Embracing change Photo: ŠPhil Nielsen

Musings from the Editor Lately, there have been many changes taking place. Not only in the world, but in our personal lives as well. It seems like life is imploding on many right now, and while we struggle to make sense of why it is happening, we must have faith that there is a brighter future ahead. When we look to the world around us and see planes being blasted out of the sky, or bombs being dropped and harming children, we wonder – how do we make a difference, when does it end? In our personal lives, when one thing after another bombards us, rocking us to our core, we wonder – “what have I done to deserve this?” It is not so much “deserving, "as it is embracing what is. The bumpy road we have been experiencing is all part and parcel of stepping into our authenticity. The more resistance we put up, the harder change pushes back at us. It might seem that “change” is being too forceful, taking away many of our joys and comforts. It might be taking away our beloveds too early as well. Yet, we cannot foretell the future, so we cannot see the bigger picture of why the dots are connecting the way they are. What will come up with the next dot we connect to? The most amazing things come out of change and often we cannot see the benefits of what is happening now, until years have past. It is important to embrace all this change, as uncomfortable as it might be, for this is the way of life. Life is constantly changing, we only have to watch the calendar and its seasons to see this. If the past couple of years are any indicator, we had best all learn to accept that life is ever changing. The time of being comfortable for many years with the status quo seems to be gone. The time has come to really embrace “go with the flow”, and find out what brings balance to us. They will be our new tools, added to the ones we pack around in our toolboxes. They will blend beautifully as we venture forth, one day at a time, to a brighter future in which we are the benefactors of peace and joy.

Brian Thompson

i've come to appreciate those small moments that are 'oft ignored or overlooked, those in-between moments, those lazy, easy mornings, those languid sips of freshly brewed beans, while getting lost watching the language of the waves, feeling those intentional first footsteps as your toes dip into the morning's cold sand, witnessing a robin shake off its wings while dipping in a puddle for a bath... when you slow yourself down and allow your senses to awaken, when you're mindful, present and aware, life then tends to leap into your lap, it wags its tail and licks you in the face, happy you've stopped to say hello. when the small and ignored become noticed, the daunting, once looming and large, fade away and become obsolete. bt 07.26.2014 Brian’s Website—www.zenthinking.net

How often to do feel like you are failing? How often do you feel like people do not understand you or your actions? How often do you look to the external (peers, family, job, money, possessions) to assess if you are making the grade? How many beliefs are deeply rooted in you that are not truly what you believe? You might think that once you left school you left “grades” and the importance they held behind you. Yet each day we assess, and are assessed, on a myriad of details. We might have given up the A-B-C’s of school report cards but evaluation continues. The time has come to cast aside our fear of not making the grade according to others and be our true authentic selves. By now most of you realize that by being you, you don’t always win brownie points or A’s from your family and peers. Yet if you get a sense of pride for who you are and what you are accomplishing, you are doing it right, and you are making the grade! It is important right now to stay the course. To be your authentic self, no matter how others respond to you. It is important to recall that what others think, say, or do, is their journey and not yours. The people who walk beside us at any given time can be valuable cheerleaders or catalysts to help us change. Sometimes our greatest growth comes from not “making the grade” according to other’s standards. It drives us to succeed better than any motivational speech ever could. It affords us the opportunity to truly learn what we believe and discover who we truly are. They gift us with being able to be ourselves in a host of situations, either by having us stand alone, or standing beside us as cheerleaders. Live and let live is a great motto, however, not everyone adheres to it. Check out yourself – you have probably given unsolicited wisdom to others a time or two in the history of your life. The gift of being offered wisdom that does not resonate with you is a reminder that it is their opinion and their truth. You do not have to be upset, or strike back, you need to allow them their truth. If it hits a chord strongly with you – examine the grain of truth you have already dismissed and are ignoring within yourself. It is an indicator worth watching for, as it shows us that we have doubt in our actions or words as well. The other side of belief is doubt, belief cannot exist without it. When you know something in your heart, you trust, and that is the antidote to doubt. Where do your beliefs come from? What keeps you glued to that belief? Your beliefs have to be in sync with your heart's desires. There must be balance, and if what someone says to you regarding anything hits a chord – be honest with yourself and see why it does. By doing this simple exercise you are being responsible and respectfully honoring yourself. In life’s journey we encounter many obstacles, the key is to have the courage and heart to follow your own path, be who you are, and love who you are no matter what. Do not allow setbacks or betrayal from others to dampen the passion to live life to the fullest – for you – not for others. The only person qualified to grade you is you, you get to decide the curve, how many goals you can reach for in one year, and how many days

www.nourishpublication.com

can you go with pure joy and no negativity? You get to decide what is important to you. One of my favorite parenting techniques has been to pause instead of reacting and question “ is it life threatening? Is it harming others? Is it morally wrong?” Chances are in the grand scheme of things, it is not. If you are 40 and want to dye your hair green and others don’t agree with it – as long as you like it, and want to experience it, go for it – you might regret it, but you will have experienced it and it will grow out. The naysayers and cheerleaders join us on our journey, some will come and go freely, others will stay for a while and then leave. The one constant is you. That is what qualifies you to “grade” how you are doing. If you continue to have others set the grade, you give them control over your life. If you are always doing things for others in order to gain approval or because you feel you should, then you are giving control to them. Over time you end up losing the essence of who you are and eventually take little or no responsibility for what happens in your life. In fact, I believe this is what has happened to many in our society, too much time trying to please others and societal dictates to know what lies at their core. It also makes it easier to blame others for life not going well than to blame ones-self. If you are constantly looking for the opinion of others, how can you know your own opinion on the subject? Most influential people, the ones we look up to, that inspire us, that have given us ease of life, did not necessarily make the grade within their circle of family and friends. Often they had the world saying they would not succeed. I am sure they had a hard row to hoe and met with opposition daily! They created waves just by being who they were, standing for what they believed in and pushing forward no matter how crazy people thought they were. Yet they followed their hearts and found bliss. Some of them have been immortalized and recognized for their contribution post-mortem, but many have made their mark while alive and we are very grateful for their contributions. While you and I might not be recognized for following what we believe and where our hearts lead us, I can promise you our lives will be fuller, more satisfying, we will be discovering in each moment who we truly are. It will contain less stress, and more joy. There might be times when we are standing alone and other times when we are surrounded by cheerleaders. Yet within our heart we will be filled with joy as we check back and see how some years we had straight “A’s”! Life is for living and enjoying the life we are carving out while we are traipsing through the years. If you live each moment knowing that there is no right or wrong, only the result of now, you can’t help but make the grade.

