THE EDITOR SPEAKS Dear Members In this issue of RV, NSRCC President, Lt Gen Melvyn Ong, reviews the Club’s operations and activities as it navigates the ups and downs of the on-going Covid-19 pandemic. He also gives us a glimpse of the Club’s future plans for the benefit of its members and other stakeholders. If the two young bowlers on the cover look strikingly familiar to you, yes they have graced our cover before. Cheah Ray Han was featured way back in 2017, fresh from his triumph at the SEA Games. And more recently in 2019, Xavier Teo took the spotlight after his win in a regional championship in Taiwan. Both have since gone on to bigger and better things and we did a catch-up with them to update you on their latest bowling achievements. The duo’s winning trajectory in bowling mirrors that of their friends in golf; two sports with highly successful junior training programmes run by NSRCC. In a companion piece, we profile some outstanding young golfers in the Junior Golf Development Programme such as Passion Hsu, Keeshaun Tan and Aaron Wee. Fans of NSRCC’s signature golf event, Charity Golf, will be cheered to know that it has made a return and will be held on May 21-22 at the Changi course. Beneficiaries include Children’s Wishing Well, Club Rainbow (Singapore) and SAF Care Fund. More good news as other key golf events on the Club’s calendar will also be returning this year: President’s Trophy in March, Captain’s Cup in June and SAF/NS Competition in July. As you are aware, Charity Golf and all these other events have been suspended since the beginning of the pandemic. Last but not least, kudos to all NSRCC staff members for their hard work and dedication in keeping members happy and satisfied with services across the Club. The 2021 Annual Membership Survey shows improvements in overall satisfaction, service, quality and value for money.
Regards, Chua Swee Kiat EDIT O R

YOUTH BOWLING
Cheah Ray Han in action at the Singapore Nationals Championship
W
e are proud to share that there is now a world medallist among NSRCC youth bowlers! 22-year-old Cheah Ray Han brought home two medals from the 2021 WTBA World Tenpin Bowling Championships that was held in Dubai. “I got a silver medal in the Men’s Team event and a bronze medal in the Mixed Team event. Upon winning both Men’s Team and Mixed Team quarter-final matches to guarantee a medal, I was over the moon. The first thing I thought of was that I was finally a world medallist and that I could not wait to share this achievement with my family and friends,” he shared excitedly. “It was an exciting and surreal experience for me as these are my first two world championships medals. To be able to compete amongst the best bowlers in the world was just unreal. Furthermore, we also made history by bringing home a silver medal in the Men’s Team event, a first in history for Singapore – which made the silver medal even more special.”
Ray Han (second from right) with his teammates who won silver at the World Bowling Championships
Ray Han also recently won the title of Men’s Open 2nd Runner-Up at the 51st Singapore Nationals Championship 2021. The award means that he is the third-best bowler locally. Ray Han began training with the NSRCC Bowling Academy when he was 14 years old. “The training here (at the Club) has given me the foundation needed to succeed as a competitive bowler before I entered the national team.” He added, “I still bowl at some NSRCC events and tournaments such as the Quarterly Medals and the Annual Bowling Championships to keep myself mentally sharp and ready to compete in other major tournaments.” For Ray Han, his ultimate goal is becoming a World Champion and a Professional Bowlers Association Champion. Thus, he considers his two World Championship medals as “a huge stepping stone” towards that goal. Ray Han plans to participate in the 2022 World Bowling Championships and is aiming for gold. However, his immediate target is to qualify for the SEA Games and achieve a gold medal for the nation.

