Come vedi il tratteggio: un ponte tra il figurativo e l’indefinito?

Il tratteggio come lo definisci è per me un gesto naturale. Non mi sono mai interrogata sul tipo di segno che possiedo e posso dirti che non mi chiedo mai che tipo di disegno sto per fare, non ci penso, e disegno.

A bridge between figurative and indefinite

C’è molto movimento, molta tensione nella flora: vedi in atto la metamorfosi nelle tue figure?

Le figure che escono nei miei disegni sono come istantanee in bianco e nero di dettagli spesso complessi e in movimento, scorgo elementi di un mondo naturale che prende forma dai segni che con la penna lascio sul foglio. Osserva da vicino la corteccia di un albero in un giorno di sole, vedi in atto la metamorfosi?

Nei tuoi lavori i tratti creano la complessità: è il recupero di una tradizione del disegno che ha ancora molto da dire?

Posso dire che ho recuperato la gestualità di quella tecnica di tradizione, minuziosa, lenta, dove il tratto è ripetizione febbrile di segni, zone d’ombra che compaiono sul foglio e continuano a fluire fino a quando s’esaurisce la spianta e, di solito, a quel punto, guardo il disegno, lo metto a fuoco, lo vedo per la prima volta, finito e incompleto, come sempre e mi rendo conto che è tardissimo e domani lavoro... notte!

Hatching, as you call it, for me is a natural thing. I have never analyzed the kind of technique I use and I can also tell you that I have never asked myself which kind of drawing I am about to make, I do not think about it, I just draw it.

There is a lot of movement, a lot of tension in the flora: do you see a metamorphosis in progress in your illustrations?

The illustrations I draw are like black and white pictures of details which often are complex and in motion, I see elements of a natural world which is created by the strokes of my pen. Look closely at the bark of a tree in a sunny day, do you see a metamorphosis in progress?

In your works complexity is created by the strokes of your pen: do you want to revive a traditional way of drawing which still has a lot to offer?

I can say that I use the gestural expressiveness of that traditional technique, precise and slow, where strokes are the hectic repetition of signs, shadows that appear on paper and keep flowing till the impulse is over, and usually at that stage I look at the drawing, I see it for the first time, finished and incomplete, as usual and I realize that it is very late and tomorrow I have to go to work… good night!
