Letter from the Editor Happy New Year! The new year always brings with it the hope and promise of new beginnings and fresh starts. This is especially true of newly engaged couples who are planning the wedding of their dreams and are soon to embark on an exciting journey together as husband and wife. A journey full of hope, dreams and new possibilities. In the world today, marriage has been discussed in ways never before imagined to people of yesteryear. There now exists the possibilities of open marriage, same-sex marriage, traditional marriage, mail order marriage, marriage swap, and I’m sure some other forms that I have never heard of.
PUBLISHER/EDITOR IN CHIEF Troy Marks MANAGING DIRECTOR Suzy Marks ART DIRECTOR Traci D. Howerton MARKETING DIRECTOR Jessica Bayard
But to me, marriage always comes back to the love between two people. A binding love, before God, in which two individuals become one. A love in which problems, ever present, are tackled and fixed. A love in which grace lends herself freely to each individual in order to help the other in a time of need. A sharing, giving, compassionate love that is slow to anger and quick to understand. A love that transcends the world! I pray that each of you finds this love in your marriage as it is the hope of a brighter future that keeps us all alive. I pray that your marriage is based on faith, love and peace and that this new year floods the earth with married couples who love unconditionally. Change starts with one! Transcend!
SALES DIRECTOR Kelly Massicot
In this issue, we have some fantastic photo shoots that we hope you enjoy. We take you on a Parisian inspired bicycle ride around the world famous French Quarter, back to the swinging 50’s at Rock N Bowl, to a Country Chic inspiration at the Elms Mansion and to our first ever same sex shoot at the Maison Dupuy. We hope that you can draw inspiration from them to assist you in planning your own wedding.

The Spring 2014 colors are as follows: Placid Blue- Like a picture-perfect, tranquil and reassuring sky, induces a sense of peaceful calmness. Violet Tulip- A romantic, vintage purple, evokes a wistful nostalgia.

ith every season, comes new inspiration in design and fashion. The season dictates the type of materials and textiles used and the shapes and cuts of garments. The change of season also brings a new palette of colors to creatively combine and coordinate. Pantone, the world-renowned authority on color, recently released its Spring 2014 Fashion Color Report. These will be the predominant colors for the entire fashion world this season, including wedding fashion. Since Pantone is the standard language for color communication, from designer all the way down to consumer, most bridal dress shops will carry dresses in these colors. You may want to consider this report when selecting bridesmaids, mother of the bride/ groom and flower girl dresses. These will also be the colors for linens and other textiles such as plastics, so you will probably encounter them when searching for table linens, chair coverings and tabletop items.

Hemlock- Similar to the verdant shade of springtime foliage. A summery, ornamental green, provides a decorative touch that’s very different from greens of recent seasons. Pair Hemlock, Placid Blue and Violet Tulip with a bolder hue for an au courant look. Sand- A lightly toasted and amiable neutral, conjures images of the beach and carefree days of summer. Try pairing Sand with Hemlock for perfect, natural balance. Paloma- Serves as a quintessential neutral and may be combined with any color for sophisticated poise. Cayenne- A high-pitched red, adds a dash of spicy heat to neutrals, and heightens the excitement when mixed with Freesia.
Freesia- A blazing yellow, a tropical floral-inspired shade, Freesia’s warmth and energy help set the stage for Celosia Orange. Celosia Orange- An optimistic, spontaneous hue. Pair Celosia Orange with Violet Tulip for a captivating vision, much like the setting summer sun. Radiant Orchid- A bold counterpart to Violet Tulip, helps bring the palette full circle with Dazzling Blue. Dazzling Blue- A scintillating, polar opposite to Placid Blue. Surprisingly, these strong, vibrant colors also pair well across the palette: They are perfect companions to pastels, and add confidence and vivacity when mixed with other bold colors. The 2014 Color of the Year was announced in early December 2013, and this coveted title belongs to Radiant Orchid. “While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.” According to Eiseman, “consumers look to spring for renewed energy, optimism and the promise of a brighter day.” Perhaps incorporating some of these colors into your spring wedding will evoke those feelings and make your perfect day that much better.

Marriage Licenses When you apply for your marriage license, at least one party must appear in person. He or she must have all the necessary information and documents outlined below. 1. State law requires a cerfitied copy of each party’s birth certificate, if born in Louisiana. Passports are not acceptable. If either party was born out-of-state, a waiver can be submitted. If either party was born out-of-country, a valid passport, naturalization papers, or green card, along with a valid state ID card or driver’s license must be presented at the office, and to a judge to obtain a waiver. 2. If either party is divorced, he/she must present a certified copy of the final divorce decree. 3. If either party is widowed, he/she must present a certified copy of a death certificate. 4. Each party must know his/her social security number, but no documentation is required. 5. Both bride and groom will need to complete a marriage license application; forms can be presented by either applicant in person.
Age Requirements If either applicant is under 18 years of age, but more than 16, the marriage is lawful and a license may be issued if the applicants provide: written consent of both parents (or custodian), or an order from a judge or juvenille court. In the event the applicant is under 16, all the above three things will be required.

A Louisiana license is valid in any parish in Louisiana for 30 days. There is a 72-hour waiting period between the time of issuance and the ceremony. Only a district judge or Justice of the Peace can waive this. Newlyweds should order a certified copy of their marriage license two weeks after the marriage to ensure that the license has been returned and recorded.