It is another glorious summer day in the lower mainland. A gentle summer breeze wafts through across my patio causing the daisies to dance in the garden. A hummingbird flits close on its way to the honeysuckle and the sun’s warmth has heightened the sweet smell of the flowers. I am in deep appreciation for summer in all of its glory! My home stays cool in the heat of the afternoon and ceiling fans disperse any accumulated heat. And if I could dream any dream, I would choose a pool, a saltwater pool in my backyard, in my home with a backyard with trees that offer shade. I would dream of more space, light space, with more room for guests to stay. I would dream of my life more expanded and with more abundance to gift to others. There is nothing wrong with wanting more. It's that which causes dreams to be born if we could only allow for the possibilities of more. But, we are often told to be happy with what we have and where we are, which is a great way to enter into more, if it were said with an allowing energy. Often it isn’t-often the energy behind it is, be grateful for what you have and don’t expect anything else.

It is a lie you have been told by those who don’t want you to want or don’t want you to have. It is a lie they have told themselves in order to make themselves feel better because they don’t have it. It is a lie that has been passed down through generations in many families except for those that have it. They may have their own stuff to deal with and one day you may understand that too, but we guarantee you it is not the money that makes them unhappy. Unhappy people can be found in all walks of life. Happy people can be found in all walks of life and if you dream of more for yourself in whatever fashion that is for you-we will cheer you on and we will encourage you every step of the way. We will be standing by whispering in your ear to go through that door, turn left, now right until you find yourself in that very dream. Do not be afraid of it. It is yours and like any dream, it is precious and to be nurtured into manifestation. Don’t be alarmed if it looks very different and far better than you had dreamed. Dreams have a way of doing that. Don’t leave it on a back burner-treat it like a good friend and invite it over for a visit more often than not.

What would have happened if Bill Gates believed that? He wanted more and he dreamt more for himself and the world. He is a contribution to our world.

Step into the dream if you can, in your reality through visiting a home with a pool, gifting what you can when you can-don’t wait until it is fully manifested to begin acting like you would then.

Yes, here I am in a very good life and darn it I want more. I make no apologies for this even if some of my friends think that is inherently wrong. After all, they say, isn’t that why so much is wrong in the world?

You can do it now and we promise you when you do, you will be laying the groundwork for some very delicious times to unfold.

After all, I think, isn’t that why so much is right in the world? There are wonderful and good and kind people in our world who do wonderful and kind things in our world and couldn’t they do more if they had more? What would have happened if Oprah had decided that her first dream was enough and why oh why should she dream anything bigger? She is a contribution to our world.

You are the dreamer and you can be the deliberate creator. They go hand in hand-always. If you don’t dream-you will create by default. All of those thoughts you have will create something. Wouldn’t you rather it be a really good dream? We thought so. Go For The Joy Linda and The Group

There are many more examples and so many that we are unaware of. But I can say with certainty-on this and not of much elsethat dreaming and desiring of more has contributed far more to this world than playing small. Inventions have been birthed and will be birthed. Maybe if you had more you could contribute to an inventor with a dream. There are many ways to contribute and money is not the only way, but it is a primary currency on our planet and it gets things done. The more you have, the more that you can contribute in a bigger way. Why oh why would you shy away from contributing in a bigger way-be it monetary or otherwise. You dear ones, have within you many dreams and they are only there because of your desires for more. They may need money to manifest and they may not-but don’t let yourself get stuck on the money being inherently bad because it isn’t.

Welcome back to Workplace Survival Skills. I hope you read the June and July issues of Nourish. In the June article I defined feelings, emotions, actions/reactions, and explained why it’s important to center and how to center. In the July issue I explained what grounding is, why it’s important, and provided tools to ground and remain grounded at work. If you haven’t had an opportunity to read these issues I encourage you to do so now.

To the right of me I see archangel Raphael. To the angel of healing, I say to myself, “Raphael, thank you for the

This month I’m going to teach you a few of my favorite methods to protect. But, first, I feel it’s important for everyone to really understand the truth about protection. My truth is that protection is not standing in a warrior stance with my armor polished in all it’s magnificent glory, and sword ready to strike down the enemy at any cost. While I know that I am a warrior of protection for myself, my family and those I love, the truth is my warrior self stands in a self-confident stature, with glittering beautiful gold armor, and a sword ready to transmute negativity into light, love and compassion. Believe it or not, transmuting energy is tremendously more powerful than merely killing the beast.

overcome fear and procrastination. Bless me with motivation throughout the day that is pure and honest in intent and purpose. Thank you.”

For me, the two most critical times of protection are upon awaking and right before I sleep. I never miss my protection exercises at these two times. Whatever protection tools I use throughout the day are merely to boost the protective cocoon that surrounds me.

GOOD MORNING ANGELS! Every day, whether it’s a workday or not, I begin by centering, grounding, and protecting before I ever get out of bed. More often than not, before I ever open my eyes.

After centering and grounding, I call in four of the archangels for protection and right-action throughout the day. I see myself standing in the middle of these four glorious, protective pillars of archangels. To the front of me I see archangel Uriel. To the angel of wisdom, I say to myself, “Uriel, bring me wisdom and

logic to do, say, and act in all the right ways. To bring logic and knowledge to my work activities and decisions. To bring compassion to those surrounding me – both seen and unseen. Thank you for your wisdom Uriel.” www.nourishpublication.com

healing you bring to me and the world everyday. Today, please help me heal what needs healing and help to heal those that need healing. Guide my actions, my thoughts, and words so I do not cause undue stress to another or myself.” To the left of me I see archangel Gabriel. To the angel of motivation, I say to myself, “Gabriel, help me to

And, behind me, I see archangel Michael. He’s got my back. And, to the angel of protection I simply say.

“Michael, thank you for all you do to protect this world everyday. Michael, please protect me today. Protect my family, my business and everyone I come into contact with today.”