Assistant Executive (Corporate Communications)
We are also proud to share that NSRCC has officially produced the top bowler in Singapore! He is none other than our youth bowler, Xavier Teo, who clinched the Champion title for Men’s Open category at the 51st Singapore Nationals Championship 2021. The championship, organised by Singapore Bowling Federation, is regarded as the biggest bowling tournament at the national level with participation by some of the best local bowlers. Recalling the eventful experience, Xavier said, “I was super focused as my mindset was in the right zone. The adrenaline was high as well, as it was the first tournament in a long time. I am satisfied with my performance as I felt that I showed improvements in the things that I worked on during training, and I managed to apply it during the tournament.” “I had to win three games in a row to win the tournament, so I was very happy as this is my first adult title. This latest achievement shows me that my hard work is paying off and it just motivates me to work even harder to achieve bigger things.” This year marks a decade since Xavier, who is now 21 years old, began his bowling training at NSRCC. “My decade of bowling at NSRCC has been absolutely fulfilling and fruitful. The coaches, Coach Ben Ang and Coach Derek Chan, have helped me to build my foundation before I entered the Singapore Sports School and was selected into the National Team, and I am eternally grateful for their guidance,” he shared. Xavier added, “NSRCC has also consistently supported us in our participation in competitions such as Singapore Open, Singapore Nationals and even overseas tournaments such as the MILO Junior All Stars in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. These opportunities aided us in getting valuable exposure and experience, which helped me to level up my game.”
So, what is next for Xavier?

6 CLUB HAPPENINGS
NSRCC And Our Way Forward In The Chief of Defence Force/ NSRCC Club President
Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong
L
et me begin by thanking members for your firm support of the club over the last two years. As a resort and country club for NSmen and your families, the Club remains committed to its inherent mission to serve our members to the best of our ability. I believe that members and staff have worked well together to ensure that the NSRCC experience continues to be a pleasant one amidst the ups and downs during the pandemic. Let me also thank my fellow General Committee colleagues, sub-committee members and Club staff who have worked tirelessly to run club operations, and look for opportunities to improve the NSRCC experience as we progress towards a post-pandemic new normal. Please allow me to recap the journey over the past two years, and highlight some of the re-development opportunities and improvements to the club as we chart our way forward.
SUPPORTING THE NATIONAL FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19 NSRCC supported the national fight against COVID-19 and played our part at various junctures during the pandemic. Bungalows at NSRCC Changi were used as Government Quarantine Facilities (GQF) over two periods from Feb to Nov 2020, and May to Nov 2021. Club staff also stepped forward to support GQF operations, including performing 24/7 ops room duties while Club operations continued unabated. Parts of NSRCC Kranji were also converted into a temporary recovery and dormitory facility in Jul 2020, and housed up to 1,500 migrant workers during its operations. In Apr 2021, this facility was re-purposed by the Ministry of Health into a temporary vaccination centre for migrant workers. From Sep 2021 till Jan 2022, it served as a Community Care Facility for recovering migrant workers. It continues to run as a vaccination centre for migrant workers. Through it all, these operations at NSRCC Changi and Kranji were carried out with the health and safety of our members in mind, with minimal disruption to club operations. Despite additional duties for our staff, staff morale never wavered and many colleagues have told me that they would step forward again if our Club had to be used for these operations. This is the mettle of our staff, and I am proud of them.

8 CLUB HAPPENINGS
RECENT REDEVELOPMENT AND ENHANCEMENTS TO NSRCC NSRCC is also constantly improving the quality of our Club facilities. Some of you might have noticed some improvements over the last few years.
Golfing Facilities In Sep 2019, we introduced the first elevated driving range in Southeast Asia at NSRCC Changi. Moving ahead, we will renovate the ageing NSRCC Kranji golf course from Q3 2022. Members can look forward to a refreshed golfing experience when one of the two upgraded 9-hole courses is ready for play in Q2 2023. To support this, the Club will continue to implement its no-guest policy to balance golfing demands. In addition, our balloting system will also continue to ensure equitable access to golfing slots. In a survey conducted last year, I am glad that up to 80% of our members have voiced their support for the balloting system.
Our very own driving range, the NSRCC Sky Range
Our members practising their swings at the Sky Range
Social and Recreational Facilities The Club also carried out improvement work to our bungalows in Q3 2018 and refreshed our family staycation options for both members and guests. We gave new coats of paint to every unit, added new furniture to bedrooms, and upgraded the kitchen facilities. The living room with a new look!
To appeal to our fitness enthusiasts, the Club also refreshed the ‘look and feel’ of the Fitness Centre at NSRCC Changi, including a new look for our main entrance, and larger outdoor workout areas to meet the increasing gym demands from our members.