The First Look: Is it right for You? by Jessica Bayard
T
Photos by: Serendipity Studios
here seems to be more of an emphasis on the unique and the individual in today’s society, and it can be seen more and more in today’s weddings. A new trend that is sweeping the wedding photography and videography industry is “The First Look”. This is when the bride and the groom meet each other prior to the ceremony and this emotionally charged reveal is thoroughly documented. This new concept is quickly becoming a great way to get some great moments captured in a very intimate way.
The Reveal The First Look typically starts with the bride approaching the groom while his back is turned. As she makes her presence known, the emotions portrayed on their faces as they first see each other are priceless memories. The First Look can take place at the hotel where both the bride and groom are getting ready or they can opt to have it take place at the ceremony venue a few minutes prior to the start.
Tradition Some brides are still hesitant to do the First Look, as they are superstitious. The idea of waiting until the actual ceremony for the groom to see the bride dates back to an age when marriages were arranged. It was common for a groom to not meet his bride until the actual ceremony. In the event that he didn’t like her physically, the marriage would still go on.
In modern times, the reveal comes when the groom sees the bride coming down the aisle for the first time. The photographer and videographer capture both the reaction of the groom and the bride. The First Look allows for a more accurate depiction of the moment and its beauty, as there are no worries about the stipulations that some churches put on the photographers and videographers. The First Look originated from the Jewish tradition of the bride and groom seeing each other prior to the ceremony to sign the marriage document or Ketubah.
Options Some brides put a twist on the First Look. They will have their groom don a blindfold as she approaches him. Others will have their groom open a door to see his bride. Some take the “Wizard of Oz approach and are revealed from behind a curtain. Still, some brides get as creative as popping out of a box! The First Look surely invites you to be creative as it is non traditional and has no set rules. So if you are a couple who values their photos and video highly, the First Look can provide extra time to capture great images. You can also enjoy one-on-one time before the ceremony, and knocking out the formal photos early can only help relieve the stress of getting it done after the ceremony.

Ashlee Johnson & Joshua Hunter October 27, 2013
How/When did you meet? We first met in August 2002, during a trip to Blue Bayou one summer for my cousin, Devin’s (one of Josh’s best friends) birthday. I was 14 and he was 15. Too afraid to exchange numbers, we let each other slip by. The next year, in 2003, we met again for Devin’s birthday and finally talked and exchanged information. Two weeks later we were boyfriend and girlfriend :)
What was your favorite part of planning? My favorite part of wedding planning was trying on dresses. I’ve always dreamed of that part and I got to do it with my mom by my side! Oddly, the only thing that I expected to happen, but didn’t was...we didn’t cry!

Did Josh help in the planning process? I’ll give Josh credit for finding our venue. He didn’t want to help too much with planning because he said that it was “my day”, and he wanted me to have everything that I wanted. So he supported my choices and decisions. Did you or Josh cry (or laugh) during the vows? Josh and I did a little bit of both laughing and crying through our vows because we wrote them ourselves. What was your first dance song? “Nothing Even Matters” by Lauren Hill and D’Angelo; a song that we always said would be our “First Dance” song at our wedding since the beginning of our relationship. At your reception, did you stay in heels or switch to flats? I switched to flats because I wanted to have a good time and dance without the worry of my feet hurting. Besides, no one could see them anyway!

How/When did you meet? (Jonathan answered the questions) We met in 2002, while at college through a mutual friend. Natalie and a group of people were studying for a test with my roommate. Natalie and I hit it off and started dating not long after.
What was your favorite part of planning? I think our favorite part of planning was just the anticipation of knowing that our wedding was becoming a reality.

Did your fiancée help in the planning process? We both were involved in the planning process. I would say that Natalie had the final say, but I pushed for a few things that I really wanted such as the band. Did you or your fiancée cry (or laugh) during the vows? Natalie cried throughout our vows. The priest even wiped her tears away with the end of his stole. What was your first dance song? We danced to “Born Again” by Billy Preston and Syreeta Wright. This was the same song that my parents used for their first dance when they got married. At your reception, did you stay in heels or switch to flats? Natalie brought a pair of flats, but once the reception starting going and everyone was having fun she didn’t even bother to change and kept her heels on all night.

e held our fourth “Featured Couple Facebook Contest in December and were once again delighted with a huge response from the many couples and their friends and family that participated. Our winning couple, Gianni and Traylon, won with close to 300 likes! Both Gianni and Traylon hail from New Orleans. Gianni is a fourth year pharmacy student at Xavier University and Traylon works for the Department of Justice.
NWG: How did you meet?
We asked them about their upcoming wedding on June 28, 2014, and how the planning has gone so far. We would like to share their story.
Gianni: If you ask him he would tell everyone that we met in a stairwell, he gave me a compliment and I fell down the stairs. Which of course is not true. We did however meet in a stairwell and he did give me a compliment, but I told him thank you and continued down the stairs without falling. The next time I saw him was

Traylon: Gianni and I met at Xavier University of Louisiana. I met her in the Admin Building stairwell. I told her she was a cutie. That made her so nervous that she fell down the stairs and dropped her books. Of course, like the gentleman I am, I helped her up and picked up her books. Now she will tell you that never happened.... so no one will ever know.
in the library with a mutual friend of ours. We began talking and our relationship was built from there. NWG: Describe your first date. Traylon: Our first date was awesome. I knew that Gianni loves Italian food and I love seafood. So I took her to Pascal’s Manale Restaurant. It was actually her birthday. At the end of dinner I gave her a pink pearls necklace. Folks were looking and saying “Awwww”. Gianni: It was a very romantic setting and I will never forget it because Traylon wore a paper bib in order to eat his BBQ Shrimp. It was so much fun and the food was so great! NWG: Describe your courtship leading up to the engagement. Gianni: Traylon and I dated about four years before he proposed. Throughout those four years I can say that I knew we would be together forever. Traylon is such the gentleman. My family loves him, and that is always a plus! He is always opening my doors, holding my hand, he tells me I am beautiful everyday, and he always puts me first. I’m such a lucky lady because you can’t find guys like Traylon everyday. Traylon: Our courtship was something that you would find in a perfect love movie. There are so many things we mutually agree upon without arguments. We hang out almost everyday. My parents and friends love Gianni. It was the simple things that she has done that made me realize that I have the right lady in my life. There were many times we both said the same words at the exact same time. This still happens today. One day we both were just talking in City Park and the question came up “If you had a daughter what would you name her?” We both called out the same name. We were stunned. Within the 4 years of dating, Gianni made sure she attended every special occasion in my life, in regards to my education and career. Like me, Gianni shows that our relationship is about us, not just herself. I’m a blessed man.
NWG: How did he propose? Gianni: It was Traylon’s 27th birthday and we were planning to go out to eat at 6pm. I was in Houma that afternoon helping my aunts with a baby shower. As the time got closer to 6pm, I knew I was going to have to rush home and get ready for dinner. I didn’t want us to miss the reservation. I was deciding on shoes to wear as Traylon walked in the door. We left my house and were on our way to the restaurant. We were supposed to be meeting his parents at JAX Brewery for dinner so we parked by Cafe du Monde. We were walking towards JAX and Traylon kept stopping to take “important” phone calls. Little did I know he was stalling to make sure everything was perfect. As we walked past Cafe du Monde I noticed there was a band playing, and then I noticed someone with a camera. I figured they were shooting a movie or something. The lady who was directing the cameraman came to us and asked us if we would like to be in her commercial she was shooting. It was a New Orleans themed commercial. I was kind of skeptical, but Traylon, on the w w w . n o l aw ed d i n g g u i d e. co m