GOOD NIGHT WORLD! Before going to sleep, I shut down the energy centers in my body (my chakras). Closing these energy centers allows me to get a restful night’s sleep even if the day has been full of stress and chaos while preventing unwanted energy coming into contact with any one of my energy centers. I close my energy centers by placing my non-dominant open hand in front of each chakra one by one. With palm facing the energy center, starting with the base (root chakra), I move my hand in a counter-clockwise direction as I see and feel that particular energy center slowing and finally closing in a peaceful and relaxed way. I do this with each of the primary seven energy centers from my root to my crown. After all energy centers are peaceful and closed, I see Archangel Michael spreading his wings out and completely enveloping me in love, light, and protection. I ask him to look after and surround my family, pets, friends, home, business, and community in light and protection. I then drift peacefully to sleep and seldom awake due to worry or anxiety about happenings throughout my day or what tomorrow may bring. If I don’t drift immediately to sleep I offer ho’oponopono to anyone or group of people I feel I 15

Debra DeFreece may need to release energy from. If no one specific person or group comes to mind I put the blessing out to the world and allow it to go where it is guided to land. If you’re unfamiliar with ho’oponopono it is a beautiful Hawaiian tradition of forgiveness.

Yellow stones such as Lemon Quartz and Yellow Apatite enhance logical thinking and bring in wisdom.

I’m sorry Please forgive me Thank you

Light blue stones, primarily Blue Lace Agate, is known for transmuting harsh, loud, aggressive communication into kinder, gentler conversations.

Deep blue stones, especially Lapis, is perfect for confidence and communication.

I love you Repeat these words until you feel all has been balanced for you.

BOOST-THE-DAY PROTECTIVE TOOLS Hand Washing: The palms of your hands are powerful energy centers. If you find yourself in a meeting or business lunch with negativity disrupting your energy, excuse yourself, and go to the restroom. Place soap and water on your hands. In a circular motion, rub the palm of each hand with the thumb of the opposite hand. Continue this action for about a minute on each hand while silently saying to yourself, “I do not allow anything or anyone

to disrupt my peace and calm. Let all negativity by washed away now.” Once you feel your calm returning, dry your hands and enjoy the control you have for the remainder of the day.

Orange stones, in particular Carnelian, is excellent for creativity and problem solving. Malachite is optimal for protection of self against the rays put off by computers and electronics. Other items: Additional items I recommend you place in your pack include gold, Lavender and Frankincense. Gold draws prosperity and money. The gold can be a simple gold chain or bracelet that you don’t wear. Lavender and Frankincense fosters career and business success. There are numerous other protection tools available. These are just a few that I hope you’ll play with and develop.

Crystals: Pointed crystals dispel and cut through thick negative energy. These crystals will sever contracts and relationships with others. I recommend using round, tumbled crystals and stones during the average work day. They soften and transmute energy. I suggest you keep your stones in a small, dark blue or black pouch. Place the pouch inside a desk drawer, purse, or anyplace that will not raise attention. Inside the bag place stones and other items that give you power and protection. Following are just a few suggestions: Dark stones and crystals such as Jet, Smokey Quartz, Black Tourmaline, and Obsidian are all good for grounding, protection, and balance. www.nourishpublication.com

She wears her head like a yoke of feathers dropping low with swans to connect with earth. Under pale mask eyes glow, throat pyramids up in blue ascent, plaited feathers weave, adapt to armor, rib the heart, wing Intention’s voice. Lift it up baby, wear those wings as earrings, keep the heart under wraps ― yoke those dreams then plow that life in upward spirals, make it seem real.

Lughnasadh (Loo-nahs-ah) takes place on August 1st and is the half way mark between the summer and autumn equinox’s. It is a time to give thanks for the harvest, which might seem early, but when I think about it – many fresh vegetables, fruits and berries are being harvested. The first harvest of hay usually happens around this time as well. It is a time to celebrate the sun, to enjoy the warmer days as they start to become shorter. Celebrate this day and toast the sun God Lugh, with a glass of wine, fresh bread, cheese and fruit. Enjoy the dusk of the evening as the sun sets, light a candle or two and give thanks for a perfect start to the harvest season both in the fields and in your personal life.

“Those who live nobly, even if in their life they live obscurely, need not fear that they will have lived in vain. Something radiates from their lives, some light that shows the way to their friends, their neighbors, perhaps to long future ages.” Bertrand Russell Our world is a complex and difficult place. The process of change at a political, global level seems painfully slow. While, as individuals, we can embrace and extol the virtues of a peaceful world—one characterized by integrity at every level—that is not the reality in the world at large. How we wish we had the power to tilt the axis of our world so we became aligned in a much more benevolent direction. Like siblings watching one of their own being reprimanded or punished, we cringe in the awareness of what some of our sisters and brothers must endure on this troubled planet. We may even experience a kind of “survivor’s guilt” for living in comfort and safety while so many suffer. Any contribution we could make might seem small and ineffectual. Even if we are not in positions of power and influence, we can still make a difference. Beyond supporting causes that assist those who are struggling, we can make a difference simply in the way we live our daily lives. Each of our own personal worlds is a microcosm of the larger world.

Within this microcosm, we have profound influence.

“too busy” with our own personal agendas?

How do we “govern” our personal worlds? Are we fair, compassionate and conciliatory, or are we aggressive, judgmental and argumentative? Do those who share our world feel blessed or cursed by our presence? Do we bring joy and harmony, or do we bring stress and struggle into the lives of others? Do we treat all others as our equals, or do we regard ourselves as somehow superior to others?

How we “govern” our own world impacts, and is reflected in the macrocosm. When we operate from our “higher selves” it is as though we are “enlightening” our world. We bring brightness to our little part of the world. The more light there is, the less room there is for darkness. When we live nobly, that tends to inspire others to do the same. Every time we perform a noble act, it raises the lowest common denominator of human behavior just a little. The entire human/ global complex benefits.

In any world there are bound to be differences in opinion, and times when others act differently than we would like. Do we set up a round of “peace talks” to iron out the difficulties, or do we drop the anger bomb? Do we continue to love and respect those with whom we have differences, or do we draw a line between us, and think of them as “the enemy?” Do we share some of our resources with those less fortunate, or do we hoard them, loading up on luxury items? Do we give of our time, to help others in need, or are we constantly

Even if our acts of kindness and compassion are tiny, and unobserved except for the recipient, they are still gifts to our world. Never underestimate the significance of brining joy to one heart, or alleviating the burden of one soul. Millions suffer in our world, but those millions are made up of individuals. Every individual is significant, and no noble act is insignificant.

