Call for Entries Third International Corporate Media Award


The ICMA has established itself well The winners report intensively on awards they have won in their print media and on their websites. Specialized media also report on the the results of the first two competitions.

An International Competition on the topic of Corporate Media The first ICMA – International Corporate Media Award – was held in 2010. 194 publications took part in the first competition, 214 in the second.

The objective of the competition: Exchange of creative ideas In most countries of Europe, the United States and Canada, Corporate Media Competitions already exist at the national level. The “International Corporate Media Award” aims to support the exchange of creative ideas at the international platform. It is extremely interesting to see publications from Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Spain, Italy and other countries from all over the world spread on one table.

The aims of the competition:

The Oganizer: In 1984 Norbert Küpper specialized in newspaper and magazine design. In 1989 he was the first to research newspaper readers‘ reading behavior using a special eyetracking camera. Since 1999 Norbert Küpper organizes the European Newspaper Award; a Europe-wide competition on newspaper design and concept. Clear Emerging Trends: The results of the competition allow everybody to classify and optimize their own publication quickly by comparing it on an international level.

Public Image: Winners report intensively on the awards they have won. That emphasizes their quality standards and advertises the product at the same time.

Think Tank: The publication in the yearbook and on www.corporate-media-award.com support the creativity and best ideas.

In this third competition 5.000 call for entries will be send to institutions and companies all over the world. You can look forward to the diverse creativity that will be send in to be evaluated by our jury. We will publish the results on www.corporate-media-award.com. The results of the first and second ICMA are published on the website www.corporate-media-award.com


What you have to do: Main awards: Gold, Silver and Bronze The entries will be sorted in 12 different categories and presented to the jury which will decide about awards in gold, silver and bronze.

Awards of Excellence and Judges‘ Special Recognitions. Furthermore, Awards of Excellence will be awarded. The awarding of special prices – “Judges‘ Special Recognitions” – will also be decided by the jury.

You can submit work created between January 1, 2011 and September 30, 2012.

Deadline: October 1, 2012. 

Fill in the Participation Form and add it to your entry.

For each submitted work one form is intended. You can also add detailed information. You can find the Participation Form at the end of this brochure and on www.corporate-media-award.com.

Participation fee: 120 Euro per publication. 

You will be charged a fee for each publication submitted. It is possible to submit two different issues of the same periodically published product. This way the jury will be able to get a better overview of the total creative potential. In this case the fee is 120 Euro for two issues of the same publication.

The following is obligatory for each entry: 

1. The publication.

2. The CD-Rom or DVD with the Pdfs of the publication in high resolution and fed as double-page spreads. Label the CD so that it can be allocated to the publication. We do not need any Pdfs in the category Online and iPad.

3. The completed entry form.

If you hand in further works, a fee of 120 Euro for each submitted publication has to be paid. 

There are no additional costs. The yearbook is produced as a Pdf and published on DVD. The certificates are also produced as a pdf and will be sent to the winners by email.

12 Categories: For the present this is the list of categories. It is possible that further categories or subcategories will be formed by the jury. 

1. Employee Newspapers and Employee Magazines. Send us two different issues of your publication. The following subcategories already exist: 1.01 Employees Newspapers 1.02 Employees Magazines

2. Customer Magazines, Business to Business (B2B). Send us two different issues of your publication.

3. Customer Magazines, Business to Client (B2C). Send us two different issues of your publication.

6. Annual Reports. Annual Reports are a central mean of a company‘s image cultivation. That is the reason why they are often designed in a very elaborate way. In this category the jury assesses concept and design.

7. Corporate Social Responsibility Reports. Corporate Social Responsibility Reports play an increasing role in the public image. This is why there is an own category dedicated to this topic.

8. Concept, Innovation. Did you develop a new concept in the field of corporate media or realize outstanding innovative ideas? This category focuses on these innovations.

9. Company Logos. Each year a wide variety of new logos is designed. Also well-known trademarks are redesigned. All this company logos are judged in this category. Please add an explanation to help the jury understand what idea is behind the company and it‘s trademark.

10. Corporate Design. Envelopes, letterheads, invoice forms, business cards, etc. – they are the classic tools of corporate communications, which are judged in this category. Note: All examples of corporate design of a company form together one single entry.

9. iPad and iPhone Applications. We are looking for the best company iPad and iPhone Applications. In this category the jury will focus on reader guidance, functionality and innovation. This is how you take part in this category: Describe your application‘s specialties and make them accessible to the jury. Send a pfd file with the description to nkuepper@corporate-media-award.com

10. Online. Websites of companies are judged in this category. If necessary, you can append an explanation in English or German language.

