ADSPORTS XIII
Adventure Sports, or ‘Adsports’ as we call it, is one of the five subcommittees ODAC oversees. We are in our 13th year of bringing fun and joy to the club, with our focus being to help forge new bonds between ODAC members as well as strengthen existing ones. We achieved this with the efforts and ideas of our entire subcommittee, individuals who have come together with the common goal of providing ODAC members an opportunity to unwind, enjoy themselves and make wonderful memories. Throughout this work year, Adsports has held 3 events, namely “Aeon”, “Warathon” and “BAAM BAAM!”. “Paddles Up” is an overseas kayaking expedition that we hold annually; unfortunately, we were not able to see it through this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Nevertheless, we hope that all our participants have had a good time, and we are grateful for all their support.

WARATHON
OUR EVENTS AEON
Titled “Aeon”, our first event of the academic year was a mix of sports and team games that boosted participants’ teamwork and brought out their enthusiasm. As our event allowed teams to be made of members from different subcommittees, many new friendships were made alongside the comfort of existing ones, while playing exciting games. Participants were given tasks to complete on the side in-between games as well, and the event culminated in a showdown between teams that promoted spontaneity and stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Aeon also took place concurrently with a chalet right after the end of finals. With fresh-off-the-grill barbequed meats and delicious catered food, as well as games and plenty of heart-to-heart sessions, Aeon provided subcommers with a great opportunity to wind down and end the semester on a high note.
2
For our second event, Adsports brought to ODAC “Warathon”, an Amazing Race-esque event held at North Spine that saw participants working together to clear missions and locate hidden bonuses. Games in this event were more timebased and had teams pitted against each other, which determined their rankings and ultimately the size of their spoils. We also had unique games like leg wrestling and a game where teams had to protect a ring of players from opponents who tried to pry it open. Over the course of an afternoon, participants shared many laughs and smiles, having a good time together.
BAAM BAAM!
3
Event 3, “BAAM BAAM!” was held in NTU on the fields of SRC, to welcome subcommers back to school after recess week. It consisted of multiple activities ranging from human foosball and tug-of-war, to our main activity: bubble soccer! These activities further boosted the ties ODAC members had. The best part? The too-hard-to-pass opportunity to knock someone off their feet. Literally! Despite the excruciating heat, members put up a good fight as they had plenty of fun laughing nonstop and being knocked off their feet.
TO OUR DEAREST
ADSPORTS XIII, We just want to say thank you and good job for all you’ve done the past year. From our three events, to our kayaking courses, things weren’t exactly smooth sailing for us, but it all worked out nonetheless. And what a ride it’s been! From the start all the way to the end, you guys gave what you could, and then some. There were many obstacles that came our way, way more than what we expected, but we did what we could and worked with what we did anyway. Thank you all for your time and dedication to Adsports; it’s a shame that we couldn’t get together more because of clashing schedules but perhaps this year we can change that? From PT sessions and sunflower seeds, to mala meals (dala gang where you at) and steamboats and a lovehate relationship with luncheon meat, we truly hope these memories stick with you for a long time to come. Hope you rats all enjoyed yourself this year and do come back to have fun with Adsports14! P.S KUTU ROUND 2 P.S.S RIP PADDLES UP 2020

From going to recces in our respective teams, long Wednesday/Tuesday meetings, intense review sessions after dry run/step up and the time we hid 23 bikes in a house. Of course, don't forget the times we played hard too. Daunting subcomm trip to Lata Medang, chill Ipoh trip in December and very competitive late night frisbee sessions!
This work hard and play hard culture is something we, the seniors have been trying to inculcate and I'm glad to see all of you taking this mentality into your stride. Bringing a group of 22 distinct individuals together was never easy, but no matter the conflict or problem, we are touched to see all of you coming together in the end and having each other's back. For us, it has been a hell of a stressful journey to make this ATC the best one yet but seeing you guys bond with one another to become a family made us realized what is more important. So keep your heads high and we hope you guys step up next year to finish what the both of us started. We are proud of you guys!
Lastly, if you miss ATC'20, go to the DongSuaSa insta and take a trip down memory lane from our initial recces like memorable faces Joanne make and ups and downs of Sean and David's love story. We feel that the DSS insta is the second  best thing in ATC'20 coz the best thing is of course having you guys in our subcomm. Good luck to all of you and see you guys around!
YOUR FAVORITE SPOS ,
In view of the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is unfortunate that ATC'20 could not be held. Through our dry runs and recces this year, we can promise that we will come back with an improved ATC -- including interesting games and unique routes to keep you on your toes. To all adrenaline junkies, look out for ATC'21 -- a bigger, better and bolder race awaits you!