How do you treat the parts of this earth that you walk on, that you are in and around and about each and every day? What do you think about it? Are you aware of it? More aware than just a fleeting glance? More aware than irritation if the ground is wet from rain or that dust is blowing around, making your eyes gritty? How we think about our piece of earth is very important. Walking with respect for the space we are in, whether we are indoors or out of doors, is something that can help us to always have a space around us that is nurturing and welcoming. Fear not. Fear is the absence of love We lose our minds And our hearts When fear is And let me tell you, fear is not respect. Being afraid is not the way to ensure that you or I or our children’s children have a planet left to walk on. Love is what will ensure that. Walk outside with me right now. Stand in the doorway of your apartment, stick your head out the window, sit on your balcony, walk into your forest. Just stand. STAND. Breathe. Allow yourself to stay there in that spot. Bring all of your awareness to your skin and then to a centimeter off your skin. Your whole body. Awareness of what is there just beyond your skin. Breathe again. Breathe in with your crown chakra—still keeping your main focus of awareness on your energy field. Breathe out and then breathe in through your feet. Feel it. Feel that breath as it comes all the way up from your feet. Feel how it breathes you. Earth. Earth breathing you. Feel the earth beneath your feet even if you are in your living room with your head out your window. Feel. Feel the pulse, the beat. Feel a centimeter below your feet. What’s there, where you stand? What is under your part of the earth? Soft leaf mulch? Gravel? Trickling water? Rotting carcass? All necessary to create more of this beautiful planet we walk on, to nurture and grow trees and plants, birds and bees, you and I. Walking in fear Of our planet’s health Sickens us And her Walking in fear Of our planet’s Health does not Nurture When we walk in fear we Restrict We draw in And growth is not Possible Remember that

Through love. Example. Joy. To learn, we must Experience over and over again Haven’t you? Aren’t you in the process of discovery? How many times have you walked down the street marked Pain? How often have you stood there and said never again? I won’t do this ever again Only to find yourself there again We are all like that. My discovery, my knowing does not make imperative your discovery your knowing. All I can do is model for you The behavior that I know is true for me Knowing that if it resonates for you it will become a part of you as well There is time enough for all to learn Love

From the end of April, I have been moving - streaming through mind-binding unfurling's of angst and joy too as I packed (endlessly it seemed), piled my packed belongings into storage and then flew away through those expansive Canadian skies to the Maritimes where I rested, visited dear friends, wrote and regrouped for my eventual return to British Columbia to find a home on the Island and then to load and move once more, this time from the storage locker to my new abode. It was and still remains a lot to ‘hold’. It is done now, mostly. Two and one-half months later, I am looking out my sun-filled windows on to a world that glimmers in the light reflected from the waters of the blue harbour and from the very air itself dancing with an inherent energy that is self-evident in the brilliant sunlight. Moving residence is akin to moving into another realm within/ inside myself. I am never sure which inner persona I’ll meet or which inner transformation(s) will occur; but I do know that the dualities appearing in life certainly show up intensively throughout the moving process. During that time, I live amongst being organized and chaotic; feeling powerful motion followed by compelled rest; experiencing certainty chased by uncertainty; embracing inspiration amidst spurts of anxiety; loving the downsizing, but wondering if I’ve ‘lost’ enough objects or if I’m losing too much; feeling excitement, then dread from understanding the crazy outpouring of labour involved in a move that rouses me physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. This is when I feel the most vulnerable yet also entirely held in intuitive possibility, potential, new horizons. I am reborn as I watch the disassembling and dropping away of my ‘old’ life. At these times, the many rooms within a person’s psyche (within my psyche) manifest with greater frequency, each one alternating as the main player taking center stage depending upon circumstances that ignite its appearance and each one popping up with content based upon family and cultural upbringing, personal beliefs (even contradictory beliefs), an ability to ameliorate stress as well as the inclinations arising from our uniqueness as a sentient being some of this perhaps derived from past lives or even lives lived within this one. So the persona or room of the psyche currently in charge might be mistakenly endowed with the belief that what it is acting out is the absolute truth based upon the circumstances that evoked it (i.e. moving seen as drudgery only or as uncertainty only), and therefore about life…or even about oneself. Being caught in this identification with the outpourings of the particular ‘room’ or persona emerging, becomes the reality in the moment and if what is being expressed ingrains a negative belief or infuses us with personal suffering, then revolutionizing the wave of that pseudo-reality from consuming you or me is key. Knowing all things on the physical plane are affected by time and space, by the ebb and flow of perpetual change; that all things remain in flux so that what was once a high point of elation or pleasure will diminish in intensity as its opposite appears is helpful knowledge. It lessens the sense of becoming captive to the dualities continually unfolding; to the highs and lows of daily experience. So, changing residences, perhaps, will contain both high excitement and/or situations that threaten to overwhelm a person especially if there is not an awareness that inner and unresolved

www.nourishpublication.com

personal issues can activate during these concentrated circumstances and begin to inform, as an example, all the conditions around the experience of moving a household thus diminishing or even erasing the good intentions that may have been originally present. Understanding that expansion and contraction are part of the whole experience of life, means that you or I might choose to simply ‘go with the flow’ by riding the surges and retreats of the reality moving around and through us rather than fighting the changes in current or direction. It is the creativity of life expanding, expanding, expanding into creative movement, expression, or action followed by a penultimate pause and then contracting, contracting, contracting into hunkering down, resting and pausing again, that is so life-affirming. Slipping into the stillness of the void is the pause between contraction and expansion even though the experience of that place is frequently labeled as “there’s nothing happening here and I must do something” or “ this is negative, I just want to feel that sense of expansion again”. In fact, it is the precursor to the ignition and resuscitation of movement; to beginning anew after that time of deep rest, silence and reflection - the bringing and integrating into awareness all that has been discovered during that time of outward movement. The void percolates with possibility. In part, this rhythm is about learning to flow with ‘what is’ no matter what it looks like…each expansion and contraction flowing seamlessly one into the other. Within the context of moving to a new home, virtually every person may feel instances of this outward and inward movement stirring concurrently within. These are the eddies of change and ‘holding’ the entire cycle is truly an awesome practice. Finally, including witness consciousness, that practice of observing the contents of the mind establishes an inner stability in that a person no longer completely identifies with or is swept away by the thoughts and feelings that endlessly stream through the space of the mind (even when undergoing the household packing and moving experience). The ever-changing flux of that inner landscape, the internal rumbling of both the inane and logical washing through with opinions, beliefs, fantasies and dreams as well as the mental, physical and emotional patterns continually materializing and luring our attention is neutralized. The objective around practicing mindfulness is to reduce suffering; to awaken from the consensual dream we humans so deeply embrace, so that you or I cannot be caught on that wheel of fortune again, trapped and entwined in a realm of thinking, thinking, thinking and/or of emotional churning. Although mindfulness exacts a particular kind of focus, or one-pointedness (the mind may tell you that this is too hard to accomplish), through its consistent practice the potential to open into infinite and compassionate awareness is cultivated. Duality finds its place in the scheme of things, as the opening to what is true - that ultimate reality - surfaces from within and is known. An eternal joy then fills that person with the bliss of a consciousness no longer trapped by suffering.