CLUB HAPPENINGS 9
Over at NSRCC Kranji, we expanded the food options at Fairway Cafe to include every Singaporean’s favourite “Zhi Char” dishes, and members can also now enjoy their meals at our new outdoor patio. Finally, the Club will be breaking new ground as we build a Social and Recreational Hub adjacent to the Sea Sports Centre. This will herald a significant, exciting new phase for NSRCC. Plans are underway and we hope to reach out to our younger NSmen and members with this new facility. We will share new details soon. With these redevelopments and improvement plans in mind, we hope that NSRCC will continue to be a valued destination for golfers and your families.
New patio at Kranji’s Fairway Cafe
GOING GREEN As part of the whole-of-nation movement towards sustainable development, NSRCC will also begin our green journey. We will progressively replace lighting fixtures at both Changi and Kranji Clubhouses with energy-saving LED lights. We will also collaborate with SP Group to supply and install Electric Vehicle charging stations at both Clubhouses. In addition, a plot of land at NSRCC Kranji has been designated as a solar farm to generate power for the Clubhouse’s use and for charging the golf buggies. I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage our members to opt out of the hard copy of the Club newsletter and stay paperless. I believe everyone can do our part, and NSRCC will do ours too!
RESTARTING GOLFING EVENTS As we move towards a post-pandemic “new normal”, the Club will be progressively restarting all its highly anticipated golfing events starting from Mar 2022, including the return of our Charity Golf event from 21-22 May 2022. This charity event will allow our NSmen members to give back to the less advantaged in Singapore, and we look forward to your support. In closing, I wish to thank all NSRCC members for your understanding and patience especially over the last two years of the pandemic. The Club appreciates your support and we look forward to more improvements and redevelopments at our Club, and new activities for golfers and families.
I WISH EVERYONE GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS, AND A PURPOSEFUL 2022.

NSRCC CHANGI AND KRANJI ARE CERTIFIED
W
e are pleased to announce that both of our Changi and Kranji Clubhouses have been awarded the SG Clean Quality Mark!
To be accorded the award, the Club had to undergo an assessment based on a checklist of requirements for sanitation and hygiene standards. The requirements include ensuring that staff observe strict personal hygiene, implementing proper refuse management practices, pest control programme and air-conditioning ventilation system, as well as disinfecting regularly at high contact touch points around the Club including toilets, changing rooms and common areas. The mark was established by National Environment Agency (NEA) in Feb 2020, at the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, with the purpose of raising the standard of cleanliness and public hygiene in Singapore. The mark is valid until mid 2022, and the Club will continue upholding a high hygiene standard for continuous re-certification. We hope that with this certification, our members and guests will be assured that the Club is doing its best to provide a clean and hygienic environment for everyone.

ADVISORY ON
SMS PHISHING SCAMS IMPERSONATING COMPANIES AND BUSINESSES There has been a rise in the number of phishing attempts impersonating organisations using links in SMS to trick individuals into providing sensitive information for illegal motives. NSRCC will not send any link in SMS to our members. If you encounter any messages of such nature, please DO NOT click on the link. Please report this to us immediately as it may be fraudulent. In general, members should take a 2-step approach to prevent phishing attempts. The first step is establishing if the website or email address is legitimate: a)
Scammers may use a fake website address that resembles a real one. Therefore, members are advised to always check the URL inside the address bar or email link to ensure the correct NSRCC domain is www.nsrcc.com.sg;
b)
Members can locate the “lock” icon beside URL to check the security certificate and the URL would have a prefix of “https://” to indicate that a secured connection is established;
c)
Verify if the sender’s email address is the officially published address listed in our RV magazine and website: e.g. golfing@nsrcc.com.sg or membership@nsrcc.com.sg (both are correct) vs golfing@golfnsrcc.com (incorrect)
If after checking, members are still unsure of the identity of the sender/website link, it will be safer to take a second step which is to manually type out the email or website address to proceed further. Our official email addresses are published in our RV magazine and website. Managing fraud risk is an ongoing process and we are committed to protecting our members from phishing scams. If you are in doubt of the above, please email us at feedback@nsrcc. com.sg for further assistance. Thank you for your continued co-operation with NSRCC.

