According to the statement, Armenian Deputy Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan

met with the Ambassador Tuesday evening. Tonoyan briefed Mr Kasprzyk on the situation at the contact line and Azerbaijan’s provocative actions. The role of the OSCE in mitigating the tension in the conflict zone, as well as the necessity to urgently install monitoring and incident investigation mechanisms was underscored. As per the operative information received from the Karabakh Defense Army, throughout Tuesday and at this moment the adversary continues to intensively shell the entire frontline and the civilian settlements, Karabakh Defense Army press-service reports. Pursuant to the statement, the Azerbaijani side is using mortars of different calibers, 85, 100, 122 and 152 mm cannons, MM-21 (Grad) multiple rocket launcher, and 9M33 M3 anti-aircraft autocannon.

Garcetti Commemorates Genocide, Condemns Artsakh Violence Los Angeles - Mayor Eric Garcetti issued a statement commemorating the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and also condemning the violence in Artsakh. Below is the Garecetti’s statement. “People across Los Angeles and our entire region are coming together this weekend to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the start of the Armenian Genocide. As we remember the 1.5 million lives lost to this atrocity, we are reminded of our obligation to acknowledge the horrors of the past and condemn the aggression of today. I am deeply troubled by recent reports of violence out of Nagorno-Karabakh, due to a break in the ceasefire negotiated with Azerbaijan in 1994. This violence has a deep impact in L.A. and surrounding areas, which is home to the largest Armenian community outside of Armenia. The path to a resolution in this conflict must be one of peace and not war. In standing up for this annual commemoration, and against the violence of today, we bend the arc of history toward a truth that cannot be denied: the Armenian people have endured great suffering that deserves full and unqualified acknowledgment — and they should never stand alone in the demand for justice.”

2 Azerbaijani Military Planes Landed In Israel During Karabakh Attacks Two Azerbaijani military planes reportedly landed in Israel earlier this month, at the height of this month’s Azerbaijani attacks on the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, The Times of Israel reported Tuesday. In the first week of April, a publicly accessible online flight database twice picked up a large cargo plane belonging to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry entering Israeli airspace and flying to the Uvda military airfield in the south of the country, according to the report in the Israeli daily Haaretz. An Ilyushin 76 cargo plane, flying under the call sign AZAF8 (Azerbaijani Air Force) is said to have arrived in Israel on April 4 and again on April 6, having come from the direction of Turkey. The planes apparently stayed on the ground for two to three hours. This is not the first time Israel has been accused of helping Azerbaijan in the conflict, but allowing an Azerbaijani military aircraft to land in Israel would represent an upgrade in cooperation between the two countries, which have long maintained cordial ties. In the same week that the planes are said

to have landed in Israel, reports emerged that the Azerbaijani army had used an Israeli-made attack drone to target an Armenian convoy in the region. A press spokesman for Armenia’s Defense Ministry said on his Facebook page that the Azerbaijani army was using the Israeli-made kamikaze Harop drone. The Harop is small enough to be able to skirt enemy aircraft detection systems and can find targets by radar or radio wave, as well as by remote piloting. Artsrun Hovhannisyan told the state-run Russian agency Ria Novosti that the drone had apparently fixed on a bus full of “Armenian volunteers” and killed seven of them, the Washington Post reported. Azerbaijan is Israel’s biggest oil supplier, a key recipient of Israeli arms, and a partner in a complicated three-way dance with Iran. In 2011, the Israeli defense contractor Aeronautics opened a military drone factory in Azerbaijan. The two countries signed a $1.4 billion defense deal in February 2012 which focused on drones and missile defense systems.

Rep. Schiff: Gravely Disappointed President Obama Will Leave Office Without Fulfilling Commitment to Recognize Armenian Genocide Washington, DC Today, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the lead sponsor of the Armenian Genocide Truth and Justice Resolution in Congress, released the following statement after President Obama did not use the word "genocide" to describe the Armenian Genocide ahead of Sunday's commemoration: “I’m gravely disappointed that President Obama will now leave office without fulfilling his commitment to recognize the Armenian Genocide. For a President who knows the history so well, who spoke so passionately about the genocide as a Senator and Presidential candidate, and who has always championed human rights, the choice of silence and complicity is all the more painfully inexplicable. Remaining silent in an effort to curry favor with Turkey is as morally indefensible as it will

be ineffectual. "How many administrations must be intimidated into silence before we realize that it never changes Turkish behavior for the better and only emboldens the increasingly authoritarian regime? Recognition of the Armenian Genocide could have been a proud part of the President's legacy; instead this decision will be just another sad milestone in the struggle to prevent genocide by exposing genocide and its perpetrators." This past week, Schiff spoke on the House Floor and delivered an open letter to the President of the United States, Barack Obama, urging him to recognize the Armenian Genocide in his final year in office in advance of the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. !

