Without realising it, we are already at the tail end of the year and will soon usher in 2023. Where did all the months go? Well, for some members at least, part of the time was actively spent participating in a number of Club events that have made a return recently.
There was the ever popular Captain’s Cup hosted by Club Captain Winston Toh and played at the Kranji golf course on Sep 3, just before the course closed for a major year-long renovation. Then came Golftoberfest, that heady combination of great golf, delicious food and endless jugs of Teutonic beer! Families were not forgotten. The Mid-Autumn Festival saw a parade of celebrants with lanterns in hand strolling under the full moon.
Our golfers who competed in the Inter-Club League organised by the Singapore Golf Association can also look back on the year with particular pride. Our ladies and gentlemen did very well in the various divisions and so did our junior golfers in the inaugural Junior InterClub League.
And here’s a shout-out to NSRCC Youth Bowler, Ashley Victoria Lok, who won a total of five medals at the MWA Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championship in Bangkok.
Back home at NSRCC Changi, there are new facilities to look forward to. Owners of electric cars will be delighted to know that 10 new charging points have been installed at the car parks. So will fans of Teochew cuisine and al fresco dining as these are now available at the newly opened Poolside Bistro @ NSRCC Changi.
No plans for the coming festive season? Do check what the Club has to offer that may be of interest to you. Enjoy!
Regards, Chua Swee Kiat EDITOROn Sep 3, Captain’s Cup 2022 took place at NSRCC Kranji. It was significant as it was the final golfing event before the commencement of Kranji’s one-year upgrading project.
To make the event more memorable, some fun twists were added. Besides awarding prizes for novelty events and top 10 golfers, there were also prizes for those who correctly guessed the number of times that Club Captain Winston Toh’s golf ball went into the bunker.
The golf flight with the most creative pose was also given prizes. The best part was that every participant received a lucky draw prize!
Participants certainly enjoyed the event, from a great golf game with sunny and windy weather, to the dinner with scrumptious dishes by Fairway Cafe and complemented with live karaoke sessions. Our General Manager and Club Captain took the stage to serenade everyone with their favourite songs!
Captain’s Cup was the last Club event for the year. We would like to thank our members for their strong support in 2022 and we look forward to their continued support in 2023!
Participants gathered with their kakis at NSRCC Changi for Golftoberfest as it made its grand return on Oct 7 as a party like no other!
The afternoon began with a round of golf coupled with free Erdinger beer redeemed from Passion Cafe. Despite the wet afternoon, their spirits were not dampened. What’s most important was that everyone had a good time enjoying their favourite game.
Rain or shine, golfing goes on
As the sun began its descent, the evening programme started to take shape. As participants entered The Heron, many felt like they were transported to Munich, the birthplace of Oktoberfest.
The feasting kicked off with a generous spread of German fare, such as Pork Knuckles, Pork Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, Grilled Sausages and more. The autumn feast was accompanied with an endless reservoir of Erdinger beer, which was of course the highlight of the evening!
Guests enjoyed themselves with the various drinking games, and let their hair down while watching drag performances by the hilarious and bountiful Noris-licious, who tickled them they so hard till they “pengsan”!
We hope everyone had a blast and look forward to welcoming you back to Golftoberfest 2023.
Participants of Family Day at the NSRCC Sea Sports Centre started their morning bright and early on Sep 3. Before diving into their exciting programme for the day, they were briefed by instructors from Constant Wind.
adventure soon ensued! Everyone had their chance to try a variety of water activities:sailing, windsurfing and stand-up paddling. They rocked and rode some spectacular waves, while basking in the morning sun.
Everyone, the young and the young-at-heart, truly enjoyed themselves. Most would agree that the NSRCC Sea Sports Centre is the perfect place for bonding with families and friends!
On the evening of Sep 3, some 65 members and their families gathered at the Heron to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. While participants sampled the array of moon cakes available, the little ones took the time to assemble their own DIY lanterns.
Soon the highlight of the evening got underway. Participants set out in groups for a scenic stroll on the golf course. It was a sight to behold as they walked along the 1.6 km route of illuminated path, under the dark sky with lanterns in their hands.
Upon reaching the end of the route at Passion Cafe, it was time to have fun with sparklers, which was definitely a hit with everyone. The children and even their parents had a blast playing with the sparklers. Everyone left with smiles on their faces after an enjoyable evening.
It’s time for family activitiesLanterns in hand, ready to go! A scenic stroll in the golf course
Having a sparkling good timeCan you spot the colourful lanterns? Participants are glowing in the dark, literally!
Join us on board the Open-Top Double Decker Bus for a night of fun while watching the sunset along Marina Barrage and zipping down past the vibrant nightlife. Participants will sample local food at Lau Pa Sat and watch the light show at Gardens by The Bay.
