pages that have been lost to electronic display media, Print Release is designed for enterprises using managed print services and actually looking to reduce print volumes. For example, by requiring end users to physically release a print job, the solution helps eliminate unnecessary printing. Lexmark points out, “Customers who have implemented Lexmark Print Release as part of a managed services engagement have seen a dramatic reduction in page output, also enabling them to reduce the number of devices in their fleet.” Still, we are sure that by enabling mobile users to print, Lexmark hopes to capture pages that otherwise would not have been printed, while providing enterprises a measure of security and control, particularly through the Document Accounting solution.

Static Control releases Industry’s First Colour NeverTAB PCr

S

tatic Control has introduced the first ever NeverTAB PCR for colour toner cartridges. NeverTAB™ PCRs work just like the OEM, preventing toner additive build-up (TAB) and print defects due to TAB. “This is what the industry has been waiting for the past 20 years,” said Ed Swartz, CEO and founder of Static Control. “Our engineers – the best in the industry – have worked for years and we have invested aggressively to develop this revolutionary technology, because our customers need this product to compete and to grow.”TAB is the toner additive build-up that is embedded into and on the surface of the PCR during the cartridge life. On colour PCRs, it appears as a coloured build-up. On monochrome PCRs, TAB is a whitishgrey film.TAB creates an insulator barrier that stops the PCR from uniformly charging and discharging the OPC drum. This barrier results in print defects such as backgrounding, hazing and streaking. The NeverTAB PCR from Static Control does exactly what it says. It never TABS. The new colour NeverTAB™ PCR from Static Control (NVRTABPCR-H1525) can be used in cartridges for more than 30 colour printer applications worldwide. Static Control plans to release a full line of NeverTAB PCRs for a full range of monochrome and colour applications.

MSE Introduces MPS Engineered Marketing Piece

M

icro Solutions Enterprises (MSE), the industry leader for Intelligently Re-Engineered cartridges, introduces its new “MPS Engineered” marketing piece to support the newly created sub brand of “MPS engineered”. MSE has designed a highly impactful marketing piece to help dealers understand the MSE advantages in their extended life cartridges. The piece includes information regarding the newest releases of extended life cartridges, the technical advantages of MPS engineered, and commercial advantages. This piece can be used and private labeled by any MSE dealer who is looking to spell out the advantages of these cartridges to prospective customers. Luke Goldberg, SVP MSE Global says of the piece ”There is no question that there is the complete blurring of the lines between printers and copiers, which has helped to hasten the advent of CPP/TCO/MPS programs from dealers in all channels. Higher yield, “MPS engineered” cartridges are more resonant than ever for dealers who are seeking the lowest CPP, highest efficiency, and ultimate profitability in their programs. In addition, this piece clearly illustrates that quality is critical to achieve profits and to maintain sustainable

[ 18 ] NCN

MPS programs. The industry needs to leave the notion behind that quality isn’t as important in MPS and this illustrates what is truly involved in producing a reliable, high quality extended life cartridge.”MSE is the largest USA based remanufacturer and is acclaimed as one of the leading edge innovators in the marketplace. MSE has pioneered the process of “Intelligent ReEngineering” as applied to remanufactured printer consumables which is a protocol that employs patented technologies, proprietary processes, and stringent testing methodologies all with the goal of providing the market’s best alternative to high cost OEM print consumables. Formax Introduces New Pressure Seal System, Scanning System, and Tabletop Air Jogger