other hand, was all for it. So she explained that all we had to do was look towards the St. Louis Cathedral, smile, laugh, and point. It was funny. So we did and the band followed us as we walked. We stopped right in front of the Cathedral and that was a wrap on the commercial. Traylon turned me around and on the bannister above was a huge banner saying “Gianni, will you marry me?” Both of our families were there and the band started to play “Here Comes the Bride” as we walked to the top of the stairs. I was in such shock because this was all a part of his proposal. The band, the commercial, it was so special. He then got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Traylon: With the help of BAMM Communications, the proposal was a success. She said, “Yes.” A day after I proposed to Gianni, my grandmother who accepted her new home in Heaven, came to me in my dreams. In the dream, she was getting dressed for my wedding. She kept looking and smiling at me. Someone told me that was her way of giving me her blessings. Thanks grandma. NWG: How has the planning gone so far? Gianni: The planning is going great. I have such a great fiancé because he wants to help anyway he can, and he is enjoying the planning stage. I sometimes wonder who is the bride because he has such a big input, but I can’t complain because that gets some pressure off of me. Our family is also a big help, which I am so thankful for. Traylon: With the help of God, the wedding planning is going better than we expected. Hardly any stress. I want to see her dress, but she told me no. So, I have to wait till June 28, 2014. I want her to have the wedding of her dreams. Our parents are very excited, which is a great thing. Family and friends are calling, texting, and Facebooking like crazy making sure they get an invite.

NWG: Tell us about your vendors. Gianni: Our photographer is Stacy Marks. My wedding gown and bridesmaids’ dresses are from Pearl’s Place, and our reception venue is Magnolia Plantation. NWG: Any advice for future couples? Gianni: My advice to future couples would be to always be honest with your significant other, communicate with each other, and always keep God in your relationship. It has been working great for Traylon and I, and I see many more years to come in our future. Traylon: 1. Keep God first. 2. Communicate everyday. 3. Listen to each other. 4. Love each other as you love yourself. 5. Think before you speak. 6. Know that trust is like glass, when it shatters its hard to piece together. 7. Keep family and friends out of your relationship and business. 8. Again, Keep God first.

Charlena Steward & Kelvin Robey November 2, 2013
Charlena and Kelvin are not the typical couple. Charlena is 63 and this was her first wedding! Charlena had been married before (her first marriage), but as her daughter Brigeanna recalls, “She never wore a wedding dress or had a honeymoon. She married my father in their tiny apartment’s living room.”
Hearing Charlena’s story, some very wonderful vendors, including our very own Kim Starr Wise Floral Events, decided to give Charlena and Kelvin the wedding of their dreams. The vendors provided their services at little to no cost to the couple. It truly is a feel good story and we wanted to share it with our readers.

How/When did you meet? Kelvin & I met in Winn Dixie on Franklin Ave in 1988. I was shopping and he asked, “Are you a model?” I smiled and said no. I told him I was a hair stylist then asked him what he did for a living. He told me he was a contractor, and then I asked for his card because I needed work done on my house. He did a good job on my place then he asked if he could take me out sometime. I said yes and we started dating. I liked him a lot, but he had no children and wanted to have them. Well, I had four kids, and was done! So we went our separate ways, and he eventually got married and had two kids of his own. I would see him every few years after that, and then we both happened to be single at the same time. The rest is history. What was your favorite part of planning? My daughter, Brigeanna, planned my wedding. The only things I picked were my dress, colors, bridesmaids’ dresses, tuxes, flowers, and invites. The whole thing was her vision. She just turned to me and said, “Pay for it, you need this!” I was a walking ATM! I didn’t know the first thing on planning a wedding. Did Kelvin help in the planning process? YES! My Kelvin picked the reception hall. He was a walking ATM too! Did you or Kelvin cry (or laugh) during the vows? We both laughed a lot!! The pastor told us to hold each other’s right hand; it took us ten minutes to get it right! We were excited and nervous, and just could not follow directions! The whole church laughed. What was your first dance song? It was a special mix of three songs made into one. The first song was “At Last”, the Beyoncé version. Then it faded into “Doing the Butt”. We had a little dance routine to that song. Then it faded into “Love On Top” also by Beyoncé. My bridesmaids and grandchildren danced around us in a circle as we danced! At your reception, did you stay in heels or switch to flats? FLATS!!!! I could not wait to take my heels off! They were not comfortable.

wedding pictures
our wedding pictures are a way to relive the special moments of your wedding day for years to come. When your photographer gives you the finished pictures and it is time to get them printed, you have an important decision to make: you can either get them printed at a drugstore/discount department store or you can have them processed by a professional lab.
Stacy Marks Photography
Though the drugstores may have slightly cheaper prices, the professional lab has the more experienced staff that is dedicated solely to the printing of images. The professional labs do not have seasonal employees who get limited training. They also do not sell anything else other than photo processing. Primary Digital Imaging is a local imaging lab based in Kenner. They work with most of the professional wedding photographers in the city and have been in business for over 50 years. They are committed to providing the highest quality, color photographic services, along with dependable delivery and outstanding customer service. Robbie Holland, with Primary, says, “Your wedding is one of the biggest events in your life. You hired many professionals to make the event as special as possible. As a professional lab, we are making sure that you get the very best quality from your images. This is our primary focus. We are not a store with a lab in the back. Our equipment is state-of-the-art and our staff is fully trained to make sure that the images are printed correctly. Your photographer took extensive time to edit your images, giving you the very best. Therefore, you should make sure that those images are of the highest standard.