T
he closing ceremony of the Community Facility (CF) at Kranji, which is located within NSRCC Kranji, was held on Jan 19, and graced by Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad.
In his address, Mr Zaqy thanked the staff for their commitment and contributions to the national fight against COVID-19. He also commended the close cooperation among more than 20 organisations and agencies, including NSRCC, towards a common goal of keeping Singapore safe. During the ceremony, representatives from various organisations that were involved in the setting up and operation management of the CF at Kranji received appreciation plaques from Mr Zaqy.
NSRCC General Manager Mr Ng Heng Chew receiving a plaque of appreciation from SMS Mr Zaqy Mohamad
In support of the Whole-of-Government effort to manage the COVID-19 situation, the CF at Kranji was developed in May 2020 and initially served as a temporary dormitory to house migrant workers. As the local COVID-19 situation evolved, the CF functioned as a regional screening centre and was repurposed to a Community Isolation Facility to accommodate recovering patients. During its 20 months of operations, the facility served over 70,000 migrant workers, including 67,000 who received their vaccinations. The facility also housed over 1,500 migrant worker residents in 2020 and supported the care and recovery of 1,700 COVID-19 patients in 2021. The facility successfully completed its operations on Jan 7. Nevertheless, parts of the facility continue to be managed by the Ministry of Manpower as a vaccination centre for migrant workers.

RESULTS OF
ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP SURVEY
2021
OVERALL NSRCC conducts its membership survey to ascertain members’ satisfaction towards the various facilities and services of the Club. The survey also helps to gather feedback to determine the various areas which need improvement. For 2021, 1,300 respondents took part in the survey, and we are glad that our members are pleased with the quality and services that we have rendered for the past year. We have maintained our overall satisfaction rates in several areas. The Club also saw an improvement in ratings for F&B facilities and overall value for money. GOLFING Our golfing facilities continue to be highly popular at both locations, with ratings for NSRCC Kranji rising higher than 2020’s results. NSRCC Changi’s ratings remained consistent with the previous year. The Club will continue to do its best in ensuring that our members will have an enjoyable golfing experience at both courses. FOOD & BEVERAGE The ratings for F&B facilities for both NSRCC Changi and Kranji have improved significantly since the previous year. We are happy to know that members have noticed these improvements of our F&B services, across Passion Cafe, Bistro Bowl, Fu Lin Men Chinese Restaurant, and Fairway Cafe. The Club will continue to heighten the standards based on feedback and suggestions from our members. BUNGALOWS For our bungalows, the ratings for 2021 indicated that members are pleased with the availability of units. We would like to thank members for their patience while our bungalows served as a Government Quarantine Facility as part of the Whole-of-Government efforts in the fight against COVID-19.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF… A CSO AT NSRCC KRANJI
By Nur Isyana,
Assistant Executive (Corporate Communications)
In this series of articles, we bring our readers closer to NSRCC staff by
getting to know a little more about them. In this article, we introduce Low Wan Sia from NSRCC Kranji.
W
ith her cheerful disposition and friendly smile, Customer Service Officer (CSO) Low Wan Sia is wellliked by those who patronise NSRCC Kranji. It is no wonder that she has received numerous service excellence awards - three quarterly awards and an annual award since joining the team in May 2017. The CSOs at NSRCC Kranji work two shifts, either from 6.30am to 3.30pm or from 9.00am to 6.00pm. When Wan Sia works the earlier shift, her day starts with registering golfers for their morning games. The registration usually continues until 9.30am after which she goes for a short break. Wan Sia elaborated, “When I return to my workstation at 10.00am, I will contact golfers to confirm their waitlist bookings. From 11.00am to 2.00pm, I will serve golfers who come in for their games in the afternoon. After that, I will do administrative tasks that have been designated to me, such as updating locker rentals.”
On days when Wan Sia works the other shift that starts at 9.00am, she begins her day by answering emails and calls from members who enquire about matters such as golf bookings and Club facilities. This occupies her time until lunch break. “After my afternoon break, I will prepare to serve members for their evening 9-hole games. Members usually start coming in at 4.00pm. I will serve them until the end of my shift.” When asked what keeps her going daily, Wan Sia answered, “A happy working environment, where everyone treats each other like brothers and sisters in one happy family.”