Uruguayan Deputy Calls For Artsakh Recognition Uruguayan Deputy Daniel Radio asked the authorities of his country to recognize the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh in the commemoration of the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Montevideo, on Monday April 25. Radio called for the recognition of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh by Uruguay, since "there are features that al-

lows our country to make this choice. This is not an utopia: it is time for Uruguay to seriously consider this possibility and hopefully undertake that path." "I would love that in fifty years, the grandson of any of us could hear a Legislator express their pride because Uruguay was the first country to recognize NagornoKarabakh," added Radio.

US election 2016: Trump and Clinton clinch more wins Donald Trump has won presidential primaries in all five north-eastern US states voting while Hillary Clinton took four. Mr Trump called himself the Republican "presumptive nominee" after victories in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. For the Democrats, Mrs Clinton was de-

nied a clean sweep by Bernie Sanders who won in Rhode Island. Mr Trump's rivals have already shifted their attention to upcoming states. Ted Cruz and John Kasich have teamed up to help each other in the Indiana, Oregon and New Mexico primaries. Mr Trump has condemned their pact as a sign of weakness and desperation.

ABC7 Cameraman Calls Armenians ‘Thug-Type Idiots’ Los Angeles - An KABC Channel 7 cameraman was caught on tape calling Armenians “thug-type idiots,” when interviewing two Turks who were part of a counter protest at the Turkish Consulate in Los Angeles on Sunday, April 24 during the Armenian Genocide Rally for Justice. The video was posted by Ergun Kirlikovali, the former president of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations, who was being interviewed by the KABC cameraman, identified in the video as Tim. Apparently, Kirlikovali had asked an associate to videotape the KABC interview.

“I’ve noticed you guys are pretty peaceful back here and holding your ground. I haven’t tried to talk to them because most of them are like thug-type idiots,” says Tim the KABC cameraman. “Once you start talking to someone you just get a lot of ‘rarara’ behind it,” added Tim. Toward the end of the Kirlikovali’s tape, he asks Channel 7 to invite him for a discussion about what he calls “Armenian territorial claims” and “Armenian terrorists,” to which Tim, the cameraman responds “Yeah. Armenian gangs.”

GEOFFREY ROBERTSON CONFIRMS NKR'S The Los Angeles United Armenian Council LEGAL RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION Held The 101st Commemoration Of The Los Angeles - On Wednesday, April 20, centennial year commemorations of the ArArmenian Genocide

the Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly) hosted a successful book presentation of An Inconvenient Genocide: Who Now Remembers the Armenians? written by United Kingdom's leading human rights attorney and author Geoffrey Robertson QC in Universal City, CA. The event sold out, reaching over capacity. The Armenian Assembly of America was proud to feature a giant in the field of international human rights to speak to us about his findings while researching the history that led to the indisputable Armenian Genocide," Assembly Board of Trustees Co-Chair Anthony Barsamian said. "The Armenian Assembly is eager to keep this momentum going as the Assembly's Western Region office continues to do similar substantive work. Mihran Toumajan and Aline Maksoudian went above and beyond to ensure this event was a success." During the event, Barsamian discussed the Assembly's work in Washington, D.C., the Nagorno Karabakh Republic's right to self-determination, and Turkey's irresponsible actions in the region, with a direct message to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. "Mr. Erdogan, stop killing your own people. Stop killing your Kurdish population. Stop killing Christians in the region, and stop promoting violence against Karabakh Armenians," Barsamian stated during his speech. The Assembly Co-Chair introduced Robertson, who spoke about the latest edition of his book. An Inconvenient Genocide: Who Know Remembers the Armenians? was originally published in 2014, and then released for a second printing in 2015 to reflect the Armenian community's achievements and developments as a result of the