Adventure Trail Challenge, or ATC for short, is a sub-urban, multidisciplinary, timebased adventure race designed for amateurs and professional racers alike. Participants get to experience many heart-stopping adventure elements such as kayaking, abseiling, obstacle courses, and various team building activities, all while trying to beat the clock! This year we also incorporated a brand new Orienteering element into our dry run, in partnership with Orienteering Federation Singapore.

Pumpfest is an annual national bouldering competition proudly brought to you by NTU Outdoor Adventure Club (ODAC). Since its inception in 1998, it has been attracting a large number of participants. From its humble beginnings, Pumpfest has grown bigger and stronger, with participants not only from Singapore, but also from countries like France, Indonesia and Malaysia. This year marks the 23rd year of Pumpfest and our members had been tirelessly preparing for this highly anticipated event. However, due to the COVID-19 situation worsening, it is a pity that we could not see our event through. Nonetheless, we will rise stronger and better, to BREAKTHROUGH and come back with an even tougher and bolder climb!

TO PUMPFATZ (PUMPFEST XXIII)
Wow time really flies! A year has almost passed in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 situation, we were unable to accomplish our overarching goal, to organise and execute Pumpfest2020. However, don’t be disheartened. Though our event did not occur, the past year was definitely filled with much fun and laughter. From traversing the ‘easy’ Lata Medang Waterfalls

subcomm trip, to our short but sweet JB retreat in January, followed by CNY hotpot celebration and many more. To summarise this seemingly short year, Pumpfest23 was a non-toxic (drink water only) and extremely healthy (don’t eat macs/ pizza and every week PT) subcomm whose main aim was to get fit (100% true story). To our SWTs Jing Ting and Shu Han, thank you for all the hard work, from scrambling to secretly get everyone to write birthday cards during meetings, to writing the weekly meeting minutes that hardly anyone reads anyways. We appreciate your diligence and y’all taking the initiative to assist the SPOs in administrative matters. Although y'all did not experience the ‘hell period’ (sleepless nights during registrations and dealing with the flood of payments), we hope that the both of you have learnt new skills over the past year that will benefit you in future! To Julius, our bizmag solo carry, we did not get to meet many sponsors due to COVID’19 and most of your work was basically grunt email work. But we do hope that you found all these behind-the-scenes work useful, if not enriching. Since you’ll continue to participate in climbing comps, either as a participant or as an SA, we hope this is a platform for you to elevate yourself and further contribute to make your climbing journey more memorable! To our logs team (Ilman, Tommy, Jarrel, Ilyaas), guess y’all had nothing much to do (We did warn ya) haha! Most of your work was dedicated to either bizmag, pubs or EMS, which was pretty boring. Still, we are glad you guys tried to mingle and help in whatever way possible, and make our subcomm more bonded. The overseas retreat that logs were supposed to plan didn’t occur, but there will be more chances down the road as long as you all stay together! The fun part of Pumpfest for logs did not occur, but we are still proud of y’all! Cheers and see you all soon! (Shawn treating) To our Pubz (Pump it Out!) team (Zoe, Joelle, Zi En, Hedry), just want to start off by saying y'all did a really great job over the past year. Y'all really the most shag already! We understand that most of you were not equipped with relevant skills such as photography/ video editing/ digital design, but y'all really surpassed all of our expectations by quickly learning on the go and completing given tasks on time. From tirelessly designing the subcomm tee, competition shirts and banners (kudos to Jarrel for helping), manning our instagram page, taking pics & vids during SCT and other ODAC events, and much more. We hope that your experience in Pumpfest was fruitful, enjoyable and made lasting friends along the way. To Progs, y’all sure are a diverse bunch. From crazy bread-enthusiast Ethel to jokers Guang Hui and Wei Jie, and not to forget Mr Chinese Eminem Ben, it has been fun having y’all. We were worried at first about you guys not being enthu enough but we are happy to say you guys proved all of us wrong :) The main bulk of your work obviously did not occur but we hope you had fun nonetheless. After all, some of you might be coming back for the next edition of Pumpfest hehe. Next supper jio is on you guys! (p.s Bryan is no longer driving to extension and wishes for you all to treat him bak chor mee)
Lastly, good luck to the next batch and see all of you soon!

FRESHMEN OUTDOOR OVERSEAS TRIP
F.O.O.T Freshmen Outdoor Overseas Trip (FOOT) is a one-of-a-kind 5D4N Camp that brings our participants to Malaysia for an adventure-filled time. Activities include Waterfall Trekking, Outdoor Cooking, Camping under the stars and non-stop fun and games! This experience is extremely friendly for those who want to embrace their adventurous side or for someone who is trying to take their first step in exploring the outdoors! Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to plan and execute the trip. However, FOOT'21 will be back with more outdoor cooking and camping fun! The FOOT Committee had organised a dry run prior to the pandemic -- aptly known as District Race and Night Cycling experience or DRaNCe, where participants got to try out some station games while orienteering themselves within the CBD area with a given map. After which, they headed to Pasir Ris for the night cycling event and enjoyed a late supper at East Coast Park Macdonalds! Check out our DRaNCe event below!