We get engaged, we marry and state our vows to our partner with the desire to live happily ever after in holy matrimony. But what happens when one day, in your marriage, you are no longer happy? We don’t get married with the mindset that we will not spend the rest of our lives together. We marry with the intention of creating a beautiful life together with possibly children, a house with a white picket fence and a dog. Why do marriages fall apart? It could be because you got married for the wrong reason. When you chose your lifetime partner, were they fulfilling a need? Were you feeling incomplete in your single life so you decided to find someone to make you feel complete and whole? Did you have a void that needed filling? If you answered yes, then you married for all the wrong reasons. Living happily ever after means gracing the life of another. The time to get married and settle done is when you are already a whole and complete person and they can come into your life when you are on a high. It’s not fair to dump your problems and insecurities on someone else. It only drags them down with you and hurts the relationship in the long run. If you feel incomplete, then the only person that can complete you is yourself. A positive spiritual relationship means no expectations. Don’t marry someone or go and live with someone with the idea that you are going to change them. The only person who you can and should be changing is you. It is not a codependent union. You each have the freedom to do what you want to do. That doesn’t mean you’re going to let your partner sleep around but that they can be who they want to be and do what they want to do with having to ask your permission. It means being in the moment right now and allowing them to be the person they wish to be. Don’t judge one another and make each other wrong. Support each other’s beliefs, values and dreams even if they are not your own. Participate in each other’s activities. If your husband enjoys golf, why not learn to play golf and go with him? If your wife wants to learn salsa dancing, then agree to go with her and learn as a couple so you can enjoy date nights. You don’t have to spend every waking moment with them. In fact it’s healthy for couples to have their own time to do what they want to do; to recharge; to have a girl’s night out or a guy’s night out. Then when you are together its quality time. Ask them how you can help them. Ask yourself each day: “What can I do for my partner today? How can I grace their life?” Do this and see miraculous shifts in your relationship! Giving grace to another without expecting anything back will attract the same graciousness back to you through the law of attraction. When you give of yourself without any

www.nourishpublication.com

hidden agendas, they respond back that much more. They want to give back to you too. If you’re not living happily ever after then perhaps it’s time you try and repair your marriage rather than allowing it to stay toxic. Ask your partner to talk about your issues and if you can’t do it together, then perhaps seek the help of a life coach or marriage counsellor. When I have provided life coaching services to couples I ask them to write down 3 things that they really value. 3 things they hold very high to themselves and then share it out loud with one another in private. One asks the other: “Will you honour this?” And their partner responds: “Yes, I will.” Then the other does the same. This helps to reconfirm their commitment to honour each other, and support each other no matter what. Use compassionate and conscious conversations to resolve all your issues. That means giving your partner the time to speak their truth. Once they’ve finished then it’s your turn. Repeat back what you heard them say to clarify that you understood everything they said, and to confirm that you haven’t missed anything. However, both of you need to participate in conscious communication and talk about feelings. If your spouse doesn’t want to participate and work things out with you then it’s time to move on with your life. You can’t force your partner to see a life coach or marriage counsellor. You can’t force them to talk about the issues in your marriage, and work through them if they are not a willing participant. Get out of it and find someone who matches you vibrationally. Someone who meets your needs and who is whole themselves. Don’t find someone to complete you. No one can do that for you but you. You have to heal and release your own issues, and once you are complete, the right partner will show up and it will be a magical and enlightening experience! Love & Light, ,

We never seem to tire of information that talks about the Shift or ascension. There is so much information out there it’s impossible to go through it all. There are many thoughts on what exactly will happen so my ears really perk up when a client asks about ascension in their session. Dolores Cannon writes and talks about the shift and the information she has received via her clients about this subject. As a practitioner I’ve also had several clients ask about ascension and I love it when they do because this is my chance to have a front row seat to learn how this shift is progressing along.

Dolores says with the information she has that we are in the shift, it’s started already. We’ve been slowly progressing through it for several years now. The information I received in my sessions is the same. When asked for specifics it would tell me that it really couldn’t give any because “we” were changing the outcome moment by moment. The HC would only say “soon” and we all know how vague that answer is. I’ve noticed in the past 8-9 months the information the HC is willing to give has become a little clearer. Something has indeed shifted and when asked the HC has said on a couple of occasions that we have crossed the line where it is now a certainty. YAY! We did it! It referred to the hundredth monkey theory saying that we have past the point of no return and it is inevitable. WHEN, I ask, knowing how the HC doesn’t really do “time” I’m still willing to put it out there and even press a little for distinct information. Well, what I and other practitioners have been getting lately in answer to this questions is that “It will come sooner than you think” Great! BUT WHEN exactly is that in this 3-D reality that we are in? The only real clue I’ve had is a client’s HC who very poetic and vaguely said that this September there would be an eclipse of the sun and the moon. In the HC’s words as I’ve written in a previous article in this magazine titled, A Star Being Here To Help The Earth the HC said: The Sun and Moon combine they create and an

eclipse, it goes down to the core (of the earth) the core re-sets and the vibration changes shaking the entire earth, but not shaking in the sense you think of shaking www.nourishpublication.com

a ball, shaking in the sense of the vibrational waves that come out of the earth that will re-set it. It has to vibrate that way it’s like a hum. We need to relax and let the change occur.” Later it goes on to say this is not an earthquake shaking, but clearly a vibration. The only people who will be aware of this are the awakened ones. But when I checked I found there is no scheduled eclipse in September of this year! Recently A client asked “The big question” and we were able to get a little clearer information some of it I had never heard before, so I’m very excited to be able to share it here with you.