CAR WAXES, SEALANTS AND COATINGS – WHICH IS By Sanger Sharm,
Member, The International Detailing Association, and Director, Valiant Auto Grooming
BETTER?
With the slew of options for paint protection for your car, it can be confusing when deciding on the type that best suits your lifestyle and your car. A professional detailer can recommend what is best for you based on the usage of your car. Let’s go through the main types of protection: waxes, sealants and coatings.
WAXES – Generally easy to apply, waxes used to be the
most common form of protection way before sealants and coatings became very high tech and popular. Natural car waxes are derived from carnauba palm. They provide great water and dirt repelling qualities, a beautiful showroom shine but because they are natural, they will not last very long. These are best used on showroom cars or on sheltered car collections that have low mileage. When compared to organic ones, synthetic waxes last longer and are cheaper to buy than natural carnauba waxes, which are very expensive. Paste or liquid waxes are usually applied and buffed by hand, but you can be sure of burning a lot of calories while doing so.
Natural wax provides beautiful shine but will not last long
Synthetic wax lasts longer than natural wax but are expensive
SEALANTS – Regardless of the form they come in (spray-on or liquid forms
that are applied and buffed or rinsed), sealants offer excellent and medium-term protection to paint than waxes. Sealants also add shine and lustre to the paint with a smooth finish. Sealants are synthetic chemicals that form and bond over the vehicle, thus preventing dirt and contaminants from degrading or bonding on the paint. This makes it easier to wash, helps to maintain the vehicle and keeps its lustre longer. Sealants offer better protection than waxes
COATINGS – Ceramic coatings, a semi-permanent form of protection,
are very popular now for their very slick finish, great long-lasting protection and brilliant shine. There are some spray-on forms that are easy to apply but will not last as long as a good quality coating that is applied by hand using an applicator. Ceramic coating is a nano-technology that comprises mainly silicon dioxide. A 9H hardness level on a ceramic coating refers to how strong it is against scratches when cured. This rating is given based on how strong the coating is against scratches using a graphite pencil. The wide price range of coatings depends on the brand, quality and application process. A good coating has to begin with proper paint correction polishing, which is pertinent to how the final result will be. It is the painstaking process that is the factor that makes or breaks the final result, which can take at least four to six hours, or even more.
A car surface before (left) and after (right) applying ceramic coating
The golden question: among these options, which is better for cars? Sealants or coatings are recommended for people with active lifestyles. This includes golfers, whose cars are usually parked outdoors under the sky for hours when they go off for their golf game, thus frequently exposing the cars to external elements such as dried leaves and bird droppings. Sealants have to be re-applied anywhere from two to six months, while coatings last for a year or even more if proper periodic maintenance is carried out by your detailer. The key is to protect the vehicle consistently from external elements thus maintaining the quality, value and pleasure of driving your automobile.