menian Genocide. He applauded the Armenian American community's tireless efforts to incorporate the Armenian Genocide in school education. "Unless we learn from the Armenian Genocide, we will not understand the Holocaust and genocides that follow," Robertson explained. Robertson also spoke about the rights of the citizens of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic and believes "independence is possible." "Armenians, the world over, are grateful for [Mr. Robertson] for bravely speaking the truth in the face of systematic denials and obfuscation of historical facts by Turkey and Azerbaijan not only on the veracity of the Armenian Genocide and the Armenian nation's rightful case for restitutive justice, but also as a champion for the self-determination and inviolability of the basic human rights of the heroic and proud Armenians of Artsakh," Assembly Western Region Director Mihran Toumajan said. "It was an honor to host Mr. Robertson and to not only hear his presentation about his book but also his thoughts and feelings regarding the current conflict in Nagorno Karabakh, which so many in our community are concerned about," Western Region Manager and Community Relations Coordinator Aline Maksoudian added. Special guests in attendance include well-known designer Michael Aram, the Honorable Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles Valery Mkrtoumian, Facing History and Ourselves Los Angeles Office Director Liz Vogel and Advisory Board Member Charlene AchkiRepko, and Congressman Adam Schiff's (DCA) District Representative Pamela Marcello.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Released A Message On April 24 Turkey and Azerbaijan “One Nation, Two States” Istanbul - Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan released a message on April 24 offering his condolences to the relatives of “Ottoman Armenians, who lost their lives under the tragic conditions of the First World War,” which has been strongly criticized by official Yerevan as “another failed manifestation of denialism.” Acting Armenian Patriarch Aram Ate!yan read Erdogan’s message during the April 24 commemoration ceremony held in Surp Asdvadzadzin Church, located in Istanbul’s Kumkapı district. “I welcome this commemoration which is taking place once again in Turkey, the most meaningful place to share the grief endured by the Ottoman Armenians, as well as to honor their memories,” read a part of Erdogan’s message, which was released both in Armenian and in Turkish. “In the lands of Anatolia, where humanitarian duties are never neglected and happiness and grief are sincerely shared, the sense of conscience and justice are held above all,” continued Erdogan in the statement, as reported by Turkey’s Daily Sabah, which also noted that the message referred to the “culture of cohabitation between Turks and Armenians” which would always be remembered. Erdogan’s denialist message then went on to warn against “politicizing history,”

and made reference to “common history” and “similar traditions.” “We will never give up working for amity and peace against those who try to politicize history through a bitter rhetoric of hate and enmity and strive to alienate the two neighboring nations, who are bound with their common history and their similar traditions,” said Erdogan in the statement. “With this in mind, I once again commemorate the Ottoman Armenians who passed away and extend my condolences to their children and grandchildren.” Armenians around the world commemorated the Armenian Genocide on April 24, and demanded an end to Turkey’s denial. Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan was quick to call Erdogan statement an explicit form of genocide denial and a way to rid his country of any responsibility of the crime, during a press conference on April 25. On April 25, Aliyev hosted a dinner in honor of Erdogan. The Turkish president is in Baku to attend the 7th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations. According to Erdogan’s official website, during the meeting the two heads of state “stressed” the notion of “One nation, two states” in their discussion of cooperation in the field of energy.

Montebello - The Los Angeles United Armenian Council held the 101st commemoration of the Armenian Genocide on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument at Bicknell Park. More than 1,000 members of Southern California’s Armenian community gathered here Saturday to reflect on the terrors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, and call for justice for atrocities both historical and contemporary, in observance of the 101st anniversary of the mass killings. Community and spiritual leaders were joined by local, state and national elected officials beneath Montebello’s towering Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument for the annual observation hosted by the United Armenian Council of Los Angeles. In addition for calling on the U.S. to recognize the genocide of 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Turks in 1915, speakers called for recognition of the current violence faced by Armenians living in the Artsakh region of Azerbaijan, where a long-running conflict escalated into deadly violence on April 2. Speakers included former U.S. Ambassador John Marshall Evans, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Burbank, Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis and Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian. Other dignitaries in attendance included U.S. Rep. Judy Chu, D-Pasadena and Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell. Garcetti joined the chorus of voices calling for federal recognition of the Armenian Genocide. “Denial opens those wounds, not just for the Armenian people, but for all of us who are thinking, feeling human beings,”

