Great Start

Every since the start of the school year, our club has been off to a great start. There has been a huge increase in member participation compared to last year, mostly consisting of freshmen. Every month, we have gotten multiple events and socials planned. By keeping this up, I believe we will continue to have success in the club throughout the school year. The goal for this year was to provide events that are not all marathons for the members. Last year, we had too many marathons and by the end of the year, the members got burned out. So far, we’ve provided the members with events like Tango Tab, Feeding the Homeless, Tri-city Clean Up and a few marathons like Pink Walk, Turkey Trot, and the Dallas Heart Walk. We’ve also plan to provide more socials like the baking social, pumpkin carving social, and movie night social. We’ve also had a donation drive for the SPCA. Compared to last year, we have more things planned out. For the fundraising aspect, we have some ideas planned. Charging members a few bucks at socials like the baking social and pumpkin carving social helps a lot with the cost of supplies.

So far, the officers thought of fundraising at boba shops like Ding Tea. Having a baking a bake sale is another good idea. We’ve also raised the membership fee to an extra $5 Fundraising early on would help a lot with the cost of LEDCON in the spring. Last year, the officers didn’t plan that many fundraisers so the cost of LEDCON was a bit high for the members. The president had suggest that we promote LEDCON early so by the spring, the members would be more excited and having more information about attending.

Because only 4 officers attended last year, we hope to have a lot of members attending. Having a large group of members

attending is beneficial because it would allow them to see what Key Club is about and how other clubs are doing. Although cost can be a huge factor, we hope that lots of fundraiser and promoting it at every meeting will build up the excitement.

Overall, the 20222023 has been off to a great start.

With the new, eager freshmen class coming in member participation will not be an issue and will help bring more excitement at events. The officers have lots of things planned for the coming months. I’m excited to see the growth of our club as the year progresses.

Going Green

Every year, our Key Club does a project that most of our events and fundraisers revolve around. The events are supposed to help the cause of the project, and as a club, we must also fundraise and advertise for the project. This year, we are planning to do something related to the environment due to how much pollution has and will affect our lives. Specifically, we are looking into beautifying our school’s courtyard. As of right now, our school’s courtyard is not in the best condition as little attention and maintenance are given to it. For a place that’s supposed to be lively and reserved for social gatherings, it appears barren and abandoned to outsiders. All the trees and bushes are either dead or dying, and the ground is littered with debris or trash that has flown over from the wind. We are hoping to plant more vegetation like flowers and to tend to the trees and bushes, in hopes that they will start growing again. Not only will we add to the courtyard, but we will also clean up the area and pick up any trash.

Of course, this beautification will not last forever without care, so we are looking into regularly maintaining the area in the future. This project is not exactly cheap, and we will need an efficient grant for it to happen. That is why our events will be planned around this project, so we can receive a YOF grant to carry it out. We have had a TriCity Cleanup event very recently, and we are planning to seek out more events similar to it to promote a positive environment. In order to receive the YOF grant, our Key Club will also be sure

to plan fundraisers around the project and leave a sizeable portion of our money for it. Finally, we will advertise this After all, small efforts like this will build up to make a big change.

project and our goals for it to show our dedication. By doing all this for our courtyard, we hope to attract more people and clubs to use it for social gatherings. In the past, little to no people were aware that the courtyard can be reserved, but by giving our courtyard more life, Key Club will advertise

let the school know that it can be used. After everyone sees our endeavors to change the courtyard, we hope to eventually spread awareness to our classmates to be more wary of their actions that may affect the environment.

In the grand scheme of things, changing one courtyard make not seem like much, however it is.