4. Image Brochures. Company publications that do not get published periodically are the focus in this category.

5. Corporate Books. Corporate Books are an important marketing tool in a lot of companies. They communicate profound information to certain target groups. Please send one copy of each book you would like to submit.


Please be aware of the following useful instructions: 

Basics: It is up to you what categories you submit pages in. You can apply with a single publication or with several in one or more categories. The participation fee for each submitted work is 120 Euro. Please hand in two different issues of one periodically published product so that the jury can get a better overview. The publications have to be in the competition‘s time frame. In this case the total fee is 120 Euro. Please use one participation form for each submitted work. You can find the form at the end of this brochure. Attach it to the backside of each submitted work.

Your participation‘s formation: Please don’t send the entries in lavishly designed folders or plastic wrappers. All submissions are supposed to have the same chances, which is why the jury will only judge entries and no portfolios of any kind.

Print-outs or drafts are not admissible.

The pages may not be stuck on carton.

Participation in the categories Online, iPad and iPhone: The best way is to send us a description of your website as pdf file. The advantage is that we can use direct internet links. The Portuguese newspaper “i” made plausible comments:

If the entry is not selfexplanatory, please make an additional comment in English or German language at the bottom of the page.

 

We reserve the right to change the submissions category if we consider it a better match with greater chances.

The same publication should not be submitted in different categories. Each work will just be assessed once and can just be awarded once.

Sending back impossible. There are too many entries, so there is no chance to have them mailed back.

iPad and iPhone: Please give us the name of the application. iPads and iPhones will be available for the jury. Please send the pdf with the comments and explanations to nkuepper@corporate-media-award.com. Pdfs of the entries on CD-Rom or DVD This regulation only applies to the categories in the print field: In addition to the printed edition, Pdfs are required. Newspapers: They are needed as Pdfs in high resolution as individual pages with register marks. Magazines, brochures, etc.: as double pages in high resolution and with register marks. Attach to each individual submission the data as Pdf on CD-Rom or DVD.


Frequently asked questions:

Considering the huge amount of submissions it is impossible for us to confirm the receipt of your competition entry.

The certificate in DIN A 3 size shows the publication that has won, the category and at the bottom the signatures of each member of the jury.

Can you acknowledge the receipt of our package? At some point we loose track of all the submissions so it is impossible for us to send confirmations. We regain overview when the pages have been sorted according to the different categories.

We missed the deadline. Did we also miss this year‘s chance?

No, you still have a chance to win. The jury holds their meeting at the end of October. Everything that makes it‘s way until then, will take part in the competition.  

It is important that you mail us your correct company address. Companies in the EU are requested to mention their tax identification number.

We forgot to submit important entries. Can we send them in late?

Where else can I find information about the competition? You can find “International Corporate Media Award” on facebook. If you “like” the page you will stay posted about the latest news on the competition.

Which publications were successful last year? You can find detailed information on prior winners on www.corporate-media-award.com.

No problem. Please make a clear statement in which category you would like to have them placed. 

Is there a time schedule? Announcement of winners: November 20, the list of winners will be published on www.corporate-media-award.com. If no list is visible, you should reload the website in your Browser. Notification by e-mail: In December, all participants will be informed by e-mail about their results in detail. Delivery of certificates: In January, the certificates will be sent-out by e-mail.

We need an invoice for the participation and the accountancy cannot transfer the fee in time. No problem. Please request the invoice per e-mail: nkuepper@corporate-media-award.com.

Which prizes are awarded? There will be awards in gold, silver and bronze. Additionally, Awards of Excellence will be awarded. The jury will decide about special awards like “Judges‘ Special Recognitions”.

Judgement and criteria: 

The members of the jury bring in all their knowledge about journalism, design and photography into the evaluation.

In each category of the competition the best publications and ideas are looked for. What is innovative? What is new? What can one learn from this page? This are questions which are discussed by the jury.

The standard of the design of the sent in publications has to be clearly above the normal. You have to achieve an outstanding level dealing with visual elements. Keywords are: - visualizing topics - visual storytelling – reports in which the focus was set on visual journalism - Infographics – visual presentation of figures and happenings.

The layout should neither be too uniform nor too variable. If it is too uniform, it will be boring; if it is too variable, it might appear chaotic. The winners have found the golden mean: a systematic use of fixed elements of design for the entire newspaper.

Typographic elements have to be strictly used on all pages.

The overall look has to fit. The publication must reflect the company‘s image in order to give a positive input on corporate communications.

The chief prizewinners are unconventional, distinctive and innovative in the widest sense in the use of their creative and conceptual means.

Innovative, conceptual approaches will play a major role in the competition. This is considered in a special category.