the mayor said. He added that he was thrilled last year, when tens of thousands of people joined in a march commemorating the genocide. “It was one of the largest marches in Los Angeles history,” Garcetti said. Another demonstration is planned for 1 p.m. Sunday outside the Turkish Consulate, at Wilshire Boulevard and Crescent Heights Boulevard, Garcetti reminded the audience. “I hope you will join us,” he said. Schiff also called for recognition of crimes against the Armenian people both 101 years ago, and this month. To Armenians, the word “genocide” is sacred,” Schiff said. Denial, he added, is “profane.” “Not a dime more of U.S. assistance should go to Azerbaijan. Not one dime,” Schiff said. And if Azerbaijan’s government refuses to come to the negotiating table, he called for the U.S. to recognize Artsakh as an independent state. Solis said our society must study and reflect on the past to ensure the martyrs are never forgotten, and that such an injustice is never repeated. “While we can’t change the horrors of the past and the planned massacre of a united nation, we can be driven and inspired by the stories of survivors, their strength and their perseverance,” she said.

Azerbaijan Used Almost Entire Arsenal At night, 2 Armenian Soldiers Dead The situation along the Karabakh-Azerbaijan armed confrontation zone has remained unchanged, from late Monday night to early Tuesday morning. The Azerbaijani armed forces violated the ceasefire agreement over 80 times, but this time by using virtually all types of artillery and armored vehicles in its arsenal, especially mortars, a grenade launcher, an anti-aircraft autocannon, a reactive rocket propelled howitzers, and a tank. The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Defense Army (NKR/Artsakh) informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that, aside from military posts, the adversary also launched

Grad missiles at NKR Martakert town. In addition, artillery fire was shot toward Mataghis village. As a result of this breach of the truce, NKR Defense Army servicemen Tigran Poghosyan (born in 1992) and Aram Arushanyan (born in 1972) were killed. The Artsakh army, however, took preventive measures to neutralize the aggressive actions by Azerbaijan. It dealt targeted blows to the vanguard positions and shooting posts of the adversary, causing it to suffer considerable casualties and military equipment loss. !

Yerevan Bus Explosion Suspect Was Going To Blow Up Relatives According to preliminary information, the suspect in Monday night’s bus explosion in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan was planning to blow up his relatives. Sona Truzyan, adviser to chairman of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that it was found out that the subscriber of the mobile phone card, which was found at the scene of the blast, had grievances with his relatives on domestic issues, and he planned to harm them by way of an explosive. Earlier, the Investigative Committee reported that, among other objects that are crucial in the respective criminal case, a mobile phone card was also discovered at the scene of the blast. The identity of the sub-

scriber of this card was determined. He is an Armenian citizen, and twice-convicted. A Trinitrotoluene (TNT)-type of explosive material, detonators, and various types of electrical equipment were found during the search in his residence on Tuesday. Elements and traces of TNT were also found in the bus and on the confiscated samples, and this was substantiated by the preliminary expertise conclusion. The blast had occurred in a public transport bus. The explosion was so powerful that it was heard from several kilometers, and windows were broken in nearby buildings. There are two casualties. The AGBU Nubarian Library Publishes New Issue of Études arméniennes contemporaines Sixth issue of the journal focuses on Ottoman Armenian art history In March 2016, the AGBU Nubarian Library released the sixth issue of its Études arméniennes contemporaines, a bilingual, biannual and multidisciplinary journal published in Paris. The articles in the latest issue—subtitled “Towards Inclusive Art Histories: Ottoman Armenian Voices Speak Back”—focus on Armenian arts in the Ottoman Empire. The latest issue goes beyond art history to reflect on the way Ottoman history has been treated by historians. The articles advocate challenging conventional understandings of history and critique dominant nationalist discourses. They also introduce into the historical debate silenced voices that have been deliberately excluded from history. In so doing, this volume aims to contribute to the discussion on creating inclusive, nuanced and just representations of complex pasts. All articles are available for free on the journal’s website: https://eac.revues.org/. As part of the revues.org database, Études arméniennes contemporaines is part of web-based versions of more than 400 humanities and social science journals in French and other languages. This editorial evolution enables the journal to contribute more substantively to the field of Armenian studies. Contributors to this issue include Helin Anahit, Eray Çaylı, Vazken Khatchig Davidian, Aikaterini Gegisian, David Low, Gizem Tongo and Alyson WhartonDurgaryan. Turkish Intellectuals Who Have Recognized The Armenian Genocide

