As always, we take pride in giving recognition to another group of more than 20 dedicated staff members from various departments for their long service of between 5 and 25 years. Well done folks!

Dear NSRCCMemberscelebrated

• Limited flights have been arranged at four other golf clubs for the benefit of members. These clubs are: Orchid, Seletar, Sembawang and Warren. More details of the renovation and mitigating measures can be found in this issue of RV. Our golfers have done well in the recently concluded Inter-Club League organised by the Singapore Golf Association (SGA). They captured the title in the Men’s A Division and were 2nd runners-up in the Men’s Senior Division and Ladies’ A Division. Congratulations! Meanwhile our younger golfers are showing their mettle by winning the opening leg of the SGA Junior Inter-Club League on Aug 1.

• Green fee rebates will be given for 2 x 9-hole games.

If you have not had the time to read about the measures that the Club has introduced to mitigate the effects of the renovation on golfers, here are the salient points:

The much talked about year-long renovation of our Kranji golf course has finally started.

The afternoon games commenced with Gotong Royong at around 12.30pm. Most of the golfers were attired in the exclusive NS55-themed t-shirts which were part of the event goodie bags, and were kept busy repairing divots and pitch marks at their assigned holes.

The much anticipated Durian Fiesta returned to the Courtyard at NSRCC Changi on the evening of Jul 9, after its hiatus due to pandemic-related restrictions. Participants flocked in early to savour the free flow of Musang King durians. Besides the king of fruits, a wide variety of exotic fruits including lychee, longan and mangosteen, were also included in the all-you-can-eat buffet. The night was complemented with durian-themed background music and entertainment including quizzes. Several lucky participants went home with prizes from the giveaway quizzes. It was definitely a night to be remembered, with participants leaving satisfied after indulging in their cravings for the king of fruits.

Invisalign is a clear aligner system used to straighten the teeth. Invisalign aligners are custom-made for every individual using advanced 3D technology. By wearing the aligners and changing them as prescribed by the dentist, the Invisalign aligners gradually move the teeth to the desired positions.

The orthodontist conducts a clinical and X-ray examination of your teeth and jaws. A 3D scan of the teeth is performed for accurate treatment planning and design. With the information collected, a series of customised clear aligners is designed and created.

To ensure that treatment is progressing well, the orthodontist will meet you once every one to three months for a review. If everything is going on track, you may receive more aligners so that you can progress at your own convenience, and minimise frequent trips to the orthodontist.

The Invisalign aligners are designed to apply the right amount of pressure when they are worn over the teeth. Each set of aligners moves your teeth gradually, so as you change your aligners as prescribed, you will be able to see your teeth straighten over time. How effective is Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment is highly effective and produces excellent results when combined with good patient compliance. This simply means that you will need to wear the aligners as prescribed, in the right order and for the right amount of time every day.

WHAT IS INVISALIGN?

When the aligners arrive in the clinic, the orthodontist will guide you in fitting the aligners properly over your teeth. The Invisalign aligners are worn in a certain order according to the orthodontist’s instructions, and changed every one to two weeks. This will be repeated throughout your Invisalign journey.

Invisalign clear aligners are the most comfortable and the most aesthetic type of braces. These advantages make Invisalign invisible braces a popular treatment of choice for many who want to straighten their teeth.

SEP/OCT 2022 GREENSIDEMATTERS

Fellow Members, It feels like time has flown right by since my last installment of Greenside Matters. Much has transpired including neighbouring countries gradually lifting their COVID-19 restrictions. Consequently, the return of leisure travel has seen many of our members resuming their overseas golfing expeditions. Even as we hear the exuberant chatter of these recent golfing exploits being recounted around the Clubhouse, we have also seen some of the pressure on our golfing inventory ease up, resulting in more happy faces all round.  I am also pleased to share that while members have been catching up on golf games lost, both local and overseas, we have also not forgotten those less privileged. I want to thank our members, sponsors, the Greens Committee and Club Staff and Management once again for a very successful Charity Golf event. The amount raised and donated this year surpassed the last event in 2019 pre-COVID-19 by 30%. Our members know how to have fun, but importantly, we have also clearly demonstrated that we also care and share just as enthusiastically. This was swiftly followed by a very successful SAF & NS Day Golf tournament where we saw 200 members pit their skills on our Changi course. We expect to cap off an eventful year with our Captain’s Cup (which would have taken place by time of publication). Our beloved Kranji course will be the scene of this final epic battle of golfing skill and wit before we begin its long overdue renovations come Sep 5. More on that in the next Onissue.other Club and golfing matters, I am happy to announce that NSRCC will be well represented on the newly constituted SGA Executive Board through my involvement as Chair of SGA’s Handicap Committee. Our Ladies’ Vice-Captain Tan Lay Har, has also been appointed to the SLGA’s Executive Committee in the capacity of Honorary Secretary. This augers well for our Club’s active involvement in critical areas like talent, youth, skills and rules development. We are indeed privileged to be given this opportunity to participate in the continued evolution of local golf, and are committed to flying the NSRCC flag with pride nationally.

