Rebel Outdoors was started in 2019 to deliver an experience to the full size rigs in the outdoors community Whether you are inspired to adventure or you’re just looking for some entertainment, Rebel Outdoors is here to give you what you need! I bring a unique experience from my military career of being in a CAAT section living, surviving and fighting out of vehicles The center of operations is the 2021 RAM 2500 cummins Moose build Much of what I do centers around this vehicle platform so it needs to be as rugged as a moose! I share how to videos, gear tutorials, and of course my adventures on different platforms Returning home from active duty I set out to share my experiences and knowledge while exploring my beautiful home state of Michigan and this great country we live in!

"In August 2021, a group of friends and family composed of Michigan Tech alumni, Eagle Scouts, environmental engineers, outdoors enthusiasts, and history nerds purchased the former Calumet Air Force Station from Keweenaw County with the goal of saving the structures, restoring the property, and opening it up to the public. The group chose to name this endeavor the Open Skies Project in reference to the Treaty on Open Skies, an agreement between NATO and Warsaw Pact nations at the end of the Cold War that allowed for surveillance of each other's military bases The name seemed very fitting, as the goal is to open this military station to public viewing once again!"

It is no secret that Copper Harbor has no cell signal If you need to contact the outside world or to call 911, here are the best places to go

Where is the cell Wservice? here is the cell service?

"Aside from the former Calumet Air Force Station, Mount Horace Greeley is mostly uninhabited, with only a few old logging trails cutting through the forest The incredible views from the summit look down on nearby Lake Gratiot to the south east, Mount Bohemia and Lac la Belle to the east, and Lake Superior stretching all the way around the Keweenaw from the north west to the south east."

CONVOY LEAVES FROM TRAILS END ENTRANCE 3O MINUTES BEFORE TOURS ARE FREE OF CHARGE, DONATIONS TO OPEN SKIES ENCOURAGED NO SIGNUP NEEDED, WAIVER MUST BE SIGNED UPON ARRIVAL

"Mount Horace Greeley is located deep in the wilderness of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula near the former copper mining towns of Phoenix and Central. At 1540' above sea level, it is the highest point in Keweenaw County, the 9th highest

in the Upper Peninsula, and the 14th highest in Michigan It is also the snowiest place in Michigan (and possibly the whole Midwest) with over 302" of snowfall so far in the 2021 2022 season."

Four miles up Brockway Mountain Drive there is great cell signal at the summit lookout and you may catch some bars on the way up.

OZARK OVERLAND ADVENTURES

SPEAKER PROFILES

We attendees at this meeting had no idea how much our lives would change in the next five years, and how much this community would come to mean to all of us. We also had no idea how much love and friendship that Todd and Carol had to give, and how much loss they and the community would suffer.

the koar community

We are thrilled to have TC Teardrops as KOAR title sponsor for the third year in a row, and for the role they have played in making this event a success and this community as vibrant as possible.

Creating community was goal number one. Carol and Todd Mowrer were at that first meeting at Northwinds Adventures along with Chris Offenwanger, Rob Ozarowicz and myself We were all in agreement there is a need for an event for the Upper Midwest overlanding and adventure travel community, and it has to be here, in the Upper Peninsula All we wanted was to gather with those overland and offroad camping types we passed on the highways and backroads as we traveled the upper peninsula This is how KOAR was born

To say that Todd and Carol love the Keweenaw is an understatement, and their love for the overland community and the KOAR event is just as strong. They travel the country to promote their teardrop trailers, and tell everyone they meet about this laid back, overland family reunion. They have helped shape the event, have given us guidance and support beyond measure, and were instrumental in bringing KOAR to Trails End in Copper Harbor in 2020.

by cindy bpope y cindy pope

Todd, Carol, you have been an example of grace under pressure and this community is stronger because of you Your friendship and kindness have lifted us all up at one time or another. Heck, I did not hardly mention your business or products in this article! Pair that thought with the idea that overlanding is not about the journey OR the destination. It is about the people you meet along the way.

TCTeardrops,Wausau,WI www.tcteardrops.com (715)842-0920

But even though this last year has taken Rob from us, and right before the last KOAR, Todd & Carol's dear friend Doug, this is not a story of sadness or sorrow. We all have had loss, sickness and pain This is a story of the gratefulness, learning and growth We have watched those around us change, grow into the voids left behind and open their arms to new opportunities instead of shrink, diminish and fade into grief Yes, the losses still sting BAD But seeing people lending helping hands, learning, coping, taking leaps of faith and doubling down on gratitude is inspiring

In Hancock you can stop at the Quincy Mine which sits at the top of the hill overlooking Houghton and Hancock A quick stop there for pictures or a longer stop for a mine tour is totally worth it

All jokes about the U.P. being Wisconsin's hat and cheesehead insults aside, the folks at Wisconsin Overland and Michigan Overland have had a loose, informal partnership when it comes to keeping the areas we like to camp and travel clean and litter free Northology hosts a KORC cleanup campout in the spring and their KOAR event attendees have pitched in on the KORC Beach Cleanups. Add to that the willingness of folks from Wisconsin & Michigan Overland to attend these events and help clean the trash bins at High Rock Bay and Schlatter Lake emp tied while staying there, the evidence is clear that it is not the overlander that is causing the problem but is helping solve these issues.

KORC / KOAR overland community partnership

We hope to work with KORC, the USFS and DNR offices again in both Michigan and Wisconsin to identify and offer assistance to agencies on cleanups and other stewardship opportunities. Join KORC today and keep your eyes peeled for upcoming cleanup events.

Our members come from a variety of backgrounds, from resource professionals and hospitality workers to students and retirees All manner of outdoor enthusiast is involved because we are all concerned with what is at stake: the potential loss or degradation of the vast landscapes found in the heart of the Keweenaw Peninsula. It's not just forestland that could be lost. At risk is our way of life." KORC