111 - Attila Tuygan By Hambersom Aghbashian Attila Tuygan (born in 1957 in IstanbulTurkey), is a well known Turkish writer, editor, translator, researcher and human rights activist. He is a graduate of Istanbul University– Faculty of Literature. Attila Tuygan was born to a military family. His paternal grandfather was a Young Turk pasha serving in Thessalonica during the Balkan Wars, and his father was a Pan-Turanist staff colonel. After the 1980 military coup d’etat in Turkey, although he tried to go underground, he was exposed to various prosecution processes as a political defendant. Attila Tuygan wrote many articles about the genocides and their consequences, most notably, those titled ‘the Armenian Deportation and Trabizond in German Documents’ (Sanat ve Hayat, 2007), ‘Ambassador Morgenthau’ (Agos, 2006), ‘Turkification of the Anatolian Cities’ Names’ (Özgür Gündem, 2014), etc. He is also performing editorship in some independent and dissident publishing houses. Attila Tuygan has translated a long list of books into Turkish, many of them related to the Armenian Genocide. Attila Tuygan, is the translator of professor Dora Zakayan’s book "An Armenian Physician’s Ordeal. The Chronicle of Garabet Hatcherian." The translated book was published by Ragıp Zarakolu, who is an important figure in Turkey: On May 3, 2007, Zarakolu was tried under Article 301 for the publication of the book. This case had its first hearing in August 2005, when the prosecutor demanded a sixyear prison sentence for Zarakolu for “insulting the Army” and also “insulting Turkishness” by publishing this book. Attila Tuygan, the translator, testified as a defense witness and stated that as the translator of the book, he held himself responsible. As a result, Zarakolu was acquitted, but a new trial against the book under Article 301, with Tuygan held responsible, was expected. (1) In December 2008, 200 prominent Turkish intellectuals released an apology

for the "Great Catastrophe of 1915". This was a clear reference to the Armenian Genocide. The brief text of the apology states “My conscience does not accept the insensitivity showed to and the denial of the Great Catastrophe that the Ottoman Armenians were subjected to in 1915. I reject this injustice and for my share, I empathize with the feelings and pain of my Armenian brothers and sisters. I apologize to them." Attila Tuygan is one of the Turkish intellectuals who signed it.(2) In an article published on November 10, 2014, Attila Tuygan wrote about turkification of the places names by changing them from their original Armenian, Greek and Syriac-Aramaic names to Turkish names. It is mentioned in the article that Ottoman authorities deliberately distorted the Armenian and Greek place names and tried to connect them to Turkish or Kurdish origin; even places of worship were given new names. The place names’ "nationalization" process by the Unionists was continued by Kemalist ideological successors. Distorting of the historical and cultural heritage dating back to centuries, and the rejection, denial of the Armenian Genocide is to forget the consequences of genocide and nothing else, according to the writer. (3) The first commemoration of the Armenian Genocide in Aintab, held on March 21, 2015. The commemoration was organized by the Greens and the Left Party of the Future. Party spokesperson Sevil Turan, Khatchig Mouradian, editor Attila Tuygan and translator Murat Uçanar also spoke. The opening remarks were delivered by Celal Deniz. (4) According to Voice online, December 29, 2016, Attila Tuygan, wished in one of his writings that he could apologize to the Armenians. The following are some abstract from the same source: "The Armenian Genocide is a byproduct of conflict between (Armenians and Turks) as a result of Ottoman Turkish subjugation. The European Great Powers, emerged in Anatolia in