F

ormax has introduced a new pressure seal system, plus a scanning system for document data integrity and verification, and a new tabletop air jogger. The FD 2054 joins the Formax AutoSeal line, replacing the FD 2052, and uses the latest Formax folding technology. The FD 2054 is a fully automatic pressure sealer which provides the ultimate tabletop solution for processing pressure sensitive one-piece mailers. Designed with ease of operation and efficiency in mind, the FD 2054 automatically detects and adjusts for 11-, 14- and 17-inch forms. It features five pre-programmed standard folds for even panel C, V, Z and uneven/eccentric C and Z folds. It also has the ability to store up to 35 custom fold settings with the simple touch of a button. A drop-in three-roller feed system produces dependable feeding of forms with no paper fanning required. Forms are processed at speeds up to 16,450 per hour, and are output to an integrated telescoping conveyor with automated nip roller positioning, capable of holding up to 500 processed forms. The large 2.8-inch (71mm) backlit LCD display and control panel allow for untrained operators to walk up and start processing pressure seal forms with little to no instruction, according to Formax. The FD 2054 advanced software allows for all standard fold types and paper sizes to be customized to meet your particular needs. The duty cycle has been dramatically increased from 125,000 pieces/ month to 200,000/month. Options include an enclosed cabinet for storage and 402 Series Joggers to reduce static electricity and align forms for proper feeding. The Formax Data Integrity Scanning System provides simultaneous data integrity and print quality inspection for mail processing, secure printing and label inspection applications. The System is capable of reading OCR or Barcodes to verify sequencing and identify duplicate and missing pieces. The software pulls together images and data collected from the single-camera system and allows the implementation of any number of software tools to read, control, inspect, verify, log and report. The Data Integrity Scanning System is ideal for use with Formax inserters, 6304 Series and above, and production pressure sealers. The FD 402TA1 Tabletop Air Jogger is designed for print shops and production houses with limited space. This compact, powerful model aligns and dries sheets in a single process while reducing static electricity.

Xerox Announces Wireless MFP with Free Mobile Printing App

S

mall and medium businesses and entrepreneurs have two new ways to be more productive with Xerox Corporation’s free mobile print app and new wireless multifunction printer (MFP), according to the company. Both tools reportedly make it easier for workers to manage documents, freeing up time and resources to grow their business.Xerox’s mobile print app, PrintBack, works with printers and MFPs with simple set up. It lets users access their Mac or PC-connected printer through a Google Android or Apple IOS-enabled device, making printing in or out of the office effortless and reliable. A document, photo or Web page is sent via an open-email service such as G-mail, Hotmail or the storage service Dropbox – from the mobile device to the default printer. The WorkCentre 6015 color MFP is Xerox’s first Wi-Fi enabled device. The desktop MFP combines print, copy, scan, fax and digital workflow capabilities. The WorkCentre 6015 shares the same print functionality as the Xerox Phaser 6010 color printer with print speeds as fast as 12 ppm for color and 15 ppm for black and white. It also features plug-and-play setup and the ability to handle custom media and sizes, so a variety of office documents and sales materials can be easily produced.

Lexmark Introduces New Vizix 2.0 Platform in Pro715 and Pro915

Lexmark announced a pair of new A4 inkjet all-in-ones, the Pro715 and Pro915, based on a new imaging system that the company has dubbed Vizix 2.0. With the exception of these

brand-new models, most of Lexmark’s current inkjets are based on its Vizix platform, which was introduced in 2009 and was the company’s first in many years to use a permanent print head and separate ink tanks. It appears that with this latest product launch, the company is also looking to simplify its naming strategy. With the Vizix models, each of the home-office-oriented machines had a descriptive name beginning with an Impact, Interpret, Intuition, and Interact. Each of the professional series models initially began with a P: Prospect Pro, Prevail Pro, Prestige Pro, Pinnacle Pro, Platinum Pro. Each of these descriptive names was then followed by a number. The new naming convention is simpler and easier to remember, in our opinion.

he Samsung Ricoh SP4100 series of printers are based on a Ricoh 31-36ppm, 1200 x 600 dpi engine. All models have a first page out in less than 6.9 seconds. (Not 7 seconds… 6.9 seconds, how’s that for being specific!) These are not the easiest cartridges to do, but if care is taken they are not too bad and the profits are nice! Care must be taken not to disturb the doctor blade (Db) as it is very difficult to set back properly. The entire Db assemble can be removed though so it’s not a problem. These cartridges also us a chip that must be replaced each cycle. There is a HY and a LY cartridge and both have a different chip. To install the replacement chips you will need to unsolder the old chip and solder on the new one. The HY cartridges only work in the 4100N and 4110N, the LY only in the 4100NL
