+ EDITORIAL 2018 es el año de Viena porque allí se celebra el centenario del Modernismo. Nunca hubo tantas exposiciones homenaje a pintores como Klimt, Schiele, Wagner y Moser. Nos centramos en Gustav Klimt, creador de una estética lujosa y sofisticada, expuesto en el Kunsthistorisches Museum. Sus formas espirales y su estilo, siempre actual, inspiran a diseñadores y artistas de todo el mundo. El Modernismo culminó con la Abstracción, transformando la historia del arte. Presentamos a uno de los pioneros del Cubismo Abstracto, el pintor checo Frantisek Kupka. Su exposición ha sido organizada por Grand Palais-Centre Pompidou (Paris), Ateneum Art Museum (Helsinki) y National Gallery (Praga). De allí volamos a Paris para ver los últimos desfiles y descubrimos “el último grito” de diseñadores como AZZARO, CHAUMET, SORBIER, GUO PEI, GAULTIER, GRAWE, KENZO, SCHIAPARELLI, ON AURA TOUT VU, FOURNIE, ROLLAND,

La feria americana, “hermana pequeña” de la original Suiza, se ha convertido en un mega evento: Miami Art Week. Os invitamos a descubrir Colombia, país de naturaleza imponente y autores como García Marquez, Premio Nobel de literatura. En sección Gourmet, un clásico que lideró el boom de los chefs españoles: el vasco Martín Berasategui. En Arquitectura, entramos en la biblioteca mas original del mundo. Construida en Tianjin (China), es diseño del estudio holandés MVRDV. Es un edificio en forma de gigantesco ojo humano, envuelto con estanterías curvilíneas forradas de millones de libros. Como este mega-ojo virtual, mantenemos los ojos bien abiertos para seguiros descubriendo las novedades mas fascinantes por venir. Nuestra curiosidad es infinita…

We travel to another key winter event: Miami Art Basel. The American fair, "little sister" of the Swiss original, has become a mega event: Miami Art Week. For the explosion of light and joy that will accompany the coming months, Azzaro dreams of far-off influences of floral embroideries and animal prints to create a collection in which mystery and sensuality go together wonderfully. Paseos imperiales Para la próxima primaveraverano, Chaumet no defrauda y pone a disposición de las mujeres más sofisticadas y elegantes dos colecciones exclusivas que no tardarán en convertirse en objetos de deseo de los gustos más glamurosos. La primera colección, diseñada bajo el nombre de Josefina, nace para satisfacer los gustos más exquisitos y exigentes a través de piezas indescriptibles en las que el blanco y el rojo se entremezclan con brillantes en tiaras, brazaletes y sortijas de excepción. El oro blanco y rosa, los diamantes y los zafiros azules y de «paparadasha» (en tonalidades naranjas y rosados) evocan los lujosos salones en los que la Corte Imperial celebraba sus opulentas fiestas. La segunda colección ideada por Chaumet se inspira en la Rusia más excepcional de los zares. Broches, anillos y pendientes reproducen la forma de «kokoshnik», el tocado femenino típico ruso, que consigue ese toque distinguido tan propio en la mujer soñada por Chaumet. “Kupka, pionero de la Abstracción” descubre su trayectoria artística e intelectual, sumergiéndonos en su universo rico en colores, formas y movimiento. Frantisek Kupka (18711957), con raíces en Bohemia, trabajó en Praga y Viena hasta llegar a la vanguardia de París. Allí recibió influencias del Neoimpresionismo, el Simbolismo y el Modernismo. Su pasión por pintar el movimiento le llevó a descubrir la abstracción. Kupka aportó su personal visión del arte no figurativo. En 1912, sorprendió en el Salon d’Automne con “Amorpha”, una de las primeras pinturas totalmente abstractas expuestas en público. Su abstracción, llena de significados e intenciones filosóficas, sintoniza con teorías sobre la energía. En 1923 publicó “Création dans les arts plastiques”, ensayo donde plasmó su concepto del arte como sistema de creación al margen de la naturaleza. + 34
Coincide con Kandinsky en que la pintura, como la música, puede expresarse con formas sin imitar la realidad. Kupka jamás se unió a ningún grupo y experimentó con la pintura abstracta de un modo muy personal, apasionado por la ciencia y la espiritualidad. Esta exposición retrospectiva, con 300 obras, muestra el amplio espectro de colores de su paleta y sus últimos cuadros geométricos, revelando un artista genial y único. Su obra se expuso poco y tuvo problemas económicos. Murió pobre y aislado en 1957. Triste ironía... un año más tarde el Musée National d’Art Moderne de París organizó su gran exposición retrospectiva. En 2018 varios museos rinden merecido homenaje a este genial pionero del Cubismo.

"Kupka, pioneer of Abstraction" discovers his artistic and intellectual career, immersing us in his universe rich in colours, shapes and movement. Frantisek Kupka (18711957), was born in Bohemia and worked in Prague and Vienna until reaching the avant garde of Paris. There he received influences from Neo- Impressionism, Symbolism and Modernism. His passion to paint movement led him to discover abstraction. Kupka contributed with his personal vision of nonfigurative art. In 1912, he surprised at Salon d'Automne with "Amorpha", one of the first totally abstract paintings ever exhibited in public. His abstraction, full of meanings and philosophical intentions, tunes into theories about energy. In 1923 he published "CrĂŠation dans les arts plastiques", essay where he embodied his concept of art as a creative system apart from nature.

He agrees with Kandinsky that painting, like music, can be expressed in forms without imitating reality. Kupka never joined any group and experimented with abstract painting in a very personal way, passionate about science and spirituality. This retrospective exhibition, with 300 works, shows the wide spectrum of colorus of his palette and his latest geometric canvases, revealing a great and unique artist. His work was little exposed and he had economic problems. He died poor and isolated in 1957. Sad irony ... a year later the MusĂŠe National d'Art Moderne in Paris organised his great retrospective exhibition. In 2018 several museums pay a well- deserved tribute to this great pioneer of Cubism.