Dear FOOTCOMM20, It’s been almost a year since all of you took the brave decision of stepping foot (pun intended) into ODAC and we are so proud of all of you. Going from strangers to a bunch of tight knitted weirdos who can never stop taking selfies every 5minutes non stop singing on a microphone while hiking... even the committee shirt has a weird design and colour. Nevertheless, it was really heartwarming to see all of you open up to one another through the year, give so much love to one another and even self-organising meetup sessions together Though this year may not have been ideal, with the current situation globally and FOOTCAMP being cancelled, we still managed to do so much together. From the 1st trip to Lata Medang Falls, Mount Apo, Pelepah Falls and finally, DRANCE. Despite the tight timeline, all of you were still able to produce a fun and exciting event for all to enjoy and we cannot be more proud. Your capabilities shone through and it’s easy to see that FOOT’20 were in good hands. As some of you may move on to your 2nd year in ODAC, rest assure that we fully believe in your abilities to make FOOT’21 great again. We hope that all of you had fun and got to experience and enjoy the outdoor activities in FOOT’20. Have faith, be daring and never let the weirdness cease. With love, Kathi & Gabriel

Gunung Raung really pushed us to our limits with that unexpected and outrageous thunderstorm while we were descending down from the summit. Yet, all of you pushed and encouraged one another with #bigtrust in Yi Kang, our Russian master, and the ropes. So so grateful that we safely descended and Leon, thank you for not jumping off the ridge. Despite struggling with your knee injury, you endured and pushed through and we are so proud of you, Erfy! And dude, the 100 satays were P.E.R.F.E.C.T... and last but not least, wow the chills we had after watching the beautiful montage our dearest Isaiah consolidated of our arduous journey. Taking that bizarre experience in stride, we scaled the Bakun Trio mountains like pros. In that same trip, we had the opportunity to witness one another’s alcohol tolerance, emotional stability and true colours. Only then did we finally grasp how humorous and noisy our Commando Jonathan can be #drunkjonisbestjon. ODAC FAMILY EVENTS
FAMILY DAY On 3rd November 2019, we had our annual NTU ODAC Family Day, organised by the Main Committee. All 5 subcomms came together to compete in beach games and reign champion over the others. ONLY ONE CAN WIN! It was scorching at the beach but on this very day, many new bonds and friendships were formed as participants played across subcommittees.
CNY CELEBRATION
On 22nd January 2020, we held our CNY Celebrations in the Hall 5 function room where we had trivias, games and a steamboat to commemorate the start of the Lunar New Year. Previous subcommers were invited back to bond with the new ones and to get together with their old subcomms to relive their time in ODAC. Our bellies were stuffed full and our hearts were filled to the brim on this very joyous occassion.