Vendor 411: Austin’s Seafood and Steakhouse
I
n the heart of Jefferson Parish lies one of the best places to get mouth watering steaks and CreoleItalian inspired seafood dishes. Austin’s Seafood and Steakhouse in Metairie has garnered accolades for its delectable cuisine from critics and has won multiple awards from local magazines. Austin’s also has many private dining areas for anyone looking for a great place to host a rehearsal dinner, shower and more. They can even cater for any of these types of events. We recently caught up with Amanda McIntyre, banquet manager and daughter of owner Ed McIntyre, to ask her exactly what Austin’s can offer our brides-to-be. NWG: How long have you been in business?
NWG: What separates you from other venues? AM: Our main goal is to ensure that you have an enjoyable and relaxing experience before your big day. NWG: Is there anything that you want our readers to know about you and the venue? AM: Our banquet managers are more than happy to schedule a meeting to go over room options, menu preferences, wine selection, and table arrangements.
AM: Austin’s Seafood and Steakhouse opened in 2003 as an upscale dining option in the heart of Metairie. NWG: How long have you been in the wedding industry? AM: Well, over the past ten years, we have expanded and now offer several private dining spaces that can seat anywhere from 10-90 guests. NWG: What types of services can you provide for a wedding? AM: We are available for private luncheons for groups of 30 or more, serving as the perfect venue for bridal luncheons. We offer several set menus and packages for rehearsal dinners, with the options of both sit down and buffet style. We can customize a rehearsal dinner that will work best for you and your guests. Three to five course menus are available. Petit Filet, Veal Austin, Chicken Marsala, Crawfish Crab Cakes, and Trout Amandine are just a selection of the options available for private dinners.

How/When did you meet? Mike and I met about two years ago. We actually met at Vick’s Kangaroo bar. My best friend lived next door to him growing up. We were out in the city and they just so happened to see each other.
What was your favorite part of planning? I think my favorite part of the planning process was getting my wedding dress. We ended up going to 5 different wedding salons and I tried at least 5 dresses at every store. I loved playing dress up as a kid and this process took me back to being a little girl all dressed up and ready for my prince.

Did Mike help in the planning process? Mike was amazing during the process. He actually called a lot of different vendors shopping around for the best bang for our buck, since we were on a pretty tight budget. Mike was great at wheeling and dealing. He didn’t miss a meeting with any of the vendors and knew when to say the magic words “Whatever you want, we’ll figure it out.” Did you or Mike cry (or laugh) during the vows? No laughing or crying on either end. I had a huge smile from ear to and was so giddy inside. What was your first dance song? Our wedding song was “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green. I always wanted that song to be my wedding song. We wanted something meaningful and soulful, something we could groove to a little bit. At your reception, did you stay in heels or switch to flats? I stayed in heels for as long as I possibly could, I was pretty proud that I lasted so long. We had a live band so not only was I standing all night but I was dancing, too. After a certain point, I just rocked bare feet, which had a lot to do with the champagne I was drinking. Lol

What’s New in Local Fashion: NOLA Fashion Week
W
e, at NOLA Wedding Guide, strive to educate our readers on what is fashionable and cutting edge in the wedding industry here in New Orleans and beyond. In October, we were fortunate enough to be invited, once again, to cover the runway shows of two highly talented designers at NOLA Fashion Week: Jolie & Elizabeth and Libellule. This was their Spring/Summer 2014 collection and it took place at the New Orleans Museum of Art. We saw many beautiful dresses and silhouettes that could easily be used as bridesmaids and wedding dresses. We wanted to showcase this project of love of so many artisans in our community. In its sixth season of providing Southern designers with the soapbox spotlight to gain recognition, sales and accolades, NOLA Fashion Week has grown into what its founders envisioned. The idea was originally conceived from a conversation between co-founders, Nicholas Landry and Andi Eaton over lunch back in the Spring of 2010. They wanted to provide designers that they knew with a platform to showcase their designs without having to travel outside of the South.
“Our hope is that we can continue to work with all of the incredible professionals that we have been blessed to collaborate with and that each of those individuals continues to see growth in their businesses,” says Nicholas Landry. Photographer: Rebecca Tresch Dress Designer: Jolie & Elizabeth

From that conversation, along with help and guidance by PR Guru Lauren Lagarde, and input from so many other industry professionals, NOLA Fashion Week was born. The first season debuted in March of 2011, and has grown into much more than any of them ever imagined in just six short seasons over the last two years. The three co-founders are also the directors of the NOLA Fashion Council. NOLAFC aims to help foster the growth of the fashion industry in New Orleans and acts as a go-to source for finding what pieces may be missing - no matter what one’s role may be in the industry. While there is no full on “bridal wear” runway show as of yet, Nicholas Landry says he aims to eventually include at least one showing in future NOLA Fashion Weeks. Check out our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/NOLAWeddingGuide to find out when and where the next season of NOLA Fashion week will take place. We will surely be there!

Yasmin Aklilu & James Washington III June 22, 2013
How/When did you meet? It was September 2008 when I spotted my future husband, James. We were sitting in Trust & Estates class at Loyola University College of Law listening to our professor lecture. I remember looking over to my right and spotting this handsome quiet guy typing the lecture word-for-word, while also engaging in a g-chat conversation. Right then, he had my interest. I am a sucker for the “quiet” ones (however, I later found out
he is far from quiet). The following month, at a networking mixer, James finally came over to me and introduced himself. We shared a brief conversation and then went our separate ways. That night I told my girlfriends that he was going to be mine (he didn’t know that though) and I was right! Ever since the mixer, James could not stop chasing me, and I couldn’t have been more excited to be chased.

What was your favorite part of planning? My favorite part of planning had to be the end of it, lol. I really loved the way everything came together in the end. My guests appreciated all of the work we put in to make our wedding represent us. I had a beautiful wedding and wouldn’t change it one bit. Did James help in the planning process? Yes, he played a huge role in the planning and execution. He actually designed our save the dates, invitations, our monogram, and the trinkets that we placed on each of our guests table at the reception. Additionally, he made the full playlist and its order for the reception. I couldn’t have done it without him. Did you or James cry (or laugh) during the vows? We laughed a lot during our ceremony. Especially when all six groomsmen faked losing our wedding rings. As for during our vows we neither cried nor laughed. What was your first dance song? Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World.” At your reception, did you stay in heels or switch to flats? I immediately switched to flats after dinner. We danced all night long!