MATTERS
Fellow NSRCC Members and Golfers, I hope everyone had a meaningful and enjoyable festive month of February with family and close friends. I am glad life is returning to some semblance of normalcy albeit with some precautionary measures remaining in place to temper any exuberance which can derail the steady progress we have made. Thank you again to all members for working closely together with the club to make this possible - truly a commendable TEAM NSRCC effort! The brief Lunar New Year break also gave me time to reflect on our golfing year ahead. NSRCC continues to operate two of the busiest golf courses in the country. While most assume this surge in demand for golf is fueled by the pandemic, an interesting article I read recently ascribed this global phenomenon to an interesting insight - a resurgence in competitive golf. After a 2-year dry spell, championship golf returned to our shores in the form of the Singapore International and the SMBC Singapore Open, providing us with back-to-back weekends of professional golf action in our own backyard with million dollar purses and British Open qualifying slots at stake. The HSBC Women’s World Championship also returns come March giving fans more world class sporting action to look forward to. Most of us golfers love a good contest. It gets even better when it occurs in our own backyard. Hence, it gives me great pleasure to share that our move towards an endemic phase will be characterized by a return to competitive golf for our club as well. SGA has announced the resumption of the National Inter-Club League. NSRCC will field Men’s and Ladies’ teams in all 7 contested divisions. Our courses will also play host to some of the rounds as our contribution to this national initiative. In keeping with the spirit, the club will also be reinstating our Monthly Medal competition. This will begin on a bi-monthly basis for now, more details to follow. Members will also be delighted to hail the return of our President’s Trophy in March, Captain’s Cup in June and SAF/NS Day Competition in July. We also continue to shine the spotlight on the young talent in our Junior Golf Development Program in this issue. They form a vital part of our golfing ecosystem. Last but not least, we are very excited about the return of our Annual Charity Golf come May. All proceeds go to our adopted charities so please support this generously. It is a good time to remember the many low income families whose disadvantage in life has been further exacerbated by the pandemic. And what better way to do it than during our charity golf event with the many attractive prizes including a hole-in-one prize of a Mercedes Benz E-Class. I will share more details in the next issue as we get closer to the date. We expect interest to be high, so book your spots early. Information is already available on the club website. I look forward to your active participation and support. Happy Golfing! WINSTON TOH Club Captain

SOME OF OUR CURRENT JGDP MEMBERS In this second instalment of a two-part feature on the Club’s Junior Golf Development Programme (JGDP), the current members share how the programme has helped in shaping them to be the golfers they are today and the achievements they have chalked up so far. Meet three of the 12 junior golfers in JGDP: Passion Hsu, Keeshaun Tan, and Aaron Wee.

Started golfing at: 3 years old Favourite hole at NSRCC: Changi Hole #6, where I scored many birdies. Goal for 2022: Play consistently under par and to be able to attain World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) soon
ACHIEVEMENTS • Participated in more than 50 golf tournaments locally and internationally • Champion of SGA Junior Golf 2021 Leg 4 • Champion of Singapore Junior Development Tour 2021 Leg 8, Open Junior Girls Division • First Runner-Up in EFG Singapore Junior Masters 2021 U13 Division • 61st position (out of 116 9-year-old female golfers) at USKids World Championship 2019 in Pinehurst, North Carolina • First Runner-Up at SportExcel Grand Finals 2018 in Malaysia • First Runner-Up at Menpora-Pagi International Junior Golf Tournament 2019 in Jakarta HER STORY “When I was three, I learnt about golf through a television show. From then on, I pestered my mother to bring me to a golf class. After attending the latter, I fell in love with the sport instantaneously. I recalled vividly a pleasant experience of putting a golf ball on the practice mat; the satisfaction of seeing the ball heading straight into the hole was beyond words. I was also very thankful to have met a dedicated golfing coach, Ms Bernie Tan, who has been with me since I was five years old till now. I joined JGDP in 2021 when I was 10 years old. I was surprised to be chosen as I was the youngest JGDP member. I am thankful that I am in this programme as I get the opportunity to play more courses and practise more with competitive golfing junior peers. We challenge each other during our practice sessions. This enabled me to set a higher benchmark towards achieving my goal in 2021, which was to play even par. The group is also a close-knit one and this allows The Golfing Lab coaches to guide the juniors more efficiently.”