In answer to the client’s question about ascension the HC responded: Ascension- it’s happening! It’s a shift in the vibrational energies. Humans are becoming less dense, all knowing and all seeing abilities are being opened up. Is this a shift for every human on the planet? No not everyone. What happens to those who don’t shift? They continue their path on the earth. What do those who do make shift experience? A lightness, a love, being able to transfer knowledge between entities. What will it look like? Peaceful. Will the two groups co-exist? No, no! What will happen? The higher group will be aware of the earth bound group, some may still help them but from a different plane. We will be at a different type of classroom.

Will it not be on earth anymore? “C” won’t be on earth (meaning the client). Where will “C” go? A new world, same world, different vibration the vibration is here they just don’t see it, it’s an opening.

35

Marilyn Dyke Is this something each person will do in their own time? No, they will do it at once.

So we’ve crossed that point? Yes.

What will this opening look and feel like? Like a door way like an energy, like a doorway pushing through you’ll know it’s there you will just have to walk through, push through it.

When did we cross it? Maybe a year ago.

The client told me later that at this point the HC showed the them a wall of blue-ish multicolored energy that was all in movement and in this wall was a doorway with a rounded top opened with a zipper, all you had to do is unzip it and push through. Will humans see it? You’ll know, you’ll just know it. Is that coming up soon? Very soon. When? A time? Hmmm, it’s sooner than you think. Is it this year, before the end of 2014? Perhaps, yes (a little hesitant). The HC said the client’s role is to show others the way.

After shift will “C’s” business (or need to earn a living) still be relevant? “C” will be showing people how to create there. Will business still be relevant? No it’s different. Will there be a need for a job? No, you will create what ever you want. And so a little more information to ponder. The HC was very adamant in this case that just before it happens we will “know” it’s about to occur. My understanding is that those who have made the choice to go will know what to do and others who perhaps haven’t made the final decision will see this and decide then and there whether they will make the shift or stay on the earth. Interesting times we live it would you not agree?

Ok, so “C” will recognize this? Yes, they will see it, “C” will recognize it before it happens. “C” will be aware – you (meaning me) will be aware too. (Apparently this is my job too). What will “C” do when they become aware of the event will they tell others? No, it will be an inner knowing, it will feel like something has changed, they will just know. “C” is going to lead others- into it by example. So will others recognize in “C” what’s about to happen? Yes, and “C” will lead them, they will see “C”, they recognize “C”. Is there a possibility that it won’t happen? NO! (very sure) www.nourishpublication.com

What is Arbonne? “Standing on a simple farm dressed in humble clothing, the boy’s eyes reflected a worldly curiosity and a hunger for experience. The gray back drop was the perfect contrast to where life would take him. At fourteen, he left home to seek his fortune. To make his mark. A sailor on a merchant ship’s crew, he spent years sailing the world, from New York to Australia and everywhere between. He returned home a man. A well-traveled, self-educated, charming risk-taker, ready to transform the world. Always seeking knowledge and refusing to be distracted by anything secondary, he had the rare ability to recognize quality – in things, in people, and in business. The world’s best became his standard, and he kept true to that philosophy when he began his life’s biggest adventure. From the moment of conception, Arbonne would bring only the highest quality ingredients and most premium products to the rest of the world. One idea became a legacy. One moment became endless opportunity.” ... This is the story of Petter Morck, founder of Arbonne. Arbonne is a vegan certified, eco-friendly, Health and Wellness company that develops botanically based skin and body care, makeup, and nutrition products. With over 34 years of experience in this industry, developing effective, premium products with base ingredients found in nature, that are safer than many alternatives we all use today, is what Arbonne is all about.

Full Sturgeon Moon – August The fishing tribes are given credit for the naming of this Moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month. A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because, as the Moon rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze. It was also called the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon. This is the month to give thanks. Not only for all that you are blessed with from the Universe but to yourself as well. Pamper yourself and your family. With all of the change that has been taking place during the year, the full moon is the perfect time to embrace and honor your growth. The full moon is about releasing where as the new moon is for manifesting. You are not releasing your growth, you are cleansing your personal (aura) space of any residual that is left there. Think of it as unclamping a ball and chain that you have dragged around for years. It is also an excellent time to give yourself a reading or have one done for you. Water has always been used to cleanse and this is a wonderful meditation/ritual that you can use on the upcoming full moon. As always this is your time and you need to discern what is special to you and make this time yours. The next is just a guideline, feel free to modify and change it to what feels right for you. You will need a bowl of water, a floating candle and something to light it. I personally like to wait until the moon is rising in the sky to begin, but timing really does not matter, other than being on the actual day of the full moon. Where you do this does not matter so much either. It is best to do this where you can see the moon, if you are not able to see the moon, find a place you love to spend time in. Fill the bowl with water.

you. The bowl will be the central focus but feel free to include a couple of angels, some crystals, perhaps float a few flowers in the bowl of water. Basically what do you love? Use symbology that suits you, and reflects who you are or are becoming. When you are ready, take a few moments to ground your energy. This can be as simple as saying “ground, ground, ground.” Or as elaborate as you want. There is no right or wrong, just so long as you quiet the mind chatter, shake the tension out of your body and feel like you are rooted with mother earth. Hold the candle between your palms and say out loud or quietly in your mind what you are releasing. Doing so with the intent that what you are saying is being transferred into the candle. For this ritual you are releasing all that you have shifted and changed in your life to this point so it no longer holds you back in any way shape or form. Place the candle in the water. As you do so state what you are releasing out loud. Light the candle. As light the candle call in your angels and guides to help send the releasements out into the universe with love for the gifts they gave you, and ask that love be returned to you in peace. Celebrate this releasing. You could choose to sit with a glass of wine and just enjoy the flicker of the flame. Do not leave the candle unattended. When you are ready to leave the space, blow the candle out, and dip your hands into the bowl as a final cleanse of all you have released. That is all that is required. If you wish you can relight the candle again between now and the new moon. To do so is to honor your commitment to yourself, and each time you light it celebrate the wonderful job you are doing at bringing joy into your life.

