Adult Short Courses At Oaklands College we are big on community. Our Adult Short Courses are a great way we can serve the community as a place of learning for people of all ages, backgrounds and experience to develop, grow and reach their full potential, in a safe and supportive environment. Whether you are learning for work, personal development or for pleasure, we offer a range of informal and welcoming short courses for adults who would like to up their skills, build confidence and meet new people. Our course tutors are experts in their field and will deliver a course that will inform and educate at the level and skill you need.

Pottery Workshop (All Levels): Morning / Afternoon / Evening

Beginners and experienced students are welcome to join this workshop activity. Our experienced tutor will teach and provide support and guidance in producing items. Those that are new/ beginners we teach handbuilding methods such as pinch pots, coiling, slab building alongside using decorative techniques such as slips, underglazes and glazes for the first part of the course. Saturday Pottery Workshop (All levels)

Pottery – Make a Vase in a Day

This course is aimed at beginners. You will learn a variety of building and decorating techniques including slab construction, joining clay, surface decoration, use of slips and sgrafitto. Your vase will be glazed and fired for you and can be collected at a later date. Start Date

A follow on course from TRY A NEW CRAFT. In these workshops you will learn how to combine printing techniques such as mono printing and lino to produce more complex compositions exploring colour, shape, texture and pattern. Advanced Monoprint: 1 Day

Monoprints are one of the most direct forms of printmaking. The process is often described as liberating and fun with beautiful and often unexpected results. During this one day work shop you will learn how to create original, multi-layered mono prints using transfer drawing, masking and textured surfaces using the etching press. NEW This online course will be delivered over 5 consecutive weeks. Given world news FOR coverage, current home-life challenges and every-day uncertainty at the moment it 2021 is difficult not to worry about what it all means for yourself, and for those you love. Stress, worry and anxiety are common problems at the best of times, and when it takes over it can be all-encompassing. During this course we will together explore the basics of CBT and Mindfulness. In addition to offering courses at our main campuses, the Adult and Community Learning Team are working with local partners: Job Centre Plus, Communities 1st, local Schools/Academies, Family Centres, Briars Pavillion, Careers in Hertfordshire and other community organisations, in delivering an array of short courses in St Albans, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Borehamwood.