search for Armenian reforms and the Unionists where to seek ways to neutralize these developments. The "Armenian Question" was used as an excuse to get rid of the Armenians. Balkan War ended by soil loss, and the Turkish nationalist movement with the support of Union-Progress was alive, thus, methods such as confiscation of the goods of the Christian communities have become a national economic policy." (5) The long list of translated books by Attila Tuygan include: Ermeni Soykırımında Kurumsal Roller [Institutional Roles in the Armenian Genocide, Vahakn N. Dadrian, (Belge, 2004)], Türk Kaynaklarında Ermeni Soykırımı [Armenian Genocide in Turkish Resources, V. N. MEP Frank Engel Says It Is Necessary To Recognize Idependence Of Artsakh For Ensuring Security Of Nagorno Karabakh’s People It is necessary to recognize the independence of Artsakh to ensure the security of Nagorno Karabakh’s people. MEP, head of EU-Artsakh friendship group Frank Engel told about this in a press conference at “Armenpress” media hall. “After the 4-day war of early April, this is the first time I visited Stepanakert. I believe that it is better if I get acquainted to the situation on site. And the impressions I had in Artsakh confirmed my concerns. The war waged by Azerbaijan is a consequence of hatred that has been propagated by Azerbaijani authorities for years. The situation grows more complex considering Turkish involvement in all these”, Frank Engel said. He mentioned that at the moment negotiations and discussions are stalled as the situation dictates so. The MEP believes that now the issue must urgently be put on the table with a focus of recognition of Karabakh’s independence. “The international community is obliged to protect the people of Artsakh. The aspiration of Azerbaijan is to ruin the

NKR and everything that exists there. From now on no one must have any doubts that Azerbaijan was the aggressor. The murder of the elderly people, cutting off their ears, beheading soldiers, and the act of proudly disseminating the photos by Azerbaijanis evidencing all these is a blatant proof who was the aggressor. Currently people commemorate the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and we must clearly understand that another genocide may occur”, the MEP said. In his words, all these events lead to a conclusion that the people of Artsakh are endangered and that can be prevented only by recognizing the independence of Artsakh. Frank Engel stated that he will make efforts together with his college MEPs for the recognition of Artsakh’s independence.

One-Woman Show Shake The Earth To Be Presented At Abril Bookstore A 2015 New York International Fringe Festival "Best Bet" Glendale, CA - After two sold-out shows in the NoHo Arts District, New York writer/performer LOUSINE SHAMAMIAN is bringing her explosive one-woman show SHAKE THE EARTH to ABRIL BOOKSTORE - 415 E. Broadway, Glendale, CA on TUESDAY, MAY 10, 2016 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20, available at Abril Bookstore and on itsmyseat.com. But, as a lesbian, she may be the last person her great-grandfather Georgi would want to give the account of his remarkable story of survival. Driven by the 100th anniversary of the Genocide, and the Turkish government's aggressive denials, Lousine finds the courage to speak. Lousine Shamamian was born in Armenia and raised in Brooklyn. Her theatre debut was as Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance (2nd grade). International Community Does Not Realize Seriousness Of Threat From Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem An event dedicated to the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide took place near the monument “Our victims” in the Republic Square, Strasbourg on April 24. “Armenpress” was informed about this from the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of MFA Armenia. Armenia 's Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe Armen Papikyan, Deputy Mayor of Strasbourg, other officials, representatives of NGOs and the Armenian community were present at the event, who paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. In his speech Armen Papikyan particularly referred to Armenia’s century-old struggle against denialism, stating that in the 21st century Armenia has assumed an important role in fighting against genocides and crimes against humanity. The Permanent representative of Armenia to CoE also touched upon the recent aggression of Azerbaijan against Nagorno Karabakh and in that context stated that the atrocities committed by the Ottoman Empire in 1915 is now repeated in the Middle East by militant groups and the Azerbaijani forces against the civilians and servicemen of Artsakh. Armen Papikyan expressed

deep sorrow for the fact that the international community does not fully realize the seriousness of the general threat stemming from the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem, considering the state policy of anti-Armenianism and denialism in those countries, and the gradually growing violation of human rights, freedom of speech, European values and other democratic principles. In his speech Deputy Mayor of Strasbourg Rafik-Elmrini reconfirmed the unconditioned faithfulness to Armenia and the Armenian people, putting a strong emphasis on inadmissibility of the denial of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey, as denialism impedes reconciliation opportunities, engendering new crimes against humanity in different corners of the world.