Youth Bowler, Ashley Victoria Lok did it again! Ashley was featured in the previous edition of Resort View for scoring her second Perfect Game during a national championship. This time, she won five medals, including three Champion’s medals, at the 21st MWA Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championship 2022 held from Aug 14-20 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Her achievements are:
- Champion for Girls Singles (Squad 1)
- Champion for Girls Doubles (Squad 1)
- Champion for Girls Single Combined
- 1st Runner-Up for All Girls Event
- 2nd Runner-Up for Girls Team of 4
It was even sweeter for Ashley because this marked her first time representing Singapore in an overseas competition. She shared, “During the tournament, the biggest thing I had to deal with was my mental state. My arsenal and game plan were all laid out perfectly for me and it was up to me to execute it. With so many other good bowlers around me, it was additional pressure to perform well and do my country proud.”
How did she rise above the nervousness and achieved five medals? “I took it one shot at a time and ensured that I kept myself in the present and to not think about the past or the future. By doing that, I could keep calm and do what I needed to do. When I won my medals, it was surreal and I genuinely could not believe it. It feels good to know that all my effort paid off and that I flew the country flag high.”
There she goes, our champion!
Our heartiest congratulations to Ashley for her continuous achievements and may you soar to greater heights!Photo Credits: Thai Tenpin Bowling
Friends who have known me over the years will tell you that I have always worn the colour green with great pride and affection for many reasons. Sitting on the visible spectrum between cyan and yellow, the colour green is typically associated with balance, harmony and nature. Green also often evokes strong emotions around notions of growth, rejuvenation and rebirth. Hence, it stands to good reason that different hues of green feature prominently in our Club’s logo and livery.
The biggest exercise in green rejuvenation is undoubtedly the renovation of our Kranji course. At a high level, the scope of work includes replacing the turfs and sub-soil layers of all tee boxes, fairways and greens whilst retaining the overall blueprint of the award-winning Gary Player-designed layout. However, members can also expect the incorporation of new features designed to improve playability and safety. Based on players’ feedback and incident reports, members can expect more trees to be planted in designated locations to shield against wayward shots without compromising course aesthetics. Our signature par-3 at Hole #5 will also receive some interesting enhancements, including a pair of alternative tee-boxes. We expect these clever tweaks to redefine the playing experience when the renovation is completed. I will share more of such insights in this column over the course of the renovation as it progresses. The renovation of Kranji does mean heavier traffic on our Changi course. I would like to take this opportunity to remind members to continue repairing pitch marks and replacing divots after every shot. Whilst the course maintenance crew is working hard to deliver an enjoyable course experience every morning, your efforts in caring for our greens and fairways will go a long way in helping.
No club is complete without a robust youth development programme. It will please members to know that we stepped up our efforts to nurture green shoots for NSRCC’s golf future since the progressive reopening of events in the past six months. Under the watchful eye of Greens Committee Members, Tan Lay Har and Tan Kok Liang, our junior squad did us proud at the recently concluded SGA Junior Inter-Club League. Our juniors started with a flourish, winning Best in Division for both Girls’ and Overall Team categories in the first leg of competition. They took their winning form into the second leg by winning Best in Division again for both Boys’ and Overall Team. After an epic battle in the final rounds, our team came home with 1st Runner-Up honours in all three categories – Overall Team, Girls’ and Boys’ with SGA’s Junior Development Squad hot on our heels in 2nd Runner-Up position. Two of our junior golfers, Aaron Wee and Passion Hsu, also earned places in the SGA Junior Development Squad.
Lastly, green is the colour of one of everybody’s favourite seasons of the year. I hear many members already have year-end travel plans well in place. I wish you and your families, safe travels and happy vacationing. For those who choose to spend the year-end holiday season closer to home, I hope you will avail yourself of the many family-friendly activities and scrumptious F&B promotions the Club has in store. I also look forward to seeing members pepper the course with traditional colours of green, red and white during the week of the Yuletide season. To members who celebrate it, on behalf of our NSRCC family, let me wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and a season filled with peace, joy and happiness!

The feeling is just amazing! My last hole-in-one was in 2003 and I had gotten close quite a few times. Just when you think it’s not going to happen, it happens! So fellow golfers, keep trying.

Renovation of the golf course at NSRCC Kranji has been going well since it started in September. The first phase, which consists of the removal of organic layer, existing sand, gravel and surface sub-soils as well as their off-site disposal, have been completed.
we are going into the second phase, which consists of the installation of sub-soil drainage, gravel, backfilling with sand, shaping, and re-grassing. The second phase is expected to complete by November. Upon its completion, the new sub-soil drainage will speed up the movement of water into and through the soil profile after heavy rainfall, allowing golfers to better enjoy their game when play resumes.
The final phase, which is to grow-in the turf and maintenance until handover, is expected to complete in December. The sprigs will need about two to three months to grow, adapt and mature. During that period, more trees will also be planted to shield against wayward shots. Thereafter, touch up works - such as repainting all wooden signages, hazard markers and road curbs - will follow.