Now you are going to create a space that feels comfortable to

Earth Crystals

All crystals have beneficial properties but each astrological sign has crystals that are said to support those born under that sign. Often one crystal will show up under more than one sign yet offers something totally different. Just as there are many aspects to each astrological sign, each crystal has many aspects that vibrate with different aspects of our body, mind and soul and what works for one person is not necessarily true for the next. Start to collect the crystals associated with your sign and keep them in a small bag you can carry in your pocket. Not all the crystals associated with your sign will resonate with you, as always keep the list for your sign handy and carry around those that do. If a stone does not resonate with you now, still find one that you are attracted to, down the road you might find you are drawn to that one crystal.

The main gemstones are: Other important stones: Rock crystal – imbues Leo with strength and inner composure and intensifies positive vibrations. In times of adversity, rock crystal can help with natural confidence and optimism.

Larimar – aids Leo in resolving old problems and leads to new ways of thinking and dealing with situations. It protects them from exhaustion and the negative energy that can cast a shadow over their normal sunny disposition. Diamond – are the gemstones with the clearest light. Its piercing rays remind Leo that true leadership – whether in personal or professional endeavors – involves service.

Onyx – to benefit Leos, to make their high-flying plans come true, onyx must be pure black. This stone keeps their minds free and flexible. Yellow-gold citrine – Citrine in this color brings Leo relaxation and rest, when they become drained by their strenuous efforts to reach their goals. It awakens compassion and the necessary understanding to consider the feelings of others, as they strive for plaudits and success. Garnet – strengthens Leo’s will power and endurance. It balances their sexual energy so that they can experience the deepest joys of love. Its positive influence will also make itself felt in Leo’s working life. Peridot – keeps Leo young, strengthens the immune system, and revives the aura. Selenite – provides Leo with the modesty and self-control that will best set off their loving and attractive nature.

Chrysoberyl – is highly beneficial for Leos. It leads to improved relationships with partners and subordinates. It brings tolerance and harmony and fosters gentleness in personal dealings. It also helps Leo recover their optimism during trying times.

Tiger’s eye – reinforces Leo’s mental powers and helps them become more inward-looking, which allow them to come to grips with their weaknesses and overcome limitations. Then they can discover that well-being and happiness depend more upon one’s spiritual development than on outward measures of success.

Topaz – pink topaz is the lucky stone for Leo. It fosters honesty, sincerity, and fairness in the drive for business and personal success. It also gives Leo the necessary distance to think things over, so that they don’t become frazzled and lose their sense of proportion.

Tourmaline – has an especially powerful influence. Its parallel structure directs light rays and transforms them into positive energy. This makes tourmaline an immediate benefit for the psychosomatic ailments to which Leos are particularly susceptible.

Stand with both feet touching. Bring your hands together, palm to palm, at the heart. Make sure your weight is evenly distributed. Exhale.

Raise your arms upward. Slowly bend backward, stretching arms above the head. Relax your neck. Inhale.

Exhale while you slowly bend forward until your hands are in line with your feet, touching your head to your knees, if possible. Press your palms down, fingertips in line with toes (bend your knees if you have to), and touch the floor.

Move your right leg back behind your body in a wide lunge. As you inhale, keep your hands and feet on the ground, with your left foot between your hands, and raise your head.

Bring your left foot together with your right foot.

Exhale as you lower your body, keeping your elbows by your side.

One Pot Pasta My local farmers market is a treasure trove of delicious items, fresh from the farm or orchard to me every Saturday. A couple of weeks ago I had some zucchini that I needed to use up and stumbled upon one pot pasta. I modified the recipe, but it turned out delicious! It was so easy it has become a summertime favorite weeknight meal, all it takes is 20 minutes and you are serving a healthy meal without heating up the kitchen. INGREDIENTS 1 pound spaghetti 1 pound cremini mushrooms, thinly sliced 2 zucchini, thinly sliced and quartered 2/3 cup peas 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced 2 sprigs thyme Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste 1/3 cup grated Parmesan 1/4 cup heavy cream INSTRUCTIONS In a large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium high heat, combine spaghetti, mushrooms, zucchini, peas, garlic, thyme and 4 1/2 cups water; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until pasta is cooked through and liquid has reduced, about 8-10 minutes. Stir in Parmesan and heavy cream. Serve immediately.

My Modified Version Farmers Market FindsI bunch fresh carrots – sliced ½ “ pieces 2 zucchini – chopped into quarters 1 lb fresh peas 1 lb fresh wax and green beans 2 cloves of garlic Thyme from my garden My farmers Market has an organic pasta vendor but I used off the shelf spaghetti Add inWhen adding the cream & parmesan I added two small diced cooked chicken breasts

Lemon Blueberry Muffin Bread Blueberries are abundant at my market right now and I love these little blue balls of nutrition! When I made this bread, I found it could use a bit more lemon taste, it could be that I did not measure the lemon zest, just zested one lemon into the mix. Next time I will use the lemon and make a lemon glaze with the jucie of the lemon and some icing sugar. Pour it on directly after taking it out of the oven. Should add some yummy goodness to this delicious bread. Ingredients 2 cups all purpose flour 1 ½ tsp baking powder ½ tsp salt 1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 2 cups blueberries (12 oz) 2 tsp lemon zest ½ cup plain yogurt, regular or lowfat

Directions Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside. In a medium sized bowl, whisk together your flour, baking powder and salt. Add the blueberries and lemon zest and toss to combine. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the yogurt then the dry ingredients, mixing only until incorporated and being careful not to crush the blueberries. Scoop batter into your prepared loaf pan and bake for 1 hour 10 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting gently onto a plate. www.nourishpublication.com

The rune I drew for August is Dagaz. As it is the 3rd anniversary of Nourish Publication, it is a very appropriate rune. It is the rune of new beginnings, the dawn of new ideas. Whenever it shows in a reading, it shows the subject is moving into a period of growth. It could be inward growth, business, or family. Horik Svensson says that it is important to understand the symbology of Dagaz in terms of the Teutonic tribes. Living close to nature and living so far north, the beginnings of spring would have been a magical reaffirmation of life. They would have been able to come out in the open, acquire fresh foods, especially fruits and vegetables.