Wise Bride
“Wise Bride” is a recurring feature in the NOLA Wedding Guide, and includes helpful tips and advice from our “Wise Bride.”
Q: I am having a traditional Catholic ceremony and my fiancé has a mother and a stepmother. They aren’t exactly on a friendly basis. During the presentation of flowers to the mothers, do I give his stepmother a flower as well? - K. Lyons, Metairie, LA
A: Traditionally, you have an engagement party, where people may bring gifts, and then you have the wedding shower, where people may give you gifts that were on your registry. The advent of the couples shower and lingerie shower has indeed added more celebrations and giving opportunities to those who cannot make the traditional showers. It’s up to you and your maid of honor (the typical shower planner) to denote the number of showers.
Q: How much money should you spend on wedding favors? - C. Arnoult, Luling, LA A: It really depends on your budget, but they should be roughly $1 - $5 per person. Some brides see it as a quick way to say thank you to their guests, while others personalize the favors as a means of commemorating the occasion indefinitely. Q: Who am I suppose to invite to the rehearsal dinner? - H. Wilson, Baton Rouge, LA A: Traditionally, the rehearsal dinner is to thank the wedding party for being a part of your ceremony. The wedding party consists of the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the parents, grandparents, flower girl/ ring bearer, and the ushers. Some also opt to invite the presider of the ceremony to the rehearsal dinner. However, these days, the rehearsal dinner has often turned into a mini reception, with up to 150 people attending! You may opt to invite just the wedding party and their plus 1’s. It’s solely up to you and your budget. Q: How many showers is a couple traditionally supposed to have? Everyone seems to have multiple showers. So far we have been asked if we will be having an engagement shower, wedding shower, couples shower, and a lingerie shower. I just don’t want anyone to feel obligated to attend/give gifts for each. - L. Howell, Houma, LA

Q: Am I supposed to include my vendors in my headcount for the reception? - J. Lozana, Shreveport, LA A: Your vendors that will be with you for an extended period of time, which usually include your photographer, videographer, event planner and band, should be allowed to have beverages and a small meal at the reception. Most brides will allow them to just join in on the buffet style spread on the vendors’ break(s). Some venues have an option to have a separate room for your vendors to have soft drinks and sandwiches, but be aware of what they charge for this. It may be less expensive to have your vendors just eat at the buffet.

A: Regardless of how the mothers feel about each other, the fact remains that his stepmother is still part of the family and is the one by his father’s side. It would be prudent to honor her, as well as his biological mother with the presentation of the flowers.

How/When did you meet? We met in high school. He played football and I was a trainer. He won me over with his sense of humor, charm, and persistence. He asked me out on a date and the rest is history.

What was your favorite part of planning? Taking trips to New Orleans and food tastings. Did Joshua help in the planning process? Yes, he was very outspoken (almost groomzilla like! Lol) Did you or Joshua cry (or laugh) during the vows? I’m pretty sentimental so Joshua was so adamant about me not crying throughout our ceremony. I was so focused on not crying that I laughed throughout our vows and he was the one who almost cried. What was your first dance song? Etta James - “My Dearest Darling” At your reception, did you stay in heels or switch to flats? I changed to flip flops immediately after our ceremony to second line to our reception.

Rock N Bowl
BRASS AND BRIDES As one of New Orleans’ iconic venues in which to hear great music, Rock n Bowl was the perfect setting for this retro scene. Evoking the spirit and charm of days gone by with an energy that is infectious, Rock n Bowl sets the stage for events of any kind. With the groove of some second line brass as their backdrop, our brides really got into the 50’s era spirit. We present to you the carefree air of one of America’s greatest decades, but with a modern take. Enjoy!! Shoulders - A good tuxedo should hug your shoulders. Let it hold you firmly, in a friendly way.
Torso - Your jacket should fit the silhouette of your frame. Have a tailor sneak it in at the sides to highlight shoulders.
Sleeves - Think about width. Tailoring sleeves to rid them of excess fabric cuts a mean figure. Cuffs - It’s like the frame on a painting, let a little sleeve show through as a finishing touch. It also lengthens the look of your arms.
Pants - Slim, flat front, and quitting at the top of your shoes. End of story.
Shoes - The one thing every man should own is a pair of black lace ups. Real dress shoes have leather soles.
Stays - They keep your collar erect. Take them out before laundering and then get them back in there.
Handkerchief - Wear your top pocket square to bring attention to the chest, not the belly.
Watch - Every outfit should have one, timeless element, why not your watch. Consider a vintage model.

Four Columns
Country Chic at the at the
ElmsMansion Mansion Elms
Our take on the “country chic” motif, this rural yet refined shoot at the Elm’s Mansion juxtaposes the old world feel of the venue with the modern, rustic look that is highly coveted for Spring. With three different “scenes”, we show how to utilize every space to tell a story. The ceremony scene is set off with gorgeous florals and intimate lighting. The outside canopy scene mixes vintage tables with contemporary sofas. The tablescape within the mansion’s parlor, set in front of the stained glass windows, truly brings all of the elements of old and new together beautifully. We hope you are inspired, just as we were!

Down Annie Lane: Making Dream Weddings Come True on a Dream Budget
by Kelly Massicot
Down Annie Lane takes wedding planning to a whole new level. Toni Ulmer and Joy Gaspard began their wedding planning adventure in the recent year, after the engagement of Toni’s daughter Annie. Annie was a bride on a budget with dreams of her Catholic wedding and reception in City Park. Toni and Joy, lifelong friends, jumped right in to help Annie’s dreams come true and with a lot of time, effort, and research, they managed to bring Annie’s wedding together all under budget. Unexpectedly, Annie passed away November 20, 2012, not seeing her wedding take place. Joy, knowing her friend and their new found talent, urged Toni to not let Annie’s joy of becoming a bride be lost and together they formed Down Annie Lane. With keeping Toni’s daughter’s wedding under budget, they knew they could be successful by helping other brides have their dream wedding at a dream cost! They began their journey studying under Sharon Hill Events, while researching and gaining any knowledge they could on how to begin their wedding planning business. After meeting with many obstacles, all while trying to intern under different businesses, Toni and Joy were finally successful in June of 2013, with the booking of their first handful of brides. Toni and Joy have made Down Annie Lane more than just your regular wedding planning business. They offer many options for their brides, from start to finish or just day of service to make sure everything runs smoothly. While they initially only offered day of service, almost all of the Down Annie Lane brides now get the full planning package. Toni and Joy are heavily involved in every aspect of planning the perfect day for their clients and their whole family. They attend all vendor appointments with the bride as well as with her family. If they are