El prestigio de Martín Berasategui, el cocinero español con más estrellas Michelin en territorio nacional, ocho, despega de manera vertiginosa a partir de 1993 cuando con 33 años inaugura junto a su mujer, Oneka Arregui, su restaurante en LasarteOria, a siete kilómetros de San Sebastián. Mil vivencias personales sumadas a recuerdos de la adolescencia entre las que emerge su padre, ya fallecido, gura determinante que por entonces regentaba el Bodegón Alejandro. «Se llamaba como yo, era recto y generoso y creía en el trabajo en equipo, una idea que me supo inculcar».
Hasta tal punto mantiene grabado a fuego su recuerdo que, cuando en 2005 es galardonado con el «Tambor de Oro» de San Sebastián –el premio que más le ha emocionado-, Martín se vuelca públicamente en agradecimientos, habla de su madre y de su tía y ensalza sin límites la memoria de su progenitor. Entre los 15 y los 27 años Martín visita Francia para formarse y adquirir nuevos conocimientos. Es así como se impregna de los secretos de la alta pastelería y de la ciencia de la panadería. En Bayona aprende con Jean Paul Heinard y en Anglet con André Mandion. En la charcutería ahonda de la mano de François Brouchican en la villa de Ustariz y en la cocina con Bernard Lacarrau en el pueblo de Labatut. Pero, sobre todo, sería con Didier Oudil, profesional portentoso, primer jefe de cocina en el glamoroso balneario Les Prés D’Eugénie, junto a Michel Guerard, con quien toma contacto con la alta cocina. Y luego con Alain Ducasse, en el restaurante Louis XV de Mónaco. Tras salvar mil dificultades, el 1 de mayo de 1993 abren las puertas de su nuevo restaurante en Lasarte, al que denominan Martín Berasategui. Una aventura de riesgo que, sin embargo, catapulta su imagen hacia la fama. Y con la fama y el prestigio internacional emerge Berasategui empresario y gestor. En 1996 funda y dirige el Grupo Martín Berasategui. The prestige of Martin Berasategui, the most Michelin-starred chef in Spain (8) took in 1993 when, at the age of 33, he and his wife Oneka Arregui opened their restaurant in Lasarte-Oria, seven kilometres away from San Sebastián. His training as a chef and the better part of his life are connected to Bodegón Alejandro, charming eatery located in the old part of San Sebastián, for which he was awarded his first Michelin star. "I was born in 1960 at 4 General Echagüe street, between the fishing harbour and La Bretxa market”, he affirms. “As a child, I used to see the fish coming in carts pulled by mules from Igueldo and Aiete. From countless personal experiences and teenage memories emerges his father, now deceased, determining guru who ran Bodegón Alejandro at that time. “We shared the same name, he was upright and generous and believed in teamwork, an idea that he managed to instill in me" This recollection made such an impression that, when awarded the Golden Drum of San Sebastián in 2005 - the prize that most touched him - Martín effusively expressed his thanks, spoke of his mother and his aunt, and extolled his father’s memory. El atrio de la Biblioteca Pública de Binhai está diseñado imitando una pupila en 3D como observando a través de una fachada acristalada, a modo de córnea.
En la planta baja hay áreas de lectura para niños. Los pisos superiores contienen salas de reuniones, oficinas y dos terrazas en la azotea.
El espacio de 5 pisos envuelto por estanterías del suelo al techo, escalonadas en diferentes niveles, formaría la cuenca del ojo, mientras que el auditorio central esférico y brillante, sería la pupila. Las estanterías curvas envolventes proporcionan espacios donde los estudiantes pueden sentarse y leer mientras observan a los demás. Librerías casi infinitas continúan a través de una fachada de vidrio, formando oleadas de persianas que reflejan el resplandor del sol. El interior es una especie de cueva en un edificio de 33.700 m2. Sobre el atrio circular, las repisas superiores, actualmente inalcanzables, están cubiertas con placas de aluminio impresas imitando libros. Es un extraordinario trompe l'oeil, una ilusión óptica. An amazing library that looks like a huge eyeball in in Tianjin (China) has been built by Dutch firm MVRDV. The atrium of Binhai Public Library is designed to look like a 3D pupil, staring out through the building's glazed facade, as a cornea. The 5 storey-high space is framed by floor-to-ceiling bookshelves staggered at different levels forming an eye socket shape, while a spherical glowing central auditorium form the pupil. Curving lined shelves provide areas where visitors can sit and read while observing others. Never ending bookshelves continue out across a glass facade, forming waving louvres that reflect sun glare. The interior is almost cavelike in a 33,700-squaremetre building. Upper shelves above the atrium, currently unreachable, are covered in perforated aluminium plates printed to look like books. It’s an extraordinary trompe l’oeil, an optical illusion. The library also houses education facilities, located around the periphery and accessed via the main hall. Subterranean rooms hold large archives providing extra book storage. + 140
Reading areas for children are located on the ground floor, with lounge areas on first and second floors. The upper floors contain meetingrooms, offices and two rooftop terraces. Tianjin Binhai Public Library sits alongside other cultural buildings by Bernard Tschumi Architects, Bing Thom Architects and HH Design, alll connected by a public corridor sheltered beneath a glass canopy. Based in Rotterdam, MVRDV studio is led by Maas along with architects Jacob van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries. Maas was ambassador at 2017 Dutch Design Week. He presented a concept for a colourful, futuristic hotel and launched a book arguing that architects and designers shouldn't be afraid to copy from each other.