Very happy to have achieved my first hole-inone and to have done it in the company of my great golf buddies!
So fortunate to achieve my second hole-in-one seven months after my first. Again, with my 6-iron for about 150 metres. It is even more amazing to achieve it with the same group of like-minded kakis. I would like to thank Steven, Winston and Mark once again for sharing the joyous moment.

It was a miserable day with heavy drizzle, so I had to wear my rain gear. I teed off at Hole #2 using my 9 Hybrid club. The ball took off nicely with good height and landed a metre in front of the pin, took one hop and rolled into the hole. I was stunned and only realised that I scored a Hole-in-One when my flightmates shouted with joy. It turned out to be an awesome and momentous day. I am truly overjoyed.
Santa is so kind to give me a hole-in-one on Christmas Eve! What’s a better present than a bragging right that lasts a lifetime, especially for a high handicapper like me!

OUR CHARITY GOLF 2022 BENEFICIARY: ABOUT
Club Rainbow (Singapore)
Club Rainbow (Singapore) (CRS) is a registered Singapore Charity of Institution of Public Character status (IPC). Since 1992, CRS has been supporting and empowering over 1,200 children with chronic illnesses and their families by providing compassionate relevant services. Armed with the firm belief that every child deserves equal opportunities to lead a fulfilling and independent life, CRS adopts a holistic approach based on five core support pillars to help the children and their families in their journey towards becoming empowered, independent individuals and active contributors to society.
From the Team at Club Rainbow (Singapore) Let’s have a good round for 2022! Since the onset of the pandemic, we have taken one step back to ensure that the critical and immediate needs of our beneficiaries and their families continue to be met. With two steps forward, beneficiaries continued to receive therapy support to minimise regression of their conditions through tele-therapy with the suspension of face-to-face sessions. Educational Support saw the adoption of electronic platforms to deliver the sessions, yielding the highest number of engagements since 2020 and remaining highest even in 2021. Those were the only activities we could successfully bring to our kids virtually. Daniel is among those who received support through tele-therapy
Beyond our beneficiaries’ early years’ foundation, we focus on their development and growth, learning valuable life skills like cooperation and collaboration. Talent Development Fund (TDF) is a grant awarded to our children to recognise and nurture their talents in diversified genres of performing and visual arts, sports and other areas of interest and as a form of motivation to encourage them to develop that talent. TDF is one of the many ways we support our beneficiaries to pursue their passion and achieve their dreams. Find out how Daniel, Syasya and many beneficiaries like them have benefitted from the meaningful and sustainable partnerships between the community and Club Rainbow (Singapore) by scanning the QR code below.

BE LIKE YASH By Brad McManus,
Director, International Golf Institute
If you want your child(ren) to be like Yash Majmudar, join International Golf Institute (IGI) located at NSRCC Sky Range. IGI Director Brad McManus has years of experience coaching young talents. He was Singapore’s National Golf Coach and was also the Head Golf Coach of the Singapore Sports School.
S
everal months ago, I was asked to write an article for a magazine in Dubai as my then student, Yash Majmudar, was turning professional. I thought I would not only share snippets of the article but also share what is involved in player-coach development and journey into the professional ranks. Every now and then as a coach, you meet someone with genuine talent. It is rare. My first real talent came in the form of an 11-year-old boy, Yash Majmudar. For six years until he was 16, I coached Yash weekly for an hour at NSRCC. It was not always about technique, but also about sharing his performances on-course, discussing how he practices, talking out positive and negative experiences, talking about his school and friends. I became Yash’s friend and confidant. We were a team.