time before it is fully light, your changes happen over time. You may not even notice the changes happening until one day you wake up and things look much brighter. You might have noticed that my regular column is missing this month. Unfortunately it couldn’t be helped but I will be back next month. Until then, Skül my brothers and sisters Phil

Dagaz has no negative aspects, even in a negative reading it shows the subject possesses inner strength to turn a situation around if they will only utilize it. The growth symbolized by this rune is slow but steady, rather than overnight success. Just as the dawn takes

Essential Oils– Vera Enshaw

more commonly known as TEA TREE OIL

56

MELALEUCA ALTERNIFOLIA ESSENTIAL OIL Tea Tree Oil, like lavender, is an essential oil that most people have heard of. Not as many are as familiar with the botanical name “melaleuca alternifolia.” I love the way the words sound together—they kind of roll off the tongue. Much more fun than tea tree oil! The plant is native to Australia and when smelling the oil I can just imagine what the area must be like on a hot day. Pungent. Melaleuca alternifolia (make sure you know what you have!) has been used for centuries as a cleanser for cuts, wounds and skin infections. It also has strong immunebuilding properties. It’s a strong oil, so it generally needs to be used diluted with an organic carrier oil such as almond or grapeseed oil. Use it for fungal infections, skin conditions such as acne and sores. It also works well on bronchitis, colds and flu. Diffuse it for the aromatic influence, especially when working on an issue that needs to be released. If you are working with a group diffuse before coming together and again part way through the day. Trust your intuition as to when. It is also very helpful after a healing session. Diffuse, or just put a drop on your hands and inhale to help clear the energies that are still lingering.

Keep in mind that you would not take any essential oil internally or apply it undiluted topically if the oil is not 3rd party certified therapeutic grade. Even then, using common sense is a must. Apply a small quantity to the underside of your arm and wait a bit to see if you have any reaction. The same applies for taking them internally. Put one drop in a gel cap, and wait an hour to see if you have a reaction. I have never had a reaction from Young Living oils—but you are not me! For more information on Young Living Essential oils and blends, please contact me by email at lightvera1@gmail.com or go to the YL website: www.youngliving.org

Please remember to use only 3rd party certified therapeutic grade essential oils.

Tea tree is a natural antibiotic that really works! About a year ago my daughter got a nasty burn on her wrist from the exhaust pipe on a motorbike.. She used a burn patch for the first time ever, then switched to a topical burn ointment (also a first) when the patch didn’t work and the burn started to become infected. She’s a busy lady and the thought of going into a walk-in clinic or to emergency was pretty much squashed immediately. After 3 days, in the evenng, she noticed the redness, swelling and heat of the infection had spread around her wrist and was a third of the way down her arm towards her elbow. She cleaned the area, left it uncovered and started using 3—4 drops of melaleuca alternifolia in a gel cap every 20 minutes for the first hour, then every two hours til bedtime. In the morning she took the same dose and reapeated four times through the day, and twice the day after that. After the first day the swelling and redness had gone down by half, and by the end of the third day it was cleared up completely. I had an infected tooth a couple of weeks ago, bad enough that it hurt to eat. It’s a wisdom tooth that has a crown on it and I do not want to lose it. I also do not like taking antibiotics if at all possible—so I started taking melaleuca alternifolia in gel caps—10 drops at a time, and every hour and a half to two hours during the day. Within one day the pain and swelling had subsided substantially. The next day I took the same amount but every 3 or 4 hours. By the third day there was just a hint of soreness, so I took 6 drops of melaleuca in a gel cap in the morning and again in the afternoon. Done. Finished. www.nourishpublication.com

Enjoy the scavenger hunt of your life, no matter the circumstances This month, when I asked what the power animal of the month was, seagull came flying in and landed nearby, squawking as it did. The seagulls message to us this month is:

“We may be scavengers, but we make the best of every opportunity. You must do the same. You see, every opportunity, no matter what, tells you something about yourself. For example, in our case there is a garbage can full of food or a human nearby that might drop a morsel of food. Our choices are to interact with the human for a morsel of food, or the garbage can where food is plentiful. Much of the time we choose the human interaction because we enjoy it whether you do or not. This is a gift in our scavenging because the people, the food and the way we are responded to are always different. Do you understand? You must learn, like us to enjoy the scavenger hunt, no matter what the circumstances. There are gifts hidden even in the garbage of your life and in our case, literally in the way of food or maybe something nice to use for our nests. For us interacting with humans brings joy, fun, amusement and sometime annoyance. Is that not like your interactions with each other. Enjoy these interactions on the path of your life, they are the gifts, the treasures you find on your scavenger hunt of life, love, abundance and all it entails in all its flavors. Yours in the joy of the hunt The Seagulls Contact Michelle bloghttp://whitestareagle.wordpress.com or email me at empathlove2003@yahoo.ca. Message from the Angels

August 2014 Dear ones, we say to you this month, shh… time to pause, embrace some quiet solitude and listen to your inner voice. Not the voice that has been chattering louder and louder to you each day, taking you away from your true essential core. Not the one which tells you to do this and that, and while you are busy doing this and that, changes course and has you chasing your tail instead of making forward progress. The quieter, softer voice of your higher self, your soul. We do not ask you to seek silence as a form of punishment, we ask so that you may find peace. Inner peace that stays with you and centers you, so that when the voice is chattering, you are able to stay calm and discern whether you should be following it or not. Finding solace in silence takes you back to your truth. That place of knowing, where there is no criticism, only honest dialogue from your higher self. If what your quiet voice is whispering feels uncomfortable to you, quietly ask; “why is my truth making me uncomfortable? What would you like me to do?” Then listen, for you will not be led astray.

www.nourishpublication.com

Take some time to find a quiet place in nature and enjoy the beauty and sounds that are present. Enjoy a slower pace, take the time to honor yourself by giving yourself some self care. It is a time of renewal and hope. Connecting with your true essential core, aligns and maintains your unique soul signature. The time you spend enjoying quiet activities, just for you, will restore you. The season you are enjoying beckons you to slow down and relax, embrace it and stop rushing about! Whisper softly Your angels