needed at a groom fitting or to help the mother of the bride pick out her dress, they are ready and willing to go the extra mile. To Toni and Joy, every person and aspect of the wedding is especially important. They become a part of the family and spend a lot of time and sleepless nights making sure every detail is attended to. When asked about their business, Toni and Joy say, “A lot of research is conducted by Down Annie Lane to find the highest quality vendor at the best cost, yet allowing the bride and groom to have the final say so in all decisions! Down Annie Lane knows how overwhelming and expensive a wedding can be. Our advice is to allow us to become involved and take the worry out of this most important time. Our fee is based on your budget so that we are affordable to everyone! The mission of Down Annie Lane is that every bride has the vision of her wedding day come to life!” In addition to becoming wedding-planners-turnedfamily-members for so many of their brides, Down Annie Lane donates one wedding dress a year on the anniversary of Annie’s death to a military bride to be, in honor of Annie. They believe in paying it forward for their success and want to keep the excitement Annie had for her wedding alive. Their first military bride received her dress in November 2013 in Levenworth, Kansas! Down Annie Lane is the type of company that’s going to fight to give their bride everything she could imagine. They know the importance of a budget and how hard it can be to stick to it. With countless hours of research and time spent on your special day, there is no way you will not get the wedding of a lifetime. For Down Annie Lane, this is no 9 to 5 job and their telephone is never off!

How/When did you meet? We met at his barbershop on May 12, 2006. After Katrina, it was the only barbershop opened that had a girl stylist, so I was getting my hair done for my senior prom.
What was your favorite part of planning? My favorite part of planning was spending quality time with my parents and fiancé. Life gets so crazy sometimes, so it was nice to take days off to spend together planning our wedding.

Did Jacob help in the planning process? He picked out the guys’ suits, as well as choreographed our dance. Other than that, he was pretty easy going and laid back about the situation. Did you or Jacob cry (or laugh) during the vows? There were no tears on either part, but there were a few giggles here and there. What was your first dance song? It was a remix of fast songs. We started our dance off with an acoustic version of Bruno Mars’ “Just The Way You Are”, and then it turned into a remix of “Wobble”, “Stinky Leg”, “Jump On It”, etc. At your reception, did you stay in heels or switch to flats? I wore flats the entire day.

14 Health Tips for 2014
W
ith the onset of the New Year, who isn’t looking to be healthier, skinnier, and simply, a better person than last year? Follow these 14 tips to ensure a healthier 2014! 1. Avoid skipping meals, especially breakfast A recent study demonstrated that those who skipped breakfast had a >20% risk of developing diabetes. Skipping meals often leads to overeating at subsequent meals and as a result, weight gain.
2. Drink more water The Institute of Medicine recommends 15 cups of fluid per day for men and 11 cups for women. Try to meet at least ½ of this requirement with pure water. Spice up your water by adding fresh fruit, such as strawberries, kiwis, oranges, etc. 3. Get moving! The American College of Sports Medicine recommends exercising for 200-300 minutes/week. Don’t have time for that? Break it up into short intervals of 10-15 minutes throughout the day. And remember – any exercise is better than none! 4. Be a smart shopper Shop the perimeter of the grocery store, spending less time in inner aisles where mostly processed, high fat, and high sodium foods are located. Rule of thumb – 75% of your buggy should be full of foods from the perimeter of the grocery store. 5. Read those nutrition labels A secret to understanding nutrition labels is the % Daily Value found on the right side of a label. If the % Daily Value (DV) is ≤ 5%, it is considered low in that nutrient. On the other hand, if a nutrient contains ≥ 20% of the DV, it is considered high. 6. Put down the salt shaker Salt naturally draws fluid into your cells, resulting in a greater risk of weight gain, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. When looking at nutrition labels, look for products with ≤ 140 mg of sodium/serving. Your body will thank you!

7. Incorporate healthy snacks throughout the day Incorporate healthy snacks in between meals to stabilize hunger and prevent overeating. Limit snacks to 150-300 calories each, including a source of complex carbs and lean protein (ex. low fat cheese with whole wheat crackers, nonfat Greek yogurt, handful of almonds with a small apple).
8. Make half of your plate fruits and vegetables When preparing lunch and dinner, make ½ of your plate fruits and vegetables. Make the other ¼ of your plate starches with the remaining ¼ of your plate lean protein. Such a meal will ensure portion control without leaving you deprived and starving! 9. Eat at home more often Eating out frequently results in increased caloric intake not to mention weight gain from the high sodium, high fat dishes served. Remember the 90/10 rule – 90% of the time follow a healthy lifestyle, whereas 10% of the time you are allowed to “cheat!” 10. Enjoy your food but simply eat less An easy way to control portion sizes without feeling deprived is to use smaller serving ware. Using smaller plates, bowls, and cups is a simple way to reduce portion sizes without having to whip out those dreaded measuring cups. 11. Get your protein “fix” Our lean body mass naturally starts declining at age 40. To combat such loss, make sure to have the right balance of complex carbs and protein. On average, healthy adults need 0.5 gm protein/pound of body weight. Sufficient protein intake also promotes satiety, or fullness, preventing you from overeating. 12. Eat fish twice a week Cold water fatty fish, such as salmon, tuna, halibut, and trout, are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids not only help to reduce your risk of heart disease, but they have also been shown to improve mood disorders as well as total cholesterol levels. 13. Moderation is key! As a dietitian, I definitely have my own vices. The key to staying healthy is to allow yourself that vice but only in moderation. Having that slice of chocolate cake once a month will not push you over the deep end. (Having it every week will!) 14. Keep those eyes closed at night Many studies have correlated disrupted or inadequate sleep with overweight/obesity, diabetes, and heart problems due to changes in appetite-stimulating hormones at night. According to the National Sleep Foundation, adults should aim for 7-9 hours of sleep daily.

Gifts and etiquette From Target to Tiffany,
there is a spectrum of what couples consider to be their “favorite things. Thankfully, there are many places to register for gifts, in-store and online. When preparing a registry, the bride and groom should decide where to register based on three things: 1. Their basic household needs 2. Timeless patterns and pieces 3. Trends that express who they are as a couple While online registries are where most guests will shop, keep in mind that there are many who may enjoy the tradition of going out and seeing the gift options first-hand. Make it convenient for all while allowing the benefits of online ordering.
172

Having too many registries could lead to the couple not receiving an entire 8 serving sets of their dinnerware, so the bride and groom should not register at more than just a few places. Also, make sure that a few affordable items are chosen in order to provide a wide range of purchasing availability to guests who may not have much to spend. A few gifts in the $20.00 range should be added for this purpose. If there is one large item that the bride and groom would like to have, the maid of honor or best man could make arrangements with other friends and close family members to put in for large item.