Yash Majmudar, 24 years old - Scored his first hole-in-one at eight years old - Won the 2012 San Diego Junior Masters with rounds of 63 and 69; the round of 63 set a tournament record that included an eagle, eight birdies and a bogey - Youngest ever player to win the Singapore National Amateur Championship at 15 years old - Won the Yas Links Men’s Open in Feb 2021 with rounds of 66 and 72 for a 6-under par total of 138 Yash back when he attended training at NSRCC
Yash was exposed to many golf tournaments from a young age. He is a natural competitor and has always shown genuine ability. Most importantly though, he has a great work ethic and fantastic attitude. Combine that with a sports fanatic family, an extremely talented mother (Varsha was a national champion in Table Tennis and Snooker) and a perfectly supportive father (Nishit was involved but he also trusted the coach he selected) and you have a recipe for success! At 16 years old, Yash came to Houston with me to work alongside Australia’s and Japan’s national coaches. We exposed him to the best amateurs in the world. An experience we will never forget. Then, Yash attended college in the USA on a golf scholarship. We stayed in touch, it was hard to let go when your best player moves into another coach’s guidance. To this day, we remain close friends and still work on his golf when we get a chance but to be honest, these days it is more of moral support and minimal manipulation. He has become a fine golfer in his own right. Yash helped me to become a better coach, we both grew while working on his golf development together. Today, I sit back and admire his skill, his incredible length off the tee and his short game. Most of all, I admire his character. I’m proud to see Yash marching forward into the professional ranks. It is a process and he has been incredibly patient. I am proud to call his family my friends and I am proud to know I had a lot to do with this fine young man. Yash with one of his many trophies

AVOIDING G
olf is a great hobby that comes with many great health benefits. Most golfers both novice and pro golfers will at some point experience a degree of back pain. Lower-back pain is one of the most common symptoms from injuries, and the most frequently occurring problem for a golfer. Many professional golfers have undergone back surgery to help with chronic pain. Besides the lower back, other areas of injury include the neck, shoulders, elbows wrists, knees and ankles. However, chiropractic care can help golfers with these injuries and their golf games, and prevent the negative side effects of pain medication and surgery. Chiropractic care allows the whole body to perform at its best. The golf swing is a very athletic movement that involves the whole body. Swinging a club takes a lot of coordination between several body parts. The repetitive motion of swinging the club whether it’s hitting buckets of balls, playing three times a week or once a month can cause physical stresses and weaken the supportive elements of our musculoskeletal system. If one area of your body or one muscle is not able to perform at its optimal level, it can cause other parts of your body to overcompensate. One major issue that happens with any athlete, not just golfers, is that they go into the game with subluxations, or misalignments to the spine. These subluxations can be caused by everyday activities such as driving, DIY, gardening, work and other sports, anything that will put too much strain on your joints, ligaments and muscles. Muscles provide active support for the joints, movement and stability. Ligaments attach all of our bones together and tendons attach muscle to the bone providing passive support. The nervous system is the control centre of the body. The brain transmits to the spinal cord which then transmits messages

from the brain to the rest of the body. In between the vertebrae, the nerve roots exit the spinal cord to send messages to the hands, arms, legs etc. This allows you to swing the club and hit the desired shot. Due to a number of variables, previous injuries, poor fitness, being overweight, we can be predisposed to injury. This along with the repetitive nature of golf can cause injuries. The back, specifically the Lumbar Spine, is the main structure that absorbs the majority of the force. Tight muscles, joints and back will over time weaken the structural integrity of the spine and cause the vertebrae to move into an inefficient biomechanical position resulting in stiffness, muscular and nerve pain and a mechanically inefficient swing. Whether you golf for fun or sport you need to be fit to play. Exercise, core stability, and flexibility is key and having lessons with a PGA professional is highly advised. Chiropractors have extensive training in the biomechanics of human movement and will be able to identify the cause of the injury and treat it with the appropriate clinical techniques. Together with a PGA teaching professional you will have a dynamic team to help you with conditioning, core stability and cardiovascular exercises to highly improve your game.
