Editors’ Note Welcome to the April edition of OCIO magazine, our 100th magazine since its inception back in 2006. Along the way we have had the great pleasure of meeting some truly wonderful people, we have worked with, and we continue to work with, a varied group of advertisers and contributors, many of which have become good friends over the passing years. We at OCIO magazine consider ourselves very fortunate to have been made to feel so welcome in what was after all, a foreign country to us when we arrived, although it feels far from foreign to us now. So, here we are, many years after arriving to the sunny shores of Spain. With 100 magazines behind us, we think a little celebration time is in order and with the summer months ahead of us, we can think of no better place in the world in which to live, work and celebrate. ear long colour is a gardener’s dream that is so rarely realised - but why rely on just plants? Moroccan gardens and their use of fabrics, tiles and pots, bring stunning colour and texture to outdoor spaces. The gardens of Marrakesh, not dislike the gardens here in Spain during high summer, are presented with a daily battle against the heat and direct sunlight. This sentiment is reflected in the design of the outdoor spaces, creating delightful and beautiful shady areas for sitting and dining. Moroccan style adds a flavour of the exotic to your outdoor spaces and much can be learned from the style, creative design and colours. Injecting colour into your garden or terrace doesn’t have to be difficult or a budget buster. Colour can come from a variety of sources including furniture, soft furnishings, lighting, garden art, pots, tiles and of

This may sound a little strange but, try adding an outdoor rug to your terrace or patio, it will certainly enhance your outdoor dining or seating area whilst giving the space a very homely feel.. Tiles are a great way to add colour and interest. They are available is an incredibly varied selection of colours and designs, which makes them a great material to add colour to outdoor structures such as stairs, kitchen countertops, or water features. Garden art is a much talked about topic and as with all art is subject to the old adage of beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So if you like it then include it in your space. For the artistic ones, why not brighten up a bare wall with a mural. This is an especially helpful tip if space is limited, as a mural takes up no ground space and adds both colour and interest to an outdoor wall. Whether you add plants to the landscape by painting them on the wall or create the illusion of a framed piece of art, a mural can be a great way to dress up the outdoor space and create a talking point for family and friends when you are entertaining. Another one of the easiest and most fulfilling ways to add colour to the outdoors is to incorporate flowering plants in containers. 10 OCIO magazine

When considering garden furniture, remember this too can be dressed in a multitude of colours and fabrics. Also, when choosing, think of each piece of furniture as an individual object. Styles and ages can all co habit perfectly outside. A general rule of thumb would be, the more eclectic, the better. And finally, look for new areas in your outdoor spaces in which to add colour. Take a few minutes to sit back and relax on your terace or in your garden and simply

take in your surroundings and try and see it through a different set of eyes. Spain on the other hand has always seemed to rate very well, which comes as no surprise to those of us that live here.

fter Toyota released a fettled and updated GT86 for 2017, it was inevitable that Subaru would quickly do the same for its half of the legendary joint venture. Light revisions are the order of the day for the new BRZ, and we’re driving it for the first time to see what difference the changes have made. The exterior tweaks to the BRZ are subtle but more extensive than you might think at first glance. There’s a reprofiled front bumper and grille to give it a wider visual stance, new full-LED headlights and tweaked rear lamps. New 10-spoke alloy wheels and a chunky new rear spoiler round off the revisions. It’s not likely to 40 OCIO magazine

change anyone’s view on how the BRZ looks, but to our eyes it’s a slightly more cohesive design than its Toyota cousin. The BRZ’s interior has had nothing more than a minor refresh, but the new multifunction steering wheel is a big improvement, while there are also new materials on the dash and increased leather stitching throughout to boost the ambience. inch trip display in the dials; it features a G-force meter, a lap timer and even a torque and power curve graph. Of course the BRZ’s appeal centres on the driving experience rather than fit and finish, and on that basis it’s even more enjoyable than before. Subaru’s characteristic 2.0-litre flat-four ‘Boxer’ engine receives revisions for 2017 to improve responsiveness and bring down emissions, while new dampers aim to improve ride comfort and reduce roll. Costa Women Axarquía at La Casa Restaurant & Bar Torrox Pueblo

he ‘Costa Women Axarquia’ enjoyed a lovely dinner at ‘La Casa Restaurant & Bar’ in the traditional white washed village of Torrox Pueblo for their March event. This pretty & traditional Andalucian village boasts a selection of different eateries but there probably isn’t one that is better located than ‘La Casa’. Situated directly on the main Plaza (town square), it is the perfect location for lunch or dinner or just a nice drink in the sunshine to while away the time. On this occasion the Costa Women came from all areas to enjoy a great selection of food & drink at this lovely restaurant. What a great evening it was, so much so that a number of the ladies stayed over in their award winning boutique hotel ‘La Casa Hotel’, as featured in the famous TV programme ‘The Hotel Inspector’. Costa Women Axarquia is part of ‘Costa Women Spain’ which connects and inspires women throughout Spain (English speaking). Thai Chicken Curry I

absolutely love the flavours of Thai cooking. For a long time though, I thought it wasn’t something you could easily make at home but, surprise surprise, with a little practice, good ingredients and an easy to follow recipe, it seems that it really is not so difficult after all. I sincerely hope you like my version of the classic Thai Chicken Curry. Ingredients for 4 persons: 700 gms of Chicken filet (or turkey) if you prefer A tin of coconut milk (or more if you like a lot of sauce) 150 gms Cashew nuts 3 or 4 small potatoes Half (or full) tin of peeled tomatoes 4 carrots 1 big onion Massaman curry paste (available in any 62 OCIO magazine

Aunque solía pensar que no son platos fáciles de cocinar en casa, lo cierto es que con un poco de práctica, buenos ingredientes y la capacidad para ceñirse a la receta, no es tan difícil como parece. Espero sinceramente que os guste mi versión del clásico Pollo Tailandés al Curry. Ingredientes para 4 personas: 700 gr de filete de pollo (o pavo si lo prefieres) Una lata de leche de coco, o más de una si lo prefieres con mucha salsa 150 gr de anacardos 3 o 4 patatas pequeñas Media lata (o entera) de tomates pelados 4 zanahorias 1 cebolla grande

Paste de curry Massaman (disponible en cualquier supermercado británico) Arroz Basmati Receta paso a paso: Corta el pollo en tacos grandes. Pica la cebolla, las zanahorias y las patatas con cuidado de no dejarlas muy grandes, porque deben ablandarse con el pollo. Echa todo en una cazuela y añade los anacardos. Añade también la leche de coco y los tomates pelados. El color de la salsa debería ser naranja claro (color salmón). Añade la pasta de curry Massaman, si te gusta el curry más bien picante tendrás que echar al menos una cucharada sopera llena. Tras cocinarlo unos pocos minutos puedes probarlo y añadir más si quieres. Los tailandeses

disfrutan de la comida muy especiada, así que déjalo cocinar hasta que todo tome bien el sabor. Alíñalo como prefieras, aunque si los anacardos ya están salados no hace falta que eches más sal al plato. Trucos: Si la salsa no está lo suficientemente espesa para tu gusto, siéntete libre de usar un poco de harina para espesarla. Sigue cocinando hasta que el pollo esté tierno. Cocina el arroz Basmati como te indique el paquete, generalmente de 20 a 30 minutos. Y eso es todo ¿qué os parece?