Second Line Parade If you want a traditional New Orleans wedding, you want to hire a brass band for a Second Line Parade. It is a way of expressing the unique local flavor of the city. The Second Line is the parade of people following the musicians, who are called the “First Line”. The sounds of the instruments (trumpet, tuba, trombone, sax, banjo and clarinet) are coupled with a snare and bass drum. A Grand Marshal will lead your wedding guests around a French Quarter block announcing and celebrating your event. These parades began back in the 19th century, with organizations advertising for burials and honoring the deceased all in one announcement. Many newlyweds can be seen with their umbrellas, white for the bride, black for the groom, and their guests holding handkerchiefs as they follow the band.

Professional Tips on Ceremony Music: Part 2 by Aria M. Mason
Y
our ceremony music should help communicate your mutual love and commitment to a life together, and essentially compliment not only who you are as a couple, but also the setting of your ceremony. Having a direction can help your musicians collaborate with you to provide selections you may not be as familiar with, and not commonly heard at weddings, but are equally lush and gorgeous. Here are suggestions of things to listen and look for. Learn the rules of your ceremony venue. If you are being married in a church or synagogue, consult your wedding contract, their website, as well as their wedding coordinators, for guidelines that ensure appropriate choices. At some houses of worship, musicians are included with the wedding fee. Many have musician regulations and may require the use of their music ministry. Most faiths see the witnessing

of your marriage as a prayer that honors the solemnity of the vows and gives glory to God. They will want to ensure that your music is beautiful, prayerful, and accessible to people present who share your faith traditions, and thus was intended for sacred use. With that in mind, your music can create a transcendent and holy ceremony experience. Hire musicians. Ideally, you should have all your musicians hired and/ or committed 6 months prior to your ceremony. It’s often more helpful to find musicians before choosing your wedding music. Great musicians can help you choose beautiful, appropriate music, and create beautiful arrangements (adaptation of a composition) for some portions of your ceremony if necessary; at the very least, you want to make sure your musicians are capable of playing or singing whatever you chose.
Where will you find musicians to lead your wedding music? If you’re getting married in your place of worship, your music director can share available resources. If not or if not included by the venue, I strongly recommend hiring professional musicians. That investment will keep the beautifully detailed rite from being diminished by a less than desired musical experience. They can use your budget to determine the number of instruments you need, and will be able to troubleshoot any situation that may arise at your ceremony, without making any of your guests the wiser. Expect to pay: music schools don’t charge discount tuition; neither do professional unions. Some couples invite musically talented family members or friends that are professional musicians or are devoted amateurs to provide music. I cannot overemphasize that this has limits. As much as you love your family, don’t put your ceremony in the hands of someone without significant musical experience. You would be better served to work with loved ones who frequently perform at weddings. Ensure you choose people already familiar with the structure of your ceremony and the music you may have in mind. They also should be knowledgeable about the venue, various genres of music, as well as aspects of your ceremony that include music, such as sung prayers and various liturgical seasons. Ask your ceremony venue and/or your wedding planner for advice on professional musicians, visit wedding websites for suggestions, and ask family and friends who have been recently married for recommendations…if you were there and liked the music, you’ll like what you have at your wedding! Make sure the instrumentation fits the space. Getting married in a garden? You should choose pieces that work well for instruments with sound that travels well acoustically (i.e. strings and brass), not anything written for organ or electric instruments. Is your ceremony in a church? The organ may have a trumpet setting, negating the need for a trumpeter, but still provide gorgeous sound. You want to ensure that the music compliments your ceremony AND its setting, and also won’t overpower its place within the program. If you are getting married in a hall and are looking for an accompanist, ensure that they will have an instrument they can bring with them or the venue will provide one for their use (e.g. a keyboard or digital piano). w w w . n o l aw ed d i n g g u i d e. co m

(continued from pg. 177)
The musician may charge more if they have to provide their own large instrument; be prepared to pay. Your soundtrack should reflect your personalities. Your musicians will be able to guide you some excellent resources to listen to options for your ceremony, but make sure your selections reflect you. If you two have a favorite hymn, incorporate it into your ceremony. If you are fans of a particular composer, you could feature only his or her music. If you are a bride with a more reserved temperament, choose a bridal entrance with instrumentation that makes you feel comfortable and beautiful. You probably would like to have a warm entrance featuring piano, strings, or an organ piece with string settings, rather than a bombastic, strong entrance to brass instruments. The same goes with your recessional music as a couple: would you like a jubilant or a more triumphal chord struck as you exit? Secular ceremonies also offer unique opportunities to include music that highlights who you are. Find a musical setting of a beloved poem. You could honor your parents or your cultural background/s with a particular music selection. Music is a part of our shared humanity and making selections and working with the right people will truly make every heart present at your ceremony sing. Happy planning!

Alternate Wedding Registry Ideas
T
raditionally, when a couple is engaged, their wedding registry takes place at stores like Target and Bed Bath & Beyond. They use a scanner gun to pick out towels, bed sheets, kitchen supplies, etc. This act is great for the couple that requires these items to fill a new house. But what about the couples that have already lived together? After the wedding, they will go back to a furnished home.
More options are popping up in the wedding registry world. Alternative wedding registries are turning into a trend that isn’t going away any time soon. The Nola Wedding Guide has put together some options to help couples find the perfect gifts for them - gifts and memories that will last a lifetime.
by Kelly Massicot weddingfutures.com, wedding attendees can purchase securities, stocks, or shares in the name of the couple. Preparing financially for the future can really help a couple that has just spent their own money on their wedding and honeymoon. This option can also allow the couple to prepare for their future children and help set up college funds to pay for future schooling. Lagniappe There are a ton of little odds and ends that every couple needs and can be made easy by alternative regis-
Honey-Fund Use your wedding registry as an opportunity to have the honeymoon of a lifetime. This option allows your wedding guests to contribute to the activities you get to do on your honeymoon. Book a couple’s massage, snorkeling, a hiking trip, or a zip-line adventure and have your guests to thank for it. House and Home Another alternate registry idea is having your guests’ help you build or rebuild the house of your dreams. Instead of adding a blender to your long list of towels and bed sheets, you can get your friends and family to help build a counter and cabinet to house that blender. There are plenty of websites to help you set up a home registry. Idofoundation.com and depositagift. com are two examples. At idofoundation.com, they are partnered with stores like Home Depot & Target. They will also donate the cash equivalent of 6% of everything you register and is bought, to a charity of your choosing. Registering at depositagift.com allows wedding guests to see a list of wants for the couple and deposit money to each fund. This allows the couple to register for multiple items and receive the money directly, giving them the freedom to build the home of their dreams. Funds Turning a wedding registry into a stock option can give the couple a financial platform to start their lives. At