Looking for a quick getaway but not a fan of scaling arduous mountains? We've got you covered!
Through this exhilarating experience, participants could definitely quench their thirst for adventure.
For one of our Winter Trips, we had our Publicity Officer, Xaiver and Pumpfest's very own Special Project Officer, Shawn, leading a group of 18 participants on a heart pumping and adrenaline-rush filled trip to Perak and Penang!
Participants also got to try abseiling down a 12-metre waterfall while getting splashed by the refreshingly clean waters of Geruntum. On the way back to the homestay, they bought some fresh durians at REAL cheap prices!
Taking on a more relaxed pace than the other Winter trips, The Perak and Penang trip gave the participants an experience they won't forget. Cave Exploring at Gua Tempurung had the participants ankle high in water and waddling through the cracks of the cave. They even had a taste of how it was like to be refugees of WWII hiding in total darkness.
XAIVER
They also had a thrilling White-Water Rafting experience at Kampar River where they tackled several rapids while enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
SHAWN
No vacation is complete without a short R&R , so they did just that at Penang! Participants fully enjoyed themselves at Penang Theme Park, which had both dry and wet elements. 2 of them even participated in a mini diving competition and managed to snag attractive prizes! And of course, no trip can go wrong with delicious local delicacies. They took the chance to hit the streets of Penang and stuffed themselves with the local delights. Mt. Bromo (2,329m) is one of the most scenic and well known destination in East Java famously known for its magnificent sunrise views and view of the Caldera with Mt. Semeru in the background. LIST
Ever been out on a trip and you suddenly remembered that you left you beloved teddy bear at home? Fear not fellow adventurers! NTU ODAC is here to help you with your packing list and provide tips and tricks, ODAC style! :D Just kidding about the teddy bear... WHAT ARE YOU? 5? Though teddy bears are soft and helps you to get some shut-eye, SO DO TOILET PAPER ROLLS! Have you been out in the wilderness and all of a sudden - NATURE CALLS just when you're about to sleep? With Toilet Rolls, you can feel the softness of the paper caress your bottom, giving you an ease of mind to fall right back into your sleeping bag with a stomach relieved of its excruciating torture. This can be found at home in any toilet! Or even mall toilets (if you are desperate enough to steal them) - an alternative: LEAVES ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND if you don't have a soft supple roll so go find soft ones that won't scrape your hiney!! *rustle* WHAT'S THAT? *footsteps* WHO'S THERE?! - every typical American horror movie. But did you notice that they always bring a torchlight with them to search in the dark and yet they still get caught? Despite that, being out in the wilderness, there may not be any ambient light at night, nor are there lights from street lamps. So when camping, ALWAYS BRING YOUR HEADLAMPS/TORCHLIGHTS! Though they may seem insignificant when you have your phone, it will be a real life saver when you are doing your above business in the dark and can't wipe your butt because you have your phone in your hand. Tip! Pack extra extra batteries just in case you need to throw them at a random bear in the dark. Ah yes! The King of Outdoor Cooking, The Undefeated Champion, The Legend. Coffee, tea or INDOMEE? Every field camp's camping trip's must have! Any variation of instant noodles will work but it puzzles me why NTU ODAC members always choose to eat the famous Mi Sedap Indomee. Like I don't get - *stuffs a spoonful of Indomee in my mouth* - what's the appeal you know? *stuffs another* It's just another.... - wah bro are you Gordon Ramsay?! WHY THIS NOODLE SO DELICIOUS DE??!! AMAZING ADD ONs TO YOUR ALREADY DELICIOUS NOODLE: Chicken Nuggets, Chicken Franks, Enoki Mushroom with Cheese, Vegetarian Dumplings. *this page is not sponsored by Mi Sedap* "Walao, just now hike up the mountain so hot and sweaty sia, I don't need any jacket to sleep tonight" *Later that night* "Bro.... I got something to ask you.... you wanna cuddle anot.... " *cue K-drama ending music*. Do not neglect the power of the windbreaker/jacket just because you are going to another tropical country!! In the forest or high up on a mountain, temperatures could dip drastically at night as compared to the temperature in the morning/afternoon. WHY? - don't ask me IT's SCIENCE! Always bring along a jacket (unless you wanna cuddle up with someone ;)) to warm your soul after eating your warm Indomee. Is legit the best feeling!! Tip. Start your campfire first so that you can roast your marshmallows or WARM THE COCKLES OF YOUR HEART!
*crunch* "OMG I KILLED A SNAIL" - Cheryl's favourite words. *splosh* "EeeEEeee WHY SO SLIMY ONE.. IS THIS POOP????" Have you been in this kind of situations before?? Don't worry! Though unnecessary to buy a pair if you are not a frequent trekker, these pair of sweet piercing babies are highly recommended by the Trek Subcommittee especially during a summit push on a steep mountain/volcano. They provide an anchor for you and reduce some impact on your hips, knees and ankles when going downhill. Pro tip: Hiking Poles are great for skewing marshmallow For the legit trekking pros tip: They are even better as chopsticks for your Indomee For all you thirsty people out there! Here are some cool facts about drowning! Drowning is death caused by suffocation when a liquid causes interruption of the body's absorption of oxygen from the air, leading to asphyxia. The primary cause of death is hypoxia and acidosis, leading to cardiac arrest. SO THE BIG QUESTION IS.... "Can you drown by drinking too much water?" Answer: YES *YOU CAN!!! Hope this ruins your day :D *Okay it's rare and you have to drink a lot of water in a short period of time which most people would have a hard time doing accidentally. BUT ALWAYS BRING WATER ALONG!!!! The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement was born on a battlefield in 1859, Solferino, Italy. Henry Dunant, a Swiss businessman, witnessed the aftermath of a grim battle that left 40,000 dead and wounded with a few military and local medical services to help them. Horrified by what he saw, Dunant organized local villagers to care for the casualties. In 1863, Dunant and 4 other Swiss citizens organized an international conference to adopt resolutions providing for the establishment for wounded soldiers - which was how Red Cross came to be. TRUST ME I WAS A CADET IN RED CROSS YOUTH AND A MEDIC. I KNOW MY STUFF. Totally did not copy off the Red Cross website.... Okay anyway, First Aid Kits are essential to every trip to treat minor injuries!! So remember to bring them along everywhere!