The project remains on time as scheduled and members can look forward to play at the renovated 9-hole in Mar 2023. The Gary Player-designed layout will remain the same, so the playing strategy will not change, but the renovated golf course at NSRCC Kranji will certainly offer members who play there a refreshing golfing experience!
Removal of organic turf layer at all greens were completed in mid Oct
Installation of the drainage outlet and subsoil drainage at all bunkers are in progress
The team of young golfers who represented NSRCC at the inaugural Singapore Golf Association Junior InterClub League (SGA-JICL) 2022 scored a total of 68 points to be named the Overall 1st Runner-Up. Team NSRCC is also the 1st Runner-Ups for the Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions.
SGA-JICL is a 4-leg Stableford series involving junior golfers from six local clubs and the SGA Future Squad. The first leg kicked off at NSRCC Kranji, where Team NSRCC was in the lead with 25 points.
During the second leg at Warren Golf & Country Club, Team NSRCC scored another 25 points. The third leg was abandoned due to inclement weather. The final leg was held at Singapore Island Country Club on Sep 12 and Team NSRCC scored 18 points.
We spoke to four of our junior golfers, Micah Tyler Teo, Jovier Peh, Ashlynn Choo and Ashley Wee on their experience. The SGA-JICL marked the first time that Micah, Jovier and Ashley represented NSRCC in a national competition. As for Ashlynn, she also represented the Club for the SGA InterClub League.

“I feel proud that I was one of the few chosen to participate in this event, and I know that I came out of the SGA-JICL as a better player.”
Best Memory during SGA-JICL: My putt on the first hole, which helped me start the game positively with a Par. I felt relieved and happy!
Learning Points from SGA-JICL: Punctuality, practice and confidence are important; there will always be pressure when participating in a tournament, but it is important to lower your expectations and not to be too hard on yourself after making a mistake.
14 years old Started golfing at: 6 years old
“I am very honoured to be given the opportunity to participate and represent my Club in the SGA-JICL.”
Best Memory during SGA-JICL: Every memory with my team is precious as we had a lot of fun playing and competing on the course. Every week, we practice together and learn a lot from each other, and it helps to strengthen our bond.
Learning Points from SGA-JICL: Being part of Team NSRCC has taught me many values, such as self-discipline and the importance of being punctual. I would like to thank everyone who gave me this opportunity to learn new things and to represent NSRCC.
ASHLYNN CHOO15 years old Started golfing at: 4 years old
“I feel proud to have been chosen to represent my Club, and I believe it was a very enriching experience for me.”
Best Memory during SGA-JICL: My fondest memory was when Uncle Andrew (Cher) comforted me after I was upset with one of my rounds. The overall support given to me throughout the league was undoubtedly what kept me going.
Learning Points from SGA-JICL: I really learnt what it means to be a team, from filling in for an injured teammate to being there for each other, experiences like these are not something that I can encounter all by myself.
13 years old Started golfing at: 7 years old
“It was an honour for me to be able to represent NSRCC to compete against great junior players from other clubs. It was challenging and a great experience to play in different golf courses.”
Best Memory during SGA-JICL: Golf is usually an individual sport, but this time we fought as a team, which gave me a greater sense of responsibility and pride. We were very united as a team and this is my best memory and favourite part of being part of Team NSRCC for SGA-JICL.
Learning Points from SGA-JICL: Through playing the SGA-JICL as Team NSRCC, I learned the importance of teamwork and to never give up. Always try our best and enjoy the journey with no regrets!
Besides clinching the Champion’s trophy for Men’s A Division as well as 2nd Runner-Up medals for Men’s Senior Division and Ladies’ A Division as reported in the previous edition of Resort View, Team NSRCC also emerged as the Champion of Men’s B Division in the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) Inter-Club League 2022.
While they did not finish the first and third legs, and the second leg was abandoned due to inclement weather, our Men’s B Division secured the top position of the fourth leg at Tanah Merah Country Club with 11 points.
For the final leg at Changi Golf Club, our Men’s B Division continued their superior performance with another 11 points and was named the Champion with a total of 22 points, 7 points ahead of the 1st Runner-Up from Tanah Merah Country Club.
Once again, thank you for making us proud, Team NSRCC!
10 charging points for electric vehicles (EV) have been installed at three different carparks within NSRCC Changi.
At Carpark B, which is located near the Sky Range, there are four EV charging points that will begin operating around mid-November to early December.
The remaining six EV charging points – three at Carpark E located near the Main Entrance and another three located near the Bungalows – will start operations at the same time. The date will be advised later.
Over at NSRCC Kranji, four EV charging points are undergoing installation. Thereafter, testing will be conducted before operations begin. The charging points are targeted to be ready for use by the third week of November.
With these EV charging points around the Club, we hope that it will provide convenience to our members and guests, while supporting the vision of a greener Singapore.

Prefer a poolside ambience? Then, the outdoor seating area which overlooks the Swimming Pools, is perfect for you. Or, spend a minimum of $200 to chill and relax at the VIP outdoor seating area featuring plush cushion sofas surrounded by greenery.