tries. Already have a house? Let your guests’ help you get a new puppy! Set up a way for your friends and family to contribute to a new family car! Set up a wine registry, or have each one of your guests bring their favorite book, movie, or board game and start a collection with your new spouse. Use websites like simpleregistry.com or merciregistry.com to combine all of your favorite items from sites like Etsy or Ebay into one location for your guests to buy for you. There are even registry options for gift cards to numerous shops, stores and restaurants.
Planning a wedding doesn’t always have to go by specific guidelines. Each couple is different and wants different things than the next. This thought process should be brought to every aspect of the wedding process, including wedding registries. If you and your fiancé already have a house or everything that goes in it, than do something out of the ordinary. Take a trip; buy a pet, save for your future children. Be smart about your wedding registry. After all, how many blenders does one need?

Maid of Honor Duties
Y
ou have been chosen to be the Maid of Honor at your friend’s wedding. I hope that you are excited, because it is a great privilege and one that not everyone gets to experience. You will be the bride’s friend, go - between, sounding board and confidant throughout the entire wedding planning process. You may even be the one person she will choose to release her frustration on at times. Bridezilla, anyone? Anyway, hold on tight because it should be a wild, fun and unforgettable experience. The bride chose you because she considers you her closest friend and because she believes in you. Try to take as much pressure off of her as possible. Perhaps you can arrange a small get-together with all of the bridesmaids so that everyone can socialize in a relaxed environment and discuss dress fittings, the bachelorette party, etc. Always remember that although you are in charge of coordinating the bridesmaids, you should always be diplomatic, kind and courteous. Keep the ship sailing smoothly and deal with any problems in a calm and rational way. Planning the Bridal Shower is one of the most fun and practical duties that you will have. This event is traditionally an opportunity for the bride & groom to be showered with gifts to establish their new home. It is also a time for both families, friends and bridal party to spend some relaxing time together prior to the wedding. Go above and beyond in your planning. Be creative! You alone can set the entire tone for the wedding day with your decisions. Consider... ‘Girls only’ or Couples shower • Decide the location • Choose a blank invitation package and create on your computer (inexpensive and classy) • Encourage the bride to register for gifts • Only invite wedding guests • Hold the shower at least two months prior to the wedding in the afternoon • Make sure to give party favors to all guests • Decorate in a creative and fun way • Choose some fun games to play (ideas online) • Choose the food (sandwiches, dips) • And make sure you get a great cake for the shower
by Troy Marks Extras Put some thought into making the bride’s wedding day experience as pleasant and stress-free as possible. Some ways that you may do this include: Be the first one to arrive and the last one to leave • Make sure she has something to eat or drink • Make sure that the bridesmaids are aware of all obligations • Assist the photographer and videographer with identifying family and bridal party members • Pay attention to the first dance • Make sure the bridal party is ready for their dance so as not to waste valuable reception time • Assist in the cake cutting if needed • Make sure the best man is ready for the garter toss • Assist in seeing the bride off to her honeymoon and make sure she hasn’t forgotten anything Here are some other ways you can help support your friend! Reassure her that you are there for her! • Help address invitations • Plan the bride’s shower • Help the bride dress and finish packing • Take the bride’s going away outfit to the reception • Bring emergency items • Hold the groom’s ring during the ceremony • Hold the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony • Help the bride with her gown, veil and train • Sign the marriage license • Offer a toast to the bride and groom at the reception • Help the bride change into her going away outfit • Take the bride’s wedding gown home after the reception • Mail the wedding announcements on the day of the wedding or the day after The act of giving to others is one of the greatest gifts we have to offer as human beings. Be the Maid of Honor that you would like to have. Be accountable. The bride has put her trust in you on the biggest day of her life. Who knows, if you are not yet married, perhaps one day she will return the favor as your Matron of Honor. w w w . n o l aw ed d i n g g u i d e. co m

wedding dress storage
I
t was love at first sight, the perfect fit for your perfect day - your wedding dress. Although you wore it only once, if you take as much care in preserving your wedding dress as you did in choosing it, then it can be enjoyed as a family heirloom for years to come-symbolizing love and family. Here are a few tips to keep your beloved garment as beautiful as the day you wore it. 1. You can either have your dress professionally preserved, or you can do it yourself. Either way, your dress should be cleaned within six weeks following your wedding day. Even the smallest stains cause the dress to yellow over time. 2.
Professional gown preservation costs between $150 and $500, depending on the amount of soilage. It is recommended to bring your dress to a reputable dry cleaner who cleans about 100 dresses or more a year.
3. If you choose to take things into your own hands, then you must first decide between box and hanger storage. It may be more practical to store the dress in a box, but hanger storage is the best way to prevent hard-to-remove creases. Either way, buy plenty of acid-free tissue paper. 4. For box storage, line an acid-free cardboard box with the tissue paper and lay the hem of the dress in the box. Fold the dress like an accordion, putting tissue paper between each fold. Stuff the bodice of the dress with crumpled tissue. Put some layers of tissue on top and put on the lid (make sure the lid is solid and does not have a plastic window). Store the box in a cool, dry closet. Check the condition of the dress each year, and re-pack so the folds are in different places. 5. For hanger storage, wrap a wide hanger with cotton batting and cover it with muslin. Buy an acid-free cardboard “dress shaper” and place it over the hanger. Wrap it in tissue and place the dress over it. Stuff the bodice of the dress and any deep folds with the acid-free tissue paper. Cover the dress with a muslin garment bag and hang it in a cool, dry closet, taking care not to crush it with other clothing. Check the dress each year and wash the muslin cover.