The project scope will be to replace the turfs and sub-soil layers of all tee boxes, fairways and greens. This will bring the course conditions to as good as new. The Gary Player designed layout will remain the same, therefore the playing strategy will not change. However, some enhancement features on safety will be strengthened, such as planting more trees in specific locations to shield against wayward shots. The schedule for the two phases of each 9-hole are as follows:

In August 2021, the Club announced a plan to renovate our Kranji golf course as it reached its mid-term maintenance cycle. However, the Club deferred the project several times due to the high golfing demand caused by closed borders.

With the reopening of international borders in recent months, we have observed that the golfing demand in our Kranji golf course has eased significantly. Therefore, the previously deferred renovation plan will proceed as planned. Long requested by our members, work will start from September 2022 to improve the course conditions.

The 12-month renovation project will be developed over two phases, with a 9-hole course closed for 6 months each phase. Therefore, one 9-hole will remain opened for play at all times, and members can play 2 x 9-hole for a game of 18-hole.

NSRCC IS MEN’S A CHAMPIONDIVISION AT SGA INTER-CLUB LEAGUE 2022 By Mohd Fadzli Abdullah, Executive (Golf, NSRCC Kranji) Team NSRCC is ready for the Inter-Club League!

THANK

OurjoyfulchampionsfromMen’sADivision(PhotoCredit:SGA)Ladies’ADivisionposingwith

Singapore Golf Association (SGA) resumed the Inter-Club League this year after its hiatus since 2019. However, the league was conducted over fewer legs played at only two hosting clubs, unlike previous years. Furthermore, each club was allowed to be represented by only 18 players per leg, down from 30 players in 2019. These changes certainly did not dampen the spirit of NSRCC’s league players, although the team had a slow start. During the first leg on Mar 13, Team NSRCC finished in sixth position with 29 points. The second leg was abandoned due to inclement weather. For the third leg on Apr 6, NSRCC climbed up the scoreboard and took the fifth position with 39 points. • Place your ball-position slightly back in your stance (approximately one ball right). Aim more to the right as the ball tends to go left. Ball below Feet

Front FrontBack Back Give it a try and I am sure this will help you conquer uneven lies. Happy golfing!

• Take a longer club as you will generally lose a bit of distance hitting from an uphill lie.

• Place the ball-position slightly forward in your stance (approximately one ball left). Aim more to the left as the ball tends to go right. To summarise, when playing from an uneven lie, (1) Get a wider stance to have better stability; (2) Minimise body movement; and (3) Lean with, and swing along the gradient of the slope.

• Lastly, place your ball-position slightly forward in your stance (approximately one ball left) and aim more to the right as the ball tends to go to the left. Ball above Feet • Stand taller and closer to the ball. Choke down on the grip of your club and swing normally.

23TEE TALK

• Set your weight more towards your heels and adopt more flex in the knees at address.

• Place your ballposition centered or slightly back in your stance (approximately one ball right), and swing along the gradient of the slope.

PLAYING FROM UNEVEN LIES

• Aim more to the left as the ball tends to go to the right.

• Set your shoulders parallel to the slope, and get your upper body leaning along the slope. This will allow you to achieve better contact.

• If your shoulders are too “level”, the tendency would be to hit steeply into the ground.

• Take less club as the ball flight generally goes lower. Setup with your body leaning with the slope.

Ever wondered how to play from uneven lies? I often get asked by students on how to play from such lies, and in this article, I will illustrate and explain how to do so. Downhill
